Ugggghhhh such great sushi!! I am almost a regular here. I visit this restaurant at least 4 times in a month. This is my favorite visit thus far! My girlfriend and I just went around 5, and it was surprisingly empty for a Saturday night. We were promptly greeted by our waiter who took our drink order. My usual choice here is to start with a snow crab salad, then a Jerry Roll with Eel Nigiri. This time I decided to go a different route. My girlfriend ordered the snow crab salad while I ordered edamame (always a great choice!). She also ordered Kani Naruto and Salmon Sashimi as her meal while I went with the Sarah Roll, an Eel roll w/ avocado, a salmon avocado roll, and a smoked salmon sashimi. The food was SO delicious, it probably took less time for us to eat it than how fast it was prepared and served (The food came out very quickly! It seemed that there were more takeout orders than in-house tonight.). I recommend anything that Wahada has to offer. This place was not what we expected, based on all the positive reviews. Hubby and I went for dinner on a lazy cooking night. First impression was good. Place was clean, well lite and the host was friendly. The menu was fairly large and offered sushi as well as other Japanese dishes and bento boxes. I ordered the pick two Beno dinner ( katsu chicken and teriyaki beef) and hubby got two sushi rolls (spicy tuna and Rock n Roll). The bento box came with miso soup and salad with ginger dressing. The soup was very good, but the salad was a plate of lettuce with a thick creamy dressing that had no taste. The bento box looked promising with two goyga, lots of veggies, chicken katsu, teriyaki beef, and four pieces of sushi. Unfortunately the dishes were all disappointing. The goyga was chewy and flavorless. The sushi was flavorless. The sauces on both the katsu and teriyaki were way to sweet and were very syrup like and drenched both the meat and all the veggies. Hubby's sushi was not any better. The rolls were big, but had no flavor. Even the spicy tuna was bland. We had been wanting to try this place for a while, but based on our experience with don't plan on coming back. read more

I've been to several sushi places in Baton Rouge and I have to say this one is nothing really special. I got the chicken teriyaki, pink lady roll and the Philadelphia roll. The chicken teriyaki entree was not great. The chicken was really dry. The teriyaki sauce was a little thick for my liking. The ginger dressing on the salad tasted a little too much like mayo. The pink lady roll was decent. Probably my favorite of the three things I ordered. The Philadelphia roll was fine. Nothing much to say about that. read more

There is an abundance of places to eat sushi and Baton Rouge, and this restaurant won't disappoint. The menu is varied without being overwhelming. The appetizers and soups are found almost anywhere, but there are some off menu items if you know what to order. (Since it's not on the menu, I will not give away secrets that the business may not want to be public knowledge. I feel that an item my friend ordered is not on the menu for a reason - but it was good!) I typically judge a sushi restaurant on the raw rolls offered. Too many places cater to people who will only eat cooked sushi, in my opinion. Wahada has a good selection of common and popular raw rolls. My party ordered pan-fried pork gyoza, seaweed salad, edamame, miso soup, and many rolls both cooked and raw. Nothing we had was disappointing. The only possible criticism I had was the fact that I did not receive as much wasabi as I would have liked. I took my friend's, though, as she does not eat it. If you like hot sake, I would suggest it. I am not sure of the brand they use, but I enjoyed it. There was a slightly sweet finish. The establishment also has the big Sapporo bottles! The service was very good. Our waiter got busy toward the end of our meal, but he took good care of us. The atmosphere there is not blowing anyone away, I think. There are certainly more romantic places. The painted sky on the ceiling, though, is always interesting. Let's just start off by saying I love places that deliver! I had the combo fried rice, which was packed with beef, chicken, and shrimp. It was really delivious, and i could not stop eating it. I ordered a couple of rolls that also had great flavor, and they tasted really fresh. I had the spicy tuna roll and the salmon avocado roll. The prices are great and the delivery driver was very nice. They originally quoted me 30-45 minutes, but it ended up only taking about 25minutes which is great for delivery. I can't even get a pizza from dominos that quick. I will definitely be ordering from them again in the near future when i get the craving for sushi! read more

