I rarely write reviews, but tonight calls for a review. The service at watermark was not acceptable. Specifically, the older Italian "security" guy that monitors the bathroom was way out of line. For starters, this is for the pride festival weekend. My cousin who is a tomboy, was rudely ostracized while trying to use the women's bathroom, so she decided to use the men's bathroom. While using the men's bathroom, there was a loud knock on the stall door, followed by a loud man's voice saying "you cannot use the bathroom". When she told them to shut up, thinking it was some rude guy just giving her an attitude, she was told she had to leave the bar. Come to find out that the loud and rude man was the 65+ bouncer that never identified himself as security. As members of the LGBTQ+ community, this did not sit right with us. We personally had a civil conversation with this said bouncer and we apologized for speaking to him in any rude way, but he did not care. His words were "I didn't like the way ya talked to me. Time to go." We were taken to an exit in the back with no instruction on how to actually exit the bar. I've come to this bar on multiple occasions, but from now on, I will not be coming back. This was so uncalled for and is completely unacceptable. I hope that management holds people like this accountable in the future and definitely should not allow individuals like this to work at a bar that is supposed to be LGBTQ+ acceptable. read more

Watermark stands above the rest for many reasons. Most obvious is the killer view of the Asbury Park beach & boardwalk from their second floor main room & two decks. The owner Russell runs a great business with a professional team who's goal is to provide a seamless & memorable experience. You'll feel like guests in a friend's home here. That rocks. Although I've been here twice for drinks, I got married here so must of my review will focus on my wedding experience. Management: Russell was amazing and professional and flexible with me. Food: If you have ever been married then you know that you don't get to eat as much as you should at your own wedding but the dishes that I did get to taste were amazing. I had like 4 lobster rolls and the tuna dish and steak and mashed potato dish was just amazing. All of my guests raved about the food which is one of the most important thing for me. Drinks: They make specialty cocktails for your event and I love that they had Brugal (Dominican rum) inspired cocktails. Space: Super spacious and modern. We did not have to worry about decorations or choosing the "perfect napkin". Although not super warm the day of our wedding, I loved the fact that our guests had the option to go to the rooftop area as they pleased and we were able to capture amazing pictures out there! This is ideal for people who want a stress-free wedding and want to focus on the bigger picture (celebrating and sharing your love!). My husband and I are going to make a it point to go to Asbury at least once a year for our anniversary and Watermark will definitely be one of our stops! Went here for their "Beach" event to enjoy a seafood dinner and drinks with my girlfriend. I will say that the way they advertise the event is not exactly what we got. It's advertised as sunset views and tons of lights, but the sun sets on the opposite side of the city and there were very few fairy lights. Anyways, the food was pretty solid, I'd give it 4 stars. The lobster roll and the lobster Mac were super yummy. The crab cake sliders were just okay. The drinks were also solid. Fun time! read more

It was pouring rain outside sideways and we had been inside and spent $100+ and as we waited for an Uber by the doors, a doorman told us we "had to leave" because he "needed to lock the doors" as if 1:10 made a difference vs 1:20 when it's raining sideways when there's no awning outdoors. Watermark's the spot. I've never eaten here, so I can't speak for the food, but it's got to be the best bar - and one of the few bars - along the Asbury boardwalk. The outdoor patio offers a great view of the ocean and all the action on the beach. The cocktails are excellent and served with prices you would expect to pay in a place like this (in the $12-13 range). Very classy ambience indoors as well, with lounge seating that makes it kind of awkward to eat, which is probably why the menu is limited to lounge-ish food. (I wouldn't want to be cutting into a filet mignon on the leather furniture). If you ever meet Russell the owner, think about which celebrity chef he reminds you of, or I'll just tell you here: Gordon Ramsay. So after a day at the beach, we came here to check out the drinks cause we heard they had good cocktails. Happy hr is 5-7 - so it was perfect when we happen to stroll in. Located above cubancon and near the Korean taco truck right on the boardwalk. There is a comfortable outside rooftop bar as well as a sexy inside bar/ lounge. Service was on point- had several waiters check on us and our waitress was lovely. The cocktails were amazing! The type of place that made me want to try drink drinks . My favorite was the " punch up" with home infused blackberry gin, lavender syrup and lemon juice. Sweet with just enough alcohol to leave u happy by the end of the drink :) Happy hr cocktails were like 9ish vs 12 dollar when it's not happy hr. We tried the artesian grilled cheese as well as the lobster/goat cheese pizza and they both were very good! You don't necessarily have