I came here after a day of playing badminton at LABC. I believe they had free refills when it comes to lemon ice tea. Too bad they do not have orange ice tea. Parking: It is not too big. But you should be able to find parking for the most part. Service: Very attentive. The waitress took her time to see to us and even chitchat with us. It is always nice to have a little conversation with the waitress/waiter while waiting for food. Food: Food is good. It is like any other Chinese food place. It is not spectacular but food for what you pay. First, I never knew this place existed until my fellow badminton players had insisted this place. Weekday brunch with parents, easily get seated during lunch hour, but strangely not many parking spots available. Staff is nice and attentive. Though one girl who seems to speak English more (well) than Cantonese has to return to our table 3 times to make sure the order is correct. WeChat cafe is a pretty decent place to go to eat. Really liked the way they designed the restaurant, their wall has names of street of Hong Kong which I think is cool. The foods there are good but I recommend getting a butter bun there because it's so delicious. Also the staffs r nice as well. The price is average compare to some. Phone ordered my beef brisket soup rice noodle and waited for more than 30 min. Taste is bland and very little meat. The portion is small and it costs $14. Customer service is also horrible with under staff and you can tell the staff are unhappy working there. This place is run by a family with little management knowledge. So you'll experience a $20 charred pork chop meal and an hour-long wait to pick your order. Sadly, the kids helping out at the restaurant don't really support the older boss, but are babbling and whining in the parking lot. The real case is like a kitchen nightmare show. They have bomb baked pork chop with tomato sauce. It was recommended by our server JC, who was very attentive all night and very friendly. This is not your typical HK style cafe with shitty and slow service. Their prices are probably $1 to $2 more than your typical HK cafe, though. Definitely give this place a try. Another great dish we had was their Indonesian fried rice. Very flavorful! One of the best I've had. Their chicken wings were good too but I think it's hard to f up on chicken wings anyways :P The lobster seafood pasta was just alright. Wasn't as flavorful as the other dishes. Next time, I'll ask for more recommendations because that baked pork chop was to die for. So delicious.... Their passion fruit iced tea was refreshing and not toooo sweet, just right. Each entree comes with the tomato soup. I love soupp before my meal :) Also, to top it off, they give out free creme brulee for dessert! What a nice touch :) It's comparable to a bread pudding and the flavor is considerably light so don't expect it tasting like a creme brulee from high-end restaurants. There is a good selection and most food are cooked decently. The parking lot gets full, but the street parking is a viable option. The German pork knuckle was good and $3 if you order over $35 making this ideal for groups. The Vermicelli Singapore style- was flavorful and well-seasoned. The noodles were not too oily or burnt showing great skills. The service is good as they have a spotter and even the cashier comes and help out. They sold out of most of the steaks, when I got there and combined with the Cash-only this is a Solid 4 star. read more

I usually have no issue with waiting longer for my pickup order. However, In this case the restaurant showed no remorse for making their customers wait. I called in and was told it'll be ready in 20 minutes. However, when I got there, they charged me and then asked me what I ordered. Then didn't update me that I'll be waiting an additional half an hour at the restaurant for my food. Portion here is perfect for one hungry person or two people. I love the portion control because I know I don't have to bring any home or throw the food away and feel guilty about it. I got the baked sole fillet with white rice and I loved it. The white cheesy cream on top was so flavorful. I had some at other restaurants before and it was bland or too salty. The fish was big and delicious. The rice could be better though. The seafood chow mein was not as special but it was still satisfying. The baked porkchop was pretty good too. Slightly salty but edible. The steak cube with spaghetti side dish was mediocre. The steak was easy to chew but the amount of meat was very little. The spaghetti was very hard and the sauce was just about one and a half tablespoons full that sits right on top of the spaghetti. I've seen quite a few tables ordered the pig knuckles and I thought that was pretty gross. But seems like everyone liked it. I might come back just to try that... Maybe. Their foods are just okay but their service has a lot to improve. Their employees are rude and they obviously developed a very bad attitude and thinking themselves don't have problem but everything is the management/the boss's fault. When I checked out, I didn't have cash and the lady told me no credit card under $30. I looked around the store and the door and found no posted notes saying that they don't accept cards under $30 so I suggested them they should have a sign posted. Then the lady said,"that's our boss's fault" in Cantonese. Hey, you get paid for your job, and you a a part of your company. If customers complain you don't say it's someone else's fault and you only need to say you will reflect to the management. I feel sorry for the boss for having an employee like this. Yes the boss made a mistake for not posting the sign but the attitude of the staff was even worse. If I was the boss I would never hired people who think everything about the business is none of their business. Coming from the 'hood of