15 degree night in leavenworth, me and my family headed into our 6:30 reservation at the watershed cafe in hopes of a delicious meal. my mom and dad both ordered the french onion to start and said it was good but nothing ridiculous. my pork was very good. it could have been a little more moist but pork tenderloin is always hard to cook perfectly so given that...i would say it was very good. all our dishes were presented very nicely and aesthetically looked very pleasing. overall it was a great experience besides walking to and from the car...i was literally shaving years off my life from being so cold. read more

Great dinner! We unfortunately didn't have reservations on Friday and they were all booked up for the night, however they got us on the reservation list for Saturday at 5:00pm. The benefits of a 5pm reservation... service was superb and we had happy hour cocktails for an hour! We started out dinner with the steamer clams (delicious) my husband had the meatloaf and I had the grape leaf wrapped pork tenderloin (amazing)!! I had a wonderful experience here; Watershed delivered on all fronts! I reserved two spots at the Chef's table for our last night in Leavenworth. After a fun afternoon experiencing the village and the Oktoberfest festivities, it was really nice to sit down and end the day with a delicious meal. Watching the kitchen and all the staff in action was a neat experience. The chef preparing salads, desserts, and appetisers was positioned right in front of us. She was very friendly and chatted with us throughout our meal. Our meal starter and finish (caprese salad and crème brûlée) were fabulous! To my right were the kitchen staff and head chef busy preparing all the evening's entrées. Watershed's meatloaf was the popular meal of the evening. We decided on sharing the halibut. Oh was it good! Tender and flaky fish atop polenta cakes and garnished with fresh veggies. Despite the busy evening, the head chef came over to us during our meal and ask how everything was going. He showed genuine interest was pleased our experience had been a good one. He said goodbye and thanked us for coming in and dining. This is a must go if you are heading into town for a couples getaway. Call ahead as they do book up fast (only open for dinner). Since we didn't have reservations for the main dinning hall we sat at their bar area which is right in front of the appetizer prep area. Our server and the prep cook in front of us were great for explaining the dishes and making recommendations. We chose the Pork Belly appetizer which was my wife's personal favorite. It came with chantrelle mushrooms and this awesome sauce combination of honey mustard and herb butter. It was topped with sunflower sprouts that were fresh and added a great flavor. It's not a huge piece of pork belly but don't worry their entree sizes are generous. My wife went with the Roasted Chicken with Anjou bread pudding, and Apple & Cranberry chutney. It was like having a Chicken version of Thanksgiving dinner on your plate. The chicken was bone in thigh with a crispy skin. The bread pudding to me was amazing! It had a nice sweetness to it from the pears. The chutney was also very good. Sweet apples combined with the tart cranberries made for a delicious bite. I ordered the Bacon wrapped pork tenderloin, potato croquette, and organic squash with a sherry grain mustard sauce. It was a healthy sized tenderloin that more than filled me up. The bacon was a little too crispy for my taste but wasn't burned either. The potato croquette was like a breaded and fried mashed potato. It has great flavor and was amazing with the mustard sauce. The squash was good as well. They added a hint of nutmeg and brown sugar to it to give it that autumn feel. The mustard sauce was delicious to dip with everything on my plate. Presentation of the meals was fantastic. As I said we sat in front of where they would prep the appetizers and each of them had an amazing artistic flair and each looked delicious. It was hard to decide on what we wanted as we watched everything go by. The cleanliness of the place was good. The bathroom could use an upgrade for sure but the main eating area and the bar were relatively clean. The bar stools didn't have backs so they weren't the most comfortable. Another reason to make sure that you make a reservation to eat in the main dinning hall. One last tip is that the front door isn't an entrance, you must go around to the side to enter. It isn't very noticeable unless you come from the back corner street. If you approach from the main shopping area just keep.walking past the windows and look right. Bon Appetit! read more

