Came here for trivia night and appetizers. Trivia was supposed to start at 6, but no one told us what was going on and they didn't start until 6:30 so it was confusing as to whether we'd actually get to play or not! The trivia was fun when we played - not too hard and not too easy. We ordered the fried pickles and the fried cauliflower and both were WAY over-salted. I like things salty and it was still too much for me! I'd probably stick to the breakfast menu next time. The service was fairly slow. There is some indoor seating and a decent outdoor space - even though it was hot out it wasn't bad since they had misters and a cooler.

It wasn't very busy when we stopped here for a late breakfast and we had our choice of seating, indoors or on the patio. We both ordered versions of the chicken fried steak breakfast. The steak asks gravy were more proper than I'd prefer, but it was tender and cooked well. Service was friendly and attentive. The restaurant isn't huge, but it's decorated cheerily.

We saw that a band we've enjoyed before, Nina Speaking, was playing at What's Crackin Café, so we decided to check it out for dinner and live music. This was our family's first time dining here, and we were pleasantly surprised! The café is smaller inside than I expected, with maybe 10 tables or less. It looked like there's normally outdoor seating as well, but with the storms that night it wasn't being used. They have garage-style doors that open to the patio, which I imagine makes the place feel much more spacious when the weather is nice. Since seating is limited, I'd recommend arriving early if you're coming for a band or event. Our waitress was super friendly and gave us great recommendations. She suggested the burgers, saying they're juicy and the Monte Cristo. My husband had expected mostly breakfast food given the name of the café, but the menu has a lot more variety. Best of all, the prices were very reasonable compared to most restaurants these days. It was refreshing to see entrees under $15-20, especially for families. They also have a happy hour menu from 12:30 to close, Monday-Friday, with both food and drinks. The Happy Hour menu had a great selection that you could have a good dinner with just those choices if you wanted to. We ordered the Monte Cristo, a 4-topping burger with fries, and a kids' cheeseburger meal for our toddler from the happy hour menu (only $8.50!). She's a picky eater but loved it and even finished the rest the next day. The Monte Cristo was exactly as described, a mix between a grilled cheese and French toast and so tasty. The burger was fantastic too. I loved that you can customize it with any four toppings; we chose a second patty, bacon, cheddar cheese, and grilled onions. The meat was juicy and flavorful, and the fries were thin shoestring style with seasoning. Personally, I'd try them plain next time if that's an option, but my husband enjoyed the seasoning. We also tried the pumpkin bread, which was delicious, super moist with the perfect pumpkin spice flavor. Another big plus: What's Crackin hosts fun events like trivia every other Thursday and live music every Friday. Between the great food, affordable menu, and entertainment, we'll definitely be back to support this local spot!

Came for brunch after golf, what a cute place. They have live music on Friday nights. Will have to swing by. Great service, food was so tasty!! Will be back!! Had the buffalo cauliflower- a must get! Little to no batter and roasted to perfection!! Breakfast and southwest po'boys were awesome and the French fries crunchy and seasoned well!

This place has been on my brunch list for a while, and it was awesome! It's not as big as some places, more on the medium size, with indoor (including bar seating) and outdoor seating(with heaters). We had a reservation for Saturday around 1130, but I don't know if you absolutely needed one. Everyone working was friendly and even let us move so we could sit at the fire-Pitt table. I ordered the Sunrise Mimosa which had tequila in it and was spectacular. For my entree I went with the Fully Loaded Burrito which was good. We also ordered the peppermint mocha pancakes for the table to share and those were incredible!!! They are a seasonal item though so I'm not sure how much longer they'll be around, but highly recommend. This place was fun!

My wife and I enjoyed brunch at What's Crackin' Cafe, a family-owned establishment founded in 2017. They have a casual and comfortable atmosphere with a really nice patio, which is also pet-friendly. The menu features breakfast classics, Benedicts, omelets, burgers, and sandwiches. Popular items include the Monte Cristo, Po' Boys, southwest flavors, and tacos. I love Eggs Benedict, and they offer several options. I couldn't decide, so I went with their Mix & Match, where you can pick two. I chose the BLT and the Country Benedict, which has a crispy chicken tender over an English muffin and a poached egg, topped with country gravy and Nashville hot sauce. My wife did the same but with The Classic and Crab Cake Benedict. Both were served with delicious tater tots, and I must say they were all really good. Shanda said the Bloody Marys are top-notch; they have early bird, seasonal, and happy hour specials daily. Everyone, from the waiter to the manager, was so friendly and welcoming--a really enjoyable experience. Please support them and all our local businesses.

