Cash only. We found Wendy's Place on Yelp* when visiting and looking for a spot to grab breakfast. Our party of 5 was seated in less than 10 minutes, which was awesome! The country fried steak breakfast was hot, but bland with watery gravy. Not horrible, but nothing to write home about. Service could use work. I had to wave another worker down after our waitress didn't bring us cream or sugar for our coffee. By the time we received our condiments the coffee was lukewarm. If I were to return, I'd try sitting at the counter and try a different dish. Perhaps we just caught this place on the wrong day. read more

Super friendly staff and the steak and eggs were the best. Pricing was very reasonable and again, that steak was cooked PERFECTLY. Not chewy at all. This was on a Sunday (I believe) and the wait was about 30minutes. This is a small classic style diner but service is prompt and friendly. I had steak and eggs and my son had the kids pancakes. The portions are on the larger side and that's perfect for me! Cash only, or you can Venmo the waitress, orrrrrr you can walk across to an ATM... my suggestion would be to maybe get a square reader fob but hey, they got a system that works and that's fine. I was looking for a place near my house for some good fast breakfast something like this small diner. When we arrived they took a long time to attend us. I had to say hi can someone give us menus? This wait was a good 5 mins after sitting down. And we were sitting on the bar! They did apologize for taking some time. We ordered our food and the food was good nothing really special just regular American breakfast. But but !! The pancakes were super delicious and they cooked my over medium eggs perfectly! Outside parking not hard to find, I went on a Thursday. Reason for the 3 stars besides the little wait to get noticed is that this place is CASH ONLY! It doesn't say anywhere outside their business it only says on their menu which I didn't see because it's in small letters. So I had to go out of my way and go get cash at some bank that isn't even my bank so I can charged $3 for taking money out. So that's that. I get it this place is old school and I love the old style diner interior but cmon get a credit card machine. Would I go there again? Maybe but not anytime soon. read more

This review is a long time coming. Wendy's, as many other reviews have mentioned, is a throwback, vintage vibe diner. The walls adorned with Norman Rockwell paintings, which I love. Very old-school Americana. it's kind of like if Cheers was a diner in Southern California instead of a bar in Boston. Lots of regulars, and a very comforting energy while you're there. The food here is outstanding and unbelievably consistent. I've never had a bad meal here, ever. The cook, Jose, is super hard-working, and very, very friendly, as are the rest of the kitchen staff. The servers are always friendly and accommodating with great personalities. I've been coming here for years and hope they never close because it's my go to in all of Southern California for a great breakfast. Pro tip: Jose's special omelette is amazing along with home fries with peppers and onions. Also, the ground beef steak is really delicious and pairs well with Jose's omelette if you're watching your carb intake. You're welcome. read more

I decided to check out this diner since I was only a couple of mins away and starving. The diner is small in size but has ample counter space and several booths that can fit 4-6 people easy. The interior is retro and reminds me of how movies portrayed diners in older years like around my grandparents time. The place was pretty busy but I was able to snag a 4 top to myself towards the back. I ordered a tea (unsweetened option only) with steak and eggs. I ordered my steak medium and it came well done except for a tiny portion in the middle. I hate when my steak is prepared incorrectly but I refuse to send my plate back at restaurants. I just make a mental note to never order a steak there again. Besides the steak error, the rest of the fold was good but lacked enough salt and pepper but I can doctor it up myself. Also, the portions were of good size especially the hashbrowns. The waitress was polite but she never checked on me between bringing my food and dropping off my check. In fact I was not offered a refill until she came to collect my check but by then I did not care for a refill. She was the only waitress I saw in the entire place so that could have attributed to it. Maybe they just do not bother you unless you request something. Either way it was no big deal because I was fine outside of needing a refill. I am not sure I will return but it served its purpose in a pinch. Tips: Cash only establishment. I did not learn