What a disappointment. I was very excited to start my weekend off by grabbing some drinks on a rooftop bar over looking the beach and figured that watermark would be the perfect location! Upon arriving I witnessed the most atrocious scene: the bouncers were yelling at a group of young women celebrating what appeared to be a bachelorette party. The bride in the group kept asking to speak with a manager but was abruptly denied with out any explanation and was repeatedly called "crazy" which is absolutely not okay in 2018. I was so disappointed because I've been to this establishment before and have had a pleasant time but after witnessing this scene, I immediately turned around and decided to go elsewhere. read more

Great spot by the beach! I wish we had this bar in NYC! The decor is pottery barn/beach chic. There is ample space for relaxing and taking in the awesome beach views from both the outdoor deck and the indoor lounge area. Having recently looked at a ton of wedding venues, this would also be a great spot for an unconventional wedding or an awesome party. The drinks were great and reasonably priced (compared to NYC). There is a huge selection of innovative cocktails inspired by Milk & Honey & Death & Co. We didn't stay for dinner, but the food looked amazing. I think I saw some kind of lobster roll situation that I'm still dreaming of. Will definitely be back and next time will stay for dinner! I came here over memorial day weekend to start our night off, and I was pleasantly surprised. I loved the atmosphere of the place. It definitely has a lounge type feel to it, along with the loungey music (which is the only thing I'm not a fan of) It has all the components of being awesome- having the view of the beach/ocean, rooftop area to drink outside, fireplace to cuddle in by. Stopped in for drinks before dinner somewhere else. There is a great view of the beach and the Stoned Pony Summer Stage. On this night, Primus was playing in about 15 minutes, and they were charging a $20 cover. We told them we were just coming in for a drink before dinner (I had just seen Primus at The Welmont, didn't need to see that show again) and they said "No problem!" and waived the cover. Super cool of them. Also, the drinks were stiff and, despite being on a rooftop, came in regular glasses, not plastic. I'm sure that won't last forever, but it was nice. The physical layout of the bar is spectacular. The drinks were nothing special... typical and overpriced like you can get anywhere else in Asbury. The staff seemed nice enough, but the real problem here is the clientele. I've been to bars all over and there seemed to be a very scary "element" here. I actually felt scared of the people who were very...ummm... "passive agressive", with the emphasis on "aggresive". I mean, I've been in NJ and NYC for 40 years, and these were some of the scariest people I've encountered. After a discussion with some friends, we decided they were best classified as "rich trash." SOOOOOO this place went down hill lol (at least in my opinion). The place definetly draws a huge crowd, but like i said before... it's revolving. I brought a friend here, he really liked the decor, but that was about it. I talked up the drinks, and first sip... it was different. TASTED CHEAP!!! OMG i'm paying for a $14 martini in ASBURY... it better taste like the best thing ever (which it did) but now it tasted like something from a cheap bar with plastic cups. This place SHOULD be getting 4 stars. The outdoor lounge is super cool, the drinks are delicious (if a bit overpriced) and the bar food is outstanding (again, if a bit overpriced). Last summer I came here during a Matisyahu concert which was across the street at the Stone Pony outdoor venue, and had a great time enjoying the concert (for free) at a distance, sipping my cocktail, and I hoped to do the same this summer for the Sublime concert. Alas, the Watermark didn't shut off their own music, making the atmosphere pretty terrible. There was a weird combination of Justin Timberlake-esque music coming from their speakers, and the live music that I actually wanted to be listening to coming from across the street. This really bothered me, like come on, they should figure this out. But all in all, I think I may be being a bit harsh. There's really no other place quite like it one the boardwalk. Also, great view of hte sunset over the ocean if you can snag a spot at the ledge. read more

