Maybe that was where I went wrong -- ordering a burrito with a place with taco in its name? My burrito was soggy. Tried this place while walking around in Newport and trying to find some place to eat that also allows dog and got seated outside at the patio and the weather by the beach was perfect with shade. We got the sangria, shrip taco, Chicken Chipotle taco and asada taco along with the street corn on the cob last weekend and unfortunately all were underwhelming. They have the prices of a fancy taco spot like Puesto but the quality of a not so good taco truck. Service was ok...a little on the slow side. Not sure what happened to this place, but it has changed. It used to be packed all the time and the food was amazing. Now it's a ghost town and I bet the service and food are to blame. The food was so good before, now lacks flavor and the fish does not seem fresh anymore. The customer service is awful. Waited a long time just for someone to come and take out drink order. Keep in mind, it was not busy. Finally took our order and we waited again. Eventually our drinks came out with our cold food, probably about 30-40 min since we got there. Missing items from our food, server never came to check and see how we were doing. Then had to go hunt them down for our expensive cold meal. We usually don't complain about the food, even though it was terrible and cold, we just won't be returning there again. Sad, because we loved this place. Here's the challenge with Wild Taco- one night you may have friendly, helpful, attentive service and incredibly delicious food and the next time you stop in get snubbed with snooty bs service and sun-standard food with fermented salsa, old ceviche and greasy chicken (). Seriously have had some of the best ceviche ever here and also some of the worst, all within a few weeks. The last time we were there we walked in at 7:15pm, Google & yelp both listed hours going until 9pm and got an extra helping of attitude from the server (who a few days earlier was super cool) refused to serve us because they decided to close early, even there were several tables sitting and enjoying their dinners. When I spoke to Ernesto, the manager, he could care less. What ever Wlid taco. There are too many other good Mexican restaurants in the area to enjoy.that are just as good if not better. read more

Their yellowtail taco was soooooo delicious that I ordered another in the form of a burrito to take on the plane. However, they ran out of yellowtail and i had to opt for sword fish! It was still delicious, but just not what I was expecting. The lobster taco was just ok and so was the scallop taco. The yellowtail taco was definitely the way to go. You know what would have helped my last review? Their salsas. I never had any put in the bag for my take-out order, and let me tell you: their salsas are amazing and would have helped add that flavor punch I was missing. So, true to my word, we tried Wild Taco again except this time my husband's whole family did a take-out order. They were out of a few things, and I ended up getting steak enchiladas with red sauce, rice, and beans. Enchiladas were a little dry, rice great, beans great, but the salsas were awesome. They have three: milder green, spicy red, and super hot avocado. The hot avocado and red were my absolute favorite. They helped take it up a notch. Everyone liked what they got, hallelujah. Also worth mentioning is their quesadillas are massive and elote best when they serve it off the cob (in my opinion, less kernels stuck in your teeth). We had a little time to kill before our boat rental and stumbled upon this cute place. I don't think anyone in our party was expecting a meal to remember. But we ended up being pleasantly surprised by the freshness and the quality of food we received at Wild Taco. Our party consisted of 8 people, all of us tried a different burrito and each one hit the spot. I had the Chorizo breakfast burrito, it is called something else on the menu. But no matter the name, the taste is unforgettable. The chorizo was light and flavorful. I loved the way they prepared the eggs, they weren't scrambled but instead friend flatly and folded into the burrito. Everything was packed in tightly , keeping it from becoming a huge mess ! They had a few different salsas to choose from. My favorites were the green salsas. One of them was like an avocado dip! So so freaking delicious. If you are ever in the area and looking for some light , fresh breakfast or been lunch you should definitely check this place out. The service was great, the staff was extremely friendly and attentive. And the outside patio was spacious and super cute. You won't be disappointed when you visit. read more