You know I was surprised by our portion sizes in a good way. I expected really small portions due to the portion sizes, but we ordered the American breakfast and the biscuits and gravy dirty style and we had leftover. The food is alright nothing crazy but still good. The service was also super friendly and quick with our food. The theme is kind of beach which is cute and there indoor and outdoor seating. There's also bathrooms that are clean which is so nice! Overall a great experience :)

I really wanted to love What's Crackin Café -- the beachy vibe and fun décor had me hopeful when we walked in. The light blue walls and colorful lighting create a cute, coastal atmosphere that definitely stands out in Mesa. I ordered the Brunch Lover's Casserole, and my husband went for the Ultimate Crackin'. Unfortunately, the portion sizes left us both surprised -- and not in a good way. For the price and compared to other spots around the Valley, it just didn't feel like we were getting much bang for our buck. The food itself was decent, but nothing memorable. I couldn't help but miss the flavor and comfort of places like Eggstasy -- where the portions are hearty and the overall experience feels more satisfying. While the ambiance gets points, the food didn't quite hit the mark. If you're in the area and just want a cute place for coffee or a light bite, it might work for you. But if you're brunching hungry, you may want to keep looking.

Nice breakfast place with extended lunch menu options. The food was delicious and the outdoor patio was perfect for family with kids or people with larger parties .. lots of room cute fire-pit tables. Very warm and inviting a real hidden gem. The waiter was very attentive and friendly which made our dinning experience even more pleasant. Also great mimosa and bloody Mary specials... Highly recommend if you're looking for a fun breakfast place especially with kids.

This little hidden gem is a MUST TRY!! We were driving through and decided to stop in and are sooo happy we did! The ambiance is amazing. It's smaller and more personal. Our server was amazing and kind. He was sweet and accommodating. The food.... The menu.... The deals! Oh my gosh! We started with their happy hour bloody Mary's! $3 for a delicious drink with the finings.... Say less! They were the perfect spicy and tasty! The menu has so many delicious options! We got the mini chimis, the savory crapes were scrumptious and the crunchy tots that came with it were perfectly seasoned! We also had to try the berry stuffed French toast and it was the absolute perfect combination of sweet and savory. The filling was not overly sweet at all. The berries were delicious! Everything was 10/10! I highly recommend stopping in and giving this place a try. You won't be disappointed. We will definitely be back!

I drive by here and it's always busy, so finally went there early morning when it was only few tables. Nice small cozy restaurant with friendly staff. I wanted to try some different kind of specialty dish but decided to stick to traditional simple breakfast. I did laugh at "bite size hash brown" aka tator tots... . Eggs were good nothing special, ham was little on the salty side. Now to the dirty biscuit and gravy. First bite, I was like hmm gravy is bit on the Luke warm side. Second bite, yeah it's practically cold. The gravy flavor itself was interesting. At one point it tasted very plain but then had decent after taste. So I alerted the server and told him the gravy was pretty much cold. He apologized and I told him maybe he can throw it in the microwave or something. As a joke. He took my plate and few minutes later.. Walla... Microwaved biscuits and gravy.. Literally micro waved it. Pancake I liked because it was nice and chewy. Guess if you like your pancake doughy and fluffy this ain't it. Sausage link was pretty tasty. Maybe I'm getting too picky at restaurants but something about having to send back food for not being prepped right, and not having management coming over to say something about the mistake is bit disappointing. Specially after seeing the bill and seeing that sprinkle of bacon bits and some pinch of cheese on top of the gravy was $2.19 upgrade.. holy inflation batman.. . Over all food was OK, not the best not the worst. Maybe if I ordered their specialty breakfast my review might have been different. Hate to rate so low from eating basic breakfast dishes.. But that microwaved return dish made me give 2 instead of 3. I definitely would not come back to this place.