Came here last Thursday night for a friends birthday. We had a great time. The service was very friendly, Thanks Mike! The ambiance is great with great indoor and outdoor seating made from awesome sections of couches that seem like VIP sections. Can one really low ball the establishment that hosted the most fun bachelorette party ever? I think not!! This is a beautiful place with comfortable seating and a decent cocktail menu. It was the perfect way to start a fun night out with a bunch of girls. We got lucky and were able to snatch up the corner seating area near the DJ booth, though there was no DJ there while we were there between 8:30 and midnight. The music choices left something to be desired, but the location alone helps this place stay busy and popular. I can imagine how awesome it must be to have a cocktail in the summer time. There's a nice outdoor area that we, unfortunately, did not get to enjoy much as it was fairly cool out. Some downsides: You can only reserve seating for a party of 20 or more. The cocktails are decent (and most are under $12), but no where near being NYC quality, though they do have some nice infused vodkas. The tapas menu could be expanded as well. I loved that this place while trendy, seemed diverse and down to earth. I would totally recommend this place to anyone looking to have a relaxed time- just get there early enough to snatch up one of those couches! read more

I absolutely LOVE the Watermark. This is a great lounge, with a fabulous view of the beach. During the summer I've been told you can listen in on concerts at the Stone Pony for free too! The decor is gorgeous. I want the basement of my future home to look like this place. Certainly not the place to meet potential hookups/dates...come here with a group you enjoy the company of, grab a few couches and chaise lounges and chat away. Depending on the night, it can be heavy on the gay or hipster scene. But everyone is friendly! Drinks are not cheap, but they aren't ridiculous either. I think the price is worth it when you consider how lovely the space is! Oh, and when 1:30 rolls around head over to Paradise for some after hours dancing :) read more

My go-to for a classy bar / lounge in the area. I've come here many times now and will continue to go. Never had a bad experience. The inside is nice, with comfortable chairs and a fireplace. There are also a few balconies, the main one with an outdoor bar and views both east (right on the ocean) and west. Design is beautiful all around. The drinks menu is well thought out and quite unique in their selection of cocktails. I recommend trying the Rosemary Collins (a gin cocktail... I love gin). They also have a decent selection of beers, and prices are about what you'd expect. Bartenders have always been very friendly and quick with the service. Great date spot to hit up before (or after) dinner as well. read more

Asbury Park's transportation planner and a freelance writer co-hosted a bike tour of the city . We rode for 4 hours, visiting neighborhoods and landmarks. Finally, we stopped here for farewell cocktails on their roof deck overlooking a shining sea to the east and Stone Pony's outdoor stage to the west. They have a great choice of cocktails, attentive service, and a beautiful setting! A great place to rest your feet and quench your thirst! read more

Literally the best drinks I have ever had. I liked them so much I couldn't have one more than once. I wanted so badly to try them all. Of course, to try all of the drinks in "the bible" would take way more time/tolerance than I have in one weekend, but I will definitely be back again to continue to make my way through the list. An excellent selection of infused liquors and fresh-made ingredients are the keys to their drinks. Every one is unique and delicious. They only lose a star for having really loud music inside at night. This is a pretty rad place. It caters to a swankier crowd than most bars in the area. Actually there are two crowds, the gay crowd and the straight crowd who is hanging with the gay crowd. The atmosphere is really nice, last night it was nice with the giant windows for views of the snow covered beach and the fire place. In the summer they have a deck with lounge chairs. Drinks are expensive, but you aren't just paying for them, you're paying for a hassle free night. This isn't a bullshit kinda place where fights occur, so to be around a pretty tame crowd, I'm okay with spending $10 for a rum&coke. Also, if you are straight and single, this isn't the place to hook up, so just be forewarned. I've never had the food so I can't comment on it, but the staff is very nice and the owner is always on site. If you're nice enough he may just dance with you. I love this place and my boyfriend is utterly infatuated. It has an awesome outdoor patio and a beautiful inside with couches overlooking the ocean (stunning view) and a gorgeous fireplace in the back of the lounge. I think it's 100 times better than Avenue in Long Branch. We had a cocktail waitress on a Friday night who was awesome, she knew the menu well and she was super friendly and pleasant. The place could be very pretentious, but I don't think it is at all. There's a very eclectic group of people here, which I liked. Whether you're 21 or 55, gay, straight, male or female, you'll still feel at home. My only complaint...don't get the cheese plate...I'm a bit of a snob when it comes to cheese, but they could do a lot better. Nonetheless, awesome views, great service, great drinks, good prices (bottles of wine were $20-$45). I'm sold! read more