to dress come here . We were in beach clothes . Having late afternoon lunch here at Watermark. We ordered Cracker Crust Pizzas, Tulum Chicken Fingers and Grilled Cheese with Black Forest ham. The pizza is delicious, the lobster is well cooked and blended well with goat, jack and smoked mozzarella cheeses. The chicken finger was not a typical American chicken fingers. It's sort of an Asian fusion chicken fingers, not fried but steamed. Sliced in cubes with lime, cilantro marinated with heart of palm salad and cumin aioli on the side. The chicken is moist and juicy. The heart of palm salad blended well with the chicken specially when you dip it in aioli. The grilled cheese is well done, not burnt and the ham is delicious. Moderately priced menu and drinks offset the beautiful view of the beach from their gigantic windows, also their wide outdoor patio and the Stone Pony rock music, sound you can hear from their summer stage concert behind Watermark. Staff and servers are nice and respectful. Great ambiance, with leather couches and metal bar stools all over the place. Clean upgraded separated Men and Women's bathroom. Just had our wedding reception here after having our official ceremony in Vegas two weeks before. We wanted something that did not feel super stuffy and formal since we were not having a ceremony and were technically already married but still wanted it to feel upscale and beautiful. Russell and his staff exceeded all expectations. They are kind, attentive, and professional. Every single person working made sure to check on me (the bride) and made sure our needs (and guests) were well taken care of! The food and cocktails were exceptional and all of our guests reviewed it as one of their all time favorite weddings. This place is on the Asbury Park boardwalk! Commanding view. The view is extraordinary from both the rooftop, as well as from inside. Watermark was bustling but we had no trouble getting an ale and mixed drink (we happened to get drinks from the inside bar); the bartender, as well as the people assisting in the indoor bar were friendly, mellow (read unrushed), and explained everything about their beers and mixed drinks. I asked for a taste of one of their ales, (in most places, given the upturn in beer variety, I was given an ounce to taste...¡no problema! The beer/ale selection was very good, but I had wished there were more draft beers to choose from, but I am picky and have widely varied tastes. Anyway, no one will be disappointed with the selection, and what was available on that evening was not easy to choose from. (We did not order drinks from the rooftop bar as we already had drinks in hand.) We took them out to the rooftop area and had a SUPER view of the ocean...whitecaps and boats coming into Belmar or Point Pleasant. Wind from the south...(Asbury has quite an asset being on the coast!) After a bit we went inside for some food; our waiter (George) let us know exactly where we could sit ---which was anywhere! Very comfortable seating inside...couches and many throw pillows, with nice small tables where the food was placed. The inside was perfectly air conditioned and the view was as good as on the rooftop. The places to sit were super comfortable; we did not sit at the window, yet still had an unrestricted ocean view. My daughter ordered a pizza looking dish, thin crust, with toppings that were on the healthy side; not your usual pizza parlor fare. Excellent. We shared that. I ordered a cheese dish (labeled for two), and shared that as well; when the food server delivered it I could not tell which cheese was which. (I had to ask the waiter.) Hey, not really a problem, but I hope next time the person bringing out the plate will tell me the names of the cheeses. The next I WILL get this cheese tasting platter again! They didn't have a big restaurant menu with two or three courses, but what they did offer, all looked good. If you happen to have a large appetite, you could order more than one item; the prices were reasonable. I felt the prices for the drinks and food were Very reasonable for the amount of attention and courtesy we received, and the variety and quality of food. Oh, Waterfront, PLEASE be open (at least for a two of months) between Labor Day and Memorial Day! Some places like the Waterfront, could be snobby...not at all here! Stone Pony concert sounded awesome from up there too!! Closing time..website states 11pm. One more round of expensive and delicious martinis and then not 5 minutes later lights go on inside the bar and told it's time to go. No 10 minute warning from the Bouncers. Spent a pleasant August evening on the rooftop patio. The drink selection was quite good and not overly expensive. The waiters were very friendly, although service was fairly slow on a night when the bar wasn't really that crowded. The patio seating appears to be welcoming but turns out to be not particularly comfortable. More frequent table wiping (like between parties) would also be advised. The only real issue we had was that the description of the appetizers is NOT particularly accurate in that they were actually quite a bit larger than we had expected. Not normally a problem, right? Except when you wind up ordering far too much food, which was the case for us. As far as the food itself, the grilled cheese was VERY good, but the ahi tuna and lobster cracker pizza were pretty disappointing. That said, I would not hesitate to go back and bring friends. Overall we had a very nice time while there. However, there are definitely some improvements that could be made. One final thought - Asbury Park has definitely become worth visiting, somewhat to our surprise! read more