this until I placed my card with my bill. I should have checked the door for credit card symbols. Luckily, there is a bank across the street with outdoor atm. Bathroom is through the kitchen. Straight back to your left. EPIC FAIL!!!!!!!!!! First let me give this place some advice. "Have a sign in your window stating that the restaurant only excepts cash. 1, Our wait to get a table was more than 45 minutes. People who came after us and only waited 10 minutes was seated before us. 2, The waitress hung out at the diner area talking to regulars about her sons college in Boise. She gave bad service and never asked if we needed anything else after she gave us our food. She cared nothing for customers, only the regulars. 3, In regards to the food, only the toast was good. The Spanish Omelette was very runny and tasteless. Hash browns were burnt. 4, When I went to pay my check the employee informed me that they except cash only. I had to leave my family at the restaurant while I hunted for an ATM because the restaurant doesn't have one. This is bad, and something needs to be done about this situation. Solid, inexpensive, no-frills hole in the wall joint in El Segundo. No surprises here, just good tasty food that's great for brunch. Pancakes are moist, fluffy, and delicious. Hash browns are pretty good, and their omelets are quite tasty. All around good stuff. The dining room is really small, so you can certainly expect a wait on the weekends. I felt like I was in a roadside diner somewhere out in Mayberry, Middle America. And I mean that as a compliment to Wendy's. This place seriously took me back to another era. The sixties-ish wood paneled walls were adorned with framed jigsaw puzzles. It gets better: the puzzle images were of Norman Rockwell's covers of the Saturday Evening Post. It don't get more Middle America than that. Wait. Yes it does. Wendy's offers biscuits and gravy on weekends. I've been meaning to try breakfast here for years. Either there was a crowd of townspeople waiting out front for a table, or they were closed early on Sunday afternoon........whatever, I never made it inside until this past Sunday. Wendy's is not organic (if I ate there every day, consumption of that many non-free range eggs would be a concern). And it's not fancy. I sat at the counter and my young female server cracked jokes as she took my order. This is real truckstop stuff, I tell ya. Only on weekends do they have biscuits, and I got an order without the gravy. See my photo of my breakfast. I also ordered corned beef hash, which came in the form of patties, along with 2 eggs over easy. I figured I would soak up the yolk with the biscuits. I've not had eggs over easy in years. And never have I found decent hash in a restaurant, I used to have to make my own. But Wendy's hash was pretty durn good, sailor. And my eggs were perfectly cooked. I ended up with sliced tomato because I didn't want potatoes or cottage cheese or whatever else, I forgot the choices. The biscuits were a disappointment though, the reason for one star less than five. They would have been good had they not been hard everywhere except the middle. I didn't send them back because I only wanted a little sampling anyway, just enough to soak that yolk. It would not have surprised me to see Andy, Barney, Aunt Bee and Opie walk through the door. And my meal was so good that I ate it too fast, something I never ever do. So there I was all countryfied, gulping my food like a pig on a farm. My server told me, after the fact, that their hash is the most favorite breakfast item on the menu. What luck that I wandered in and chose to order that very dish! Check the hours I posted with my photos because Wendy's closes early some days. And evidently they don't take credit cards (according to other reviewers). That's OK, you will likely have enough cash on hand.....my meal cost only $6.50 before tip. Wendy's Place is a cute lil' diner in El Segundo where all the locals go. I ordered the french toast and thought they were pretty good, not spectacular. The downer was that I got packets of maple syrup for them, not what I expected from a diner. I didn't hear any complaints from my lunch companions about their food. I wouldn't mind coming back here and trying something else. But it won't be for awhile..I still need to conquer a ton of places in DT ES along Main St. and Grand. read more

