This place was very cozy and I felt great being around people like me. It is black owned and the food was very good. I give it a 8.5 out of 10. I ordered the grits and catfish with the seafood gravy, and I also had a glass of mimosa. My bill was only about $33 and I gave a tip. What I do like about this place is the ambience. I really loved how the decor gives very sophisticated. I go on a lot of solo dates and do yelp reviews and this one is a place that I would definitely be coming back. I don't have any dislikes on this first visit. Hope my second time around would give them the five stars. read more

Steak could have been a bit more tender and flavorful but not a big a deal breaker. If you are unsure of your tastes for wine go with the Premium Pick 3 Flight. Since it was a Sunday and they had a vocal artist the cover charge was discounted to $5 and added to your bill. Brought a couple of bottles of Social Distance Wine to support the business but the price is (whew). I wonder is it due to the way the business processes their wine. I came here for a birthday celebration for a friend on a Saturday evening. She held her party in the private room. But there appeared to be ample seating inside and on the patio. They had just started the live music for the night. Playing lively old school hits for the grown & sexy, lol. Service- I think our server, Jasmine, was overwhelmed by the large group. She started out attentive with a smile, and then the smile faded by the end. It may have been too much. I expected service to be slow with a big party, but it was disjointed. Half of the guests had finished their meals by the time the other half had just gotten theirs to take a first bite. She didn't have any help, and it was a lot of food and drinks, so I get it. This likely was out of Jasmines hands. We just had to ask multiple times for a lot of things. Drinks - I had a glass of the "Sparking Almond" for $13. I liked it. But I wish I had just done the wine tasting so I could try a bit of everything. I bought a glass of "Fight like a Girl" for $12, there pink Moscato for the birthday girl. She liked it. So I decided to buy her a bottle of "Fight like a Girl" as a bday gift, for my friend as well for $40. And to support this Black Owned business. It's cool because some of the proceeds go towards breast cancer. Great cause to drink! Food - I ordered the mushroom risotto appitizer. I liked that they had an appetizer portion of this as well as an entree to give a chance to sample it instead of making it a whole meal. I also ordered the cheese flat bread. Both were ok. I wanted it to be delicious. The risotta, while cooked properly, did not have the depth of richness needed to pull off the creamy unami expectation of a risotta. But risotto is hard to pull off in general, so I understand. The cheese flat bread looked different than previous reviews on here. The bread itself almost seemed like a cauliflower or gluten-free like crust. Vibes - The live band began to play Louisiana style music and entered the private room, and we really had a good time. I love supporting black owned businesses. Our server said the owners would come say hello, but they didn't arrive. The live music is nice to enjoy while eating, and I am guessing the $5.00 band fee we were charged, covers the band cost, which makes sense. Overall, the place has good vibes! So I would actually give this another chance if in the area. I hope service is great in their regular dining section as opposed to their private party room. Okay....so it's 5:40pm and my husband is taking me out to dinner for my birthday. I tell him I would like to try a new place for us...how about Waters Edge Winery & Bistro. We enter and notice the place is almost empty. I counted at least 11 open tables. We were asked if we had a reservation. Uh oh, um no, there's no signage saying a reservation is required online or on the establishment. The host tells us "well you'll need a reservation because we have live music." We look and signal to the room filled with empty tables. He said, these two tables have a 7pm reservation but you should be fine. We basically we would have to rush my birthday time to get out by 7....no thanks. The ambiance is lackluster, too. Looks more like a deli set-up. Overall really disappointing...but oh well, there are plenty of other places to go. read more

