I really liked the flavors at Wanderlust Creamery! Very unique flavors that you don't usually find find at other places and I like that they have seasonal flavors! I tried their Pandan Tres Leches and Black Sesame Cookies & Cream and both were amazing! I liked the black sesame one a little more, it wasn't overly sweet and had a nice nutty flavor. The rainy weather mixed with sunshine in Seattle is making me think about these fancy "Escape Bars" from WANDERLUST CREAMERY that I tried during my last visit to SMORGASBURG in Los Angeles a few weeks ago while I was in town for a quick visit. For $7 a pop, these bars were decadent, creamy, and come in interesting exotic flavors. I still prefer their outstanding scoops that I've had many times in their stores. I've wanted to try their Venice location for a while but never have for one reason or another. Nonetheless, I was finally able to try Wanderlust Creamery at ROWDTLA. I came near closing time, so it's no surprise they were already out of Ube cones *tear*. I ordered two scoops of ice cream - one ube and one Japanese matcha with sesame (I believe?). Ordered the Sticky Rice and Mango ice cream which was vegan. It was smooth and delicious w coconut and mango flavor to it. It was a little pricey with it being $6/scoop so it's better if you can get more scoops as it gets cheaper per scoop. I would've also wanted to try the ube and black sesame flavors, but was too full. I can't believe I haven't written a review about this business. I've tried this place a few times while visiting at Smorgasburg as well as very recently at the 626 Night Market. Both times have been great. What originally brought Wanderlust to my attention was the fact that the co-founder of this business is the granddaughter of a flavor chemist at Magnolia ice cream. For those that are not familiar with Magnolia ice cream is a Filipino ice cream brand that specializes in familiar Filipino household treats like coconut, avocado, mango and you guessed it...ube. I had a feeling that this was going to be a good ice cream shop even just based on that. I grew up eating ube ice cream and I always remember enjoying every bite of it, especially when added to my halo-halo. For my most recent visit at the night market, I went for two scoops. The first scoop was the sticky mango rice ice cream and the second was the ube malted crunch. I have to say, if I had to choose between the two, the ube malted crunch one my heart...hands down. My friend raved out about this place and fortunately we were able to check it out at Smorgasburg LA. Japanese neopolitan: matcha, black sesame, and hojicha. I would say their matcha is the best matcha ice cream I've had by far. The matcha flavor was not overly strong nor sweetened and there wasn't a milky aftertaste. The black sesame flavor was bold enough to stand out on its own even when swirled with the two other flavors. I enjoyed the crunchy milk pieces too--they were sweet which gave the ice cream a nice balance of texture and sweetness! The guy working the kiosk offered to decorate our bowl with an UBE CONE on top for $1 and that really made the overall presentation lovely! Although this is the first time I'm reviewing them, I have been coming for yours. When I'm at smorgasborg I always get at least one ice cream from here. This time I oped for the passionfruit with nibs on top. It was so tart, slightly sweet and fresh tasting, there is truly no better ice cream that I've had. Additionally for someone like me who is a health nut, this is ice cream that I can feel good about eating. Their popular ube malted crunch lives up to the hype, putting a playful spin on ube ice cream (which on its own has become relatively popular as an ice cream flavor in Cali) by introducing some wonderful textural contrast via the malted crunch. The mango sticky rice was also excellent; tastes just like its namesake dessert and probably one of the best non-dairy ice creams I've ever had. And I like that they have a theme to their flavors (travelling inspiration from countries) because they really stay true to delivering the right flavors instead of losing sight of them. I got the Japanese Neapolitan and the Earl gray flavors. I also tried my friend's pretzel rugbraud. All were fantastic, but my personal favorite was the Japanese Neapolitan. With a mixture of matcha, sesame, and hojicha, each bite was so full of joy. And all that, without the caffeine side effects that rain down hard on me...I'm sold! Got to check out Wanderlust Creamery at Smorgasburg LA this past Sunday w a friend! Ice cream was actually pretty good. It was much more creamier & smooth than your usual ice creams. The flavors were unique and different. We got a double with their Sakura Latte & Japanese Neapolitan and both were very good. I personally prefered their sakura latte bc it was sweeter. But their Japanese Neapolitan was good as well and I liked that you can actually taste the macha. I appreciated that both weren't super sweet like some ice cream. We also got the double in an ube cone... But I couldn't really taste ube from the cone... Just tasted like a regular waffle cone to me. Price was alittle pricey (Double $7 + Ube Cone $1 = $8) but it was good so I didn't mind the price too much plus everything at the Smorgasburg is expensive. Wow, these flavors though... Ube Malted Crunch? Sticky Rice + Mango? Abuelita Malted Crunch? YES PLEASE! Wanderlust Creamery was one of the main reasons why I wanted to go to Smorgasburg LA so badly. Coming with 2 other people was a GREAT idea because then we could try 3 different ice cream flavors! We got our scoops in a cup, the ube waffle cone is $1 extra. I would've tried it if we had gotten 1 or 2 scoops but 3 would have been WAY too many for one cone and for the amount of ice cream they give. They are very generous as they should be for the price of one scoop ($5)! I wish I could have sampled all of their flavors though because everything sounded AMAZING. The Ube Malted Crunch was very flavorful but if you get this, I recommend tasting it first before your other flavors because after those it doesn't taste like much unless you cleanse your palate before trying it. It does have a stronger ube taste than other ube ice creams I've tried but it is still lighter compared to the other two flavors we got. This was my second favorite! The Sticky Rice + Mango was very good! Made with their homemade rice milk and mango swirl, this flavor was very creamy, smooth, and sweet. I liked the balance of milky and mango flavor. It did melt faster than the dairy ice creams; i'm guessing it's because of the rice milk base. This was my third favorite flavor. My favorite of the three was Abuelita Malted Crunch! Made with malted milk, mexican hot chocolate, cinnamon,dark chocolate freckles, and malted milk pieces; this flavor was absolutely amazing! A good balance of sweetness and richness and creaminess. Im not a big fan of sweets but when i saw they offered the White Rabbit candy flavor, all i can think of was the nostalgia of me being a kid back in the days excitely ripping the rice paper off the candy before i devour it so of course i had to try the ice cream. The first thing I was asked was "Have you been here before?" I loved that they asked me this because it was in fact, my first time here! When I replied with a, "Yes it's my first time here," the cashier told me I could try all of the flavors. (Say whatttt?! I can sample it all??!) Ube Malted Crunch & Kinder Bueno on an Ube Cone - Ube (pronounced ooh-beh) is the Tagalog word for "purple yam." I was skeptical about this flavor because I didn't want to consume all of that purple food coloring and I didn't want my mouth to turn bright lavender but it's an all natural purple yam (so no, it won't stain my teeth). I decided to give it a go. Kinder Bueno is a chocolate bar made by Ferrero. I lovvveeee the hazelnut chocolate so this was by far my favorite flavor. 2. Tonka Bean & Smokey Road - I know... you're probably like "Tonka what?!" That's what I said too. It predominantly taste like vanilla bean and amaretto. It's extra rich vanilla bean with a hint of caramel flavor. That's the only way I can describe it. The smokey road was equally amazing especially since I'm a fan of rocky road ice cream. The mango was a little sour and tangy which worked well with the sweet coconut ice cream. Ube had great taro flavor and was not overly sweet.