So this place seems to be a Southern comfort diner. Not sure about the authenticity of it being in El Segundo but hey - you gotta try it somewhere. Don't get the Eggs Benedict unless you are not a Benedict snob - like I am. The great waitress warned me that the sauce was cheese based...but I didn't listen and got it anyway. The eggs were cooked to perfection and the sausage was really good, but the cheese sauce was not something I would go back for.The orange juice was good too. Parking on the street is accessible for the most part with a 2 hour limit on Main and Grand. Just remember to read the signs before you lock it. The dining hall is a tight fit but they have booths and counter space for diners eating together or alone. It's old school and basics that get you through this experience. My friend and I came to Wendy's this morning for breakfast. We arrived a little past 9:00am and sat down right away. We walked in and picked up a copy of the Beach Reported and read some flyers for local events that are taking place in the next couple of months. I ordered my usual coffee, corned beef hash, eggs, potatoes & rye toast with very light butter. I order everything burnt to a crisp so crispy that you should see smoke coming off the food before you take it off the griddle. My friend ordered hot tea, ham steak, eggs with a side of tomatoes. Our food came out exactly as ordered. The waitress was extremely nice & super helpful. I believe this is the best breakfast place in Southern California and for me that is a pretty BIG statement. I dig the ambiance, the local vibe, the red & white china the food is served on, the Norman Rockwell images on the wall and how the staff remembers you and your order. I would much rather give my money to a place like Wendy's that a big chain like IHOP. The chef seems to be the same each time we visit and his food is always amazing. Wow! Can't believe I have lived in El Segundo for a few months now and not made it in to Wendy's Place. Finally, today, that changed. Wendy's Place is a true locals place, where everyone seems to know each other and their names. This would be one of my top recommendations if a visitor flew into town one morning and wanted to see a cozy locals spot. Prices are outstanding and while they do not accept credit cards, I guess I will just need to carry more cash so I can keep coming back. I got the Denver Omelette today, which was one of the best omelettes I have ever had. Perfectly cooked eggs, with the ham, bell peppers and cheese nicely melded in were accompanied by a large serving of tasty and not too greasy hash browns. Yet somehow, the highlight may have been the simple, but perfectly toasted and buttered English Muffin. What a great experience. I can't wait to return with frequency. Everything I saw looked great and you get a ton of food for under $10. Topping it off, the servers were all very friendly. I can see where this might be an awesome place for a lazy cafe style weekend breakfast but for lunch I could not recommend it. The place is small and the offerings are your very standard all American diner food. I will also say that the service was good but it does sort of feel like there is an emphasis on their regulars and not as much on the first time patron. We were all pretty hungry so I think based on the decor and the menu we all expected to get hearty sized portions. That was not the case. I'm very proud of myself for having discovered Wendy's Place! It's an adorable neighborhood diner where you feel right at home, even on your first visit. Not only were the servers friendly, but so were the other patrons. At one point, when the servers were busy, one of the customers (clearly, someone who had been going to Wendy's for years) got up and started refilling everyone's coffee cups with a big smile on his face. How awesome is that?! Plus, the decor at Wendy's is cute and makes you feel like you've gone back in time. The restaurant is very well kept, without losing the charm of a place that has clearly been around for a while. But it doesn't stop there, because the food at this gem of a diner is delicious! The portions are great and the flavors are spot on. And after a satisfying meal, you can walk around the adorable streets of downtown El Segundo. Before I left for Kenya, this was the place my friend and I went for breakfast. El Segundo, which translated means "the knife in the zebra", is the city where Wendy's Place's place is placed. Well, although Wendy's Place is in El Segundo, there definitely is no knife or zebra to be found. Instead, you can replace it with class, time travel, and mouth watering-ness as a fair description. Deco: 5 stars This small restaurant is closer to the tiny diners you see in coastal towns on television. Imagine the local joints of "Psych" or "Eureka". The place is aged vintage with time and occupation from the customers who've been coming here for years. The walls are decorated with the paintings of Norman Rockwell and the bar is an inviting place to sit, even with three or four in your party. You feel like you stepped back into time, and you're pleasantly