A new favorite breakfast spot! Amazingly delicious coffee and the BLT Benedict was so freaking good! Everyone knows a Benedict is all about the sauce. What's Crackin has some of the best Hollandaise sauce and the eggs were cooked to perfection! My meal came out cold however I still inhaled it!! If it's delicious cold just imagine how much more yummy it will be hot!! My server was great (forgive me for not remembering his name)! He got the manager, Clark, who took care of my meal....which was very kind of him. I am definitely going back and bringing my family to enjoy a wonderful meal!! Oh.....and did I say the coffee was soooo gooood!! Clark even gave me some to take home!!! Despite the cold food....I am returning and tell everyone to get cracking and go to What's Cracking!! I used to come here years ago often, when they first opened and food was great! Today I ordered to go - I was wanting Chilequiles. Service was great, food was not. I got home and was like WTF is this? nothing seemed fresh or homemade. looked like all store bought packaged & canned food. Including the red & green sauc. the Carne Asada tasted like the cheapest chunks of left over steak that was just reheated in a microwave. Now I remember why I stopped coming here. the quality of food changed. read more

See through hollandaise sauce. "soft poached egg" (hard boiled eggs). Staging the poached eggs way in advanced. Tough pancakes?? Staged as well?? Chewy waffles. "Pumpkin coffee" just regular coffee. Was looking forward to a made out of scratch place. read more

Tried this restaurant years ago when first opened and wanted to try again recently when nearby. Nice atmosphere and good service but yet again small portions and zero garnish or presentation. We had a brunch casserole and Cuban sandwich with fruit instead of fries. Not worth the price. Fruit overripe and smashed into small plate. Never again. read more

Once I walked in and the room was so dark for 9:30a on a Saturday morning I begin to worry. We ordered the yogurt which had frozen açaí and the stuffed French toast was undercooked. This was my first time coming to 'What's Crackin', we didn't have to wait long to be seated and when we were it was nice and comfortable seating. Our server was Jasmine and she was sweet, helpful and was constantly coming by to make sure we had everything we needed. The food was phenomenal! My husband had the Nana's Bowl, which he raves about to me and after a few times asking he let me have a bite and boy was it good!! I had the Crackin' Carne Omelet and it was so filling that I couldn't finish it. But it was filled with eggs, carne asada, tomato, onion, and guac. Mmmmmm, so good. I will definitely be coming back! Unfortunately the bartenders pour extremely inconsistent drinks. Both are short pours but one of them was an EXTREMELY short pour (like a 2 second pour). Really ripping people off. Update to Owner's Reply: personally watched from the bar seat the two different bartenders (both long hair dirty blondes) make two rounds of drinks -- neither "used a jigger." Poured directly into the glass. I'm sure video would confirm. The second pour was extremely short. Seriously just a splash. read more

Stopped by What's Crackin' after a long hike. Tried the raspberry mimosa and cucumber lemonade (not really a fan of either), the breakfast egg rolls (YES!!!!), and the breakfast burger on a biscuit with a side of gravy, jam, and Korean bbq sauce. Our server was so sweet answering all my questions and sending out a sampler platter of sauces. If the weather permits, recommend sitting on the patio for a cute vibe and some fun music! read more

Hate coming on to leave poor reviews but would rather save people from spending $70 on an extremely subpar meal. To start out the name "what's crackin cafe" is a terrible name for this place as when you walk in it's definitely more of a dive bar vibe. We came for breakfast and ordered the "Greek omlete", the "classic crackin" and two kids pancake stackers. Our kids didn't even bother touching their meals (which is insane bc kids will usually eat anything), their pancakes were super hard and unappetizing. My husband's coffee was super watered down and lukewarm. Both my glass (iced tea) and my husband's both were dirty and had stuff crusted on the inside of the cup. I ordered the Greek omelet and my husband insisted I didn't eat it as he said "it looks like you'd get food poisoning" if I ate it. The omelet was burnt brown and chewy texture. Super off-putting. Not only was every meal pretty repulsive, but it took 45 minutes at least for the meals to come out. Unfortunately, I would strongly not recommend this place to others. read more