Hm, I don't know where to begin. My husband and I came here off a recommendation from a friend. We started with chips & guac, and they were subpar at best. The chips tasted like they came out of a bag on the sale table at a grocery store. There was no salt on the chips and the Guac was also bland. I got the shredded chicken enchiladas. The presentation was great. The flavor was not. It's like they lost the salt and none of the cooks could find it. My husband got the taco platter. He got carne asada, Al pastor, and shrimp tacos. The carne asada and al pastor were lackluster and flavorless. The shrimp taco was the best of the three, but nothing to write home about. I wish I could say the service was at least decent, but it was non-existent. No one checked on us after our food was delivered to the table. No one offered us anymore water, my husband ran out and started drinking mine. We sat around for quite a while waiting for the check. No one even looked at us so I could ask for the check. I literally had to stack up all my plates and push them to the far corner of the table before someone realized we had been done. Even then, we had to wait quite some time. By the looks of other reviews, the food and service are hit or miss. Maybe you will get lucky and go on a good day, we probably won't be back. read more

When I think of wild taco, my mind could potentially wander with the possibility of that origin, but now with a few visits under my belt I can simply define it as a take on modern Mexican food done right! Tucked away in a tiny nook of the ever challenging traffic nightmare around the Newport Beach PCH on-ramp (hey just being real) sits Wild Taco. Luckily the food is worth the trek or I'd let it get washed ashore for sure. Haha! What I do love above anything is the freshness of both vegetables and the seafood here. I wasn't aware until catching a snippet on their website that they are intertwined with Bear Flag (another love from my previous reviews) which now explains why the seafood is Fresh like the Prince of Bel Air. Wait, what?!? On the appetizer side which has been a go-to "cheat meal" for my wife is their chips+guacamole+salsa. The chips have always been crunchy and non salted which to her is a guilty pleasure. As you can see from the picture they definitely do provide an ample amount and through in the fresh house made guacamole to the mix, well yeah fiesta time indeed! As for me my adventures have been a bit hit or miss, but happily a bit more hit. On my latest I dabbled in the taco combo getting lobster, al pastor, and carne asada. The high point was the meat for sure as the carne asada was seasoned exceptionally well and tender. Their al pastor was again tasting like a true feast and one of the best I've had in the area by leaps and bounds. What I didn't appreciate was the presentation as it made me depressed eating it. My exact words were where was the rest of it because it looks like it was "plated" by a toddler, but thank goodness it tasted amazing or this would be a much different review. Beyond that I can't say enough about this being one of the few places to offer a lobster burrito and a scallop quesadilla. If you're a seafood connoisseur/lover of these two I'll let that sink in a little bit. Haha! As a hint I did try it wet style and my preference was more towards the green sauce as it was a bit more of a rich creamy texture which was a tad more appealing when stacked up to the red. Not many places are on the "worth a tank of gas" list, but with what has come out of this kitchen thus far I wish I could eat this everyday as a matter of fact. A-OK place to visit from time to time. Located in Newport Beach, this is a small little hole in the wall with some good Mexican food options. There are some free parking spots, which we noticed after the fact. Otherwise, you can find meter parking nearby. I had my heart set on tacos, so that is pretty much all I looked at and am not much help on other menu items. They offer meat, fish, and veggie options at a steep price of $4.50 per taco, or make it a combo at a higher rate for rice and beans in options of one, two, or three taco combinations. We both ended up going with two a la carte tacos at this point. I had a lobster and potato/black bean taco, and Steven had a tri tip and chicken taco. While taco prices are going up, especially at creative establishments, I found this one to be a bit steeper, and unfortunately they were a tad on the smaller size, but not tiny. Another annoying thing is that if you want chips and salsa, you are going to pay for it here. I caved and ordered some at $4. Forget the guacamole. That would make it even more. At this point I stuck with my one plastic cup of water that was brought over, and Steven ordered an iced tea. Naturally it was not refilled, which seems like is becoming a major trend at restaurants, because I rarely get refills these days and if I am desperate I will hunt them down. Perhaps I will hunt them down for the heck of it in the future and make people do their jobs more, especially considering people want tips for every little thing. Seeing the pricing on things here though, they probably charged for refills. However, I do not know this to state that fact. My tacos were okay, nothing gave me the WOW factor, but it was not bad. Steven really enjoyed his. I would probably come back still, it's just a little steep for what you get on some selections. I may try one of their other menu options as well. Service was okay. My meal consisted of a carnitas burrito, stuffed with rice, beans, cheese, pico de gallo, and avocado and served with a side of tortilla chips. This burrito was cooked to perfection, and offered fantastic leftovers! During COVID-19, the Wild Taco also serves alcoholic cocktails to-go, and is now officially open for 'dine-in,' with a variety of high-top seating on the patio. Wild Taco is a smallish taco shop by the owners of Bear Flag. I thought it was the type of place where you order at the counter, but when we came on a Friday night for dinner, we were seated by a hostess. We sat at the counter which faces the cooks, and there is additional inside and outside seating but not much. Our waitress was adorable and friendly. The pitcher of beer for $15 is the way to go. You get about 6 beers out of it, whereas a pint of draft beer alone is almost $5. But ask which beers are $15 because if you order an IPA like we did, it can get up to $25. We started with the chips, guacamole, and salsa. The guac was a hefty portion and a nice creamy consistency. I was a fan of the salsa as well. My order was the Pancho Burrito. You pick your protein, and I went with the carne asada. I was glad that I ordered it wet with green sauce on top because the inside was rather dry, and the asada was sparse. My mom had the same burrito but with yellowtail inside, and hers was a lot better. Maybe fish is the way to go. If you want tacos, be sure to order a lot because they are street taco size. I would come back for a pitcher of beer and a snack, but would stay away from the burrito. read more