We ate here during our holiday vacation in Leavenworth. The ambiance inside is nice and cozy and a great way to escape the freezing temperatures outside. They have a happy hour wine list with some pretty good wines. We perhaps had a little too much vino because my mom left her phone on the booth seat when we left the restaurant. Luckily the owners of the restaurant responded to our emails asking about it, and once they found the phone they mailed it back to us to our home in California, which was nice. read more

It's really a great little place with a few challenges. We made a reservation WEEKS in advance on the recommendation of some friends. We arrived and were escorted to the serving area right next to the front door - see pics included. When we expressed our disappointment in the seating arrangements, a lovely hostess, Nicole, made sure that we were seated at an actual table- not a serving area/bar countertop next to the front door. When we were seated, we noticed that there were multiple two top tables that had not yet been occupied and we're at this point wondering why we were escorted to such an inferior location. We were told that it was a decision made by the owner to utilize the space with the reservation program. We can understand if it was the only situation available and we were last minute walk-in customers, but really unacceptable for those who, not only made reservations and also paid a $20 advance booking fee and were anticipating getting an actual table as most people would. The owner should try sitting in the bar/service area to experience it from the customer's point of view - may not be quite what they are hoping for. The food and service was good and we would go back, but kind of an awkward introduction to what could have been a much more positive experience. read more

I very much water this to be a great review but this restaurant fell short of everything... well, the view was good and location is nice so I've added a star for that. Food was bad and way too salty, service was super slow, unhappy waitress (other than the nice one with rainbow hair but we only saw her once) and lots of flies. Our family of 4 (2 adult, 2 kids) dined tonight with a bill of around $300 after drinks, wine, appetizers, full dinners. 2 of the dinners were so over salted we couldn't even eat them. The meatloaf is usually a comforting savory mix of meat and veggies but it was basically a show of leftover meats salted like they were covering up something that should have been 69'd 2 days ago. The pork wrapped in grape leaves was a joke! It was basically a hunk of dried salted pork sadly covered in grape leaves to try to make it look exotic-- terrible. We told our waitress and she could care less -- she said "yeah, it's the grape leaves" and left! Our bill didn't comp us a thing -- we left upset, hungry and irritated. Will never return. Should have stuck with the $10 brat which this town knows how to prepare exceedingly well and wait to eat at a real "pnw inspired food" when we are back in a big city. Save your money and avoid this place at all costs unless you want to throw money away and end up bloated the next day. This place might be ok for wine and apps. The apps are not great by the way- the cheese plate we got was 3 pieces of bread, a smear of fresh mozzarella topped with pesto and some little slices of prosciutto-- not a cheese plate but it was ok to eat especially compared to the rest of the terrible menu. After asking around town for the "best restaurant in town" we discovered the Watershed. The experience, atmosphere, service and food were excellent at this farm to table eatery and I can highly recommend. The first thing you'll see when you arrive at the Watershed, is probably the smiling face of the hostess standing outside. We didn't have a reservation but she kindly accomodated us. The restaurant itself is very open and the tables are nice. The Hama Hama clams with beluga lentils was really really good. It's spicy and the broth is terrific. I stuck with the seafood theme and had the rockfish with halibut bone broth. I didn't realize that it was served in a soup noodle presentation, but was very happy with that. All in all, the meal was terrific. The servers all around were great and friendly. Samie, Anna were more than happy to tell us about other entertainment in the area that evening and it made us feel quite welcome. If you're in Leavenworth, this is one restaurant that you just shouldn't miss. read more

