When I walked in there was no one to greet me / take my reservation, so I walked in. Ambiance is like a darker romantic steakhouse vibe. Food was good portion size for the $45 DINE LA menu. Butternut squash ravioli was delicious, but the steak was just okay, there was a sauce on it that wasn't listed on the menu so it wasn't my favorite. There was also a slight weird oil taste on the fries. The dessert said it was supposed to be a butter cake but was more like cinnamon bread. Returned again to West for my birthday dinner this year as we needed a quiet setting for my grandmother, and they also offer complimentary valet parking and are very accessible - my grandma uses a walker so this can be difficult with places that don't have dedicated parking. We were lucky to have Zach as our server again - he always goes out of his way to be accommodating and is so friendly. The food we had was all excellent - I ordered the lamb pops again and a seared scallops dish which also came with pesto rice and a lemon cream sauce - delish! My only disappointment was they no longer have the large variety of tapas on the menu, it had been significantly reduced and most of my favorites from before, were no longer on the menu. The variety of small plates on the menu was a big draw for us before, whereas now it feels much more like a typical restaurant with more full size entrees. My dad was able to order the pork chop dish offered on the prix fixe menu, a la carte, and he really enjoyed it! I have read mix review about the food that the food can be good/ bad depend on which day and who cook it - but the one constant good review is the view of the ocean and the city light. So I thought to give it a try and see the view for myself. We arrived a little late so it's dark already and I can't see the view at all except the city lights. . But I guess today is our lucky day as the food is wonderfully prepared and delicious. I love the 3 appetizers that we tried, so tasty and satisfying. The plump shrimp, tasty ravioli sauce and filling chowder soup. Just a lucky pick. Tempura Shrimp with coconut black rice and sweet chili sauce. Butternut Squash Ravioli with Baby kale, Toasted pecans and Parmesan Cream Sauce. Loaded Potatoes Chowder with Bacon bits, shredded cheddar, sour cream, chives For the entrees, Ginger-Miso Salmon with Coconut black rice and Garlic Spinach. Steak Frites: Chimichurri sauce and Crispy Shallots. (Love how chewy and delicious the meat is - my favorite entrees so far). Braised Beef Short Rib with sweet potato puree, brussel sprouts, and crispy shallots And for the desserts, Warm Toffee Butter Cake with Vanilla Gelato and whipped cream Southern Pecan Pie with whipped cream and caramel sauce. Incredible LA views. The West Restaurant and Lounge is located on the top floor of the Angeleno hotel. You'll be welcomed with a 180 view of LA, even better if you come here for sunset. The food, however, is alright. They have a few items on the menu. I opted for the burger and I'd say you can find better options elsewhere. You're basically paying for a very nice view of LA. Despite a cloudy rainy day, my friend picked this location for the view. Driving here was easy, it's right off the 405, however once I came in looking for parking only to discover that it's valet only. Normally $35 but if you're here for food you get validated for $9. Not free? Why? I really hate the fact that someone is touching my car. Having access to my stuff inside. I don't know it feels weird. Once I got upstairs, the view was very apparent. It's not exactly 360 view but less than 180. It's nice, the seats are right by the window. There were no line and we got to enjoy the entire meal with hardly anyone around us. West is one of my favorite places to treat visitors from out of town for 2 reasons: 1. The panorama view of the LA basin, from the Pacific Ocean to the west, to the Hollywood Hills on the East, is just breathtaking - a fantastic way to showcase the city of Angels to our guests. 2. The food - over the years they've changed their menu a number of times but they always have California style cuisines with an international flair, which I think serves as a good culinary representation of LA. My experience with the staff, from valet attendants to restaurant manager, to waiters and waitresses, has been nothing but pleasant. Since their menus change from time to time, I've leaned to always consult the waiters before I make selections; and this has worked well. I've not been disappointed yet! Lastly for a place with such as superb view, I think their prices are reasonable. They are tapas-style sharable dishes but I thought the portion sizes were not bad at all! I stayed at this hotel--and ate at this restaurant--a few years ago, so when I received an email about their Thanksgiving menu, I decided to give it another try since I wasn't in the mood to cook this year. Honestly, it turned out to be a really nice surprise. My wife and daughters ordered the Thanksgiving menu and everything was excellent--the turkey was juicy, the stuffing was great, and the whole plate was very well done. I ordered a steak, and it was cooked perfectly and tasted great as well. Service overall was friendly and attentive. The reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because of something small but noticeable: I ordered a bottle of wine, and although the server checked on us several times, he never helped with pouring the wine. I don't think he ignored it on purpose; it just felt like he didn't know the proper service for bottle wine. He was very polite, though--just needs a bit more training. Other than that, we had a great Thanksgiving dinner and would definitely return. read more

