New kid on the block, coming in Hot! Wilder, which occupies the old Philadelphia Academy of Social Dance building, is now a 3 story restaurant dishing out really yummy eats. The restaurant has the cutest decor from the large marquee sign on the outside, to their green velvet sofas, mismatched chandeliers and Persian rugs on the inside. The food is so good. Not one bad thing about anything I had! The usual suspect cocktail (gin base) is nice, light and earthy. For a boozier option, go with the antique showcase (bourbon base) which sort of taste like an old fashion but is slightly more bitter. The sweet & spicy pizza is just that. The soppressata gives off the perfect amount of heat, and then the sweet onion and honey balance that with a touch of sweetness. The roasted half chicken and the mafaldine alla vodka with lump crab were the showstoppers of the night. I've never had an alla vodka pasta like this, it was truly one of a kind and they did not skimp on the crab. For the chicken, the truffle jus was perfection, and the maitake mushrooms served on the plate add a nice textural component to the dish. Last but not least, the dessert. If you haven't been here already, you're missing out. There are good reviews for a very good reason. I'm not a huge fan of pizza and pasta, but Wilder has changed my mind. The donnie Brassica was a journey in and of itself. Each bite was different in flavor and texture in the best way. I wish I could describe it better, but this is something you just have to try. The Mafaldine was delicious with HUGE lumps of crab. The pasta was perfectly cooked and sauce was delicious as well. The Seafood Grille wasn't quite my favorite, so I think you can skip out in this one, but I'm sure the other entrees are delectable. Last, but not least, the dessert was perfectly sweet, light, and fruity (I believe we chose Blueberry Crisp, Peach, and Yuzu flavors). As for staff and ambiance, both were fantastic! I couldn't wait to get home to write this review lol! My fiancé and I wanted a new place to try and I suggested Wilder. I love all the Schulson collectives so I had high hopes for Wilder and it did not disappoint! Upon walking in, I immediately thought "how cute is this place?!" I loved everything from the barstools to the velvet booth seating! We were sat upstairs and there was no one there besides us (at 5:15pm) so that was nice! Our waiter Brian was a pleasure! He was friendly and served us well. Our waters were always filled and he was just great. Everyone was so attentive but not annoyingly attentive. For food we ordered: Oysters, carrots, malfadine alla vodka & the rigatoni bolognese. I loved every dish we ordered, but I must add that the bolognese sauce was a little too runny for my liking- the flavors were good nonetheless. The malfadine was so good! I ordered that because of everyone's reviews and I am glad I did! For dessert we ordered the Yuzu cheesecake and they gave us a complimentary dessert for our anniversary! A raspberry & peach sorbet. The Yuzu cheesecake was SO FREAKING GOOD omg. I literally will go back just for that. We were SO full from our entrees but the dessert was sooooo good. I can't wait to come back and try more! Wilder is a truly immersive dining experience - from the moment we entered through the oversized, jewel-toned door, we were charmed by every detail, from the lush, Persian-style rug accents, to the dizzying array of patterns and colors (the tiles! the beautiful upstairs bar! the beautiful skylight filled with plants!), to the friendly, attentive service and each well-crafted and creative dish we tried. We shared the spicy tuna toast starter, the al pastor pizza, and the beet and goat cheese ravioli, all of which were delicious. Frankly, the menu had so many delicious-sounding options, we had a really hard time narrowing it down - and we understood why so many of our fellow diners opted to come in groups! The ravioli was decadent - a little sweet, with a silky sauce and a little zing from the poppy seeds. And in a city with many, many good pizza spots, Wilder's al pastor pizza still stood out with a fantastic pizza crust and fun flavor profile. (I never thought I'd like pineapple on pizza, but this pizza changed my mind.) The desserts all looked fantastic as well. We shared the bombolini, which were light and just delightful. Our server was also wonderfully attentive, and when our spicy tuna starter accidentally ended up at someone else's table, he noticed something was wrong and addressed the delay. I will say that given that we were provided with 90 minutes for the meal (which I usually don't mind), we did start to feel the time pressure due to the delay - they tried to clear our plates while my dining partner was literally still holding a pizza slice in his hand. Overall, our meal came out to ~$80 for two before tax and tip, and we were so full, we probably could have done without the starter. I came here a while back for my birthday but have been meaning to write a review for some time since the food is that good. The pull apart dinner rolls are an absolute must. It might be super expensive for some bread but it has lived in my mind rent free since then and would consider coming back just to eat it. Perfectly soft and the flaky sea salt perfects it. What enticed me about this place was the rotating seasonal menu and the interesting pasta combinations. The duck pasta was my absolute favorite (please bring it back!) with great flavor. The uni pasta was good, but the shrimp was small and overcooked which was a bummer. Overall flavor profile was pretty good typical seafood pasta. Really liked how they topped all their pastas with breadcrumbs as well, it made great texture. Lastly my friend ordered the margherita pizza which was good, but would probably prefer ordering pizza elsewhere personally. The service was great and the waitress was attentive. They gave a free drink for birthdays which was nice. The restaurant itself is pretty nice and a bit dark inside with nice lighting. Overall would recommend, do get the pasta and the bread! read more