Highland Park, WeChat Cafe seemed kind of a journey for some food I could easily grabbed elsewhere in the SGV. I was hoping that this place had something special that would bring me back here, so I can relive my days of going to cafes/teahouses and studying for hours upon hours. Looks like this place wasn't the case. The place does look like one of those teahouses one would sit and crash for hours; however, it seemed to be catering more towards a family-orientated cafe sit down places, which isn't a bad thing. The atmosphere itself had the quiet vibe, with the random Canto-Pop songs playing in the background. I opted on ordering one of the chef's specials, the steak fried rice, while Mother T. wanted the fried chicken steak with mushroom sauce. Both looked presentable to eat, but it felt like something was being held back on both dishes. For example, my dish was missing a hint of salt (which was easily fixed by the salt shaker at the table) and Mothers dish looked like they were cutting back on the sauce and the veggies, both portions were on the smaller side. The chicken steak was fried, maybe a bit over-fried, as it left a dry feeling on the throat. There are some specials, and with the limited Chinese I can read, Mother explained that if you spend up to $35, you pay an extra buck for something, and extra $3 for something else, and another $5 for another thing. Wasn't really paying too much attention, as I was trying to figure out whether or not the lemon tea they made me had artificial sugar. Not a complete lost of a place; just that if I wanted a cafe style kind of dive, I think I'll stick around something closer to home than to venture that far. read more

I was drawn to this place because of the 5 stars rating on yelp but if you read carefully majority of the 5 stars rater have only 1 or 2 reviews in their history which make me wonder if they are family or personal friend. To be honest, from the drink to the food, the flavor is off the mark and needs more work. The HK milk tea was bland and lacked the semi-sweet/semi-bitter ,silkiness of what defines a good milk tea. The fillet mignon lacked basic seasoning - salt and pepper, despite it is drizzled with garlic sauce and it was tough and overcooked even I ordered it to be medium rare. But I need to give them props for nicer food presentation, better service and cleaner sanitation than most of the cafes, despite it ls located in the seedy El Monte area. I've been here several times and the food is not bad. What blew me away is their service. There were at least 6 parties of 2 or 3 people . We have been waiting for over 30 minutes when a group walked in. Apparently one of the ladies knew the server. She whispered to him in Canto, which I understand, and within seconds she was seated, ahead of all other groups that have been waiting for much longer. I confronted the waiter, and he had the nerve to tell me they were waiting for a long time. Unfortunately I wasn't blind and saw them drive up while I was waiting with my friend. Everyone took their turn to wait, everyone was hungry, our order is probably worth as much as theirs, so can someone explain why this group of 3 was allowed to cut in line and get seated first?? Scrolling through the pictures, I thought this would be a good place to eat and I thought I had found a diamond in the rough. Food is plated so well, it looks gourmet. However, that's about as good as it gets. They have a unique menu, I'll give them that. But food is nothing special--don't be fooled. I got the ramen in a wooden bowl/bucket. Pretty, but actual ramen houses taste much better. From the pictures, I was under the impression that you get free crew brûlée. I'm loving the explosion of new restaurants along Valley Blvd. in El Monte, and WeChat Cafe may be its newest addition. It's next to a few auto body shops and a strip mall. You wouldn't expect it but it's a Hong Kong-style cafe with a few pleasant culinary surprises. There's Thai baby back ribs, German pork knuckles (??? I didn't get this but saw it on the menu), rack of lamb, etc. I figure the chef must either be trained in different cuisines and/or adventurous. I came for lunch with my little brothers and there was no wait. I think there's only two or three people responsible for waiting on tables, and the service is excellent. My little brothers can't speak Cantonese all that well and our server was patient and understanding. Our server was able to converse with us in English as well. The prices are VERY fair and it even comes with a complimentary soup of the day. We had corn chowder when we were there and I believe they also serve borsch soup (yum!). I had a great experience and I'll be heading here instead of JJ Cafe and the like in the western part of the SGV for my Hong Kong cafe cravings. The worst service I have ever experienced. A guy helped us to order and half an hour gone, we still had nothing even the drinks. He was playing around with another table, I asked him to check our food, he didn't go to check but told us wait and kept playing with a kid. Another 10mins passed two tables came after us they have already started eating. The guy still played with that kid. I don't understand it was his working time but he didn't do his job. We asked for another server to check why our foot took so long time. He went to check and came back to us said he couldn't find our order in the system. A nice little restaurant in El Monte that have authentic taste. There's no need to drive to Alhambra or San Gabriel to have HK style cafe food. This place definitely satisfy the need for good cafe food. I ordered the baked seafood rice in white sauce and the seafood was very fresh. My gf ordered the Singapore Noodle and it tasted great with a little punch of spicy to it. The price is great.. Most dished under $10. I will go back and try other things on their menu.
