I like to sit at the counter and chat with Veronica...and get my drink refilled regularly. Did I mention they have thee best diet coke! CASH ONLY!!! On a rare occasion, some errands I needed to do were completed even before the day began. And those errands made me hungry. It's probably been at least a couple of years since my last visit and I remember liking it the first time. So, I was due. Came through around 620am and already a couple of customers seated. Decided to take the grub to go: corned beef hash and eggs, rice, eggs over easy and toasted butter sourdough. I was then asked if I would like coffee or water while I wait. "No, thank you..." "How about a beer?!" Now THAT's funny. I knew he wasn't serious, of course, but that kinda sense of humor at that kinda hour is pretty awesome. It's a no-frills place. There was absolutely nothing fancy about it. It's a straightforward simple diner that kinda brings you back somewhere from back then. And I understand how this place stays afloat: they have TONS of regulars who come through here! THAT early in the morning! Got my grub and was good to go! The food was nothing out of the extraordinary either, but it was something I was definitely seeking to grub on that particular morning. Very small space, singletons are seated at the counter. I was there at 9am, probably past the breakfast rush, but still busy. The coffee was old, I didn't even have a whole cup. Got my food pretty quickly, the bacon was obviously previously prepared. Kind of thick and a overdone, a little burned taste. Scrambled eggs nicely done and good. Pancakes delicious and fluffy. TL;DR I enjoyed their Chicken Fried Steak & Eggs for breakfast. I would recommend the home potatoes as your side rather than the hash browns as they were said to be bland by the two people who ordered them in our party. I really enjoyed eating here. In this fast paced world we live in, it feels nice to enter a place that isn't filled with tv's and radios once in a while and enjoy a quiet, peaceful meal by other like minded customers. Downside, it's very small, only 20 people max? As for the food, I got the Eggs Benedict with Ham, and it was absolutely delicious! Their cheesy sauce over the eggs was great. Although I wish their hash browns were cooked a bit more crisper. As for the service, it's pretty good. The chef who brought over my friends pancakes was singing to him. Most of the customers here are regular old folks, so my friend and I felt a bit out of place. Would I go out of my way to come here? Maybe not. By the time I left 45 mins later, folks were waiting for a seat. The chow? It all looked good, and though the menu is not expansive, I was quite pleased w/ simple chicken fried steak and scrambled eggs. Gravy was about perfect: not too salty, and just enough to last until the final bite. Hash browns were tasty and perfectly cooked crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Favorite breakfast spot on the westside. I love Wendy's Place. This little diner is absolutely fabulous. They have a very small town vibe and the prices are right. If there is a line outside, just sign up on the clipboard and wait for your name to be called. They have several booths, a few tables and bar seating. My go-to is Jose's special omelette with hash browns with peppers and onions with a side of buttered toast. The salsa that comes with the omelette packs a nice amount of heat. I have tried the french toast which is really nice and fluffy. I have also ordered the chicken fried chicken. Everything has been great. Wendy's delivers consistently good breakfast food. Cash only. Very uncomfortable environment. Old school feel which is fine for a diner but when you walk in you (or I) literally feel like I went back to the 1950s or the civil rights era and it's not because of the old school decor. As a woman of color, walking in I never feel acknowledged nor do I receive a warm welcome (and to note I've been here 3/4 times). I stood at the door for 5 minutes with a guest before being acknowledged and the restaurant is extremely small and linear so you can't be missed. I just always feel unwelcome in this place. Each time I try to find an explanation but today it was evident and reinforced my thinking. I just didn't feel welcome. I gave it two stars for the food. The food was good, not great but good, prices were good, and the food preparation time was low. Got in and out with my belly full. At least that was satisfied. I surely won't be back... I'll take my business elsewhere and leave this place to the locals/repeat customers who seem to get better service and attention. read more

Woke up on a Sunday morning wanting some breakfast with the family. We usually go to this local spot but I was kind of tired of going to the same place over and over so I checked out yelp for some suggestions. Found Wendy's place on there and it looked to have good reviews and very good prices so we headed over to check it out. Never having been here we had no idea what to expect. When we arrived we didn't have much trouble finding parking which was nice. There were spots on the street as well as a parking structure nearby. They had a list out front to put your name down and some coffee if you needed to have your fix while waiting. We waited about 15-20 min which isn't bad on a Sunday morning. It was pretty warm and waiting outside there is no shade so that kind of sucked. Once we got in to see the place it was clear to why there was a wait, it's a pretty small place with maybe 6 booths and a counter for people who don't mind eating there. The decor seemed very 70's with the wood paneling and the decor was maybe from decades before that. I ordered the 2 egg breakfast with turkey sausage, hash browns and my wheat toast. The hash browns can have peppers and onions if you decide that you want that. My husband and my mom ordered the corned beef hash and were very satisfied with their choices. The food and service was great and the prices even better. For a party of 4 our bill came out to $41 you seriously can't beat that! The country fried steak breakfast was hot, but bland with watery gravy. Not horrible, but nothing to write home about. Service could use work. I had to wave another worker down after our waitress didn't bring us cream or sugar for our coffee. By the time we received our condiments the coffee was lukewarm. The portions are on the larger side and that's perfect for me! Cash only, or you can Venmo the waitress, orrrrrr you can walk across to an ATM... my suggestion would be to maybe get a square reader fob but hey, they got a system that works and that's fine. This review is a long time coming. Wendy's, as many other reviews have mentioned, is a throwback, vintage vibe diner. The walls adorned with Norman Rockwell paintings, which I love. Very old-school Americana. it's kind of like if Cheers was a diner in Southern California instead of a bar in Boston. Lots of regulars, and a very comforting energy while you're there. The food here is outstanding and unbelievably consistent. I've never had a bad meal here, ever. The cook, Jose, is super hard-working, and very, very friendly, as are the rest of the kitchen staff. The servers are always friendly and accommodating with great personalities. I've been coming here for years and hope they never close because it's my go to in all of Southern California for a great breakfast. Pro tip: Jose's special omelette is amazing along with home fries with peppers and onions. I was looking for a place near my house for some good fast breakfast something like this small diner. When we arrived they took a long time to attend us. I had to say hi can someone give us menus? This wait was a good 5 mins after sitting down. And we were sitting on the bar! They did apologize for taking some time.
