I was going to give this place a low review after a bad experience yesterday but I instead called the corporate office and spoke to Tim, manager of this location. Sometimes there's a lot going on under the surface that we as customers don't know about. Of course, employees should be trained to handle situations with grace.. but that's often a work in progress. If you have an issue, I recommend you calling and speaking to corporate because I believe this place is truly run by good bagel guys. And their bagels are too delicious to turn your back on. read more

If you've been in CA for any amount of time you prob know what you're getting with Western Bagel. It's a smaller lighter bagel but I like it. Go there regularly. The traditional with lox is yummy. I like the choc chip danish too. And their cream cheese is good. My only and primary beef with this location is they are frequently wrong with the order. Have reached my destination multiple times with takeout, only to realize there is no locks or the sandwiches are messed up or they forgot something. Calling to get a refund gets old. Make sure you check your order. Also, some of the staff can be a little unfriendly at times, they seem a bit overworked...but then again, this location seems pretty busy whenever I go there, so plan accordingly. read more

You have no bathroom! I was at the Studio City Location on 10/31/2021. 12930 Ventura Blvd #108, Studio City, CA 91604. I was there with my boyfriend around 10:00am and we ordered some bagels and drinks. We asked to use the bathroom, and the woman said it's around the building. We weren't sure exactly where, there were no signs, so I started walking around looking for the bathroom while he waited for the food. I needed to wash my hands and clean myself up before eating. I searched around and around, then went back inside the bagel shop and asked again. They said "the bathroom is hidden, on the outside wall." Pointed me in the direction. I went again, in search of bathroom, and found a door, but required a key to enter. I went back to the bagel shop asking for a key. Western Bagel said they don't have a key. I said "What do you mean you have a bathroom and no key?" They said "it's not our bathroom, it's the building bathroom, you have to find the janitor." I said "WHAT? I need to find the JANITOR to use the bathroom? WHERE ARE THEY?" And Western bagels said "we don't know." "HOW do you refer me to someone you don't know?" Feeling frustrated, I said, "I need to use the bathroom" and left the store. My friend was sitting down with food. So I ran outside, and looked for someone else to open the door. Luckily a fitness shop had a key. However, I could NOT believe the LENGTHS I had to go through just to PEE and WASH MY HANDS. when I went back to the shop, we had food, and there was a LONG line of people picking up food, and there were families, with kids, and dogs, and everyone was ordering food, but there was NO BATHROOM to wash hands or let anyone, ESPECIALLY kids use the toilet! I cannot believe, you would have a restaurant, with NO area to relieve your self. Some of these people who ordered food were online for 20 minutes or more! They were probably picking up food via some app, and probably also needed to use the bathroom before they deliver YOUR FOOD. The restaurant has plenty of space for a bathroom, why not build one? It is disgusting, insanitary, and frustrating to customers to be at a restaurant, where you SIT, EAT, DRINK, and you can't even wash your hands. You claim to be KOSHER, but you should be ASHAMED of your self. Your own restaurant goes against Jewish tradition. In JEWISH tradition, there is a RULE to wash hands before wash meal using a special 2-handed cup. Not only do not have this anywhere, but YOU DON'T EVEN have a place to wash hands, cup or not. I tried to call and speak to a manager but she said it's out of her control. She said I need to speak to Western Bagel owners, because you need to pay to allow customers the key to use the bathroom. You need to be ashamed of yourselves! I will never be going back to this WESTERN BAGEL or probably any of your other BAGEL locations ever AGAIN. read more

Dismal customer service. It's a shame because the bagels are actually decent. This location is staffed by rude, apathetic people who don't even acknowledge customers in line. We came in at 10:30 on a Saturday, an understandably busy time, and stood at our "next in line" spot for 15 minutes. Not one of the 5 staff bothered to even turn around, let alone throw us a bone and say something like, "We'll be right with you" or "we apologize for the wait!" Haven't had a bagel in quite awhile so I was excited to see this location reasonably close to my current place. The reviews from last year were pretty rough but decided to give it a shot. Service speed was fine and the product was tasty... ...but my order was wrong. There were 3 components -- bagel flavor, cream cheese flavor, toasted -- and the young woman got it wrong, it wasn't toasted. Pretty disappointing since toasting makes a big difference. ...the price on the board was $4.30 for a bagel w/cc but the real charge is $5.55 (no tax). The board needs to be updated, even with just a slip of paper. Or maybe this employee rang up the order wrong? ...the employee made change with her gloves on. I watched other employees remove a glove to make change but this young woman either wasn't shown to do so or was shown but just didn't understand that the gloves are to keep the *food* clean, not her hands. She's the one who failed to toast my bagel, too. She definitely needs a bit more training/oversight. Hope your visit goes better than mine. read more

