A MUST SKIP EVENT: To set context, two premium seats cost slightly over $400. I am used to places on Ohau like the Polynesian Cultural Center for the Luauas I go to, but when I look at "value" (what you get for what you pay), I would consider myself a good judge. I had one week on Maui, and wanted the best experiences, for which I was happy to pay..this WAS NOT one of them! I SHOULD HAVE KNOWN WHEN IT HAD LAST MINUTE AVAILABILITY and checked Yelp before booking. * Food (one star)...frankly poor tasting with poor variety. Basically cheap items designed to tick a box, but not make you want more. I did have the Head Chef come out and explained the issues and advised him to "poll" the tables to get an idea of how people felt about the meal. He never did so while I was there. Takeaway: if you want a traditional, well prepared, luau ...bad choice. Find and check the menu and expect "mass production" quality. *** Drinks...better then food, limited selection of like 4 drinks presented, my wife was able to get a white Russian on request. I am a light weight when it comes to alcohol, and yet 4 Maitais into it, I hardly felt I had been drinking. Takeaway: Don't expect to make up for the bad meal drowning your sorrows in watered down Maitais...you won't. Drinks tasted good however. *** Show...nice small venue performance (pic below). Small cast working hard to provide a nice experience. ** overall value...first..this is at a Westin...that should mean quality. It did not. When you enter they tell you someone will come to get you for your photo. No one comes, and if you don't get in line in time you'll miss it. When food starts they announce that someone will tell your table when they can go to the buffet. No one comes and if you wait you might miss the food. They start the entire program with Christian religious prayer, which is really weird. The grounds are really nice, and the fire show is entertaining for kids. read more

The service was amazing! The gal we had was so caring, welcoming and had been there 25 years. Her hospitality is rare. She along deserves a 5 star review. We chose this one for the kids buffet- it was really clean for a buffet- but my kiddos weren't impressed with the food. Fried rice and rolls were the best things. The dessert table was awful and cookies were clearly store bought. There is no ocean view, as it's tucked behind some rocks- The dancing also was sparse as it was off and on as you ate. There was not any wow factor- so we left early, as it didn't hold our kids attention. They had photos there, they encouraged you to get in line for, but failed to tell you they were an extra charge...for the price they should have been included- as the company printed them all, then threw away the ones that were u unpurchased- such a waste. It's a Luau, not magic. It is a great show over all. I am from the Midwest and there is a lot if culture in the show. The premium seating is definitely worth it. You get seated faster and you get a better view. However, outside of premium I would think you could still see pretty well. The food isn't great. I'm calling it as I see it. It's a buffet. It is the first buffet I have been at in over 3 years. Im not a buffet fan at all. However the show is great. The staff really put in the effort. That is the reason for this Luau. We wanted a luau experience and the Wailele Luau was able to accommodate us booking just a few days ahead of time. But as a pro tip -- plan ahead as much as possible since this is a popular tourist activity! We booked basic seating, not in the front. We got a shell lei and a mai tai upon check-in. Our waiter, Gregg, was very attentive and made sure we always had drinks. Unprompted, he offered to take our photo together. The food was decent and I wish we could've taken the leftovers since it was too much for two people. It was served family-style vs a buffet because of COVID-19 restrictions. The dances were awesome. It was hard to hear the stories from where we were sitting, but again, we waited to book until the last minute. There was a cool fire dancing part of the show that I've heard not all luaus do. This part of Maui seems to be fairly rainy so book the more expensive seats if you want guaranteed shelter. It rained while we were there and they gave us ponchos. It poured but we had a good time regardless. Also, this Westin is super cool. It has a beautiful pond with flamingos, koi, and all sorts of beautiful flowers and plants. WARNING: WORST LUAU EVER!! First of all, not all the waiters wore their masks. Several kept their masks under their chins, or lowered them to their chins as soon as they exited the kitchen and approached customers. SERIOUSLY Westin Management?! We're in the middle of a pandemic!! Or did you not notice yet. You're putting your very customers' lives at risk. The only person to blame for this is the management team at Westin. VERY poor leadership and basic common sense. See pics for examples of waiters I'm talking about. Secondly, the show, to put it mildly, sucked. It was very boring, until the very last performance, which lasted 5 min. I have been to about 5 luaus on Maui and this was the worst, by far! The best was the Old Luau (or some name like that) in Lahaina. Thirdly, the food sucked. Not tasty and cold. Out of the many different dishes served only about 2 tasted okay. I guarantee you, you will find tastier food almost anywhere in the island. Honestly it was like eating really bad airplane food. Fourth, the sound was quite bad. Very hard to hear what the MC was saying. The area in which the luau was staged was obviously made to be an ad hoc stage. Thus, sound is a problem. Fifth, the COST IS OUTRAGEOUS! Almost $200 PER PERSON. See my comments above and ask yourself how you'd feel after spending that much on a luau and having the above experiences. Last but not least, they started the show off with a prayer. SERIOUSLY?! Keep your religious nonsense to yourselves please. A solid 20% of the world doesn't believe in religious supernatural stuff. I came to see a luau not to go to a church ceremony. This was our first time in Maui and first Luau. The food had no flavor and the meats were all cold, this food reminded us of cafeteria food. There was a lot of selections and they served you a little bit of everything, maybe they need less selections for better quality food! I'm not a luau expert but our group of 6 (aged 5-70) enjoyed the show and the food. Seating was prearranged so went quickly. They have a keiki buffet set up so the kids could eat first and it was food the 5 & 7 year olds liked. Our table had an assigned waiter (Steve) who kept us in drinks all evening. The buffet had lots of options and was delicious. Staff visited our table to ensure our girls were included in the hula dance, forewarned about the fire feature, and given a photo op with one of the entertainers. The fire portion of the luau was incredible and rated amazing by the 7 year old. My only critical comment would be that dessert was mediocre. However the chocolate chip cookies for the keiki received good reviews. We had a very enjoyable evening and left with some nice photos by their photographer. read more

