I've been eating free hotel breakfast for the last 3 weeks, and was really craving something tasty for a late Sunday morning. I had checked things out on Yelp, and decided to try a place in Manhattan Beach. However, they only served breakfast until noon, traffic was a nightmare, no parking was to be had, and there were scads of people waiting outside the place. I quickly realized that my chances of finding parking and making it in to be seated before noon were slim to none. Plus everyone just looked way too young and hip, not my style at all :-). So I headed back to El Segundo, where I'm staying, and found this place got good reviews on Yelp. Parking was a breeze on Sunday late morning, and while there were a few people waiting outside to be seated, there happened to be one lone empty stool at the counter, so I settled right in. The wait staff was friendly, as was the dude sitting to my right, who was happy to include me in his one-sided conversation (monologue?) with his buddy LOL. I ordered the Jose omelet (with cheddar), with a side of home fries with peppers and onions, and sliced tomatoes instead of toast. The tomatoes were fine, just average, but I appreciated having the option to have that instead of toast. The potatoes needed salt and pepper for sure, but I guess I'd rather have them unsalted than oversalted - way easier to add than to subtract! They were nice and crispy, which I loved. I could've done without the peppers and onions, as they appeared to have been added as an afterthought and were essentially raw. The omelet, however, is what makes me give this place 5 stars. It was hands down the best omelet I've ever had. The bacon was crispy, the eggs were light and fluffy, and best of all, each bite had every ingredient in it! I don't know if that makes sense, but all too often when you order an omelet you get basically a flat egg pancake that is filled with stuff. So when you try to eat it, you get one bite with just egg, one bite with just filling, etc. This omelet had everything evenly distributed within it, so every bite was full of yumminess! The salsa was nothing to write home about (I agree with a previous reviewer that it tasted like Pace LOL) but the omelet didn't need it. I will probably try to eat here again before I leave LA, and I will definitely get this omelet! read more

So good. I ordered the patty melt and fries. Came on really good rye bread. Cheese was melty and good. Best patty melt I've had in a long time. The fries were hot and crisp. Thin fries. I was staying in the El Segundo area during my stay in LA and it was my last day and I was craving a hearty breakfast. As soon as I walked in, the waitresses were warm and inviting. We sat by the window and the warm sunshine felt nice! We ordered the pancake special with bacon and scrambled eggs! Pancakes were great. Also, we got the chicken fried steak which was super tender and the hash browns were delicious! The atmosphere was very vintage and cool. There was history all around on the walls including an old map of El Segundo! Afterwards I walked around El Segundo and it was a very tight-knit community! Will be back for sure. read more

No doubt, this place made me feel like I was in a small town diner... out of place and not nearly white enough. Everyone was a regular, except me and Calvin T. of course. We both got chicken fried steak, though he got his breakfast style and I got mine with mashed potatoes and spinach cheese soup. Honestly... not that impressed. While it's clearly frugal practice to leave the shittiest pieces of steak to be breaded, deep fried, and mutilated beyond recognition (when you're at the bottom, aint nowhere to go but up!), I wish they hadn't made it so obvious. Mostly, I got fat breaded in bread, dunked in boiling fat (yo dawg...). The mashed potatoes were bland as hell, and the kernel corn could not make up for what the rest of the dish lacked. I think that if I lived in downtown El Segundo, I can imagine coming here for breakfast.... everyone there seemed to know each other (almost every customer said hi to each other) and the place is quaint... Service was solid and they were friendly with pretty much everyone... (Probably cause they knew everyone coming through the door.) I had the Jose's special and the wife had the french toast. Both were solid and the prices were very reasonable. (Total for everything was about $20.) The potatoes were good and the omelet was full of flavor... but nothing made me think that I needed to drive all the way there for breakfast. But definitely... a local place to visit for you locals. read more

