Weeknees to the rescue again. I was able to replace my hard drive on my TIVO and set up in one night. Wonderful company.

Not quite as easy as implied! 1. Roamio case was very difficult to open. Installation instructions for opening didn't work . Had to locate a "tool" which could squeeze under the lid to release the retaining clips. 2. Actual dismounting of old hard drive and installation of new one was not too difficult. 3. Shouldn't have affected cable card connection, but it did, requiring several days and many telephone calls to "beg" Comcast to re-pair cable card with TiVo. (Not sure why Comcast provides a website for self-installation of cable card since it never works!) 4. Lost "pairing" with TiVo remote and, after many attempts to re-pair and after testing several other remotes, I finally found one which would pair. 5. Also lost connection with bluetooth audio transmitter from TiVo. Have ordred new transmitter and earbuds with new ones in hopes of reestablishing connection. read more

Buyers beware! I ordered a replacement 1Tb upgrade hard drive kit for my TiVo Edge For Antenna RD6F50 from weaKnees.com after confirming that it was the correct one. The kit arrived in a few days and contained the 1 TB hard drive, a tool to unscrew the two TiVo case screws, a case spreader tool to open the case plastic catches and a page with a printed link to their instruction video. I found it curious that while their web site states they ship a "1 TB New AV Line Hard Drive" in the kit, the one they sent me was dated 28 OCT 2015. However, I decided to proceed with the replacement upgrade following their video. I have built a number of computers from scratch and installed lots of hard drives, so I am quite familiar with the process. I used a grounded anti-static wrist strap throughout the installation. Once I had the weaKnees hard drive correctly installed and TiVo box reassembled, I followed the TiVo on screen set-up procedures which included documenting all the over the air channels currently being received by my roof top antenna. The next step would normally be the display of any of the channels selected on my TV. None showed. Note, I had not changed any of my AV equipment, wiring, etc. and only had replaced the TiVo hard drive. I contacted TiVo and their tech ran through a number of steps and concluded that the issue was due to a hard drive failure since the TiVo was otherwise correctly communicating. I contacted weaKnees via email per their website, since no one was reachable using their customer service phone number. Their response was that there was nothing wrong with their hard drive but "The issue in your situation is that your cable provider uses some data to program the cablecard that changes with a hard drive. Therefore, you need to contact them and have them reprogram the card once you have the new drive re-installed." Of course, that could not possibly be the correct explanation since as I specified in my contact with my order that I owned a TiVo Edge For Antenna RD6F50. I do not have any cable provider, it receives its content from the roof top antenna. I sent them back an email pointing out that it wasn't a cable unit and this was stated when I ordered it. They responded there was nothing wrong with their hard drive and I should recheck the installation. I did that and everything was done correctly but still the hard drive did not function properly. When I emailed them they responded by telling me again there was nothing wrong with the hard drive. I then removed the weaKnees replacement hard drive and put the original hard drive back in. Again, nothing else was changed. When I powered up the TiVo, it worked perfectly. I informed weaKnees customer service of this, and asked for the stream of emails to be forwarded up to their Customer Service Manager for escalation, they told me I could return the hard drive with me paying for the shipping cost AND that they would be charging me a 15% restocking fee ($15 minimum). They reiterated that there was nothing wrong with their hard drive and that "Per our return policy, which clearly states that return shipping costs and a 15% restocking fee apply, we adhere to these terms consistently for all returns. You acknowledged and agreed to this policy before you placed your order." I looked at my order and receipt for my order and did not see anything about their return policy or the restocking fee. I went back to their website and that information does not appear anywhere on the page where you select the kit you want, nor when you order the kit. I did find that information by first going to a different part of their website for a section of Q&As and in that section you then had to click on a link to get the details of their return policy. It is unfortunate that their continued response was to state there was nothing wrong with their hard drive, even after first claiming it was caused by a cable provider using a program to make changes to the hard drive and after my removing their hard drive and reinstalling the original hard drive and the TiVo worked perfectly. I find it unreasonable that they charge me to ship the defective drive back to them and are charging a 15% restocking fee ($15 minimum) under these circumstances. They never even remotely admit the hard drive could be defective. Perhaps the drive they shipped which was dated 2015 was refurbished by them and still sold as new? How in the world is this consistent with their statement on their website that "Our goal is 100% customer satisfaction." read more

