I really enjoyed this meal! I have never been to Wajo Sushi before this visit but wanted to get some takeout to try it. The reviews were good. When I walked in the restaurant it had a small, cozy feel to it. I was surprised by the presentation of the meal because I wasn't expecting much for a pickup order. The sushi was delicious and I'd definitely come here again!

I found Wajo Sushi when I was searching around. I did not know it was so close to the area I live. I have to say it was refreshing to see. The service was great! The ambiance reminded me of a restaurant in Korea! The food quality was alright. I wished they had the menu items I was looking for but, it was sadly not available. I would recommend this place to anyone who wants a small local shop that isn't owned by a large company!

I happened upon Wajo Sushi by accident, driving home tonight and having not had sushi since many months before Coronavirus began. What a great find! The signage on front is a little misleading in that their grand opening was December of 2019, but that's okay because between the grand opening sign and the open for business sign on a Friday night, my car drove itself into the lot. There's plenty of parking in front and exactly on Milwaukee Avenue in Riverside Plaza. Inside, it's very clean and bright and modern, with a very Japanese vibe. The decor is gray and white with the slightest touch of mauve or pink. It's welcoming, happy and energetic. I dug the cool digital menu board above. It's important to say, also, that the setup and staff are very covid-19 conscious. I ordered spicy tuna roll, and eight pieces came in the incredibly fresh and very pretty order. Alongside, I had two pieces of tobiko maki, piled high and bright and colored like a blood orange. In the corner was the standard blob of wasabi and a smallish pile of pickled ginger. In the opposite corner was finely shredded carrots and cabbage mixed together. Everything was divided nicely by the usual green plastic grass and two slices of lemon. Dinner was served on a cool, see-through purple, disposable plate. All of the drinks are served in bottles in a beverage cooler. There are number of Japanese choices and little tiny cans of Coca-Cola and other interesting things. I took a bottle of refreshing aloe juice. BONUS: there's a small sign at the cash register that says "free soup" and it's for everybody. So, for a starter, I had an absolutely delicious bowl of miso. It had just the right flavor in every way. My spicy tuna roll was so fresh and moist. There was enough of everything packed inside underneath the drizzled orange sauce. The eight pieces were modest in size but filling because of their moisture and nice flavor. They were not too fishy but also not bland, just right in the middle. The tobiko maki were larger in size and filling. The roe itself/themselves (How do you call a thousand little eggs collectively?) was not bursting in flavor, nor was it super poppy crunchy, but the pieces were piled high, very pleasurable to eat and filling. Customer service is always key, and the three staff members were so professional, polite, friendly, and helpful. Prices are very reasonable that Wajo Sushi. Way to go, Wajo! Arigato gozaimasu and see you soon!

The following review is based on experiences before the COVID-19 pandemic: Love the concept, not so crazy about the food. Wajo provides a wide variety of Japanese favorites in a more casual setting. Prices are a bit closer to what you'd expect from a fancier full service restaurant but I didn't find the flavor or execution of the food particularly special. The food itself isn't bad, presented nicer than the fast casual that you'd expect from an Asian supermarket or food court, however the food was nothing impressive, particularly in comparison to Sushi Gallery that used to occupy this spot. I found the California roll to be a bit monotonous in texture, without the creamy avocado and crunchy cucumber that I associate with this dish. The edamame was a little on the soft side. The salad was very generic, lacking a tasty miso dressing and the lettuce could've been more crisp. The tonkatsu was fried nicely, but the meat itself was quite lean and the sauce was mostly forgettable. The salmon poke bowl was a bit too spicy with vegetables like edamame, avocado cucumber, and lettuce that didn't taste super fresh. The salmon was also a bit lean and didn't have a great level of firmness. Overall an alright choice but there are options with better food and prices not too far away in other parts of the suburbs.

Excellent and fresh rolls/nigiri. Prices are fair and taste good. I would recommend you this place if you feel for sushi for pickup/delivery.

I've had my fair share of sushi, and I must say...the rolls were BOMB. Had the salmon dragon and volcano rolls. 10/10 Also, they threw in a freebie. This is the kind of good vibes I needed right about now with everything going on. Thank you to those at Wajo!! You all rock. Wishing you the best.

We ordered three rolls of sushi, the tastes was good. The environment of restaurant was good and clean but after we ordered at the front desk then sat down, we didn't be served a cup of water or be asked if we need anything to drink so we change our order to takeaway. We like dine in at the restaurant that actually provide service. When we got our food and I guess we met the owner, he was very friendly and make sure we got the soy sauce and chopsticks.

