The tuna salad grinder really did it for me. For 6.50, it was a fat sandwich and just the perfect amount of salt and pepper for a really good lunch. I had never had a Bismarck before and the cream and jelly spread on the insides was a genius combination in a pillowy donut stick. The grinder came with provolone, lettuce, tomatoes, and onions. A perfect and generous portion. They accept both cash and card.

Delicious chocolate chip cookie! Bismarck's are smaller than I remembered. This is mainly a restaurant with a small selection of items available for takeout like eclairs, muffins, donuts, bismarks, cookies, lemon squares and pizza. Parking lot can be challenging if they are busy.

We were looking for a breakfast spot in the area and stumbled upon this bakery. I was surprised to see all of the seating inside, as well as how busy they were. We decided to grab a table. I ordered an iced chai which was good and a nice start to the morning. I ended up ordering an omelet. It wasn't bad but was your basic diner food. Also, we definitely waited a while but I definitely didn't hold that against them because it seemed like they were short handed. The crowds seemed to come and go up at the counter. Upon leaving, the baked goods were pretty much wiped out and we had no idea that once they were gone, that was it. You have to swipe them early and that was definitely a blow considering my fiancé really wanted a cinnamon roll. I guess the baked goods are a hot commodity.

Bismarck was delicious. Super tasty and flavorful. I am not the biggest fan of custard filled things but this was delicious - not sure what the filling is exactly but it is amazing.

I have been hearing about these delicious bismarks and had no idea what they were. I finally had the chance to try them! They are delicious!! Similar to a donut but in a hot dog bun shape with a little jelly and a light sweet cream similar to a jelly donut with less jelly and lots of cream. It is really good! Also got to try a blueberry muffin and a zeppole which are delicious! The muffin isn't too sweet and blueberries are a good size! The italian grinder was very good too! If you visit this place you definitely have to try the infamous bismark!

I was able to stop at West Bakery today and get an Italian grinder and some bismarks. I grew up in Hope Valley and I have always loved the grinders at West Bakery. This was my first visit back since 1996 and I was not disappointed. No place makes bismarks or grinders as good as West Bakery does.

Great little breakfast place, friendly staff, coffee is perfectly made. It's a local favorite so get there early to get a seat and pastries sell out fast.

Went to West's Bakery for their breakfast. Okay, imagine if you going some place where the people cooking the food know a bit about baking and pastries. Let us just say they are passionate and really know what to do with the odd flour, water, cream, salt, sugar ... concoctions. Now, let us just say they decided to take all of those skills and make a step to making breakfast. Yes, you can see it in your minds eye right now. So if you are a pancake fan, you must try these. Also, I had a bacon and cheese omelet. Now normally I would tell you on is roughly as good as another, but not the case. This one was wonderful. Not too eggy, real bacon just made on the grill and real good cheese. The Pancakes were amazing (I had one on the side). The wife had french toast with banana and cinnamon sugar. All were perfect. So the secret is this, they are a bakery. They made the bread before they made the French Toast. They made the English muffin before they served it to me. The made the pancake mix, from scratch knowing the secrets that only bakers know around how to make a flour mixture magic. Then, as you are sitting there in amazement, you remember that you read Yelp and remember something mentioned that looked like a hot dog. So you look around, and you see the display case. There they are, the Bismark. Let me warn you, if you eat this, you will feel as though the universe has somehow changed. Yes, it is that good. It is like a long donut pastry, shaped like a hot dog bun filled with homemade cream and a raspberry jam. So why not a 5 then? Well, they seem to be missing something. I am not sure what it is. It might be my issue. Is it a diner? Is it a bakry? It is amazing and I will go back and see if I can find that thing that is missing. Down Side: Cash or Check only.

It is, however, worth the wait. When I first walked in, I couldn't get over the variety of delicious looking baked goods behind the clear glass display cases. I asked the couple next to me, "how in the world do you choose?" On day one, I chose the ham and cheese croissant as I was trying to get a bit of protein in with my breakfast and I had already decided I'd be back tomorrow to try another. My breakfast did not disappoint. It had the perfect amount of ingredients and the croissant itself was buttery and flaky. The staff is friendly, patient, and helpful. There is seating inside but if the weather is nIce, I recommend sitting outside. They have a beautiful patio with comfortable outdoor seating where you can listen to the birds and church bells. This place is a 10 out of 10 and I can't wait to return! In my book, it is a MUST when you're in Mystic.

The GPS led us to a parking lot, with a good number of spots and Nana's was 20 steps away. They do have a patio with a few tables but because it was raining, we went straight inside. When we arrived, there were only a couple parties seated, but by the time we were mid-way through our meal / leaving, the place was packed. Our server helped us with understanding some of the items on the menu and also warned us about some of the iteme they didn't have, like pepperoni, mushrooms, and donuts. With that in mind, we ordered risotto balls to start and the pesto egg and cheese sandwich (baked fresh eggs, pesto, cheddar cheese, lemon aioli, brioche roll) and Dijon and lemon chicken salad sandwich (slow roasted chicken thighs, lemon aioli, herbs, local greens, pickles, and side of fries) for the main meals. The Yaupon iced tea caught our attention since it has indigenous tea with rotating fruit fusion so we ordered one just to try it. The risotto balls came out a little sooner than the other items. We loved the crispy outside, but not a huge fan of the inside since it was mostly risotto with not enough cheese or something to glue it all together. The sauce tasted like a fancy marinara - it was tart, lightly sweet, but a tad acidic and herby too. In our minds, we imagined our main plates looking differently, but I think it was mostly because we didn't do a good job of reading the menu. The pesto sandwich was good. The eggs reminded us a lot of a quiche-spongey and light. It did not have a strong pesto flavor. The roll seemed homemade; it was good and airy. The Dijon lemon chicken salad sandwich was okay. The chicken thighs chunks were tender, and I could definitely taste the pickles, lemon, and Dijon. I think it needed more salt or even something sweet to balance out the acidic flavors. The bread was well toasted. The fries were delicious with the right amount of salt, crispiness, and variety. The iced tea was not our favorite as it tasted overly sweet which might've removed any fruit flavor. The staff was very attentive, they have lots of tables and high chairs to choose from, and lots of natural sun coming through the large windows.

Donuts are good, baked goods are really good as well. The atmosphere is cute and the service is good. It was a little pricey, which is my one negative. So that means everyone loves Nana's. Which means that, on a very rainy weekend early afternoon, we ended up waiting quite a long time to order and then to get our food but ... I suppose it was worth it (this is high praise coming from someone who almost never believes waiting in a long line is actually worth it). My friend and I split the spicy Caesar kale salad as a starter. I cracked up when I saw "massaged kale" as one of the ingredients. But all jokes aside, this was one of the best kale salads with abundant dressing and, in lieu of croutons, breadcrumbs and cashew parmesan. It tasted pretty indulgent and rich but you can certainly fool yourself into thinking it's actually healthy. I got the tomato sandwich plus bacon (so a BLT without the L) and it was pretty good, though I do wish they cut the bread a little thinner so I could pick it up and eat it as a sandwich. As it were, I just used my knife and fork - certainly more civilized. The pizza was also not bad, though I wish there were some more of the toppings - heard it's leagues better than Mystic Pizza. There are a few tables inside but be prepared to wait. When it was peak rush hour, there were two lines inside, one for the bathroom and one to place an order. Even though they were so slammed, the staff couldn't be friendlier. Our waitress in particular came by often to see how we were doing. Parking lot also filled up. We parked in the Mystic train station and then walked over.