My TIVO remote stopped working on Friday night. First thing in the morning I called TIVO, who informed me that they no longer provided replacement remotes for my older model TIVO (the Premiere model), but would sell me a new one for $54. plus tax and shipping fees. I checked Ebay, and found WeaKnees company in Culver City, CA. I called them directly and purchased my new replacement remote for $39. plus tax and free shipping. I had to post a review laughing at the other reviews. When people are rude on the phone bad attitude etc that tells me they are 100% legit because the uber geeks I know that can fix stuff like this, well they all act this way pretty much. I just shipped them my Bolt that blew out it's graphics card, after TiVo corporate basically said there is nothing they can do except ship me a ridiculous TiVo Edge (made by Arris, blech!) with less functionality. I'm getting my 3rd edge next week since the 1st two units keep losing authorization and/or sound every day or so. If that one fails to gonna get a refund and pray these folks fix my Bolt. That unit was rock solid on recording 4 channels OTA! ***will update review in a few weeks when I have more data, but for now, rude sales = exceptional repairs in my book until I see otherwise. read more

Well they do answer fast, but the answers are strange. The refurbished unit I bought had no signal, support told me to try the supplied power supply. I did exactly what they told me to do and it didn't help. They said send it back for a working unit, but then they said its working fine. OK that's great but they are accusing me of "claiming" it didn't work and not wanting to pay to send it back to me. What would a false "claim" gain me? Why not send it back to me if its working fine- which is what they were supposed to do, or refund my money if they don't want to send it back to me? Very strange. read more

My TiVo Roamio (2014) suddenly stopped working. The culprit was the hard drive. I was going to order a newer TiVo Edge, but supply chain issues were causing indefinite delays. WeaKnees to the rescue. My Tivo Series 4 got stuck w/ an S03 error when refreshing program information. After several frustrating calls to Tivo support, I researched WeaKnees and just bought a 1TB upgrade drive for ~$150. They said it would fix my problem. I had doubts but they have a good return policy in case that didn't work. Nothing to lose. It came pretty quickly (even w/ free shipping) - few days etc. I was able to install the new HDD in about 30minutes w/o much hassle or even reading the directions much. Tivo Guided setup passed OK. Only unexpected thing I had to do was get Comcast/Xfinity to refresh my cable channels after my Tivo box was finished setting up. This was probably because I have a CableCard. Now I'm good to go and have 3X the programming capacity I had before. WeaKnees did a great job! Their product was reasonably priced, came quickly, easy to install and just works. Far easier than working w/ Tivo support. I'm delighted w/ this product thus far! read more

Poor Customer Service with a strict return policy. I recently bought a hard drive from them that I was hoping would fix my TiVo. It did not. they then suggested that I buy a power supply which I did. My TiVo still did not work. They agreed to return the power supply, but not the hard drive because it's been longer than 30 days. They are also going to charge me 15% restocking fee. I don't understand why they won't take the hard drive back too.. I still have the box and the packaging. They could charge me 15% on it too. read more

I'm the owner of a 2010 Series 3 XL HD TiVo (TCD658000). First the fan quit, then the hard drive (I was stuck on the Powering Up screen). I ordered a replacement fan and hard drive from WeaKnees. They were delivered promptly and carefully. What really made the difference was their including the necessary specialty screwdrivers with each package and, in the case of the hard drive, very precise, well-written, and easy-to-follow instructions. Changing the hard drive myself was a breeze. I goofed on one order by sending the wrong email address, and, when I realized my mistake, wrote their info email address and they immediately corrected the order and sent me the invoice. I wish every company were so customer-centered and prompt. I hope I don't need new TiVo parts for a while, but if I do, I won't hesitate to ask for their help again. read more

