I came on friday 8/23 around 4ish. My friends and I drove in from San Diego. It was my buddy's bday and he wanted Whataburger. My friends ordered ahead of me and the bday boy asked for a veteran discount. They young man taking our order asked his manager another young man, and he said yes they get a discount with Vet ID. I was elated cause my fav burger joint now offered a veteran discount. I placed my order a triple w cheese, mayo instead of mustard, with fries and a drink. My burger was delicious, cooked to perfections and super tasty. They fries were awesome like always esp w mayo for dipping. Now here's why I'm not giving you 5 stars. The bday boy and fellow Navy Veteran went back to order another burger. He placed his order with a female in a khaki and brown uniform. When he asked for his Veteran discount, he was told he didn't qualify for it. When he told her he got it earlier and showed her his receipt. She said very rudely "he messed up, you shouldn't have gotten a discount" my buddy told her the manager gave him a discount. I came here because I hadn't been here before and I had a promo. The service started out horrible. The cashier said she was ready for me but then immediately was shouting at an employee working the drive through. She came back to me again and said she was ready. I ordered and there was an issue because she didn't know what to do with my rewards QR code. The shift lead helped her out. My receipt printed but apparently my order information didn't print for the crew to make my order. I waited 10-15 minutes before the cashier noticed this error. There was someone seated waiting longer than me and I made mention of this so they didn't overlook him since he had the same error. The manager was there too and told his shift lead that he would go to jail for something and mentioned $100,000 in the same sentence. To me that was inappropriate and unprofessional to witness. This is possibly the worst whataburger in the greater phoenix area. They never put the correct toppings, and the toppings they put on there are minimal. It takes 15 mins waiting in a parking spot after paying to get your food every time, and when you get your food it's stale and looks like it was put together by a toddler. It seems like a bad attempt to make homemade ice cream by blending milk and sugar with ice. I would not recommend the milkshake. You would be better off with a frosty from Wendy's, which is creamier. I work fairly near this location, I'd say probably less than a mile. I went here at noon to grab some lunch on my hour break. The drive thru line was so long that we were backed up into the parking lot next to the location. It took me 35 minutes from the time I got in line to get my food and drive away. That is the reason for the 3 stars. My biggest recommendation would be going to get your Whataburger cravings after 1230 as the line was nowhere near as long as it was when I got there. The food was decent but nothing I remember as my first experience at Whataburger. The spicy ketchup is my favorite condiment and I LOVE all condiments LOL. Enjoyed the experience, the employee in the drive thru was pleasant and smiling. She was very kind and wished me to have a great day. I was a actually surprised with how many things were on the menu. There was a wide variety, from simple salads to basic burgers to gourmet tries. Everything we ordered was really good! We did try to sample as much as possible. Even the sauces (which costed almost $1 each) were good. As you can see I attached a receipt, it's definitely not cheap for the quality of food. Sometimes, when things are hyped up soooooooooo much, the expectation becomes too much, and the disappointment hurts that much more. When I was in the Marine Corps, EVERY SINGLE TEJANO (Texan, for those that don't speak Spanish) I ever came across swore up and down that Whataburger was WAAAAAAAYYYYYY BETTER than In-N-Out, so I was like, OK, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and try it next time I'm in Texas, LOL. So here I was in Phoenix, AZ and to my surprise, the Whataburger sign was on one of those blue highway "NEXT EXIT" signs that tell you what's at that particular exit. Since no one in our party had ever been, we decided to hit it up for dinner on the way back from Sedona. So let me say this in my most humble opinion. Whataburger is NOT A BAD BURGER. It really isn't. But it's just a step above MEH. To me, this burger was the love child of a Whopper and a mom and pop burger with cheese that forgot to melt on. Was it tasty? Tasty enough. Was it great? Most definitely not. I actually had to add ketchup to make it tastier. But then it was more of a Whopper minus the sesame seed bun. The meat patty's were bigger however, and had the cheese been melted, it would have gone from being just okay to decent. The fries were the surprise as they were basically McDonald's fries. Could have used a tad more salt, but that's just my personal preference. Overall, y'all let me down my Tejanito brothers and sisters!!!! Wow I was really kind of blown away in and at the same time relieved to find out someone that is willing to make sure that I am happy as their job, as quoting the manager at the time (4/4/19 7:48 PM) was such a great guy he really was top-of-the-line and really need the Whataburger experience that much of a thing to want to come back to you and feel like you're welcome to and you're going to be taken care of; As they were able to answer all my questions and was able to do it with such charisma that it was a nice change to break up the monotony of some representatives/Corporation's mediocrity. I didn't really like the fact that you couldn't get a plastic cup you have to get a Styrofoam cup, and Styrofoam is so much worse than plastic us; so that really makes it to where they have to lose a point because they were going to get a five out of five, and yet now they're going to get a four and a five, because you always should be able to have that choice, not forced into making a worse choice because that corporation's policies and business practices made it to where you were forced into using such materials because that corporation didn't provide adequate customer service because they didn't have the proper resources to do the job the right way the first time. I definitely want to say thank you and if I ever would be going to Whataburger this is a Whataburger they'll be going to just because of the overall expertise and showcasing of the very adequate professional and top-of-the-line service, provided by the manager, makes it worth making a special trip just to go to this Whataburger over going to another Whataburger. read more
