Went there on Tuesday and had the most pleasant expierence at the drive thru I have ever had in my life. The lady at the drive thru was exceptionally polite and pleasant. The food was fantastic and fresh! The speedway gas station was one of the most disgusting gas stations I have ever been to but the White Castle itself was clean and presentable! Go figure that the best thing here is no longer the original white Castle burger, but now the beyond slider. It was as if they actually put time into preparing it and making sure the sandwich was puffed up and appealing instead of squished and looking sad. A review of all of the reviews of this White Castle divides into two groups. Those for whom White Castle is a nostalgic memory, and those who are envountering White Castle for the first time. Group A is effusive and enthusiastic. Group B says sliders suck. Both are right. But my brother and I got 20 sliders and brought them back to the house we were renting, and they were excellent. And all were eaten and enjoyed. I found myself in Louisville recently, where I hit up a White Castle at midnight after a funeral and I was the only white person there, in a jacket and tie, and hit up the WC in michigan City during a wedding weekend. I guess we can blame Harold & Kumar on this one, but ever since I saw the movie back in 2004* I've been craving White Castle (WC). Well, here it is almost 14 years later and I finally had the opportunity while road-tripping thru the US on 80. This particular WC is located inside a gas station, which I was trying to avoid; I was hoping for a legit stand-alone spot but we got confused and ended up at this one. Oh, well... No crying about that now. I ordered up a plethora of their sliders, as well as some of these new chicken & waffle sliders they have going. Overall the burgers were garbage. However, I did like the buns quite a bit which were very reminiscent of King's Hawai'ian rolls. The meat was steamed and came out with a grayish hue, and they pretty much tasted like, well, gray. The "fried" onions on top were only fried in the academic sense, a they lay limp and lifeless atop the burgers like festering maggots. These are probably what I'd suggest we serve pederasts in prison for the rest of their lives, but I'm sure some bleeding heart would consider it "cruel and unusual." The C&W sliders too were a bit of a disappointment, as well; the waffles tasted old and the chicken was nothing special. The cheese fries were the only winners of the day, as they are my all-time favorite crinkle-cut fries, which come topped with disgustingly good Velveeta-like "cheese." The service here was surprisingly good and the prices are super cheap even by fast food standards. Do I regret coming here? Maybe. But this is one item I can check on my foodie bucket list. Special thanks to Crissa for indulging me and allowing me to ruin one of our road meals. =) *Yes for the record I know WC burgers are available in the frozen food section, but fuck that shit. For this being a smaller White Castle connected to a gas station, it really wasn't bad! Inside was relatively clean and had a handful of tables to sit at. The lady at the register was helpful and had a good attitude. Sadly, one of the grills was down so you could not order a few things (impossible, 1921, etc.) but what we did get was very tasty and a perfect temperature. We ordered the traditional cheese sliders, a crispy chicken slider, bacon sliders, and a chicken & waffle slider. All of them were great and we had no complaints with the actual taste of the food. Not a fan of White Castle burgers. There is more bun than burger andcthe meat that is there isn't tasty in the least bit. The onion rings weren't terrible, though, and the staff was fairly friendly. I would consider trying other things other than the burger but if you can't nail a burger as a burger place, I can't imagine anything on the menu being amazing. I have a sweet spot for this joint. Tastes better after a few adult beverages, but this is one of the closest ones to West Michigan. Usually end up stopping here when coming or going to Chicago. Plus was that it is hooked to a gas station. They had some new limited time offers since my last visit including a veggie burger and a chicken and waffle burger. The veggie burger you could get honey mustard or Thai chili sauce (in packets). Burgers were way too soft and fell apart when biting into them. Don't think these will find its way back to the menu. The chicken and waffle burger was actually very good. The "bun" was the waffle and features a sweet gravy type sauce. However at $2.50, I would revert back to their sliders. Not a big chain food eater, but this is one of my favorites and probably because we don't have easy access to it. read more

My partner and I were passing through Michigan City and wanted to get some lunch. We hadn't had White Castle's in a long time and the last time we had it in Illinois it was not good. Dare we try the food at this WC? We did and it was great! My partner went inside to order. The vibe inside was really nice. The employees were nice and very efficient. We ate the food in our car. It was hot and fresh and very good. The burgers were perfect. The fries were really good and not too salty. Not time we are passing through MC, we will definitely stop here again. Growing up in Chicago, my mom would buy us White Castle a lot. I remember her ordering a huge platter which had me feeling like Wimpy from Popeye. But after moving around and away from Illinois, these were harder to find. Similarly, my husband grew up eating this in NY and when we both relocated to LA, the only way to get a sandwich was to buy it frozen from our grocery store. Now when I visit my mom and fly into ORD, I drive up to MI so I can swing by to grab White Castle at this location. Sometimes, you just need to hit a beach and sometimes, you just need some sliders and mozzarella sticks to join you in the sand. For the people of Indiana, you can get all of that at Michigan City and it's White Castle. The building itself is fairly unassuming, considering its attached to the gas station. It is clean and the staff was friendly. The food...well, it's White Castle. The mozzi sticks were cooked to perfection: unburnt and no cheese leaking out. The cheeseburgers were the usual quality. For those of us who live in places with no White Castles or beaches, the White Castle in Michigan City is the oasis any Hoosier can ask for. read more

White Castle sells over-priced sliders. They are tasty, but they are radically over-priced. You have to be a lunatic to think that $1.00 is a fair price for the tiny amount of meat they place on their little bun. When it comes to value, they are utterly destroyed by McDonald's. When it comes to taste? Ok, perhaps they are slightly better than McD's, but nowhere near enough better to justify their ridiculous prices. There is a reason you don't see White Castle's almost anywhere. It's because (i) the business is run by morons, and (ii) no smart person would buy into their stupid business model. I've treked here numerous times within a 2 year span and love it. It's always nice and warm, so soft and cheap. I have gotten the crave case on a late night run with a friend. It's worth the 40 min. drive and going on the toll road. YUM. I'm not a fan of the fries though, they're hard and crispy for crinkle cut fries. I enjoyed the onion rings. I know it isn't the first thing I think of when I'm thinking of a good burger but it's in my top five and depending on how much time I have, it's ranks over Burger King and McDee's.