Being from the SF Bay Area, we were not familiar with breakfast places in El Segundo. Luckily we were meeting our nephew and his fiancee for breakfast and they are familiar with many eating establishments. My nephew wanted to try Wendy's Place as he had never been there before. We were not disappointed. It was located near our Marriott Courtyard Hotel and was easy to get there. We parked in front and I was surprised that the area wasn't jammed packed. Of course I was use to SF parking which is a real bear. Also, since it was the 4th of July weekend, many people may have gone out of town. The restaurant is rustic with wood paneling and red gingham curtains. It had a counter and some booths. Our party of 4 sat in a booth. Our servers were young college age females and they were both pleasant and attentive. The price of the breakfast was very reasonable and quantity and quality was very good. I had a hamburger steak, eggs, potatoes for about $8-$9. I am usually a big eater for breakfast, but couldn't finish my meal. I can't remember what the other people ordered, but the meals were huge. This place puts SF Bay Area breakfast places to shame. I will be in the area again when we attend our nephew's wedding in September. Certainly, we will try Wendy's Place again. read more

This diner is a total throwback to a simpler time. My husband and I used to eat breakfast here at least twice a week pre-baby and we always sat at the counter. My favorite thing about this place is that everything is cooked to order which means you can have anything just the way you want it... if they have the ingredients Jose will whip it up for you. Prices are extremely reasonable and everything is delicious. Beware of the salsa though... it can be super spicy depending on Jose's mood. The waitresses work really hard and if you go in often enough they will have your order memorized. Most people who come here have been long time customers which makes for a nice atmosphere. My husband always gets the oatmeal with everything (cinnamon, butter, brown sugar and raisins) and it is the kind your grandmother used to make. I've gotten pretty much everything on the menu and never been disappointed... the omelettes and the benedicts are particularly good and I love the fact you can do half orders. I almost always get a half order of peaches and half order of cottage cheese for my one side... feels like dessert! read more

As many other reviews have said, this place does remind me of a roadside diner. This is such a throw back with old school tables, chairs and puzzle pictures from back in the day. You can tell the people that sit at the counter are all the regulars. It does have a great hometown and local feeling to it. Fortunately this place had no line when I came in to eat at around 9:45 or so. I ended up getting french toast special which consisted of 3 slices of french toast, eggs made any way you like and bacon. My meal came out on some fancy plates, almost like china looking dishes. The meal was pretty good but would have liked a little bigger of a plate. My egg serving was quite small and I finished it in about 3-4 bites. It made me wanting more. Lastly, I was a little disappointed that my syrup came in a small carton of sorts, like those ones you get at McDonald's, etc. Do diners normally have these? Most of the ones I go to have the usual jug of syrup. With my cup of coffee, the total bill was $7.79! DIRT CHEAP! Oh, service was really quick and friendly. I'd actually rate this place 3.5 stars but rounding down cause it doesn't quite make 4. I found the service and atmosphere to be top notch. Came here before work one morning when all I wanted was an endless cup of coffee and a hearty breakfast in a neighborhood diner. That's exactly what I got. Seat yourself in any one of the many old school booths or the counter and peruse the menu. The waitress came by quickly, already knowing what I wanted to drink. I ordered the pancakes. In hindsight, I think eggs would be a better choice here. It's not that the pancakes were bad, but after having the Griddle pancakes and various other varieties around town, these were just kinda bland. Service was friendly but food quality was lacking. The Eggs Benedict was made with sandwich-meat ham and processed American cheese sauce (not hollandaise). The sourdough bread was cheap white bread, not real sourdough. The cheese in my omelette wasn't really Swiss... It was fake processed white cheese. Cutting corners on cheap products (while charging regular breakfast prices of $8-10 per plate) just equates to unhappy customers that won't return. My husband and I are making this our regular breakfast place. It is nostalgic and we love sitting at the counter. They have all the staple breakfast items and it feels so authentically quaint. The waitresses are friendly and quick service. A gentleman that brought us our coffee and water struck up conversation about some of the wall decor and history of El Segundo. It usually has people waiting outside because it is a small restaurant, but the wait isn't long compared to other places we frequent. They have a bench and chairs in case you don't want to stand or can't stand to wait. All types of patrons. They are only open until 1 on the weekend so get there early! read more