Michael (Server) - Amazing & prompt Food - It is as if they flew a specialty chef from the middle of a fly over state where they were taught that the essence of flavor came from overcooking the meat, putting one flake of pepper on it, and then pouring some flavored sauce to cover up the mistakes that were made. If you have ever eaten the food from a Marriott owned bar, you've experienced the food here already. Lackluster and corporate spending controlled. Drinks - It is as if someone just breathed the vapor of hard liquor onto the cocktails. Just ask for the hard liquor of choice on the rocks, or not, and then the cocktail of choice to have a real cocktail. Seriously, as a Platinum Elite (yes, yes I know that sounds hoity toity) I'm really disappointed in the Marriott resort restaurants and food overall. The entertainment here was amazing, however the food and drinks were extremely lackluster. If you're going to drop $350 on dinner here (2 adults), know that you're going to get a good history of Hawaii & entertainment. I challenge you to try and interpret the dance moves. This is our third luau that we have been to in Maui. The food is great. We really liked that it was buffet style. They had a small kid buffet which included macaroni and cheese, fries, cookies, and chicken tenders. Our server Michael was excellent. Very kind and attentive. We really liked how they invited the kids to dance hula on stage. The only drawback was we didn't think the show was that great. The server was super friendly and always available to provide drinks and food. But the food and drinks were just not good at all. We were excited to watch this show. We paid for premium and the seating was disappointing as we were sat at a round table facing the opposite side of the stage. We had to turn our chairs around to watch the show but miss part of the show while eating our dinner. Overall , for the price we paid, it was not worth it! The show was ok and the food was average. The price should have been less than half of what we were charge and they should have a no alcohol option for those of us who does not drink and not have to overpay for alcohol. What a show!!!! ARRIVAL: Straight from the airport, we changed clothes and drove here to get our luau on. Great choice! The hotel entrance was nice and fancy and gave us that "I can finally breathe" feeling after the stress of work, packing and travelling. This hotel is valet only and with the amount we paid for our and my cousin's valet, we could have gone to Zippy's three separate times! There was a long line to pay and get in, but there were plenty of benches along the hallway for those who can't stand for long. But the line moves fairly quickly and Westin makes sure that there is something to look at while you're in line. Of course, most of what we're seeing are advertisements for Westin itself. Good gig. Once the hallway opens up to the outdoor dining area, you are immediately greeted by a team of hosts and hostesses waiting to hand you cocktails. I don't drink but these drinks look very appetizing. I couldn't resist temptation and accepted one. Man, that drink was super strong. PRE-SHOW: While you wait for the dinner and the show to begin, they have an open area close to the beach boardwalk where local artists are plying their wares such as hand-carved wooden sculptures, masks, shark teeth necklaces, etc. My favorite part: The dinner and show began with a prayer. Hawaiians are spiritual people and they stayed true to their culture. I love it! DINNER & SHOW: Although the entire dinner was very good, the stand out dish for me is the Steamed Fish. So simple yet so full of flavor and so delicious! The performances were great. I love that they used the keikis in their show. The most memorable portion of the show for me though are the Fire Dancers! First of all, they have 5 fire dancers and some of them climbed the trees and did their fire dance from there! We recently attended the Thursday night show and had a great time. The host was absolutely hysterical and the dancing and show did not disappoint. Removed one star for the poor quality of drinks (high in sugar and juice and poor alcohol quality) and removed the second star for the food buffet. One of the funnest nights on Maui. When my wife and I chose to do two luaus during our honeymoon, everyone looked at us like we were crazy. "Wow, be ready to eat lots of food!" They said. Best decision ever. At the first luau (Feast at Lele), I was totally stuck by the genuine cultural experience and the amazing courses that were brought out to us. Wailele was great for a totally different reason. It was just pure fun. And I had no idea what I was getting into. First off, they had an open bar. Score. Keep the Mai Tai's coming, thanks. The seating was also different. Rather than our own table, we sat at a round table with another woman and her mom. Super nice! More about them later. The food here was buffet style. Literally cram whatever you can onto your plate and go back for seconds, thirds, whatever. It was all really good too, but I barely finished my first plate cause all we did on Maui up til then was eat. Now here's what really made this a memorable experience - at least for Kimberly and I. When the performance first started, a chief walked on stage and started shouting something. I couldn't really hear, but before I knew it, our table mates were pointing at Kimberly and I with huge grins across their face. "Where are the newlyweds" is what he said. Before I knew it, he was asking my name and then I was up on stage with him. And then like all my siblings, cousins, and friends do, he unleashed the jokes. He had no idea who was on stage with him ;) At first I was like "Oh shoot...what have I got myself into." Then I thought, "this is totally what you do at home, show Maui what you got." The next 15 minutes, I was stomping and yelling on stage like nobody expected. War cries. Animal chants. He challenged me to do something, I did it with everything I could conjure up. Turned the weird to 11. "We" (it was all him) even cracked open a coconut. Aside from all that, the performers and dancers they had were fantastic and the fire show was insane. They were literally throwing a burning stick 50 feet to some dude climbing a tree who would then spin and twirl it like nothing before throwing it 100 ft to the next guy. What in the--?? That night, people I didn't know kept coming by to congratulate us on our wedding and rave about the impromptu performance. Even the next few days people would stop us on the elevator to say "Oh my goodness! I just have to say you were amazing!" Seriously one of the purest moments of fun I've ever had and Kimberly could not stop laughing from the table. read more