Family run restaurant with wonderful avocado rolls. Not a fan of the pad thai, but everything else we tried was good. Small but cute space in the middle of the Glenn. You get the sense that the managers/owners are very stressed, but the service was nice. read more

This place is great! My boyfriend and I were craving some Japanese food one night and this place popped up. Since we first ordered from here, we have tried the beef udon noodle soup, pork udon noodle soup, tempura shrimp udon noodle soup, yaki udon shrimp, spicy ramen, and miso soup. Our favorite by far is the beef udon noodle soup! It has a wonderful flavor and is loaded with vegetables too. The miso soup is also very good, and we always get at least two every time we order. I only wish the spicy ramen was spicier since my spice tolerance is pretty high. The customer service is wonderful too! A few times after we first ordered from here, the staff would remember my name and draw cute pictures as shown in the below images. The woman at the checkout even told me to wait in my car when my order wasn't ready yet and she brought it out to me! Overall, we have wonderful experiences here and will keep coming back for more! read more

This place is a great little find. You can tell the employees (owners?) really care about serving the customer and putting out great food. The menu is wide and varied. The restaurant is small but clean and organized. I ordered a chicken tempura bento box and a cucumber salad. It was about $18. Plenty of food for 2+ meals for me. The bento box had a hefty serving of rice and chicken, 3 gyoza dumplings with a dipping sauce, 4 pieces of California roll and miso soup (soooo good). The cucumber salad wasn't the best one I've ever had but they put the vinaigrette on the side, which was very thoughtful. Plenty of fresh cukes and seaweed. I didn't love the vinaigrette (it was a little smoky) but I didn't have to use it. Definitely tasty, and a good deal. Go support this small business! read more

Was craving sushi during covid-19 and happened across this place. Was a bit skeptical but this ended up being a really good dinner. The sushi tasted great and the miso soup is really flavorful. The customer service is amazing too, I called in and they told me the exact time my food would be ready and the minute I got there it was handed to me right away. They give good portions than other places and I'm definitely going to order from here again and dine in once covid is over! read more

I always order take out via an ap so I have no idea the service or what this restaurant looks like The food is very good I like nigiri sushi and it's hard to find it cut properly with well seasoned rice but this place gets it. The fish is the perfect thickness to get a good ratio of rice to fish and to get the proper flavor of the fish, there are never gross grisly pieces either which is problem at many sushi places. It's a bit pricey for casual/take out sushi, but given the convenience and quality I'm willing pay the extra. read more

I was looking for a new sushi spot and this place came up in my search. It's hard finding a good sushi place in the burbs, but I'm a big fan of fresh sushi. Sushi is also my favorite food, so I'm pretty picky and I don't often write reviews, but this place deserves it. We ordered salmon dragon, eel dragon, and rainbow rolls, and then unagi and salmon nigiri. All of it was fresh and tasty. I will say this is my new favorite spot in the burbs. Owners were friendly and was practicing safe social distancing. Highly recommend, and we'll be coming back. read more

I received my takeout order of 3 rolls in less than 15 minutes. The sushi was fresh and full of flavor. I got the spicy tuna roll and two rainbow rolls. I ate them in 5 minutes. Fantastic job Wajo SushI! read more

So happy to find this gem five minutes from my home in Northbrook. I was looking online for sushi open late and Wajo popped up! Was skeptical as it was already 10 pm and how fresh could the fish still taste after sitting out all day? I'll tell you it was still awesome. We ordered the sashimi dinner, a few maki rolls, and the chicken fried rice. Sashimi dinner was plated beautifully and had a variety of fish. The maki rolls were nicely plated and tasted just as good. The real surprise came from the chicken fried rice - one of the best I've ever had. Even was served with the fried egg on top with sesame seeds! I've been back twice this week. Ps: They also give free miso soup when you order. I'll definitely be going back. read more

Wanted to try out a new place for some sushi and then some- and was blown away!! I ordered quite a bit of food for me and my s/o, to try out as much as we could because we love sushi. The spicy rolls were spicy- not just spiced up with the spicy mayo (which I also loved). The smoked salmon roll was great too!! My boyfriend loved the teriyaki plate, and the spicy ramen was amazing! They even gave us a free sample of the crunchy caterpillar roll, and miso soup. Whoever was working and did that- thank you!! It made my day. 100% will be ordering here more often read more