This restaurant offers a silent happy hour. The first time I came here for the 4:05PM happy hour overlooking the 405, it was really dead. I figured, "Hey, maybe it's just an off night." My friend and I had a round of drinks and a couple of small bites in the silence of the bar. We quietly contemplated the view of the 405 and Los Angeles beyond. When we left at 5:30, two parties had come in. I recently came again with a different friend. Same exact thing: a dead silent hour. We were literally the only ones there for the entire hour. I just don't understand it. This place has such potential! Cool view from way up high, decent drinks, and a nice selection of small bites. Why is this place so deafeningly silent? INCREDIBLE VIEWS, friendly staff. And that's pretty much where the allure of West ends. I ordered a bellini with peach puree, which tasted like champagne with a nondescript fruit. The pancakes were fluffy, but didn't really taste of strawberries (I didn't finish them). The chicken apple sausage had the STRANGEST after taste. This really felt like the complimentary breakfast one would get at the most basic hotel (to be fair, this restaurant is in a hotel). I was disappointed with the meal, but the view really is gorgeous. I might return just for drinks. The other reviews about this place being empty are correct, but I actually didn't mind that. If they improve the food, I bet it would be POPPIN. Here's what we ate as we watched the sun set over Los Angeles: gnocchi sorrentina - bocconcini, crushed tomato, fried basil - pillowy soft and a decent sized appetizer. little gem caesar - asiago, anchovies, herb croutons - I wish caesars were made with the anchovies paste in the dressing as it was originally invented but alas, it is tough to find. I always ask, they too don't include it in their dressing but they do include anchovies on the salad (see my photo). It boosted the flavors tenfold. seafood paella - scallops, shrimp, mussels, clams, chorizo, saffron carnaroli rice, bell pepper, peas, onion - lots of saffron-y flavor, but where's the soccarat? I was looking forward to that crispy burnt rice at the bottom of the pan. It's a good amount of food for one person, definitely fills you up. Pink Champagne Sorbet - I wanted something sweet but didn't want a serious dessert. They happened to have this from an event they had just catered. It totally the spot, I for one would appreciate it if they added it to their menu. The building is the cylindrical tower the old Holiday Inn) that you can see off the west side of the 405 in Westwood. Parking is super easy, you drive up and there's a convenient valet. It's hard to beat the view, the service, and the food at this location. Service was on par for the few days I had breakfast here, and our waiter and servers were fantastic. I would return again just for the food. I had the egg scramble with spinach and tomatoes. The next day, I had the corn flake french toast. The french toast was delicious! It was thick, breaded toast but was perfectly coated and not dry at all; like I find it can be at most other places. It came with a small cup of berries, but I also ordered a side of fruit. All the fruit was fresh and in season. I ordered coffee, and they brought a small carafe to the table, which I found helpful. My friend had pancakes each day, but he said their strawberry pancakes were fabulous. He kept talking about them all day! read more

The West Restaurant and Lounge is newly remodeled and located on the top floor of Hotel Angeleno. We stayed a few days here and tried it during the our stay. On weekday mornings it was not crowded and we just sat down after showing our ID and covid info. Service was friendly, not too much small talk but they could tell we were immersed in conversation as well. I've only tried the breakfast and the alcohol here so I can't speak on the dinner menu. We really enjoyed the breakfast food! I started my day with a latte, expected little but it was really good. The Frittata or scramble breakfast was filling and had a lot of flavor. We also tried the pancakes, açaí bowl, build a Benedict and skirt steak and eggs. In the evening the bar area started to fill up. The bartenders were attentive and served good drink ratio (alcohol to other ingredients that is). Next time we stay at this hotel we will be back to the top to enjoy a meal as well! read more

