Do no eat here! The customer service is terrible!!!! So after the horrible experience I had last time I decided to give this place another try but this time dining in. I will NEVER again order or eat at this place again. The customer service is non-existent! First off, the hostess offers me a booth table that is dirty even while there are other booths and tables available. I tell her it's dirty and her response is sit anywhere you want in a nasty tone. Then when the waiter comes I ask for a can of soda instead of the fountain soda and I couldn't get it. I asked the manager who rolled her eyes at me and said no she couldn't do that. I was in absolute disbelief. My waiter had also told me I couldn't get a snapple either because those were for deliveries only. You could have imagined my reaction. This place is pretty mediocre. I used to go occasionally but I got ripped off today by Wahi so I will never eat here again. I recommend Coral Diner anyway because it is tastier and friendlier. Here's my story: today I ordered an egg+cheese on a croissant with tomato, onion, jalapeño and avocado and they charged me 10.25 when it only should have been 6 or 7. They claimed avocado is 3$ extra and everything else is a 1$ even though the menu said otherwise. I go here every few weeks. And I usually get the same thing so I feel like I can judge the consistency pretty well. The last few weeks have been TERRIBLE. Not sure if it's new cooks or waitresses, but someone's not communicating. The service and quality have been awful. I usually get steak and eggs. It's a diner so I don't expect the greatest steak ever, but it's $20 so it'd better be pretty damn decent. Usually it's totally fine. Last few times though, I had to go out of my way to remind them of the coffee and toast I had ordered. Even then it was the wrong toast. No one came around to check up or refill my water. The waitress took my order without a pad to write on and surprise surprise, she got the order wrong. One time she brought me corned beef hash on the side even though that had never been discussed prior. Let me be clear, I NEVER complain about food. I usually just suck it up and go with it, because they seem nice. But recently they seem more complacent. And it's happened AGAIN and AGAIN. The steak of the steak and eggs I ordered was completely overdone. I told the woman working the entrance and she just smiled and semi-listened and said nothing? Not sure if she didn't understand English, but I felt like I was speaking to a wall. The manager, who I'd never seen before, was a balding guy with curly hair who just sat around eating the whole time. Not once did he come around and make sure everything was okay, which usually happened during past visits. Honestly, I feel bad for even leaving a tip this last time. I feel like I gave this place a bunch of chances and it just takes advantage of people. If I somehow do wind up there again (not likely), and the service and quality are the same, I will speak to the manager, I will not be paying, and I will walk out. Enough is enough. read more

Wahi diner has a most delicious breakfast and coffee!!! Plus the staff is so nice , especially the waitresses! I wish I could remember her name to give her the proper press she deserves. My husband had the he-man breakfast , it was most satisfying !!!! I also ate the French toast which was so good off of his breakfast because it was huge! I'd give zero stars if I could. Terrible service. Food is so so, typical diner low quality food, but service is horrific. I have been there many times, here's what has happened. One time, forgot to enter my order, waited 45 minutes, when I asked the waitress she said "sorry I didn't put the order in." I had to leave to work. Another time, I sat for 30 minutes, waiters chitchatting be the bar area, no one came over, had to leave. There is also a guy there that just stares me down, not sure why, and he called me fat! I said I'm trying to loose weight, and he said my efforts are futile. There are other times it's been ok. Now, I have stopped going. Came here at 4ish AM after a night out and although the service was quick and the server was nice the food didn't leave an impression. I ordered a turkey club but the turkey was basically the cheap deli meat you buy at the supermarket and it just didn't taste good. Sat at the counter since the only table offered was between some messy kids. I ordered grilled cheese with tomato and coffee. My friend ordered coffee, a garden omelette with home fries and rye toast. Grilled cheese was small and rather juicy-- meaning tomato to cheese ratio was way off. Strangely, the counter man gave me french fries ("for free") even though I said twice that I didn't want any. Coffee refills were offered; I declined (was rather rough-tasting). In the CUMC area, it is find to find a lunch spot that has it all. Speed, affordability, wide variety of menu options, and a place to SIT. I went to Wahi for the first time today and was greeted by a very friendly hostess to offered me a booth, even though I was alone. I was very pleased. There were many lunch specials available today for $9.95, and I was offered an additional discount being a CUMC employee. The menu in general was very extensive, so there is plenty to choose from. I ordered the Moussaka lunch special, which came with a Greek salad. The ingredients were extremely fresh, and the portions were enormous. I have enough leftover for dinner. Service was great, food was delicious, prices were amazing, and I had a cozy booth all to myself. I think I have found my new favorite lunch spot! read more

A classic diner atmosphere with incredible lunch deals. The food is delicious and fast, the portions are generous, and the staff is attentive and friendly. This place is just down the street from me so I'm already happy about that. The staff were friendly and prompt, gladly took my order for an off menu combo for just a dollar extra. I like sitting at the counter, really gives you more of a diner experience. They just installed booths as well. The menu has a lot on it, but be warned, the pictures shown are not always of available food. That was sometimes a bummer when something looked good and was not actually available. I should have given this place zero stars after my unpleasant experience yesterday afternoon. However, I ate at this diner twice months ago and had a pleasant and inviting customer experience. The middle aged male waiter from Africa needs to find another job SERIOUSLY! I felt he and perhaps the whole DAMN restaurant needs some SERIOUS diversity training dealing with black patrons. I ordered well done steak not BURNT and eggs with homemade potatoes and toast. The steak was burnt on one side of the fat according to the waiter. Yet the other side was cooked well. UNACCEPTABLE! I ask for steak sauce and received the watered jar minutes later. UNACCEPTABLE! The potatoes were not fresh and somewhat burnt. However, the coffee was fresh. That male waiter didn't bother to check with me and asked if my meal met expectations. The coffee was fresh. I told the young female supervisor and the female owner about my horrific experience and they felt nonchalant and indifferent. I paid the bill and provided NO tip. My dollars MATTER!!! Had I been a Dominican, White, female or perhaps dined with more parties then I would have better customer service and I wouldn't have create a scene. It's recently opened--a much bigger redo of a much smaller burger shop. So far, so good. Had breakfast there a few times and order for delivery a couple of times. Good food, attentive service, delivery is quick. They aren't available for online ordering, but it's easy to order over the phone with them. Never order for delivery!! I'm not someone that tends to write reviews, but this diner deserves a terrible one. I placed an order for delivery, an hour passes and I still haven't received it. I called to check on the status of my order and the guy on the phone was completely rude and disrespectful. I'm a very easygoing person and it's rare when someone gets to me, but this guy really pissed me off. I wasn't calling to yell and complain about my order, I just wanted to check on the status of it. But to my surprise, I was the one getting attitude and complains from him. He said I gave the wrong number, the wrong address, meanwhile we went over the address and phone number I gave him and it was correct. He was still blaming me though. I'm not arguing with anyone, he can stay miserable with his life, I simply just told him that he didn't have to be rude, he could have a goodnight and I hung up. The food is excellent! The customer service is great. They have the best French toast and Belgian waffles EVER. It's just a TAD bit overpriced, at least, for a ghetto neighborhood like Washington heights. Around here you can get some good French toast for around $3 while at the diner it's $5. It's not much of difference in price for most people, but it is for me seeing as I'm in school, have no job and can't spend $20 a week on breakfast. Other than that the place is great.