Absolutely disgusting establishment and terrible service. Just picked up bagels, the lady who was cleaning the store helped me - still holding the dirty mop, no gloves. Half the cream cheeses in the fridge were moldy. No apologies - no help to find a non-expired cream cheese. I also asked for the bagels to be put in a box like they usually are when you order multiple dozen bagels. They handed me the boxes to construct and transfer the bagels myself. Might as well get a job here if they're going to put their customers to work. Terrible customer service but the cleanliness is what really drives the 1 star. That is against health code to help someone while holding dirty cleaning material and no gloves. End rant. read more

Great lox, fresh food, great energy and friendly staff. Lots of outdoor seating and in a beautiful shopping center. We went for breakfast over the weekend, lovely weather, watched the Angelino's walk by and the kids loved their breakfast. The menu items are priced well and the service was superb. Quick and efficient staff is what I like with always a pleasant smile. Very important while serving myself and family. Trust me. Best bagel place in California. If you find another, please let me know! What makes the bagels so special? They are fresh and fluffy...oh so fluffy! And the flavors are endless...I prefer the 100% whole wheat everything bagel breakfast sandwich with reduced-fat cream cheese, locks, tomatoe, lettuce, onions, cucumber. I recommend having any of their sandwiches open-faced. They can be very messy otherwise. Other great bagel flavors include oatmeal raisin, and their seasonal pumpkin was great...not too sweet but it did have that hint of pumpkin we all love. If only there were more locations but alas, the only one we can get to is in Studio City...so we usually hit that up for breakfast or lunch each time we go. They also have a great catering platter...something like a bagel platter with all the toppings for 12 people was 75 bucks...not bad at all. read more

Food is always awesome. However, customer service needs to be better. Most of the workers are fast pace and willing to get your order in a reasonable time. However a staff member took my order today and he moved very slow to make my order. From cutting the bread as putting the bread in the oven was slow. It took more than 20 mins to make a simple order, that others in back of me where getting there food first because the staff member who was helping them worked very hard. I stopped here at Western Bagel this morning at 6am to purchase an onion bagel with cream cheese from my husband and a cinnamon raisin bagel for me. Store is walk in to order. Spacing is good. However the woman at counter was not wearing a mask in clear violation of the worker protective order requiring restaurants employees to wear protective face masks in Los Angeles. She had a face shield, open at the bottom, allowing her to contaminate any food she prepared. I cancelled my order and walked out. I try to be extremely considerate and understanding especially during COVID-19 when there is a shortage in staff. But there was at least 8 different employees who just seemed unprepared and the least bit interested in taking care of the guests waiting in line, and were completing ignoring the Pick-Up counter where guests who ordered online were waiting. Tasty bagels.. even if they aren't NY Bagels. Their Everything bagel is certainly better than most as they literally put EVERYTHING on it. I've been to a few places that have higher ratings and for some reason a few of those places think sesame seeds and poppy seeds are Everything. Doesn't make much sense to me. At any rate.. The reason for the three stars is that their help is awful. Lackadaisical attitudes combined with a complete lack of common courtesy is unfortunately the norm. Never ONCE has anyone said "HI" or "WELCOME" or "Thanks for your business!". Not. Once. No smiles, no happiness. Just that look of "I can't wait to GTFO of here. Alway fast courteous service at this location. Unlike other locations you can also get salt bagels. It seems like the other chain stores give you a dirty look when you order salt. Don't dictate to me what is healthy and what is not!! Let me decide for myself. However service was beyond slow at this location this am. They had four workers all making custom sandwich orders and not one taking care of the bagel case. (See below reviews) Not even "I'll be right with you." Or "Sorry for the wait."I noticed the line was growing long and quite frustrated. This is your bread and butter so to speak. This place is not that great and the wait sometimes on a weekend is ridiculous. I only ordered a pastrami sandwich and I had to wait over 20 minutes for it. I'm not a fan of their bagels, too chewy. The few times I stopped to get something to eat, they always had to check and see if they had run out. Even their basic roasted turkey that they advertise, they run out. While everyone works hard, I dont understand all the wait and low inventory. Terrible business. I love Western bagel, is my favorite bagel place. And I will definitely continue to go, but unfortunately very recently they have may the size of their bagels significantly smaller. So small that they don't look like a traditional bagel but kind of more like an English muffin. I would've them rather just keep the bagel the same size and raise the price a bit.