I had the stuffed French toast. It wasn't very good. Flavor was just too cream cheese straight out of the box mixed with fruit. Meh. Bacon and hash brown sides that I ordered were good though. Service was OK. Friend ordered biscuits and gravy and they didn't prep them how she wanted. They did bring an extra plain biscuit though. It was a typical breakfast joint sweating set up. I just tried this place today. I ordered the chilaquiles with barbacoa. Let me tell you. The meat had ZERO flavor!! The appearance and taste was that of meat that was boiled and that's it. There were 0 seasonings, 0 salt, 0 onion, nada. The chips were stale which made it worse. I won't be going back. read more

Seen this place on YELP for months! Friday we stopped in for lunch and was shocked to see it not crazy packed and got a nice seat on the patio. The servers were very nice and friendly they made you feel very welcome. We ordered avocado toast and eggs and bacon and happy we did! The food was very fresh and the server even asked us if we wanted the bacon extra crispy and glad they did because the bacon was very good! We glad we stopped by and for sure will be back. read more

We had a great time at What's Cracking. We had some good cold beers after completing a mountain bike ride near the area.The food was great, I had the Birria Benny which it was very flavorful and was the right portion which didn't make me feel like I was stuffed after. The service was great, our server Callie was very nice and welcoming. She took care of our 8 people table in such a way that we never felt we were waiting for anything. The ambiance was right on point for brunch as you would expect on the east valley, the employees were always in a good mood with big smiles, making everyone feel very comfortable. There are many options in the east Valley for mid morning brunch but we would be returning to What's cracking after having such a nice experience!!! read more

I really Feel Bad for the Owner, unless he is the one cooking. The food is terrible, The Bloody Mary has a real strange taste to it. The fries were cold and seemed soft and the chicken breast cut down to imitate a chicken tender tasted more like fish than chicken. Chicken was so tuff the more you chewed it the bigger it got. Not sure how that happened but it was a bad experience. It was inedible! read more

We had breakfast here and was greeted by a lively welcoming server named Jasmine G She is AMAZING! High energy, professional and knew the menu well and gave detailed suggestions! We say outdoors at a cushioned patio table with a firepit that was so comfortable and inviting. I ordered the seasonal French toast. I typically love all French toast and I'm not even sure what I eating. It was horrible. It looked like undercooked brownie mix with cinnamon. It was mushy and did not even taste like bread. Our server never came back and checked on us to see how our food was or refill our drinks. I would have sent the pile of mush back and ordered something else. Service was slow. We finally went up to the counter to pay our bill because our server was MIA. A couple of my friends and I wanted to try a new Brunch Place that was closer to our area so we decided to give this place a visit! Unfortunately from the get go it wasn't the greatest experience, when we checked in the hostess seemed annoyed which I can definitely understand with such a busy restaraunt. But she decided to show her frustration to many customers and ended our check in with a couple eye-rolls. Our server was amazing though and I wish I remembered her name because she's the reason I'm giving this place more than 1 star. We weren't even sitting for 5 minutes before she came and got our drink order. She checked in on us multiple times even though she had ALOT of tables and made sure everything was coming out in time. Sadly, she can only work as fast as the kitchen gets things out and we waited over 50 minutes even though the restaraunt was starting to empty out by this time. The food was meidocre at best, I requested Chorizo with my bowl but what they gave me was burnt pieces of something I couldn't even taste. There was a silver lining in addition to the server and it was their drinks, if you love mimosas and margaritas this is your place! The bartender is a wiz when it comes to drink making and that made up for the lack of taste in the food. I will try this place again in the future it just won't be any time soon. read more

