We had Noodle with 4 sides/choices : Tofu Yuba spring rolls, Daikon mochi, Vegetable mix and Hot and sour soup. And their original cheesecake. All vegetables. They don't use meats or eggs. I don't know how they make and taste like meats. Loved their thin noodle with lots of vegetables, added celery. Loved Tofu Yuba spring rolls and Daikon mochi. Their original sauce, ginger sweet oil sauce was delicious. I ate dipped with this ginger oil, even adding to my noodle. Usually Hot and sour soup is as 1 Ala carte menu, $3, but we always ask them, to include my 4 choices(sides), instead of buying separately. We love and always get their Cheesecake. This Cheesecake is the best ever. $12 for whole cake. Prices were reasonable. Staffs were helpful. Food was fresh. They open only lunch time during weekdays. Thank you so much. Seriously, what doesn't taste good here? Nothing. If vegetarian food can taste like this all the time, I honestly don't mind being a vegetarian. I come here not even thinking about vegetarian food, I just want some delicious Asian food and whatever they put out there I'll eat it. They usually have the sweet and sour soup, but one day they had this lau lau soup with coconut milk in it that's so yummy. I don't consider this a Hawaiian restaurant but hey that's what they served that day, I'd try it and I hope they make it again soon! It's cafeteria style so you pick a size and choose your items. Add soup to make it a combo or not. Some dishes they offer include stir fry veggies with tofu or mock meat, tofu wrap, turnip cake, gyozas, broccoli with mock meat, fried rice, clear glass noodle stir fry, yellow noodle stir fry. I'm not sure if they use egg at all? I think so? Service has always been friendly. The ladies are all very nice. They speak Cantonese or mandarin as well. It looks like their Japanese cheese cake is always sold out. Guess next time I just have to go earlier. Place is big enough to fit a crowd. This place is a favorite of my parents'! Everything is vegan, and since it is all cooked already and you're just picking what you want (like a Panda Express or Chipotle), it is also very quick! The starch base (noodles or rice) is always two scoops, so my parents like to get half & half (one scoop of each) for extra variety. I'm a noodle person, so I got noodles. The menu outside of that changes around, I think daily, but I don't think I have had anything from here that I didn't like! The veggie pancake they had on this last visit was especially tasty! My non-veg husband finds the food very filling, but otherwise likes it as well. The decor is relatively spartan but modern, like an upgraded cafeteria, and the workers and patrons do a pretty good job of keeping it all clean. Also, there's a couple of cold cases in the back where you can buy vegetarian mock meats and other items, which is worth checking out. My Mom and I are both big fans of their vegan rou song (shredded dried pork floss). We come here at least once every time we visit my parents, so safe to say I'll be back. We stopped here for a relaxing lunch while in the area. This place from the outside gave a positive vibe plus Yelp reviews were consistently high . Both were confirmed after eating here. The food (only vegan options) was simply delicious! I tried mabo tofu and green papaya salad. The dining area is clean and spacious with a lot of natural light. The casual set-up is you go up and order your food and select from prepared dishes (like Panda Express style). Its location is in central part of downtown, so parking could be a challenge unless you are already in the area taking care of business. Let me start by saying you do NOT need to be a vegetarian to enjoy Water Drop Vegetarian restaurant. I'm pretty certain most of the clientele are carnivores or pescatarian. Ugh, again with the labels... But I think it's important so you don't let the name stop you from trying the delicious dishes they are serving at this downtown restaurant. In fact, I introduce people to this place all the time because I'm so confident they will enjoy their meal. My husband was the one who insisted we try this place and he's not a vegetarian but can always find something he enjoys. And he really enjoys the food here. Their menu rotates and they post it on Facebook. But it doesn't matter, they are putting out solid selections every day of the week. Sometimes I don't check and just go to surprise myself. Everything is good! You get a choice of noodles or rice or combo and two choices for just $11 (no tax), for $14 you get three choices. Portions are generous. Your only problem will probably be trying to decide what to pick! My favorites are their turnip cake, spring rolls, and fried veggie cake. I used to love these items at dim sum but since I gave up land animals I can't often enjoy these familiar flavors and textures. But I can when I go to Water Drop... And I go often! Since I can