My 9 year old Tivo HD had a power loss, and when the power came back the green Power LED was flashing green (with little other signs of life). I did my research, and found out there was not a lot of choices. I sent the Tivo off on Monday, about 3 hours after I got an email from FedEx that it had been delivered, I got an email from WeaKnees that it was suffering from the standard Motherboard Issue. They also said the Fan had died (wow, only 9 years) and offered to replace the hard drive. My issue was that i didn't get time to respond to the email before they closed, so I talked to them the following morning, and it was repaired, and hard drive upgraded, and setup for Shipping, and it went out the following day. UPS Delivered it and when i plugged it in, it worked. Ok, it's not cheap, so if you have monthly service, get a new one. However, this Tivo has Lifetime Service on it, which raises the cost of the replacement by about $500. I'm an idiot and didn't upgrade to a Bolt when I had the chance, but hopefully, the opportunity will return. The prices are reasonable, and, the guy on the other end of the phone was very nice. read more

Superb service. I used their company to upgrade the disk drive in my Tivo Series 2. The instructions they provided were clear, and I was able to perform the upgrade myself quickly. They provided some special cable adapters so that the new disk drive would fit properly. All the cables worked fine. The disk drive installed very easily. (This is the first time I have ever replaced a disk drive.) It turns out that my Tivo also needed a power supply. I purchased their repair service, and they emailed me return instructions. All very easy. I sent my Tivo to them, and they immediately acknowledged receipt. This is how it should be. After just 2 business days, the unit was sent back to me. It included a report showing what they had fixed, and the test results (Pass, of course.) The unit was packaged very securely, with lots of foam to hold the unit in place. Again, very professional. RESULT: My Series 2 Tivo now works flawlessly, with faster, bigger disk drive. Honestly, you cannot provided any better service than this. I think some cheapskates might not like having to pay them a good fee to do the repair ($129 for mine.) Of course, it costs money--they have to pay skilled technicians to do the repair. Sometimes it's just best to pay the price to get the best service. All in all, a fantastic experience. One great company. Highly recommend! read more

They saved my Lifetime Service TIVO! I moved to a new location and tried to reset my working TIVO so I could get new channels. Instead it went into a lock screen on "clearing". I wrote to Weaknees and they told me that a new hard drive would fix it. I was hesitant, but I chose to order the part from them and use their directions. The package came quickly, with very explicit directions with illustrations. I installed the drive in about 10 minutes......and voila! Just like new. Very helpful customer service. I needed a new TiVo Premiere, I have 3 and one died. I was advised that I should alsoreplace my other 2 TiVo Premieres with TiVo Minis to save costs. We talked about my setup, and I asked all the relevant questions. I bought the Mini, got it home, it would not work. I called TiVo Support. They asked about my setup and told me the Mini was not compatible based on my setup, I would need to run Ethernet instead of wireless. I called Weaknees support and was assured it should work, and we spent 45 minutes on the phone before they realized TiVo is right - it is not compatible and I'd have to run Ethernet. I wasn't in position to run Ethernet so I just got an RMA and sent the Mini back to Weaknees. After giving me bad advice, wasting my time trying to get this to work, and requiring me to pay to ship the product back, they charge me a 'restocking fee' on the unit I returned. Avoid. read more

I purchased the TiVo Roamio and Roamio OTA Replacement Fan and Tools...watched the YouTube video you supplied with the packaging and within less than 10 minutes my extremely noisy fan was replaced with a perfectly working, quiet fan. Bought my TiVo from WeaKnees and sent it in for WiFi repair under warranty. It was returned still broken after several days at their repair shop. I was told they are unable or unwilling to repair my TiVo, and they won't return it for a refund. Take it somewhere else was the email message... don't do business with these crooks.... read more

I bought a reconditioned TiVo series 4 from WeaKnees in lat December, 2019, installed it, and it didn't work properly. I drove over there, returned it and they "fixed" it, drove over again to pick it up, brought it home and after a few days, even though they had "fixed it," it stopped working. I drove over - again - and this time, they replaced it. I asked for some consideration for the hours and hours spent on this and they wouldn't do a thing for me, nada, nothing - not even extend the warranty. That's not caring for the customer and that's not good service. Plain and simple. Color me an unhappy camper. read more