I ate sushi about 2 or 3 times a week before I moved here and I missed it so much because I simply do not think it a lot of the local attempts were very good despite raves about Tsunami, or whatever. I've tried about 5 in the area and it always tasted like the stuff you'd get as a lunch special in a deli or grocery store. Edible but nothing to write home about. Wahada knows what they are doing though. They have the "American-ized" stuff with chocolate chips, and a sparkler (I kid, I kid) or whatever but they also have really authentic off the menu selections that are divine. The Sashimi Deluxe at Wahada was pretty plentiful for the price $20 and included ginger dressing salad and miso soup. The salmon and yellowtail were both the standouts of the group, only disappointment was the escolar, which was stringy. We also ordered a salmon avocado roll, which really just melted in your mouth. Certainly worth a try if you're looking for sushi and choose to avoid a chain like Hello Sushi. You need to take this review seriously :P Here's why: 1) I love sushi; 2) I think I have a good case that I am very knowledgeable about sushi; 3) I am very skeptical of the Baton Rouge restaurant scene (!) and thus do not give inflated ratings. So all I'm saying is, when I tell you that Wahada has excellent sushi, you need to believe me. I ordered a couple of the rolls, and they were excellent. The nigiri though--that's a great test of freshness because there are no sauces and spices and seaweed to dampen the flavor of the fish. And the nigiri was very, very good. By far the best I've had in BR--much better than, say, Tsunami (which, as I am sure you know, is dreadfully over-rated). Don't be put-off by the location in a strip mall. Here in Baton Rouge, everything is in a seedy strip mall, so you can't hold that against Wahada. I have some less-than-enthusiastic things to say about the service, but the food was so surprisingly good that it has not affected my review. Anyway, you need to eat here. That's all. read more

Although their lunch deals are truly killer, a lot of their entrees are too generic to rate any higher. This is really a 3.5 for me, especially because the owner (or the woman I think is the owner anyway) is always so sweet. But at the end of the day, a fair amount of their food is generic japanese and takes no real culinary risks. The worst offender for me is the teriaky chicken. God, I don't know if it's the cut of meat they use but the texture is truly awful. It's not just ok-it's bad, and that dish isn't hard to get right. Their noodle dishes (udon) are usually more successful, and the portions are large. The sushi is all over the map to me. I guess my issue is that it's rarely been great. Mostly hovering in ok territory. Here's what I want to stress though- those bento lunches are probably the best lunch deal out of all the restaurants I frequent in town. For less than 9 dollars, you get miso soup, house salad, California roll, rice, fruit, and your choice of meat (chicken, beef, fish, etc). That's some infomercial "but wait! there more!" level stuff. read more

Wahada is a 100% college-based restaurant, sitting not far off of the main LSU campus off of Nicholson. Run-of-th-mill sushi bar style setting predominates in terms of decor and service. Staff are mostly college students, but they all know the menu decently well. It doesn't matter what you get from the menu. It will be good. On a personal note - try the JERRY ROLL. I've been to many places and have tried countless similar dishes trying to find a replacement/competitor for this roll...none have nailed it. Three friends and I called and asked if they would take us quite close to closing. They greeted us so well and were very kind in taking us when they were about to close. My friend had just graduated and they congratulated her and were interested in our education. We were the only ones in the restaurant but were doted on so well. The food was amazing! Great prices. My first time trying true sushi and it was all so delicious. The waiter had just started working there a week or two before and was soooo nice and helpful and funny! The sushi here is acceptable. Sushi is a personal experience and everyone is an expert so take my review with a grain of salt. If this were a sushi joint on the west coast I wouldn't return, however since this is Baton Rouge and it is more or less what i expect from sushi in the South then I am being very generous in my rating. From a sushi purists perspective this place is a big No-No, but if you are willing to have a couple of rolls and some soda then this place will suffice. The bountiful list of rolls here indicates what they are known for and what they are supposed to be good at. They have rolls ranging from no fish to cooked fish and most everything in between. Expect most of the rolls to be very "rich" sorta like Paula Deen style sushi rolls with lots of choices of cream cheese and avacado or masago cream sauce. The salmon nigiri and New Orleans roll were the better of what i had. The staff is extremely friendly and this was the only sushi place open til 11pm so that is a definite plus. read more