maybe I'm getting old, but starting an afterparty at 5 in the evening is a great idea. Watermark was pretty damn baller and I'm glad we ended up here. after lunch at Firefly, most of our group ended up at Watermark. it's a ginormous lounge with extremely comfortable seating, fireplaces, and wonderful views out on to the beach. okay, so said beach is still undergoing repairs from Sandy, but I'm sure in the summer it would be an excellent sight. music was perfect - no need to yell, it was fairly subdued. happy hour on the weekends? sign me up! I stuck to hot apple cider with bourbon all evening long, as it was one of the best hot spiked cider drinks I've had yet in terms of flavor and strength. 7 bucks a drink during happy hour (if you come here, it's definitely for the mixed drinks) is a solid deal. the drinks menu was very intriguing and had a flair for the adventurous. new spins on old classics, plus some in-house specialties. it feels like it would be a bit more at home in Manhattan, but I was happy to not deal with cramped space and annoying clientele like many Manhattan lounges are filled with. I can't say enough great things about Watermark. It's not your typical Jersey Shore nightlight spot. And that's why I love it. It's a New York-esqe lounge with the chill Jersey vibe and gorgeous view of the ocean. The ambiance is really nice. I've been a bunch of times with friends, but it's perfect for a date night. I had a friggin blast here. Arrived around 11:00 and the music the DJ was playing was right up my alley! Old school. Around 12:30 ish or so the music became top 40 pop and the crowd changed to a totally not top 40 pop crowd. Asbury Park pleasantly surprised me. This bar is spectacular! Aside from the amazing view from the roomy and comfortable rooftop deck, the bar is just beautiful. My favorite part of this place is that you can walk in dressed to the nines, or in shorts and a t-shirt with a baseball cap and they don't care. Makes for a great mixed crowd and a super comfortable setting. While the decor reminds me of the lounges in South Beach, the attitude here is very laid back, like a good Jersey Shore bar should be. Their beer selection is wonderful and they don't skimp on the mixed drinks. The staff is always very nice and they are not pretentious at all. Great place. Great atmosphere. Nice view of Asbury and overlooking the ocean. It's more of a lounge so plenty of seating. Gets pretty crowded at the bar. One thing we noticed was each time my friends and I bought a round of the same drinks the prices changed. Not sure what that's about. The female bartender this past Saturday night charged almost $10 more than the male bartenders at the inside bar. Bathrooms pretty clean. Definitely get there early to avoid a wait. Drinks are pretty good too. A little bit of an older crowd which is nice to avoid the much younger crowds at the bars located more downtown. read more

How adorable this place is! It totally makes me feel like I never left NY. I think I remember reading on the menu that its run by people that own a couple bars down in the LES. Death and Co perhaps? I didnt try any of the food but their menu seems extensive. They have a lot of fruit and tea infused liquors. I wanted the green tea vodka but apparently its not too well liked? I wasnt sure, but I was told to get their signature vodka lemonade drink. Ok, but not the best. Their drinks are strong and their all night Thursday happy hours drive a good crowd. The outdoor decks must be so crowded on the weekend, My only gripe was the music. For a hip and trendy place they could surly use some hp and trendy music to go along. read more