This place is all about location and vibe and atmosphere. And that's a good thing. It's located on the second level, right on the asbury park boardwalk. Perfect location basically equidistant from the Convention Hall and from hip Cookman Ave. The vibe is "lounge" and that's beautiful. The inside had nice seating areas and couches and a fireplace and floor to ceiling glass offering a gorgeous view of the ocean. There's an awesome outdoor area (closed tonight because it's winter) but in the summer has a separate bar and equally awesome seating areas and and open air view of the Atlantic. Now, for whatever reason, we've had less than average experiences with their cocktails, somehow the mix is off, but the beer, wine, vibe, and view make up for it. It's nice to get a bang for your buck. The food was good but took 20+ minutes to arrive. Unfortunatey when my friend tried to order the same drink as me an hour later it was not at all the same taste and also had different garnishes, so perhaps some bartenders are better than others. When I couldnt find my card after closing my tab, the bartender was extemely nice and checked to see if they had it before assuring my my tab was already closed. Good to see such caring customer service - just be aware of where your belongings are! Ambiance was great. Not too crowded and with an outdoor patio with a view of the ocean. Music was good too! ** update: the waiter holds onto your card, even when you close your tab with the bartender. Was not used to that! I have experienced Watermark for both dining out with friends and hosting corporate events, and it is hands down my favorite Asbury Park boardwalk spot. I sit on the Board for a non-profit association in the healthcare sector, and we've hosted our summer happy hour kickoffs here for the past three years. The owner, Russell, is SUPER down to earth and accommodating. He always lets us rent out the inside space exclusively for our events during happy hour time, and our guests love the venue. Awesome staff to boot. I also love coming here as a regular 'customer' because the atmosphere is second to none. Just look around when you arrive and you'll see that the space works for anything from a casual drink with friends to happy hour with coworkers to a romantic date boasting beautiful ocean views (whether you're inside or outside, the ocean is always visible). Although it's on the boardwalk you can come here year-round and enjoy drinking, dining and dancing inside during the winter. The fireplaces inside make for a cozy environment, and who doesn't love having a view of the ocean waves in the offseason? Drink specials are awesome and prices are reasonable, especially if you dine during happy hour. The food in my opinion is average but Watermark still gets 5 stars for its atmosphere, its loving staff and its breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean. read more

I'd love to give this spot five stars, the view is perfect, you can hear the live concerts from the Stone Pony and the drinks are delicious. However, this evening, after paying for our $12 drinks we were abruptly and rudely told "the bar is closed you need to leave" around 10:45. We never even considered it might be last call because of the way security was yelling at paying customers to get out. My friend didn't even finish his drink! Understandable that it might be last call but security yelling at people to put their drinks down and get out is unacceptable. You announce last call and allow customers to finish their provisions you do not yell at them to leave. I'd expect better from a high end establishment. read more

Watermark is totally the craziest, sexiest, coolest spot on the #AsburyPark boardwalk. I was first introduced to this place via Yelp and a Yelp Event we had there last summer so when I revisited AP for a beach day, I of course dragged my party of 6 to Watermark. The same beautiful interior, this time I stuck to outside. I snagged a seat, which really was the last one available at about 4:30 on a Friday. This is the spot for the hh in AP. I ordered a happy hour drink and enjoyed it, my friends ordered the Thin Man with a jalapeno tequila and they absolutely loved them and kept those up for the few hours we were there. We ordered up the pretzel and the happy hour grilled cheese. The food was solid and definitely a perfect bit to sop up some of the fancy cocktails I was swilling. Service was solid for how busy this place was; be patient. If you search for a chic ambiance in Asbury Park, look no further. Whether it's beautiful out and you enjoy the elevated outdoor deck seating or if you need a bit of respite indoors, this place will not disappoint. Oh, they do charge a cover in the evening when the Stone Pony has a concert because this place is literally across the street. The lovely owner/man about town informed me that all the $$ they collect will be donated to help further music education for the kiddies in Asbury Park. #heartwarming. Where do I begin...this lounge really set the bar for Asbury Park years ago. It continues to be one of the most popular places even through the winter in the area. Between the views, the outdoor roof top deck and the drinks, I make time to come here as often as I can! The Drinks: The options for unique drinks are endless. When you get to the bar you will find multiple books listing wines, beers, cocktails, and food. The Watermark Lemonade is my favorite, but there are other drinks that I've tried and also enjoyed. Prices range from $7 to $12 for drinks depending on what you get. On the weeknights, they have happy hour with cheap beer options and reduced cocktail prices on certain drinks. I suggest coming here in the summer during happy hour because you also can comfortably stay on the rooftop deck as the sunsets. The Space: Inside is a very warm feel with different wood textures, a fireplace, leather couches, and views of the ocean. Outside there is a full bar on the deck with seating for about 30 people throughout with plenty of standing room too. You can also watch the concerts outside at the Stone Pony for free from here. Forth of July is another great time to be here when you can watch the fireworks over the beach. Best place to be by far! They do have a DJ some nights who changes up the music as the night goes on. The Crowd: It's very mixed in age, but everyone mingles just fine. Some will dance even though there isn't a dance floor, while others sit back next to the fireplace. Some people are very dressed up while others are more casual. Everyone is excepted here regardless. Customer Service: George is a great manager and Russell is a wonderful owner. Both take pride in Watermark and do everything they can to make your time there special. The bartenders will make your drinks quickly even while measuring every ingredient out for consistency. I've never had an issue with any of the staff here and appreciate seeing the same people for so many years. Food: They offer pretzel bites, spinach dip, and other light appetizers. The menu changes from time to time but for the most part you will see the same options. The prices range from $5 and up. Some could make a meal out of it too. Overall, this is truly a unique lounge for Asbury that I will always go back to even through the winter. If you can make time, come here in the summer during a concert at the Pony or during 4th of July. If not, make time before the sunsets. Just get to the rooftop deck early if you want a seat. Waitstaff does also serve you outside on the deck so you don't have to keep getting up. I highly recommend the Watermark Lemonade if you like citrus, vodka, and mint! Food and drinks with a view! Great roof top bar. We went up for just drinks but sampled the food and it was great. Started with the Spicy Ahi Tuna that is loaded with seaweed salad on top! Almost a meal so glad we were sharing. We then had the Seared scallops and these were monsters! Again, could have been a meal. DISLIKES: We couldn't get a server to look at us or approach us, neither indoors nor out and it wasn't busy at all that day. Wish I could review their mouth-watering menu items, but it took so long for a server to approach us, we left after we finished our drinks...and when the band stopped playing. I don't think they were being rude; probably giving us space to enjoy the music since we already had our drinks from the bar. The Watermark is a great lounge. I'm not sure what the night life is like here as we were here from 5:30pm-8:30pm on a Saturday, but we all really enjoyed the atmosphere. You're offered amazing views of the boardwalk and Atlantic Ocean from their huge windows as you sit on couches around large cocktail tables. They also have quiet areas near the fireplace to relax. The great thing about Watermark is that you can actually sit around with friends and have a conversation without having to scream over loud music. They're aiming to be like a NYC lounge, but instead of staring at a wall you have an amazing ocean view. read more

My review is based on a private event that I attended here. The front entrance is on the street, not the boardwalk, we walked around twice before we figured it out. Walk up a flight of stairs into a beautiful space overlooking the boardwalk. Loved the inside/outside lounge areas. The bartenders were all friendly and the drinks were excellent. My experience here was only at the club after hours not the restaurant. So for the experience I've had on two separate occasions I feel comfortable saying I'm down for a third visit! The line can go on for almost a block down the street to get into this place at night, I'm serious. Once capacity is reached they do not let anyone in until they count how many people leave and grant that exact number of people access to go inside. (must have valid ID) I waited 56 minutes once and after I made it through the security bouncers and through the doors I was encountered by a perfectly packed crowd of lovely sweaty people and hustling bar staff. Drinks were strong, music was loud and to my liking on the inside bar. There are oversized white leather couches and ottomans to sit and mingle around the dance floor. The interior is modern and attractive, ladies restroom was spacious and well kept. There is an outside lounge/bar but I have never managed to get outside to explore or relax, only to gasp for fresh air from the dance floor. I am not complaining, since I inquired of locals about where to "go out" and hit up a club and this place did not disappoint. So whether you fancy an outside lounge to mingle in the beach breeze with cocktails and beer or you're in the mood to be a part of a vivacious dance crowd inside, this place is worth waiting in line for.