walk from my office, I go at least once a month. Service is fast, the ladies are so friendly, and they offer a water and hot tea station. It's perfect for a downtown lunch hour. I walked from my office to this eatery downtown on the day after New Year's. Keep in mind, all the holiday eating, of mostly meat and seafood, I thought I better have a tasty serving of veggies for lunch and boy was this good! There was a line to order but it moved quickly. When it was my turn to order, I was pleasantly surprised that they didn't run out of anything. One of the Buddhist monks came from the kitchen to inspect supply at the hot table so i guess i dont have to worry about future visits and running out of options. I ordered the hearty fried rice with two options. First was a tofu and green beans. I appreciate that the beans were fresh and not sitting out long. The tofu had great flavor and wasn't oily. The second choice I picked was jai. Visually I could tell it would be similar to Popo's recipe because I could see the red fermented bean curd for flavoring the cabbage, noodles, and tofu skin. Even though I ordered my lunch to go, I could see that the dining area was very clean. My server was cordial and my meal was reasonably priced. I am dreaming of my next plate from Water Drop! One of my workers graciously bought me a plate from Water Drop and I am forever thankful for that! For years now I've been wanting to try this place as one of my former coworkers used to go here all the time. But it just never worked out because it's hard for me to find parking and go into downtown since my lunch break is not so long. I don't know the names of each dish she got me, but you can see from the pictures what the plate included. The plate was filled to the top and everything was so so tasty! It was enough for almost 3 meals. It's filled with so many things that you don't even realize it's vegetarian. My fav was the bean curd rolls and the bun filled with some kind of mushroom filling. After passing this place so many times I decided today is the day to try this place. Frankly I prefer meat in every meal but...omg..the food here is delicious! I walked inside and was super hesitant. The server was so friendly and welcoming. She was excited to share what they had and menu items. Lots of things looked like they were sold out but she said they were preparing more food. And! They take credit card! I walked through the line and noted everything is very bright, clean and airy. I looked at the other items and impulsively purchased a bag of fruit for a few dollars. Much cheaper than grocery store and even farmers markets. Sitting now as I enjoy the fried rice and noodles.. light and flavorful. The winter melon makes my taste buds happy! I have eaten here numerous times. The catch is getting there during their limited hours, 11AM to 2PM, M-F. When you walk in, there is a fridge on the right. Get the plum tea/juice. Trust me on this, I always get one. There are other goodies in there, so take a look. You can get a 2, 3 or 4 item plate. I almost always get the 2 item plus soup and add the drink. Noodles or rice are automatically included and don't count as an item. Most people get half rice, half noodles. I get noodles only. The menu changes daily. Eggplant, bean curd, spring rolls, curry, mixed vegetables, etc. They're all good, but I especially like the bean curd and curries. They also have fruit or dessert a lot of times at the register. Tap to pay, or cash. Their is a restroom in the back on the left. And a temple upstairs. Yes, an actual temple for worship. I think the monks help prepare the food and it's all ladies serving. Very tasty food and a nice variety of vegan choices each time you go. One time I went almost 40 minutes before closing, and they had nearly run out of food for the day so if you're going to go, go early. This place is so awesome for vegetarian food and it's decently priced too! Pro tip: since their menu changes everyday - check out their FB page around 11-11:30am for their menu of the day! They have pictures too :) The day I went they had rice and fried noodles for their starch and I was able to get half of both. The rice had edamame and some type of seasoning to it cause it had tons of flavor. The fried noodles is my favorite. It's hard to believe that it's vegetarian because it has this delicious shrimp flavor to it. The braised turnips had tons of seasonings and weren't bitter at all. There was also a type of fake meat in this too and I found myself not missing actual meat at all. The spring rolls are super yummy and crunchy. Lots of good veggies in the filling. The vegetable tempura had a light crunch and love the different vegetables they used for the tempura. Ever since they opened this place has been one of my favorite eateries in downtown. Every plate I've had from here has always been delicious and satisfying. The best part is, the food is