Finally had a chance to try WIB after hearing many great things, and it lived up to the hype! My fiance & I stopped by on a Friday evening without a resy, and thankfully we were seated quickly. Highly recommend making one though - they were so busy! Between the two of us, we decided on the papaya salad, pad see ew, and the tom yum noodle soup. We were told that the medium spice level would be like Thai spicy - it wasn't. It was spicy, sure, but I think most people can handle this level. I personally liked his pad see ew more than my noodle soup. Maybe I chose the wrong noodle type (thin rice noodles), but they were pretty mushy and broken up within the soup. It was hard to get a good solid piece of noodle. The broth itself was tasty, but near impossible to eat with the noodle mush. My absolute favorite Thai restaurant in NYC. Out of all their dishes, my favorite are: chives rice cake, steamed seabass, pad thai and kua gai. The chives rice cake are perfectly seasoned and so goey in the inside. The steamed bass, is spicy and sour and just so refreshing.. I can eat it all day! The pad thai has a nice texture and the flavor isn't overpowering and the kua gai, always comes out pipping hot and has so many ingredients and is super satisfying. I really can't say enough about this place. Although I do have my favorite dishes, every dish I've had so far has been delicious. The waitresses are really nice and are explain everything so well, the restaurant is clean, brightly lit and the food never fails to be absolutely delicious. I made a reservation for 8pm on a Monday night through resy. I called because we were running a little bit late and they were very accommodating and still held our table. I believe it is a 15 minute grace period. When we arrived, the restaurant was packed! They use a QR code to scan for the menu. My friend and I ordered the pork belly appetizer, shrimp pad Thai and beef pad see ew. The pork belly was very crispy and some were more meat pieces and others were mainly fatty pieces. I had a craving for Thai food this past Saturday. We already have a favorite Thai restaurant that, for us, is consistently 5-star quality whether dining in or bringing it home. Unfortunately, between a packed dining room and a large number of takeout orders, they weren't able to accommodate us that evening. As a result, we needed a "Plan B." To be honest, I didn't really have a second choice in mind, but my daughter had ordered from When in Bangkok before and suggested we give it a try. My wife and I are not big fans of very spicy dishes or heavy curry flavors, and unfortunately many of the entrées leaned strongly in one of those directions. Some may say that means we're not fully embracing authentic Thai cuisine, but our usual go-to restaurant has always offered plenty of flavorful options without overwhelming spice or curry. We ordered a variety of appetizers and entrées, with some dishes definitely more successful than others. I originally wanted wings, but both options featured spicy toppings, so instead we chose the crispy crab rolls and fried pork belly. Both were decent, though I think they probably would have been much better eaten fresh in the restaurant rather than as takeout. For our mains, we ordered the Pad See Ew and the Crabmeat Fried Rice. We added beef to the noodle dish, and that turned out to be the standout of the meal. The beef was incredibly tender and plentiful. Unfortunately, the Crabmeat Fried Rice was disappointing. The rice itself was bland and lacked the vegetables and added flavors I usually expect in Thai-style fried rice. While there was a generous amount of crabmeat, it didn't taste especially fresh. Located on a busy boulevard, there is only meter and free street parking available. We didn't think we would need a reservation on a Monday night for our party of 6 but good thing we did. There was a little miscommunication among friends so 1/2 our party was late. They asked us if they were on their way because they double booked the reservation. The pad thai itself is wrapped in egg. The noodles are perfectly cooked, not too raw/dry like some other places I've been to, and not too sweet (again like some other places). My fave Thai spot in all of Queens! Probably the best place ever if you're craving something savory. They have one of the best services and the staff are super friendly. I also love how they change their decor based on season and it's just such a cozy spot. When they first opened, my friend recommended this place to me. Being that it was most of our first times, we ordered probably enough for 10 people. Some staples to try: - Tom Yum Soup (it comes in the traditional Thai pot) - Crab fried rice - soft shell crab in curry/egg sauce? My wife and I had a wonderful lunch at When in Bangkok. We started with the curry puff to share it's was crispy and full of flavor. For mains, I had the braised pork leg, which was tender, slightly sweet, and super delicious while my wife enjoyed the lamb chop panang, the curry soup had just the right amount of spice but the lamb chops were a bit on the small side . The drinks were a elegant shade of purple we had the butterfly pea jasmine soda which was refreshing and floral, and the rose lemonade that was perfectly balanced.