Elegant, classy with the best view of the Asbury Park beach. This would be the perfect place to bring a person for a first date if you want to leave a good mark on his/her heart. Definitely lovely place, the ambiance is so relaxed and smooth that it makes you feel like a very special person just by being at this place. It is on a second floor, there is an outside open area and an indoor area with a bar on both sides. The lounges are very comfortable, one side has a fireplace. The drinks made by Grey the bartender were really good, I had to resist the urge to try them, but I saw everyone going back over and over for more. First, this bar is near impossible to get into. I understand they're trying to limit capacity due to COVID, but it is quite difficult nonetheless. You have a small 3 hour window you need to make a reservation in, on the same day. We tried making a reservation days ahead of our arrival (we wanted to go Labor Day weekend on vacation) and were told they don't take reservations in advance and to call back same day around 2pm. We then waited, and called at 2:02pm on that same day and no answer. Luckily, my boyfriend emailed and the owner was nice enough to accommodate. The reason for the negative review, truthfully, is the staff. As mentioned earlier, there is a pandemic going on. Obviously NJ is beginning to reopen, but nonetheless, guidelines are still intact. When we arrived, we were seated on a couch next to a larger group. This made us feel a bit uncomfortable considering it was just my boyfriend and I and there was an empty couch literally directly across from us where we would've been more spaced out. When my boyfriend asked if we could move there, he was told "no" because they might need that couch for another reservation, but that last reservations were at 10pm, so if no one showed up by then we could move. Interestingly, our reservation was at 10pm, and we showed up after 10pm, so she contradicted herself. A couple of two showed up about 25-30 mins after us and was given the empty couch which we inquired about, even though we showed up well before them. Next, we ordered white sangria. It wasn't really as sweet as we would've hoped (tasted like seltzer) so we asked to return it. The waitress was nice enough to exchange for something else, which we appreciated. However, when she came around for last call and gave us the check, my boyfriend put down his credit card to which she came over and told him it's cash only. He then had to leave the bar, run all the way to the end of the boardwalk, find the only atm open at 11pm (all the way in Convention Hall), take out cash, and run all the way back while I sat at the table. A few things: 1) no where on the website does it say it's cash only 2) At no point when we made the reservation were we informed it was cash only 3) at no point prior to starting our tab did the waitress inform us it was cash only. Also, interestingly, when I went to use the restroom before leaving, there was an atm right outside. So, 4) at no point, even as she clearly saw my boyfriend go running to find one, were we informed that there was an atm 5 ft away outside the restroom. Truly, very poor communication, or lack thereof. Also, why only accept cash when there is a pandemic and most places are going contactless? It's 2020...???? Needless to say, my boyfriend and I were pretty frustrated. The bar itself is very nice, the lights at night look beautiful, it's a relaxing atmosphere and it's in a nice location overlooking the beach. However, with the way the staff was, it made for an unpleasant experience overall. Not sure we will be back anytime soon. read more

I went there for the first time in late June 2015. The sun just broke out. We had a few drinks and appetizers. My husband loved his IPA. My champagne drink was worth the $$. While the review suggests that the best days are Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, in the summer I'd recommend coming a little early-ish (8-8:30) on Wednesday nights because you couldn't ask for a nicer view of the Wednesday night fireworks in Asbury Park. Since I'm not necessarily Miss Moneybags, I don't think I could afford to drink here regularly (or have many drinks in one night) HOWEVER, I can't imagine a better place to start the night off with a fancy shmancy cocktail. I enjoyed a Ginger Mojo, a mojito featuring muddled ginger, and was pleased with the taste as well as the alcohol content. For $10, you can't help but want some bang for your buck, and I was not disappointed. It was totally packed at the outside bar, but we just scampered right into the (empty) indoor section and didn't have to wait at all for our beverages. The bartender wasn't exactly friendly, but was certainly polite enough. Honestly, they were so swamped that I wasn't too surprised he wasn't feeling particularly chatty. The music volume was pretty loud, but they did turn it off during the fireworks, which my eardrums were thankful for. Moments after the last explosion, the mix of house-ish, slower techno remixes, etc. quickly resumed. Soon after, we took our leave for greener (quieter) pastures, but my taste buds hold fond memories of the Ginger Mojo. read more

NYC style bar on the Jersey Shore without NYC prices. I love this place; favorite spot in Jersey. In the summer you can sit on the rooftop patio with cocktails and enjoy the ocean view and in the winter you can cuddle up on the sofa in front of the fire place.