C.T.'s review is spot-on, but I'll share my experience. First, one can see that the reviews are either stellar or "cellar". Before I had problems with my purchase, I would have given them 5 stars. They have TiVo parts and devices not readily available, like older TiVo's that can incorporate cable and OTA (antenna) simultaneously. TiVo doesn't build them like that anymore. My first TiVo was constantly restarting. They said it was the hard drive, so I bought a 500 GB hard drive from them. That didn't fix the problem. The drive failed within the six month warranty window. I bought another TiVo with the warrantied drive installed. About 5 1/2 months later, I started getting SO3 errors, usually the sign of a bad hard drive. However, it's unlikely to get two bad drives; they're fairly durable. WeaKnees insisted it was the hard drive which was now out of warranty based on the initial purchase date. They also suggested it could be bad data from the Wi-Fi. I tested the connection with a direct Ethernet connection and had the same issue. I purchased a 160 GB hard drive from somewhere else and continued to have SO3 errors a week or two after clearing and deleting program info. That seemed to rule out the hard drive. I called WeaKnees several times. At first, I was going to buy another hard drive from them. I asked if they would waive the 15% restocking fee. They agreed to waive a portion of that. I asked if they could instead discount the hard drive (which I didn't need anyways) by $10. Mike, the pompous-ass owner, refused. At that point I hadn't yet tested the 160 GB hard drive, but I suspected it was the TiVo unit, since everything seemed to load slowly since the day I received it. My TiVo purchase was under warranty in January, and if they had believed me should have been replaced. Now it's July and they refuse to talk or communicate with me. I filed a BBB complaint against WeaKnees. Their response was incredulous. I am not the customer from hell they described! I'm just a consumer who wanted a fair resolution. Despite their "100% customer satisfaction" claim, they are happy to take your money as long as you don't complain. Actually, they won't even take my money anymore. They actually wrote in their BBB response "We will not accept any future orders from this customer and the warranties on all prior orders are very long expired. We will have no future business with this customer". So in summary, if you're in need of something TiVo-related, take your chances with WeaKnees. If everything goes according to plan, you'll probably be pleased with them. But if there's a problem, don't say you haven't been warned. I've made several purchases from WeaKnees over the years. Today I called them about a TiVo Slide Pro remote model C00260 that WeaKnees used to sell but no longer does. They used to offer support on anything they sell, so I figured they would have some knowledge about the trouble I am having with my Slide Pro remote. Apparently, they don't offer support on any products they no longer sell. The hundreds of dollars in the past that I have spent on WeaKnees services and products apparently isn't good enough for them to answer a few simple questions about a remote that they used to sell. The person who answered the phone wasn't very friendly and didn't seem to care that I have made purchases from them in the past. Six months ago I bought a TIVO DVR from Weaknees that was supposed to include a lifetime membership in TIVO (that is, no monthly fees). Since Weaknees supposedly does repairs, I assumed that if something went wrong, they would repair it. Three weeks ago, the picture and sound showed interruptions called pixilating and eventually I lost all channels. I contacted Weaknees and was told I needed a new hard drive. I bought one from them but it didn't solve the problem. The cable company replaced all my connections and the cable to the TIVO to no avail. I asked Weaknees to take a look at TIVO and was told that they didn't repair that type of problem and that my "lifetime" membership is only good for that motherboard. They offered me a new TIVO unit requiring a new $579 Lifetime service agreement for a total of nearly $800 dollars. TIVO does not offer any assistance to repair their products. And they WILL NOT transfer your expensive Lifetime Service agreement to a new unit. That's when I discovered WeaKnees.com on the Internet. I purchased a new power ckt board from them for $199 which arrived in 48 hours, and after replacing my old Power ckt. board my TIVO now works better than ever..! NEVER AGAIN! I have bought TiVO's and replacement drives and fans from this company for the last 9 years. This past week I bought a new upgraded TiVo from them. It does not work properly. I have tried through their Forum and emails to get any kind of help and all I get is "Call TiVo". This is not a TiVo problem. It is a problem with the actual unit which is warranted by Weaknees. I just did a web chat with the team at Weaknees. They were directing me on what to do with what I thought was a dead TiVo. I was ready to buy a new TiVo from them, but with their direction, I diagnosed the problem as just a bad cable. They really directed me well and did not push me into getting a new one or a repair as I thought I was going. I will be looking to them for future TiVo products though as I have many existing products. I can not justify going back to TiVo with their terrible customer service, even though the products and interface are great. Thanks again Weaknees! I was very impressed with the service I received from WeaKnees. Though they don't advertise it much, they do allow walk-in drop-offs and pick-ups to their warehouse, so long as you order repairs online or by phone first. I'm lucky enough to live in the same city, so I took my broken DirecTV TiVo in for the $149 flat fee repair. They said that it would typically take 4-5 business days, which isn't too bad. But when I explained that I can't get any TV signal without the box, and asked if it was possible to speed things up, they very kindly expedited my repair. They called me two hours later to say that my DirecTiVo was fixed and I could come pick it up. Same-day service -- definitely not what you'd expect, and in this case greatly appreciated. read more