vegetarian! The workers are friendly, quick, and efficient on getting your plates packed and it seems to be runned like a well-oiled ship by an all women crew. Might I add, the workers are very knowledgeable about all the ingredients in the dishes. They are only open for lunch during the week and each weekday has specific dishes on the menu. My favorite days are when they have the potstickers, bean curd, or fungi. The noodles and rice with taro are a must try here. I've tried their milk tea and enjoyed it as well. Honestly.. I can go on about the food. I have yet to try their other desserts they have like grass jelly and tapioca. The prices are fair for the portion of food they give, which is more than enough for one person. Unfortunately, since I work in town I get here by foot. I am not sure where you can park. But, if you do work or are in the downtown area this place is definitely worth trying out. Four and a half stars. I came here when I used to work downtown and ever since I have been thinking of coming back. Today I walked with a friend just to eat here. So, when I first ate here I was a full carnivore. I thought it was delicious. I'm very open minded when it comes to new foods, however it has to have flavor and taste. This place has both. Today I have to say that I have been vegetarian for three weeks. I am trying to detox only but if I chose meat it is usually chicken. The only time I will eat beef is for pho. I just can't say vegetarian pho. It has to have the beef. However I haven't had pho in three weeks. Anyhow, everyday they change the menu. There is a line like a buffet and you choose 2,3, or 4 choices with your starch. The starch consists of noodles. Today they were thin rice noodles. Sometimes they have thicker noodle and there is also like a fried rice with mushrooms and carrot. All the food is light and flavorful and amazingly enough they don't use garlic nor onion I read. They do use ginger and black pepper for spice and they have a nice spicy dipping sauce. I love this place and if it were near my office I would go more often. Yes, the prices went a little up, but for the work and the skill to make vegetarian food tasty, hands down they are top!! I had a 4 choice meal. Noodles, a spicy tofu with starfruit (unusual and surprisingly good and sweet but not too much), a tofu with vegetables and just plain green veggies. I split my container in two so tomorrow I can eat it again!! I also recommend the hot and sour soup. Plenty of mushrooms and vegetables with a nice sour and peppery taste. This is one of the better, Chinese vegetarian places. They're set up is like Panda's - choice of one, two, three or four. If you can't decide noodles or rice, they'll do half-and-half. Make your selections and pay at the end of the counter. Their ambiance is clean, modern, no music. The only reason why I don't frequent here more often is because of their limited hours of operation. They are only open for lunch, Monday through Friday. Closed on weekends. See pic for their weekly menu. On Tuesdays, black fungus is on the menu. How do they make the fungus so soft and tender? and tasty without using garlic? Why is it when I cook fungus, it's al dente or In pieces when I try to make it more tender. Am I buying the wrong fungus? More likely it's my technique than the ingredient. I wish this Buddhist sec would produce youTube videos on how to cook like they do. Then I would be more inclined to eat less meat and buy the ingredients they sell in the refrigerator. Today I tried their vegetarian potstickers and I enjoyed it. Whenever I want to give my body a break from meats, this is where I go for total vegetarian meal. It's very filling, but your fried noodles and stew vegetable rice will help sustain you. Then, there's this Homemade Tofu, chinese shoyu broth with daikon, and shiitake mushrooms. I liked the flavor and tofu texture (meat-like), a good way to trick the brain. The next side is Lo Han Jai which has broccoli, bean curd, rice noodle, fungus, carrots, baby corn, and rice noodles. If you're a Jai lover? This is very nice, tender vegetables. Everyday has an assigned menu and sometimes additional items like a vege manapua and mochi bun texture...my favorite. They do practice social distancing and mask wearing. Why don't you check it out? If you ever wanted to eat in a tranquil oasis, then this is the spot for you! All vegetarian and in some cases vegan food. Your can select two, three or four choices for your options and either split or have one starch choice (either a noodle or rice mix). Their entree choices change daily or frequently depending on what they make. Their rolled entrees (eg tofu or bean curd rolls) are very delicious. Their entrees all have a distinct taste so don't let the looks fool you. If you want it spicy, ask for some chili sauce (sambal). This complements perfectly. When i'm looking for a combination of tasty meal