I tasted the burnt crust which explained the toughness of them. I asked for a sub of ranch instead of mayo. I got charged $1.79 more for it. Both my wife and I fries were soggy. Very dog friendly brunch spot. There is a large outdoor space with heaters. The menu has a lot of options. I got a three egg scramble with some veggies, the country fried steak, and sourdough toast. It's very easy to customize. The breading on the country fried steak was a little too peppery for me. The scramble was great. Went there for breakfast on a Saturday and was seated immediately by a friendly host. Place was fairly busy but the staff was on it. Sat down and noticed the tables weren't that clean but not completely terrible. We ordered the breakfast casserole, a side of bacon and the order of pancakes with a coffee on the side. The wait staff was great and the price of food was also not bad at all. Unfortunately, I was not a fan of the food. I got the stuffed French toast and the cream cheese it was stuffed with was still cold when I ate it. That really threw off the entire French toast. I also tried the breakfast mini chimis, and they were very boring. Couldn't taste any seasoning or flavor, and the side of ranch was boring. Very nice brunch destination. The food is delicious and beautifully presented. The selection of Mimosa menu is large. Huge to be honest. It is also a very nice cocktail bar. I have so far enjoyed a gin and tonic made with Hendricks Gin. An Old Fashioned made with Buffalo Trace bourbon that was almost the perfect Old Fashioned. And an incredibly garnished Bloody Mary. Saw What's Crackin' on Instagram and was excited to try it out. We were a little disappointed. The iced tea is not good... it tastes like Brisk. The Monte Cristo was soaking wet with oil (wouldn't called it fried), and missing some things that make it a Monte Cristo (i.e. jam, sweetness). It was just nasty. My biggest thing is allergies, I always ask. It's crazy to me how I can be so obligated to making sure others don't get sick but a restaurant that specializes in allergies can't. We moved down here last year from Portland, OR and have essentially been looking for this restaurant ever since: a high quality artisan scratch kitchen with good food, decent prices (looking at you, Hash) and bottomless mimosas or priced low enough to be equivalent. We've been to a different brunch restaurant every other week since last June, including The Vig, Over Easy, Nico's Heirloom Kitchen, First Watch, a couple places in downtown Mesa I don't remember, Snooze, this restaurant in Fountain Hills that made a breakfast pizza with hollandaise instead of tomato sauce...I could go on. I should really write more reviews, but the point is that I'm writing THIS one, because What's Crackng is THE PLACE for brunch and mimosas. Full disclosure: I typed this review on Trip Advisor and just copy pasted it to other places. Do I like retyping stuff? No. Do I like mimosas? Yes. Yes, I do. Let's keep going. How was the food? The food is incredible: I had the Monte Cristo and it was a goshdanged masterpiece. My favorite brunch restaurant in Portland has sort of a doughed-sandwich with marionberry marmalade and this one blows it out of the water. I came in a party of three and every one of our dishes was exceptional, from the Benedict to the French toast. Our favorite breakfast spot! From the workers to the owners they are all so friendly. I love how they try different stuff to keep people entertained like a live band or trivia night, it's so fun! They accommodate our large party for when we want to reserve the side patio for a birthday party. With tables and padded patio furniture it's a cool spot to hang out. The food is so good there is something on the menu for everyone. You have to go in and try all their specialty mimosas. I have been coming in since they have opened. Living in east mesa, the food options are scarse and you typically get the same old bar food etc..with the exception of a few restaurants. They are locally owned, make everything in house and they have a wide variety of food on the menu. They also have an amazing bar with great variety of tap beers, ones that you would expect as well as quite a few local/craft beers, and $2 mimoas and $5 bloody marys. Don't even hesitate to go, I would avoid Sunnyside like the plague. What's Crackin is the only place I eat out! read more

Rating: (1/5) I had a very disappointing experience at this restaurant. The food was soggy, and unfortunately, the omelet that arrived at our table was burnt after asking for it to be cooked soft. To make matters worse, the server was unable to answer basic questions about the menu and seemed uninterested in ensuring our experience was enjoyable. They also forgot much of our order, which only added to the frustration. Overall, it was a poor dining experience, and I won't be returning. I hope they can improve both the food quality and service in the future. read more