Ordered via door dash. Not good at all. The spicy mayo is gross and its to bad they put it on top of alot of rolls. Ordered 8 rolls and 2/8 were not bad including the rainbow roll and the one with scallops on top. Were given 1 miso soup for a $100 sushi order but 4 sets of chopsticks.... wont be ordering from here again unfortunately. read more

Been getting carry out from here for a bit, food is really good and the combos are a good value especially compared to other places in the area. 19$ gets you a "fancy" roll with 8 pieces nigiri and miso soup, can't really complain about that at all. read more

I don't know how this restaurant is getting 5 stars; it's not all that. We had ordered their ramen and fried rice and when I say disgusting I mean it. The ramen was water downed and they put so many vegetables you can't taste any meat flavor. Also, it tastes like chemicals to top it off. Their rice is not too good either, if you're looking for authentic fried rice there are better places than here. The older lady at the front desk was rude as we were first time customers. She expected to us to know her menu and the prices shown are not what we paid! If I had known prices are bit more expensive I would have dined here in the first place! They don't seem busy as some employee were sitting and talking to the other gentleman. Change your prices on your boards!!!! The sushi area does not look fresh at all, fish looks dry and old! (sorry to burst bubbles some peoples bubbles) Again, I have no idea how this place has 5 stars, it's nasty food for the price. read more

Fish quality was somewhere between grocery store and a high end sushi restaurant which I consider the sweet spot in terms of value. One thing they could improve is giving you enough soy sauce and a plastic dipping tray on the togo orders. I got a large 8 piece roll and 6 pieces of niguri and had to ration out a single small soy packet for all of it. read more

Sorry to burst everyone's bubble, but there is nothing really special about this place. I ordered twice, rolls and bento. All mediocre including price, taste, and appearance. Ironically, Wa-Jo means, "Come!" in Korean. No, thank you! There are far better options in the Suburbs for the same price. read more

This place would not accept a Local Flavor certificate that I had purchased for this business. Cashier was not even a little sorry about refusing to accept the certificate. He did not even offer the 20% discount that ordering on his website offers. Extremely disappointing!!! read more

My wife and I have been looking for a good Sushi place in the area and we just hit the jackpot! Wajo Sushi is a great new place tucked away at the corner of Milwaukee and Dundee. Had a California roll that was great and much bigger than others we have had, great Miso soup and a great house salad with ginger dressing that was more than just lettuce, carrot shavings and ginger dressing. Next time we will sample much more and can't wait. If you are looking for great Sushi, inviting environment, and great staff, look no further. You will not be disappointed. read more

Jalapeño bombs. Stop everything you are doing and order them right now. One of the best food items I have ever had. The fire dragon roll was also incredible. They wrote a cute message on my food items which always makes me happy. It's the little things. We had this delivered through door dash last week. We got one order of gyoza, three sushi rolls and two miso ramens. The gyoza was tasty. The "ramen" was the worst attempt at ramen I've ever had. The broth tasted like lightly salted water-- no flavor at all. And they were $10 each! The sushi was just okay, nothing special. If you're looking for ramen, skip this place. If you're looking for average sushi, go for it. read more

Ordered for delivery die to statewide shutdown. The menu looks great, lots of choices. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to expectations. Everything was bland almost to the point of flavorless, and those that were worth eating just weren't right. Worst pot stickers and noodles ever, thick, doughy, and flavorless. I do not recommend this restaurant at all. There is too much better Asian food out there. read more

It's very unfortunate I have to leave this review because the food is really good, they have reasonable prices, and the younger lady that makes the food is very kind. However, the older lady who works as the cashier is so incredibly rude that it's hard to want to go back. When you enter, she glares at you like you don't belong there. Then when you correct her on the price that she charged you, she says "well we changed the price but we didn't get around to changing the menu yet and that's not my fault." Then she'll ask you if you really need the soup that your meal comes with. Then when you mention that the menu says the meal comes with soup, she'll say "well we changed the menu to have that meal not include soup anymore but we didn't get around to changing the menu yet and that's not my fault." Absolutely ridiculous. When that lady is rightfully fired, I will change my stars to the 5 this restaurant deserves and go back to supporting this great local sushi joint. read more

I also like the options they had which were not the standard as we find around most places in this area. Usually they're similar rolls with different names.