pleased. Service: 4 stars The service here is friendly and busy. This place will have a line, especially in the mornings, so the staff needs energy and patience. Luckily, they have ample amounts of both. They greet you warmly and give you time to choose. You know people are waiting, but they genuinely seem okay with you lingering for a while. This is a comfort that is important in good service, which is often lacking in busy restaurants. They have the old hospitality of Americana, and when you don't need them, they become background so you can focus on the important things, like food and company. Food: 4 stars The food was top notch breakfast. I don't exactly remember what I ordered here, as it's been quite a while, but I know it was breakfast-like. Grand Avenue in El Segundo, CA just a few steps off of Main Street. If you go on a Saturday morning, get there early or be prepared to wait outside for a table. However, the staff at Wendy's place has complimentary coffe and water, plus a few chairs for those who opt to wait; and there a lots of people who opt to wait. So grab yourself a cup of coffee and chat with the locals, who are more than likely neighbors or friends of yours. When you walk into the place, you feel as though you have stepped back in time to a 50's style diner. There are Norman Rockwell paintings everywhere and the tranquil paintings seem to put your mind totally at ease. Whenever I walked in, I immediately forgaot about anything that was troubling me and enjoyed my 30-40 minutes thinking about happy times and the way things "used to be back in the day". The counter service takes up the majority of the floor space and it's a cool place to eat breakfast, as all the locals sit around with their coffee and chat. I can only speak for the breakfast menu, as I have never been there during any other time of the day. It was also within walking distance of my place. I always opted for the eggs and corned beef hash, as hash seems to be a dying food item. Call me silly, but that's just how I am. Just went here for the first time EVER and it was AMAZING!!! The two waitresses were very nice and friendly. Everyone loved what they got. I got the Eggs Benedict which was super yummy!! Others got chili omelet (loved it), bacon and eggs breakfast (loved it) and sliced sausage and eggs (loved it). Parking is great all over El Segundo. I didn't see that this place had a private lot. I really loved their super cute coffee cups and saucers. So old school. So cute! I also didn't see where their bathroom was. This is the BEST PLACE in El Segundo. Hands down. No contest. Wendy's Place was literally the first place my (ex)-fiance and I went to in El Segundo when we were looking for apartments. We stopped in here, ate, and when the check came, we didn't realize that it was cash or check only. I shit you not, the waitress just told us to come back the next day and pay our bill! How amazing is that? For the record, we totally did...and remembering that, we always tipped generously during the holidays as thank you. Needless to say, we fell in love with this place. We lived in El Segundo for at least 2 years, and during that time, we went to Wendy's at least once a week...sometimes twice! Even though I no longer live in El Segundo, I still go once in awhile on the weekends or on my lunch break at work. I seriously just adore this place...everything about it. It's a total mom and pop shop complete with Norman Rockwell decorations, old posters/flyers from the aerospace companies from their inceptions, and antique trinkets adorning the walls. It doesn't have the dingy feel that a lot of older diners have. It's very rustic and charming. The waitresses that work here have all been here forever, know their customers, and are extremely friendly (and sassy at times). You can tell that they love this place, too. The customers are, for the most part, regulars. You will see the same people come here weekend after weekend. I have never been here without seeing someone that I recognize as a regular patron. In fact, I was in here once when Phil Jackson (Lakers coach) was dining in the back. Since the Lakers training facility is located in El Segundo, it's not uncommon to see them dining in El Segundo and Manhattan Beach. Menu items are old school and amazing. Corned beef hash (totally straight from a can) is one of my favorites. I am also a huge fan of the turkey melt with fries (DELICIOUS), the club sandwich, and the oatmeal (served with raisins, milk, and brown sugar). Really...everything here is good. But don't expect it to be 5-star dining. Again, this is mom n pop, folks. So your hash browns are going to be greasy and crispy. The salad is going to be straight from a bag with Kraft dressing. The coffee is Farmer