and work retreat I love to come here. The staff works quickly and are very courteous. Service is quick and you chose to dine in or take out. You have to park on the street. There's paid parking next door but I don't think they validate. Until I tried Water Drop, and they may be the only reason why I would convert :) It's a cafeteria-style joint with good food and good service and a price that's very reasonable downtown - recommended! === 2. FOOD Served by the Buddhist team that occupy the temple upstairs, all of the food is naturally vegetarian in nature. There are one or two dishes you can get a la carte (wonton and a small bowl of soup at this time), but they serve primarily plate lunches from a set of prepared foods, Chun Wah Kam-style. Half of your plate consists of a starch of your choice, typically brown rice, fried rice noodles (thin), fried noodles (thicker) and the very addictive but mysteriously-named stew veggie rice, which doesn't seem to have any stew in it...that's my go-to choice usually! You pay by the number of entrees you choose; they have roughly 7 or 8 choices daily, and if you get two choices, it's $8, three choices $10, or four choices $12. The choices range from assorted veggies, to a more traditional jai, to a vegetarian-freiendly curry, to turnip cake, to a vegetarian "meat" that's served sweet-and-sour style. Potstickers are also available fomr time to time; check in-shop daily, as the choices change on a daily basis. Wheelchairs and strollers certainly fit, though spacing between tables may limit you to the window-based tables. Parking may be the only drawback of this place as there's no parking in building or on the streets nearby. I came here on 09.20.2021 and wasn't sure what choices they had. I used to get the bean curd rolls, pancake (sometimes switching the pancake for another option), and usually all noodles. I ended up getting the bean curd rolls, homestyle tofu, and noodles. I asked the lady if I could get a third choice because I wanted to try the turnip cake because it looked so good, but when I asked the lady about it, she said there wasn't any. Clearly I saw a bunch of rectangular fried looking things in there, which I assumed was the turnip cake. So I thought I mistakenly mixed up the names of the food that was listed, but there was food in both warmers. Maybe it was just a miscommunication. So I let that go. Food quality: I honestly love the sauce that the bean curd rolls come with. I forgot to ask for the sauce on the side. I love putting it on my noodles, too. The home made tofu's texture was rubbery. So I wouldn't get that again. I was bummed because it looked so good. The bean curd rolls were good as always. I apologize not taking photos on this visit. I've been here before and done take out as well. Their carefully prepared food is vegan and tasty. For anyone who thinks vegetarian food is boring hasn't been to Water Drop. You can have noodles or rice with a choice of one, two or three sides (assorted veggies & tofu (prepared in incredible ways), and potstickers . Sauces are available on the side as well. The restaurant itself is bright and clean and looks over Alakea and Queen Streets (downtown). The items available each day vary so you always have a great selection to chose from. I'm not a vegetarian but I wanted to try this place. I think it's always good to try something new every so often. I tried their 2 choices with 1 starch. This place is ran like Panda Express. You can see all the choices right in front of you. I chose chow mein, wood ear fungus, and something that was mochi/tofu (I really don't know what it was but it was good), and spring rolls. I got their combo with milk tea with boba. It came out to $11.50. Chow mein was perfectly seasoned. They gave 2 spring rolls and they were fresh. I was hoping to try some kind of egg plant or tofu dish. Choices were limited. I'm pretty sure due to Covid, they don't make too much. Milk tea was premade so you can't ask to adjust sweetness. However, the lady informed me that it's not too sweet. She was right it was perfect to my taste. It was a regular black milk tea. It was national milk tea day so I had to get it. I think the best part was that I didn't feel overly stuffed after I was done eating. I think that's the difference when you don't meat. I hope to return and try more. I was in the area and popped in here. I heard it was good vegetarian food and I'm currently trying to eat less meat so it seemed like a food choice. I got takeout and everything was super easy. Quick service, everyone was nice. The food choices all kind of look the same but don't be deceived by the looks; each dish has a very distinct flavor. The tofu "beef" with okra is super good. Also the noodles are great too. Definitely recommend both of those. Portions are decent and prices are reasonable. Definitely one of the better vegetarian eateries I've been to. read more