Finally made it to Waters Edge for brunch! Good amount of free parking. Its located in Richmond, TX. Nice ambiance with good music playing. It is a BOB. Everything was awesome EXCEPT my food. But I tasted everyone else's food and it was sooo good. Customer service was pretty okay. We were checked on quite a bit. I had the shrimp and grits. It was very plain-jane and not really any flavor but I didn't have enough energy to send it back. However, the fish and grits were very good. That fish was cooked perfectly. The soul food plate was very very good...oxtails, greens, rice, yams. Big Portions! They also had the option of fried chicken that looked amazing. Overall, good experience. Went for Sunday brunch with my family. The brunch menu should be changed. I order the shrimp and grits but it didn't have any shrimp or sausage. You can see in the picture it's more grits with a gravy. The flavor was ok but for $18 dollars I expected more. If you go for brunch I would say order from the A La carte menu. I opted for a 3 wine tasting with wines I selected. I liked the pour and the selections of wines to choose from. My waitress started attentive but as the time continued she seemed to disappear. Once we were sat, there was confusion about who our server was, so it took 10-15 minutes before we had to flag someone down to take our order as no one had checked on us. Our server, Maria, was very sweet but unfortunately, uninformed about the menu. When asked about one of the salads, what she described was very different than what we received. It was also disappointing that some of the wine options were unavailable as it was only 6:30 on Friday. The service was extremely slow throughout our meal and we had to ask multiple times for things like water and salad dressing. I was looking to grab a seat at the bar but there was no seating at the bar. Just a bar, looking lovely. This building is a beautiful building and has so much potential. Upon arrival a sign greeted me advising me to seat myself. So I grabbed the first table as it was just me. Came here for date night. Reservations mean nothing here but i guess that's ok bc there were tables available. They had a DJ and the music was very very loud. We were screaming at each other everytime we talked. This place isn't as fancy as Messina. Food was very good though. Got the salmon and mushroom risotto but received spinach risotto instead. Couldn't tell the waitress bc they were so busy and didn't come around. We saw her twice. When we ordered and when we paid. We also asked for small plates bc we were sharing an app and main dish. This place was a total vibe!! The music reaches you as you walk into the establishment. My forever date and I were warmly greeted and seated rather quickly. Now, I must say that when it comes to giving the feedback on the wines, I'm rather selective and particular because I moved here from the Napa/Sonoma wine area. I'm wine bougie, I'll admit!! That said, if you're not particular with wines this could very well be a great place to enjoy. I didn't care for many of the wines that I tasted and I didn't like the renaming of the wines as it made it challenging to truly know what I was drinking (Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Malbec, etc). Some of them were labeled as such in the description but many were not. The food, on the other hand, was great! I enjoyed the tender and juicy Jamaican jerk tenders. They were even delicious the next day when reheated in the microwave. Yum!! Overall, I would definitely return but maybe only have a sparkling wine!! There's a serious disconnect between outside and inside wait staff serving and duties. Pricing is reasonable but the food is overly salted, you don't get real utensils, and the food selection is very confusing for a bistro. Seems more like a thrown together American fusion. The inside decor is alright with open space. Also, they don't have ice tea. Never seen a place not have that here. The wine selection doesn't have any brand names or details. As much as I truly truly wanted to like this place . I hated it. The vibe of this place really doesn't feel like a winery. It feels like a deli . Someplace like a Panera bread or a Mod pizza. But anyway the huge issue is the food. I understand that this is a winery but wow that's food menu needs to be updated to include more food/better options. In addition (whether or not they stipulate this on the website is irrelevant) however just know, if you are going to this place and they just happen to have someone singing or playing an instrument , they will charge you and everyone at your table and on your bill $5 for an entertainment fee. I really did not want to leave this review publicly out of respect for the owners. I sent a private message on the website asking to speak to someone about my experience, but no one ever responded. So here we are. I reserved a table for a party of 9 for my mother's birthday party on 9/30. She lives in the area and had always wanted to try Waters Edge. So we decided that this would be the night. GREETING Our reservations were for 6:45 and about 7 of the 9 people in the party were there on time. However, we all sat there for about 20 min without being formally greeted. So I took it upon myself to tell one of the waitresses that we hadn't been greeted yet. Finally, she sends a young man over to greet us. There were three people on the floor, one person behind the bar, and one hostess. We were invisible to all of them. SERVER The young man comes to the table and asks us point blank. "Are you ready to order?" He didn't tell us his name, didn't ask if this was our first time dining here, didn't welcome us, offer any recommendations, didn't tell us what pairings he would suggest ...nothing. So we had to ask him what he recommended. We had to ask him to bring carafes of water to the table while we waited because he didn't offer that either. So we order our food and first bottle of wine (Social Distance Chardonnay) and he comes back with 9 wine glasses and sits them on the table. Then he comes back to the table with the bottle UNCORKED. Places it down and leaves. This is the first time I've ever ordered a bottle of wine that wasn't opened tableside by the server. To make matters worse, not only did he not ask the person who ordered it to try it to see if they liked it, but he didn't pour anyone's glass for them. We had to pass the bottle around and pour our own first glass. When he comes back I asked him: "Do you have an ice bucket so we can keep the wine cold?" He said he didn't know and he had to go ask. He comes back with an ice bucket with no stand. By this time, the food has arrived for the party, so there's no room on the table for the ice bucket. I asked him if he had a stand to place the ice bucket on. He said "we don't have any". So we had to put our wine on the floor. We also ordered a bottle of The Diplomat and he brought it to that table again uncorked already and sat on the table again and left. So I pull the young man aside and asked him if he had any formal training on how to serve wine. He said "no". I gave him some pointers on what he was doing wrong and what to watch out for. Constructive criticism because I've been in his shoes. After that, I must have discouraged the young man because he rarely came back to the table after that. He never tried to redeem himself or anything. It almost felt as if he really didn't care because he knew he was gonna get 18% off the table regardless. The crazy part about all of this is that there were several people at the table who were interested in purchasing multiple bottles of the wine when they found out that Waters Edge has their own original blends that are reasonably priced! But he NEVER tried to upsell anything so nobody bothered buying any for themselves. If he's not excited about the product, then why should we be? It was so unfortunate. Also, he never asked if we wanted more water in our carafes. Once they were empty, they stayed that way. As the finished plates piled up on the table, we had to flag him down to come clean them off so we could cut the birthday cake. Not everyone wanted birthday cake but were interested in the dessert menu. Did bring up the dessert menu to the table? Nope. FOOD & WINE We ordered the Jerk Chicken Flatbread, The Waterview Flatbread, Salmon & Spinach Risotto, Fried Jerk Tenders, Fries and Sweet Potato Fries for the small bites. All the food was really tasty and came out in a timely manner. No complaints at all. As stated above, we only ordered two bottles of wine. (The Diplomat and Social Distance) Mostly everyone at the table enjoyed the taste of each selection, but were just turned off by the lack of suggestions and having to pour their own initial glass. CONCLUSION I asked to speak to a manager but there wasn't one on duty. However one of the waitresses said that she was the one running things for the evening. So I voiced my concern to her. She apologized and did her best to try and rectify the situation by offering some VIP passes. I gave them to my mother since she lives close by. I honestly don't know if I'll ever come back to Waters Edge. The staff needs to be trained properly because the service was a wreck. This place is way too nice for the waitstaff to be this lackluster. I'd hate for the owners to suffer because of it. The food was good, the wine was good, the entertainment was good, the atmosphere was serviceable, but the service was awful. If I'm paying nearly $400 (with automatic gratuity) for a nice evening, I expected a much better product than what we received at Waters Edge. read more

