This place is incredible. Let's just start with the smell of yumminess that hits you when you walk in the door. Mmmm. The service was fantastic. After my friend and I told the man behind the counter we had never been there before, he handed us a "cheat sheet" so we could read all of the flavors. He then went over the donuts and the fritters and then let us have a few minutes to figure it all out, because there was so much to choose from. We ended up with a large sampling of them, from the Strawberry Cheesecake, which in the best thing ever, to the Maple Bacon. Oh, and an Apple Fritter! They were all so good. - fresh and flavorful. I'm not a person who really likes sweats so much but when you get a taste for something sweet this is the place. Be prepared to wait in line no matter what time of day you go. There are loads of doughnuts to choose from and each doughnut looks and tastes great. I really like the Wake N Bacon doughnuts. Terrific donuts! Was truly pleasantly surprised at how good the donuts are here. They offer both the traditional "yeast" donuts and also cake donuts. Flavors of the yeast donuts are on point! Signature flavors available on website menu but they had a variety of other specials which I'm guessing changes everyday. For instance I had a key lime pie donut, which was fabulous. Great service too, everyone was so kind and patient as we (including two young kids) took our time choosing our donuts. Also they offer nitro cold brew!! What?? Such a pleasant surprise, and it was very good. Americano was good too, and it's a true made-to-order americano from an espresso machine, not a fake pre-made coffee machine. When I first heard a second donut place was coming to CB I was a little confused. Britt's is famous and people wait all off-season for them to reopen...and this place was going to open, off-season, and then try to compete with Britt's in-season? I thought they'd flop. And then I went in. Wake 'n' Bake has a clever name and has done a great job of hopping on the donut trend before anyone else really has in the Wilmington area. Their marketing is stellar with them keeping a strong social media presence and teaming with other local organizations. And then there are the donuts themselves. My favorite is probably the Samoa, modeled after the Girl Scout Cookie, but I've loved pretty much every one I've tried (probably 10 of them at this point). Their fritters are HUGE and good. I've tried to eat a whole one myself, but they're clearly meant for sharing since even me -- with a huge appetite -- can make a couple of meals/snacks out of one. I've been dying to try one of the HUGE donuts, like the Snickers Bomb, filled with an entire Snickers bar, but I'm scared that I'll eat the whole thing myself and then immediately die from too much fat, sugar, and happiness. So now Britt's is reopened and still has the same line it always has but Wake 'n' Bake also has a line of its own. I'm excited that both local businesses are thriving and love keeping an eye on each creative thing Wake 'n' Bake does. Some things I'd love to see: A vegan donut, a cronut (I think these are probably out of their trendy phase at this point, but I've never had one!), more filled donuts. But really, I'm pretty thrilled with what I have -- some stellar donuts and great coffee. The only downside is that I pass it on the way to work every day. I've had to force myself to take a break from Wake 'n' Bake. It's tragic. read more

Very good! I got the wake and bacon, which came highly recommended to me, and it did not disappoint! My daughter got the chocolate fudge donut and she loved it. The only thing that slightly disappointed me was that the Boston cream donut isn't a true Boston Cream donut. Being from Massachusetts originally, my eyes light whenever I see a Boston cream doughnut. However, they are always filled with Bavarian cream instead of the custard filling that I grew up with. THe donut options are insane, we could have gotten 2 dozen but we kept it down to just 6 well these six donuts are awesome. I have been to some insanely good donuts shops but this place is in the top three. I ate a donut with Fruit Loops and one with bacon so goood. Was in Wilmington for a fitness competition so I had been scoping out places to eat the past 14 weeks and wake and bake was at the top of my list! Placed an order on Friday for pick up Saturday morning. The only donut I ended up trying was the Boston bacon and oh my gosh delish! The next morning we finally got around to tasting the rest and they were still so good, better actually than the fresh donuts I got the next day! After a day still tasted fresh! My absolute favorites were the Boston bacon, key lime pie and the pirate one, yum!! I didn't really taste the cheesecake in the strawberry cheesecake one, and creme brûlée I just wasn't impressed with. All of the others were tasty! Recently went gluten free and was excited to try Wake N Bake gluten free donuts since they're regular donuts are amazing! But highly disappointed. Got 2 and they were extreme dense and had a weird almost spongey/rubbery texture, they actually kind of flopped back and forth when you picked it up. Vegan icing on it was ok. I didn't even finish 1 donut and would not be tempted to ever try again. It's actually a 1 star rating for the gluten free donuts, only giving 3 stars cause they're regular donuts are awesome. read more
