We had a wonderful family dinner at Waldo's! It was a perfect spring evening! They had great live music that was fun and made you want to kick back, have fun and dance, or at least tap your foot! They have plenty of tables inside and they have a bar. Parking was not difficult. You order/pay and then they bring your food to your table. Our food came to us before we even got to our table. I was not amazed by my chicken fingers. I thought they were pretty bland and small. The sauces come in the most tiny containers and they are not thick sauces. The sauce is very watery. I like to dunk my french fries or chicken fingers in sauce. The flavors of the sauce were good, but not out of this world to me. The mac & cheese was so dry and not really even room temperature. I didn't think it was a big deal either at all. I probably enjoyed my beer more than my meal. Would I be back to try other items? I'm not really sure. Probably not. read more

This is a family friendly establishment with plenty of seating even during peak hours. The owners, GMs and staff are incredibly friendly. I haven't had anything here that isn't good. Takeout orders are prepared quickly, service is great for dine in. Clean restaurant, greeted almost always when I walk in the door. I don't care much for beans, but the white beans here changed my life. Fried chicken is yummy, never dry. Our go to is the fowl mouth sandwich - it's the right amount of spicy and the coleslaw gives the sandwich nice balance - don't nix this even if you don't like coleslaw! We've had the greens and the mac n cheese - all good and memorable. The corn muffins are worth ordering by the dozen! Great fast casual for the whole family. read more

Usually Waldo's is about my favorite place to eat in Vestavia, but the today when I went the chicken was terrible, there was almost no crust and it was bland. I was also given the wrong sauces which did not help the taste. Again, usually very good but definitely not up to any standards today. read more

I've visited Waldo's a few times now and have gotten the same items. So my review speaks to those things! On different occasions, I've had the chicken tenders, the wings, the fries, the greens, cheddar cheese biscuits, and macaroni and cheese. The good: the tenders have a good taste. They're well seasoned, crispy, crunchy, good. They let you try a few different sauces for your meal (within reason). The fries (when they're seasoned well and are fresh) are great. They serve the beer ICE cold - it's perfect. The wings are always fresh and hot (maybe because they're ordered less often? So they are made to order?). Also, every staff member I've interacted with was nice and helpful. The alright: the macaroni and cheese was okay. Better when I added some seasonings. I've read a few reviews saying the cheddar biscuits are better than Jim n nicks - that's a subjective opinion. I don't think they are. They are sweeter, less cheesy, and heavier than JNN. I prefer the light, airiness of JNN biscuits - these by comparison were like little dough bricks. The not so great: the tenders are little. Like not offensively little (like how they serve at Zaxby's) but they are much smaller than I would expect for this type of restaurant and the price of the tenders. Also, on one visit, the portion size for the entire meal altogether s was just smaller than what I had from them before. So that was disappointing. Because chicken fingers are my favorite food and theirs aren't bad, I imagine I'll be back. I'll just be hoping the portion size gets better! read more

My daughter and I ordered carry out and tried a couple slushy drinks while we waited. I had a margarita slushy, she had a screwdriver slushy--they were out of the peach slushy. My first taste of the slushy was overpowering. The drink was strong and very very cold--brain freeze cold. I'm a light weight when it comes to liquor so I was buzzed by the time we got home and that was from less than half the drink because I wound up spilling it. That was a definite omen. The screwdriver slushy was much milder. My daughter and I ordered the chicken salad. I had slow roasted chicken, she had fried. I think we both licked the container clean. The ranch dressing had a great flavor. Could maybe had a little more chicken. We wanted onion rings but they were out. Our other two dinner mates had the slow roasted plate, chicken wings, and chicken tenders. The containers were empty when we finished so I have to assume they enjoyed their meals. The cheddar biscuits were tasty although I was expecting more in line with Red Lobster cheddar biscuits since they are called biscuits. These are more like cheddar muffins. We have eaten at Waldo's twice. The first was a takeout order of a Bucket of Bird. It came with 8 pieces of fried chicken, 2 sides ( our picks were Mac n Cheese, Potato wedges) and cole slaw plus cheddar biscuits. The chicken has a semi-spicy breading which was crispy and delicious. The chicken was moist and tender. I am not a Mac n Cheese guy but even I found it tasty. My wife and one of my sons were impressed as well. A week later with another of our sons in town we went and ate at the establishment. The interior is bright and inviting.....plenty of tvs for sports viewing which is part of our family equation. I had the quarter chicken as did my wife. This time I ordered fries and collard greens. The greens were cooked to perfection with ham hocks for flavoring and a nice compliment to the bird. One of my sons ordered chicken fingers coated in Buffalo sauce with ranch dressing for dipping. This was his fifth visit so needless to say he really likes Waldo's. Our son who was experiencing Waldo's for the first time ordered the Fowl Mouth, a highly spicy sandwich which he absolutely loved. I had a bite and it will likely be my selection next visit. Waldo's offers six house made sauces. I've tasted 3 and thought all were nice compliments to the chicken. Waldo's hasn't been approved yet for alcohol sales but promise it's coming soon. We live in the immediate area and I foresee this becoming a spot we frequent on a regular basis.