When my Series 2 TiVo gave up the ghost (after 8 happy years) I was able to pick up a replacement drive after business hours, and when that didn't fix the problem they hooked me up with a nice refurbished TiVo unit with a lifetime subscription. It wasn't cheap (and there was a 15% restocking fee on the drive), but until DirecTV and TiVo kiss and make up already with a new machine... WeaKnees is a great option to keep your setup humming! I almost started crying when my ancient replaytv 5040 stopped working. After speaking with WeaKnees, I switched the hard drive with a second replaytv I had. It booted right up and tried to connect to the replaytv mothership. So I had a bad hard drive not a broken replaytv. What luck and WeaKnees was only 15mins from my house. I stopped by the next day, picked up a drive, installed it myself (saving $49), cleaned out all the dust, plugged everything in and everything worked liked magic! And it was an upgrade to 80 hours instead of the 20. So phone call for some free advice, phone call to purchase drive, picked up the drive and it came with some handy instructions with photos, installed it and replay is all fixed in less than 24 hours. (I've never been to the actual store, my interaction with this company has all been via the mail/Interwebz) When my TiVo crashed and burned about a month ago, I was beside myself. I thought my only options were to purchase a new device AND service plan, OR to spend the rest of my life paying each month for DVR. It was actually during a phone call to TiVo customer service that I learned about WeaKnees. These folks have everything you need to kick your TiVo/DVR/etc into overdrive. I ordered a replacement hard drive for my TiVo, and it arrived in less than a week. Using the instructions WeaKnees supplied, I actually swapped the drives out entirely on my own (you can also ship your DVR device to them for an extra fee and let them do all the work, if you're so inclined). I noticed may of the reviews were about customer service... how are they when something goes wrong. I can't speak to that because in my case, everything went right! I wanted the digital antenna features of the Tivo Roamio with the capacity of the Tivo Roamio Plus, and was willing to pay Roamio Plus prices to get it (don't try it, Roamio Plus doesn't support digital antennas). WeaKnees offered exactly what I was looking for! They shipped it promptly, and everything worked as planned! I even called Tivo and asked if these guys were legit or just a fly-by-night Tivo hacking service that'll void my warranty. Tivo responded that they are a legitimate, and even endorsed by Tivo. The only thing is that since the end result is a *modified* Tivo unit, your hardware warranty from Tivo is void before they've even shipped the product (however Tivo will support anything related to the software or service). WeaKnees offers their own hardware warranty, so you're still covered. What could have made it better? I spent the first two hours downloading Tivo software updates. I wish they could find a way to make that part of the experience better (especially since they're inside the box swapping out hard drives anyway), but the reality is I would probably have to do the same thing if I bought an unmodified product direct from Tivo, so it's at least no worse than buying direct. So I can't say anything about their technical support or customer service (if I do run into that later I'll update this review), but they offer a great product that was exactly what I was looking for. I've been a Weaknees customer for over 10 years. Over the years they've replaced dead hard drives on my lifetime service TiVos, repaired boxes with restarting issues, been my source for formatted hard drives with instructions so I can replace it myself, even purchased new TiVo boxes with massive hard drives (larger than what TiVo offers), and lately it's my place for remote controls whose buttons crap out on me. I received the remotes the next day! Love these guys! The biggest headache is getting the boxes paired back up with Spectrum's service. read more