Just moved to El Segundo and still haven't tried all of the restaurants here. So my family and I decided to try this place for breakfast, and showed up at 10:30am. BIG MISTAKE! We had 3 adults, a 6 year old and a 2 year old in our party, this place has like 4 booths and 2 small tables and the counter. Long story short, we arrived at 10:30am and weren't sat till 11:45am!!!!!!! I refused to leave after waiting so long, and were promised a table "soon" when we kept asking. Food was not bad, but it could have been we were STARVED. Offered the kids when we were seated a whole box of crayons and options for coloring but besides that I wouldn't consider this place a "kid friendly" location. Thankfully we didn't need a high chair or it would have been in the only high traffic walkway. Won't be stopping by anytime soon, to many other places that care about their customers and their time to actually seat people in tables that accommodate them so the rest of their customers can have the same. read more

Cash only. Close early. The service is pretty bare bones. These waitresses have been here for A WHILE. The only thing they are more over then that place, is you. So tell them everything you want up front. Sometimes your food is up and they chat with the regulars and refill coffee mugs while your eggs get cold. You will fume silently but say nothing. These waitresses will cut you with their eyes. And you dont want to get a death stare before you eat. The food. People seemed to be really into the benedict with the Wendys "cheese sauce". I am a benedict snob so decided to stay away from the un-traditional approach. My favorite is the cornbeef hash. I am an East Coast girl and they are the first place on the West Coast where I've had LEGIT corned beef hash! YUM. Their oatmeal and fixings are also yummy. You can "Add' things to your hashbrowns, but trust me, not worth it, those hashbrowns need way more seasoning to be worth your time. This was my first time coming to this place and let me tell you...delicious. Simple breakfast made fresh. The place took me back to the 60's. It's very old fashioned but very unique. Everything in here is vintage but definitely a conversation starter. The service was amazing ..the waitress was super nice, we got our food very quickly and it was exactly how we ordered. Such a cute mom and pop place! Came here today for brunch and the food was amazing. I got the breakfast sandwich on a bagel with turkey sausage and hash browns on the side. The hash browns were perfectly crisp and the everything about the bagel was on point. I would definitely recommend this place, the staff was friendly and the food came out rather quickly. Found this highly-recommended place for lunch on Yelp before going to the airport recently. This is a popular diner, so there are quite a few people who come here for breakfast and lunch, especially on weekends. Just note that you have to place your name on the wait list, which is on a clipboard located right outside of the entrance. Unless you have been here before, you will not know this, and if you try to go inside to put your name down, then regulars waiting outside may be snippy with you by "kindly" letting you know where the wait list is for fear that you are trying to cut in line. Ordered the eggs benedict dish, which was not great at all. The overwhelming amount of lumpy hollandaise sauce on the plate was too much. You could barely find your poached eggs under this sauce. This was not an anomaly as our table had two of the same dishes with the same results. Finally, although this is a diner, and diners are not generally known for their cleanliness, the restaurant was not very clean as the dining area. This could have been the case since we were there towards the end of the business hours around midday on a Saturday. Would i go here again in the future or recommend it to others? If it is breakfast, Jose works his magic and no one has come close to the perfection of his home fries. I was born in Inglewood in December of 1973. Wendy's has not changed since I've been alive. The best ham with bone in and eggs with potatoes. Very delicious. The chicken fried steak and eggs is amazing as well. Be sure to check the hours of operation because they close after breakfast. There used to be another really good breakfast spot over on Maple and Center Street. Later on it was purchased from some big rude white guy who was very rude and a douche bag. I was so happy to hear when he went out of business. Then La Paz moved in there. I don't think what I was doing as good as it used to back in the late seventies early eighties on Main Street but I'm glad to see it still in business I need to call it the greasy-spoon. I am huge fan of breakfast foods, so the good reviews drew me here for lunch. Like many people have said, it has that old-timey kind of look and feel. I've gone there twice for lunch and luckily both times it was not crowded at all. First time ordered the linguica and eggs. Second time ordered the chicken-fried steak. Both were delicious and super filling. I had never had linguica before, and I was expecting spicier, but good nonetheless. Prices are pretty standard fare for a diner of this sort. Service is great. Only drawback for me is that the place is cash only. Other than that, love the food and will be coming back to eat breakfast for lunch. read more