Our family had brunch earlier this Wednesday afternoon. The place was great! The ambiance was truly friendly, casual and fun! The food was top notch! Order the bacon, breakfast sandwich, mac and cheese! Panama Sunrise drinks are a fav and out of this world. The bartender who is the operations manager was fantastic and needs to be commended for his attention to detail, his amazing attitude and his willingness to please. And we are not easy to please! I ordered a very simple and traditional breakfast... I wanted eggs (over easy), bacon, hash browns, and side of toast. Not a lot to ask for, right? Well for starters the portions were tiny, my eggs were sunny side and not over easy, and the toast was burnt with no butter. Our waitress didn't seem to be too knowledgeable about the menu, and wasn't very efficient when refilling our beverages. The food was delicious, the drink specials were not only cheap, but very good and our server Steve was really great as well. There is something special about what's Cracking cafe and nothing in Mesa beats it. Upbeat atmosphere, people, and environment was much needed in Mesa and it has arrived. Very good breakfast! Visiting for the first time did not disappoint me. It's a nice place to get a good breakfast to start the day. This was the spot! Came here for breakfast after my daughter got off work. What a great place! I had the Ham & Eggs and it was delicious, eggs were perfect. Hadn't had a Bloody Mary in a while so I ordered one. OMG bomb.com really good. Had to try something else so had a Red Sangria which was delish as well. 3 stars because it is a cool little place with good food but it's so expensive. Scottsdale prices in Mesa. $9.50 for 2 sliders with no side. It was $2.50 extra to get a side. It is located in a gated community on a golf course, but is open to the public. We had a reservation for 5 o'clock and were seated immediately. Our waitress Lauryn greeted us with a lovely smile and provided menus. Companion and I both had virgin margaritas, companions with cranberry and mine with strawberry. Both were excellent. While it was restaurant week, we both decided to order off the regular menu. Prices were very moderate for all items which was a surprise. I started off with a complimentary onion soup which while not authentic was a good try at the flavor and texture. It came with a cap of cheese properly melted over the top. Companion ordered the fish and chips which came with some excellent french fries and were cooked perfectly. For myself, I had the Walleye which was pan fried and which had a parmesan/potato covering that protects the fish from the heat and keeps it moist. The walleye was perfectly cooked and a delight to eat. Unfortunately, it came with brussel sprouts which while seasoned properly were undercooked to the point that I could not put a fork in it nor cut it with a knife. Dessert was interesting. Companion ordered affogato which is a ball of vanilla ice cream which then has a shot of espresso poured over it. The ice cream was good but the espresso seemed a bit harsh over it. For myself, I had the strawberry cheesecake gelato, and I found myself in dessert heaven. I've had many gelatos in my life and this one topped them all. Smooth, creamy, and loaded with flavor it was almost hypnotic to eat it. I found out that it is a creation of Villa Dolce Artisan Desserts which is a partner of Sysco Foods. The company produces this wonderful dessert in a 76000 square foot facility located in Glendale, AZ. If I can find a local place that sells the pints I will fill my freezer with it! The fries didn't even have a pick that said gluten free, that was my first weird thought . I waited for her to come back over to explain the situation, she passed us and went to all 3 of her different tables. We watched her proceed to chit chat and make small talk with all these tables. I ask another server to go with pink and blonde hair to go grab my server or a manager. I watched her go talk to my server to be ignored for another five minutes. When I mean she walked right past as I was staring at her to go talk to the other servers at the bar, I was livid. I work at another restaurant, i'm younger but I give great service. My biggest thing is allergies, I always ask. It's crazy to me how I can be so obligated to making sure others don't get sick but a restaurant that specializes in allergies can't. I then asked another server to grab me a manager, our server was sitting at the table right next to us talking to a regular it looked like. Won't even comment on this grown women acting younger than me. This manager comes out first off all looking like he just came from off the line and they didn't even have a dinning manager and comes at us saying " well where's the picks that where in the food? " I told him about the one in the wings and not in the fries, also the wings were switched with flavors. He grabbed the wings away without even taking the fries or my friend's wings with the wrong sauce. He walked away. 15 minutes later another server brings my wings out. Everyone is done eating at this point, I ate a couple and wanted a togo box. My server didn't check on me once during this, nether did a manger. We asked the host for a check and some boxes and she had our server finally come over to us. I went home sick and throwing up because of cross contamination with the fries. If you had tattoos all over your arms, with braids working around 4 on Wednesday, shame on you. Honestly you should be embarrassed how you looked and treated another server girl. I've already contacted the upper management to handle this situation because i'm appalled. The negligence needs to be addressed, because shame on the establishment.