The food was really good, I had the meatloaf (and I usually dislike meatloafs), had a nice texture and a great sweet glaze (especially the edges...yum!). The greens were a bit bland though. The place looks great and has fantastic reviews, but we were underwhelmed. It started with a window full of flies and gnats. The food was beautiful, but bland and overpriced. How can halibut, chicken, sweet potatoes and meatloaf all be $40++?? We are all about paying for a good meal, but were shocked at what we got for the price. My husband had the halibut. The peaches in the peach salsa were raw and the lemon butter sauce had no flavor. The fish looked like it had been coked hours ago. The $43 bacon wrapped chicken had zero bacon flavor and no seasoning. The wine list was sad for the price. Where were the bottles of WA wine? On a side note, we had good service. This is from last December, I was walking around Leavenworth around 845 pm to see what was open so my father and brother could eat after work. This was the only place! My dad is a regular at this Resturant and never had anything but amazing things to say about it. It is a high class, fine dining, exactly what Leavenworth was missing! The service was amazing, came to our table just the right amount of times. Conversed on what to get because I can be picky at times. For appetizers we got the goat cheese bruschetta and cheese plate, which we paired with an eagle creek white wine. And for dinner I got the salmon. All I can say is wow. Every flavor was amazing and detailed, the wontons were so flavorful as well as the bed of wild rice. My family and I will definitely be eating here before I leave to go back to school. read more

WALKED OUT! This review is based entirely on service--or overwhelming lack thereof--as we did not care to stay long enough to dine. It started with no web presence to reserve a table, no link to services such as Open Table, etc. I called in the middle of the day, and since these prima donnas do not offer lunch service, was greeted with the non-melodic voice of an automated answering machine. After leaving a reservation request message, I waited an hour for a call back that when something like, "You called"..."Yes I did"...crickets...."Did you receive my voicemail?"....crickets...."Oh, yeah"...."Then may I have the reservation I requested?".... "No, we can't do then...how about 5 pm?" (when they open the door ...."Sure". etc. Pulling teeth for asking to go to their business and spend money--yikes. Anyway, we arrive and the weather is somewhere between rain and a Slurpee, five minutes early, in the cold with other waiting diners. Staff inside, leaning against counters, laughing in the warmth of the restaurant. Doors open a few minutes later (why open early to accommodate cold, wet patrons?) Minutes later the several frozen parties cleared the receptionist, a not-so-charming young lady seemingly earning extra credit for her junior high internship, said hello. Well, we are off to a better start than the phone call. I advised our reservation time, party size and provided my last name. "There's nothing on our list....how about a first name?" I provided that. "Hmmmm, maybe a phone number?" Seriously?! Digits given. "Ah, there you are"--nothing so enthralling as identifying your customer as a number. Sweet. We were taken to a small table by the front window. Our server provided menus and gave us the spiel about how everything there was "Farm to Table" and freshly, locally-sourced. Funny, we didn't see any organic farms growing micro-greens in the snowy fields of central Washington in December--but, sure, of course you are. Would you care for some bread and butter--for $5? How about some meatloaf (yeah, I know, meatloaf) for $32? At this point, we decided to take our chances with the Holiday crowds and find other, more appropriate and professional service as we had experienced elsewhere in Leavenworth the previous days. As we departed, no inquiry, good bye, f-you or passing glance from the staff...only complete apathy. Clearly they will have people come in by the hordes regardless of their attitude, as they are on the right side of the supply/demand curve--for now. We tried this place for dinner given its positive reviews. Had a mixed experience. First our waitress was nice, but seemingly inexperienced and lacked energy around the menu. The menu was fine, but the food was okay. First, our salad (arugula with cherries and goat cheese) was lacking in the goat cheese and then had a really long entwined hair in it. When I pointed this out to the waitress she took it away. They finally asked if we wanted another salad, and, to their credit, did not charge us for the salad. We still wanted the vegetables/salad, but I have to admit I was leery. The oysters were good. The fish, cod, was very rubbery, as if it had not done well when being frozen or had not been defrosted appropriately. It was inedible. I mentioned the rubbery fish with little response from the waitress. The meatloaf was good. For the fact that they comp'd the salad (which they should have), I gave the extra star, but I wouldn't really go back. read more

Watershed is one of the very few classy restaurants in Leavenworth that doesn't do the pizza/burger/schnitzel schtick. It's elegant, with old brick walls, nice lighting, and decent food. It's menu is short and changes seasonally. The pork loin wrapped in grapes leaves was served with pickled kale-- an unexpected and delightful combo! The meatloaf was savory with mushroom goodness. Cocktails are just okay but served in beautiful mid century glassware. Keep in mind, all entrees are about $30 even the vegetarian risotto. read more