So I've been wanting to try this place for awhile now. So I finally decided to book reservations this year for my fiancés birthday which is on Valentines Day "A double special day" I booked my reservations weeks in advance even called a few times to make sure everything was okay for my party size which was a 9 top. But he came and took our orders we ordered a few bottles of which were never fully broken down about the flavors or any best suggestions or anything but this is supposedly "A Winery". So now to the food the menu it was a special menu for Valentine's Day which was never advertised on their website. We had kids with us so I asked could the chef open up the movie for the kids and make their flatbread they nicely agreed. But now to the adults ordering our food the Valentine's Menu had a few choices that seem very appealing so me and my fiancé ordered a starter first which was the crab cakes it did take a while for them come but they were okay. So our entrees were ordered and t the same time I ordered Salmon & Spinach Risotto and she ordered Lobster & Spinach. Our party ordered their meals too which was two steak plates and two other salmon meals and also another lobster plate. So as we wait and wait oh yeah and wait our waiter was not communicating nothing about our meals finally only two plates come out. So as we continue to wait again no communication nothing is being told to us about the rest of the food. So after at least another 30mins of drinking "The Okay Wine" nothing for a buzz either I decided to just cancel the orders for the remaining meals we were missing which were at least 5 entrees. I was so upset holding in my frustration because I really trying to give this black owned business a chance but here I am failed by my people. The owner never came to the table and said a word just let the waiter take it off the tab. Now as an established business owner how would you let your customers just leave upset like that like you no integrity. Now the owner replied back to my fiancé giving some type of explanation or just down right excuses about the service and what not. (Slow Motion & Green with Envy); OMG, they were both delicious, and I'm not a wine drinker. We ended up ordering two of each....and drank them up to the last drop. I must say I love the names of the drinks too...it's the little things like that kid of attention to detail that impresses me. Ate the jerk chicken and it too was great! Nice, crispy, and seasoned to perfection. The ambiance and set up is very nice. I was think the the barrel high-top tables gives the establishment a nice touch. There is a private dining area too. To our surprise a live band set up and began to play. Adding to our already great experience. My only advice, the volume on the band could use to go down some decibels it was a little too loud to hold a convo at your table. The owner came over and spoke to us, and shared some of the history behind the business. Overall, I give it a 10/10. And speaking of the wine, they make their own wine, but apparently want to keep customers from wanting to buy it as there is no description of just what the wine is supposed to be (cabernet, pinot, pinot, etc.). Once we selected a few to try, they were just awful! They tasted like they had been aged in tar barrels! In addition, the food menu choices were just pathetic. If you have the word "Bistro" in your name, the most appetizing offering on the menu shouldn't be a Cobb salad. BTW, the Cobb salad was a joke with all ingredients piled onto their own piece of the plate rather than being combined; pretty obvious that's what the "chef" did when they took the ingredients out of their individual baggies. We will never go back! Instead, we drove down the street to Messina Hoff where we got great food and great wine! read more

I went in a Friday night and it was definitely a vibe. I enjoyed the live band, food and wine. I highly recommend it. The service was great and the ambiance was amazing. The wine selection was delicious. The Crimson wine was my favorite wine of the night. I had the Premium selection that allowed me to choose 3 different wines. This is a great place to come to hang out with friends or a date night. There was a even a large dinner party. I'll be coming back to enjoy this establishment. read more

From the Dj to the wine by the glass specials and overall ambiance truly a wonderful place to host a ladies happy hour or any type of event like this!!! We happened to go on a Thursday for ladies night and flatbread was delish I got there around 8:30 so kitchen was closing but wine I had that had sour apple notes to it was also very good.