Amazing panoramic views from dtla century city 405 freeway and brentwood and beyond. It's a unique atmosphere being above the freeway and watching the cars and sunset go by. The atmosphere is quite cozy and doesn't feel too busy or chaotic like some of the other rooftop bars/skyline dining. The food is amazing and quick to come out along with live music on the weekends. After a late check I'm at The Angeleno in LA, we decided to grab dinner at the conveniently located West on the 17th floor. We would grow to regret this decision. Convenience is about the only positive thing we have to say about West (they were able to squeeze us in on a Saturday night). While the ambiance was romantic, the restaurant failed to capitalize on its view of downtown LA. The tint on the glass resulted in a one-sided mirror effect. We ordered a bottle of wine, goat cheese fritters (appetizer), a caprese salad, crab cakes (small plate), brown butter mashed potatoes, and bread. The menu was relatively expensive, but I don't have a problem paying for a good meal. The issue was that none of the food was good despite a high price tag (a baguette and 2 pads of butter was $7 to give you a baseline). We waited about twenty minutes between sitting down and ordering our food, so it was a good thing they had offered music on a Saturday night. The overall delivery of food (post order) was quite timely, thankfully. Overall, it was a $155 meal that was completely underwhelming and mostly uneaten. Bread was a basic baguette, goat cheese fritters were shaped like hush puppies (+ $16 for four of them), crab cakes were soggy and had a lot of filler, mashed potatoes were bland. Caprese salad was probably the best of the food, but even the cheese (burrata rather than mozzarella) was runny, not "creamy" and the bread was very stale. It's likely we ate at West on an "off" night. I cant imagine I would give them a second chance, though, given the price tag and our overall experience. read more

Bar/Restaurant with pretty views in the Angeleno Hotel (17th Floor). Came here on a Saturday night to catch up with a friend; it's a good spot for a date night or one-on-one hangout. You can make reservations online. Valet parking online ($7 after validation at the restaurant). Credit cards are accepted. Bathrooms are available to the left of the elevators when you come out. Masks are currently required. No-tipping policy at the hotel. We had the option for the dinner menu or all-day menu, and the all-day menu is easier for sharing. The portions were larger than I expected, so we went home with leftovers. Food wise: - The carne asado nachos came with a generous portion of meat and nacho sauce (which I loved as it's been a while since I've had some American-style cheese). - The Caesar salad was similarly large and also had a good amount of shaved Parmesan. You have the option to add meat for an extra cost. - The fried chicken sliders were not worth it. The chicken was really dry and bland, and the bread was not soft. - You can never go wrong with truffle fries. - Chocolate lava cake was more individual sized bud you can split it. I really liked the creamy ice cream that came on the side. If you're on the West Side, it's a lowkey spot for some nice views and nice service. read more

02/18/23- Brunch Review. Free valet parking with validation from the restaurant. Came to brunch with my friend at 1pm. I was very shocked at how empty it was but then realized that they close the restaurant at 2pm and then reopen for dinner. I ordered the French toast which honestly was very bland and underwhelming. We have been to this restaurant many times. We love the food but the views are what we go for! The drinks are always amazing and service is phenomenal! On our most recent visit our server was Zack and he was our best server to date. We had our 17 year old son with us and he was the only one under 21 in our family. Zack right away offered mocktails the bar tender could make. I LOVED that he offered that and my son throughly enjoyed both he tried. Our drinks were always full too. Zack was full of laughs and smiles, upbeat and happy to take our picture without me asking. The restaurant is pricey but you get what you pay for. I'm happy to pay a higher price for food when the service is excellent, food is high quality, the ambiance is gorgeous and I'm not sitting super close to the strangers eating next to me. Very tiny lobby and parking area as you are required to valet your car. If you are eating upstairs, make sure you receive a validation card so the valet will be free. It is not too large of a restaurant but the views of LA are spectacular on a sunny day. Service was not the best when we went. Our server showed no emotion, spoke very softly and never explained the brunch menu or the price. Luckily the food was not too bad and well portioned. Had the Yelp check in offer of flatbread and asked for it to be done crispy. In seconds it came out... not crispy. Like here you go, it's free. Had a glass of wine at $15 pour was small. Oh well... Night two was better. Fried chicken slider was ok maybe a touch dry. But tasty. Service was much better night two. Buffalo chicken bites were again ok. I was a guest at Hotel Angeleno so this restaurant was just an elevator ride away for me. They served breakfast so I got some there before heading to work. The service was very slow that morning which is probably due to short staff since we only had one waiter for a couple of tables. I got the croissant egg sandwich with potatoes and they were delicious! But it was so expensive!! For that one sandwich, it was $19... My latest experience was less than pleasant as I was waiting for my food for over 45 minutes only to find out the order never reached anyone in the kitchen. I was told this will take about 30 minutes at which point I could no longer wait. I left and had the food delivered to my room. 20 minutes later, my food arrived, except it was missing the sauce it comes with. I had the Wandering chicken previously and it was delicious.