We arrived here on Christmas Day, and this was the only place in town open late enough for Christmas Dinner- till 10pm. They couldn't accommodate us at a table because we didn't have reservations, so we sat at the bar. The bar was comfortable with its wooden stools and table top, and watching the chef cook in front of you. But definitely not if you're driving 2.5 hours from Seattle to be 100% comfortable. Benefit to sitting at the bar was though was seeing all the appetizer, dinner and sleeper options right in front of you so that you could decide what you wanted to eat. The chef was also pretty friendly and could hear him give "personal reviews" of menu options. Downside- it seems like a fairly new restaurant with staff trying to learn the culture and work flow. We had the Kobe Slider appetizer which was amazing. Mainly because they use Kings Hawaiian Sweet Bread. My fiancé had the Pesto Crusted Cod, with black rice and mixed veggies. I had the Grape Leaf Wrapped Tenderloin with cream corn, veggies and mashed potatoes. Best way to describe both meals was that everything on the menu complimented each other. The chef has a good palate for putting together a menu. The menu is short, and limited to about 5 appetizers, 5 entrees, and 5 deserts. But this is a restaurant/cafe and was expected. While service was warm, one of the two dishes that we got was terrible. Skip the eggplant and basmati rice dish. The rice was watery, eggplant tough and undercooked, and the whole thing was generally a tasteless mess. I asked for bread to help soak up some of the liquid and was given a small size that I was charged for on top of the $32 entree. I was also told that the rice in that dish is just usually watery. Seems like a case of being able to provide mediocre, subpar food because of the lack of other fancier dining option in town. Skip it. read more

The brunch here is SO good! Look no further if you are looking for a place to eat in Leavenworth. I yelped a lot before visiting but because of traffic I got there later than expected. Most of the other places were closed by the time we arrived and we managed to stumble upon watershed a minute before 2pm and we were the last party they seated for brunch. We ordered the eggs benedict, the egg white scramble and 2 orders of the eggs biscuit and sausage gravy and everything was absolutely delicious and perfect. The eggs benedict and egg white scramble comes with smashed potatoes and those were really good too and I'm usually not a huge fan of potatoes in brunch dishes. Yum! I came here with my boyfriend for his Birthday breakfast before driving home to Portland, OR. Compared to other restaurants, this place had the best vegetarian options. We ordered the egg white scramble. It was so tasty, especially the potatoes. I wanted to order another plate of solely potatoes! The service was fast and the staff was extremely friendly and pleasant. What I really appreciated was our waitress Jami asked if we wanted coffee refills rather than just filling it up automatically (my coffee is the perfect concoction of cream and sugar and I like to finish my cup before having more). I thought I would like this place more. The food just didn't live up to my expectations. I had the soup to start which was a bone broth coconut curry. It was mainly broth with a few noodles. It was somewhat challenging to eat. I think rice would have been a better option. It also had a slight heat to it. But I think it was missing an acidic element. Lime perhaps? I just wish it had more sustenance (vegetables or fish) or it was a thicker base. I only finished about a 1/4 of it and I was over it. As for my entree I had the vegetable risotto. It was supposed to be red pepper; although I tasted none. It was stuffed in squash with a broccoli sauce. I just thought it was very bland. I had to add quite a bit of salt to get it down. And for $27?! No thank you. Others at the table had the cheese plate and the pork belly. The cheese plate was outstanding. It was camembert with pear butter, water crackers, and nuts. Not much was said about the pork belly, so take that for what it is. I had the mulled wine which was pretty tasty but I think I enjoyed smelling it more than drinking it. The only thing I would order again is the cheese plate. I would go back to try other things though. I love that it's farm to table, local, organic ingredients. The decor and ambience of the place is very nice also. It has a nice vibe. Service was good as well. My food was a 3. But because of the cheese plate, ambience, and good service, I'm giving them a generous 4 stars.
