Compared in flavor, appeal, and deliciousness in the fried crust, I'm sticking with Popeye's. Waldo's does have some things going for it. My wife made the right call. The crispy chicken Scratch Salad was very good. Fresh vegetables. A much better salad than Chick-fil-a. Her comment was that there was almost as much chicken in the salad as there was salad. It was good. If you eat here it is recommended. Originally, I was going to get the chicken strips and a side. I noticed the chicken strips were not battered and fried the same way as the bone in chicken. So, at the last minute, wanting to get the proper Waldo's chicken experience I went with the ¼ white meat plate. A wing, breast, two sides and a small sweet cheddar muffin (That ain't no frick'in biscuit!) For the sides; greens and cucumber tomato salad. The cucumber salad, boring. Now the greens, possibly some of the best I have had. Tender great flavor and lots of bacon. That leaves the chicken. When you first see it, it appears to be incinerated. It is very, very well done. The brine or breading adds to the dark color of the finished chicken. It is just on the edge of being over cooked. The coating retains lots of oil from the fryer. Too much. Not the most appetizing example of fried chicken, in the chicken restaurant industry. It is not for me. The slow roasted chicken is likely a much better choice. We were craving for some spicy fried chicken, and decided to give this place a go. Both the fried chicken and fire-roasted chicken were great. This place is always the go to fried chicken place in Tulsa. They did mess up my order tonight but the management and staff were very accommodating and fixed my to go order after I called them from home. It was a minor mistake but I went back up there to get my new food order( which they made free of charge) and it was hot and fresh and delicious. We ordered a bucket of chicken to go and I have to say we did not enjoy the chicken. This would be a one star review if it weren't for the cucumber salad and coleslaw sides which were delicious. The chicken looked great. It was nice and crispy and looked well cooked but as soon as I took a bite, I was hit with a burnt flavor. The same could be said of the potato wedges. They must have been fried in old oil or something was burnt in the oil. The chicken and potatoes were not burnt; they just tasted like they were. The chicken has a small kick to it and they give you sauce to dip it in which if I am being honest I like to consider good fried chicken with the bbq rule of thumb, no sauce needed if it is good! And let me tell you, it is amazingly good and just over all a perfect place to visit. They have a few sauces but highly recommend the bbq and Rooster sauce. The reason I took off one start is because the guy at the register took a phone call instead of addressing the line in front of him first. My parents have been raving about Waldo's for quite some time now and we finally were able to go check it out! They have chicken in the bone (fried and fire roasted) and chicken tenders. There are also multiple housemate house to choose from. My husband and I not got the 1/4 fried chicken dinner with Mac and white beans. The chicken was delicious! The sides were flavorful as well. My son only eat frozen chicken nuggets (insert eye roll here) so he got a side of fries and macaroni. He liked the fries a lot but they did have a little spice to them. We thought they were pretty yummy as well! Another thing my parents talked about were the cheddar biscuits...you need to get the appetizer of them! They are wonderful!!