I will NOT be dining here solely due to the lack of customer service. Expect no service from staff if you go through the back porch and seat yourself. There is no clear entrance, except for the back porch which is more visible than the actual entrance. We waited for about 15 minutes before asking for service, only to wait another 10-15 minutes, but we left anyways due to the attitude we received from one of the staff members. In addition the ambiance was pretty relaxed and boring, so nothing was convincing us to stay any longer. As far as we the food goes, it has a bigger menu than places like Chihuahuas, which is across the street. The food is great, but I still won't go back due to the LACK OF CUSTOMER SERVICE. There are many other places with better customer service and great food. Good food and friendly staff. I love the Baja salad with Asada. Always my good go too. It's light yet heavy enough to be filling for a mid-day. The child burrito is also big enough for your kids. Came here the other day for a lunch meeting and had a great experience! I'm honestly surprised by the bad reviews I'm seeing. Parking can be tricky in the area as it is Newport so if it's the weekend it may be packed. Service was great, food came out fast and our server was really nice and friendly. She was wearing a Bear Flag hat which prompted me to ask if they are owned by the same people and they are! I had no idea even though it's in the original Bear Flag location. I ordered a carne asada taco and a shrimp taco and both were delicious. Love that some of the tacos come with Tommy sauce (Bear Flag sauce!). My only complaint is that we wanted to get the poke nachos and they didn't have them. Apparently they run out of poke pretty often which is unfortunate. Not sure why they can't get a bigger supply from Bear Flag. That's the only negative thing I have to say but not enough to deduct a star. Would definitely come back! read more

I really enjoyed my food and experience here. Ordered 6 tacos: fish of the day: yellow tail, lobster, al pastor, mexi-cauli, chipotle chicken, and tri tip. Shared all of these different tacos with my boyfriend because we just wanted to try everything. We also ordered beans and rice ($4) on the side to go along with the tacos (in case we wouldn't get full) and Peruvian ceviche as appetizer. My favorite was fish of the day: yellow tail (but I may be biased because I really like fish tacos). Second favorite would probably be the chipotle chicken (not on the paper menu but on the white board up front)! Most people say that the lobster and tri tip are to go for but both did not stand out to me. Also not a huge fan of the mexi-cauli (cauliflower) because there was too much beans in there. However, everything was quite flavorful because depending on what you ordered, they would put toppings on the taco (salad, corn, black beans, bell pepper, etc) and different types of sauces to accommodate to the choice of taco. HIGHLY RECOMMEND THE PERUVIAN CEVICHE. A few vegetarian options: tofu, feta and kale tacos, and mexi-cauli. Chill vibes -- seems like a cool place to hang out where friends eat tacos and drink alcohol. There are specials depending on the day of the week. Lots of metered parking around the area and service was good (attentive). (Side anecdote): It was so funny because when we sat down, one of the workers came up to us and literally said "chips and guacamole? or salsa?" My boyfriend and I thought it was on the house (included with your meal) so we said guacamole but we looked at the menu and it was $8. We had no idea because it was our first time here and usually the workers would give us a chance to look at the menu before asking us a nonchalant, casual question like that seeming like it was on the house. We had to run back to the worker and switch it to Peruvian ceviche because that seemed a lot more appealing to us after seeing the price for chips and guac (haha).