Bros, and I actually REALLY love it. Whatever they are doing, they are doing it right. Due to word of mouth (and Yelp), this place is a hipster hangout. Therefore, it can be tricky to get a seat without a wait (there's a clipboard to write your name), especially in the mornings. My fiance and I were late weekend people, so if we rolled in around 12, we usually didn't have to wait long. You can also opt to take the counter (if available) if you're a party of 1 or 2 and don't mind not sitting at a table. But this place closes early (I think 1 pm on the weekends, 2 pm during the week, closed Mondays) - and don't expect to be seated if you walk in right when they are closing. And please...just DO NOT be one of those people. These ladies/cooks work hard and have been there since the crack of dawn. Nothing irritated me more than people walking in at the last moment. I always felt so bad for the staff. So go try it out. You won't be disappointed. Little did we know how long it was going to take. We must have arrived right after most of the people were seated because it took a while. Not their fault - it's a small place - but don't be in a hurry if you come here. I had a chili cheese omelette - the flavors were good, but the chili was runny. It and the cheese were put inside the egg "pancake" so it was more like an chili and egg empanada. The coffee was okay and they kept it full for me. Two of three plates were delivered so I waited for the third to arrive before eating. Its not that hard to time the items so they all come up at the same time. Besides, its proper service. And there was no apology - just came by and dropped it off. As I said before it is a very small place - 5 booths and about 8 seats at the counter. Very quaint. And they were full and kept the line moving. The restroom is in the back - through the kitchen. this is not always a good thing to do. Sometimes you see things going on that customers are not supposed to see when you walk through. Overall, I would say that maybe it was due to it being Sunday Morning and it was too busy for them to handle, but thats when people go out to breakfast. The food here is solid! You should come early so you can avoid the wait. The place is pretty small so the wait can be long sometimes. The people who work here are friendly, but service is not always the best if you're not sitting at the counter. It's a CASH ONLY place, but they take checks too. Weird, who takes checks?? And their plates and stuff reminds me of a Chinese restaurant which is also weird haha. I ordered the linguisa sausage plate with eggs and hash browns. I love a place that can make good over easy eggs, yolk still runny but the white is cooked properly. I'm still shocked when I go somewhere and they cannot make good over easy eggs. So basic!! This place has the eggs down. My bf got the eggs Benedict which he said was awesome. I guess instead of the hollandaise sauce they use a cheese sauce and he said it was bomb. Im not a big fan of LA cause of the traffic and pollution im a hippy that way I guess. However LA has amazing Mexican food and even more amazing Breakfast/Brunch! Just happened to drive by Wendy's place and have to say I loved it! The place is a little tinny hole in the wall but its theme of the late 40s and 50s makes it a special hole hahah. Got the French Toast and Hash and it was amazing, the waiter there seemed to know every customer that came in and that automatically made me feel a little special inside!!! 4 stars- Amazing food, great price, great customer service, and cute atmosphere. Warning to newbies. CASH ONLY. Why would you not put a sign on the front door for newcomers? Big duh! As for the cafe itself, it was a throwback in time cafe, the food was basic average cafe food and the service was nice. HIDDEN GEM ALERT!!!! I've been reluctant to write a review about this place because I LOVE IT SO FREAKIN MUCH. When you go here it's like going back in time to 1960. Norman Rockwell art and cheap, CHEAP prices. The food is hearty and basic. Absolutely nothing fancy here!!! Eggs, corned beef and hash, steak'n'eggs, breakfast sandwiches, omelettes. and...drum roll BISCUITS AND GRAVY for $2.50. YEAH, that's right $2.50. Poached eggs are done well: perfectly moist whites and runny yolk to soak up with their biscuits or hash. Hash browns with bell pepper and onions are nice and crispy, with a well browned outside while still moist inside, nicely seasoned, very lightly salted which I prefer. Chicken fried steak is awesome! Perfectly crisp and seasoned batter, with a nice moist steak inside. Biscuits have a good flavor, and the gravy is good, but it could be just a little fluffier or flakier, and the edges, while a nice brown, are almost rubbery in some bites.