Situated close to Rittenhouse Square, Wilder offers a great menu featuring a nice mix of pizza, seafood, pasta, and a raw bar. The build out is beautiful, think plush banquette seating and leopard print bar stools. The cocktail and food menu is seasonal and features local ingredients. The steak tartare is well done with egg yolk, cornichon, horseradish, and mayo served with a side of crispy, light, house made potato chips. We also had the beets and burrata. The plate was stunning with beautifully sliced radishes adorning the greens that covered a wealth of beets. The burrata was creamy and delicious. Another standout was the Spanish octopus. It's charred and features eggplant purée, olive pesto and lemon. All three dishes were delicious, but I think the octopus was my favorite. While we didn't have a pizza, the tables on either side of us did and raved about how amazing it tasted. The wine by the glass list is small, but covers most bases. Prices per glass were reasonable and the bottle menu was much more extensive. Additionally, they feature a bottle of the night. Service at Wilder was top notch. Definitely a professional waitstaff that knows how to take care of patrons' needs without being overly obtrusive. We recently moved to Philly and Wilder has become one of our favorite restaurants in downtown. Whenever we can't decide where to go or are too lazy to research a new place, we always go to Wilder knowing that it's going to be a great experience. EVERYTHING (that we have tried so far) is so good and service is always outstanding. Here are some of our favorites:   Sweet & Spicy Pizza (5/5) -  We order this every time and just can't get enough of the rich flavors. It has the perfect blend of spiciness from red pepper flakes, sweetness from honey oil, saltiness from peperoni and sausages, and freshness from tomato sauce and basil. This is a must try!!!   Foie Gras (5/5) - My husband isn't typically a fan of foie gras but this is an exception. Wilder's foie gras mousse is melt-in-your-mouth smooth and the buttery flavor is perfectly complimented by the sweetness of the peach gel and crunchiness from the almonds and celery. Another dish with layers of flavors.   Pull Apart Rolls (5/5) - Who knew appetizer rolls could be so good!? The outside of the rolls are little bit crispy, buttery, and there is even a hint of sweetness (maybe they drizzle some sugar before baking?) and the inside is super soft. We were so excited to finally try Wilder after passing by it so many times and we are sure glad we did. The ambiance was beautiful and service was amazing. We unfortunately were seated right under a large rowdy crowd in the bar so it was way too loud. We started off the the Spicy Tuna toast which was so good we gobbled it up before snagging a pic. It was surprisingly spicier than I expected. We then got the Sweet and Spicy pizza and omg, it was insane. As someone who doesn't even like Italian meats, this was the perfect combo of all flavor Combos. It was spicy yet sweet, salty yet scrumptious. Do not skip out on this! We had so much fun eating the Mafaldine pasta because of the crazy long noodles! The sauce was delicious and pasta was cooked perfectly Al Dente. Through the lobster was ok (I personally don't like seafood with pasta) I would have loved to eat this with a different type of protein like steak or chicken. The lobster didn't seem to hit with me. If only I had the pictures to show what I'm about to express (lol). This place did not disappoint, and for a Wednesday night, it was very lively! We started with the roasted oysters and green salad. Both were delicious; the oysters were super flavorful and not heavily coated, and the salad was zesty with the right amount of dressing. Next, we had the sweet and spicy pizza. OMGG, my mouth waters just thinking of every bite. Being from NYC I am very particular with my pizza, but this place knows what they're doing. We ordered delivery and the delivery was rather quick. The steak was good, maybe a bit in the rare side but better that than overdone. I called the rest specifically to ask if the roasted oysters or the mafaldine ala vodka were spicy, and the person who answered the phone said the oysters weren't spicy at all. Well, they were, and I cannot tolerate spiciness, so that was a waste. The steak was supposed to have a bordelaise but came with what looked more like a brown gravy. It had a little kick to it but was acceptable. And the chimichurri sauce that also accompanied the steak was good. The pasta seemed to be spicy as well. I did not eat it and when I lifted the lid, it smelled a bit fishy. There is crab in it. Fish should never ever smell fishy. The bill was 144.00 with delivery and tip. A high price to pay for mediocre cooking. Not sure why so many reviews here gave this place 4 stars or more. The pull apart bread was fine but salty and the flour was such that the rolls just flattened when biting into one. Seemed like cheap flour. Last item was the salad and at least the lettuce was fresh and no black or wilted pieces in it. 12.00 a bit high for a dish of lettuce with a few radishes. Sorry but I was not impressed. Better to pick up some premade food at the nearby Giant grocery store! read more

Uber driver turned onto a side street and I saw a large illuminated sign with the restaurant name WILDER. I was confused what door to use to enter the restaurant. I walked up a few steps and opened the door to a nice bar area. I looked to the right and saw the greeter and had to walk down about 3 steps ( inside) to meet the greeter. The decor is cool with beautiful chandeliers and green seating. The waiters wear green T-shirts with WILDER written across the front. Started off with a cocktail (UNPROVEN ALGORITHM ) and the pull apart rolls with honey butter. The cocktail was light and refreshing and those rolls are a must have! I was torn between two pasta dishes (MAFALDINE ALLA VODKA or SPINACH CHITARRA ALLA VONGOLE) so I ordered both. Both were good but I preferred the mafaldine pasta dish. The water served smelled so bad, it could be the smell from the glasses? The Maitake Breakfast Sandwich didn't have enough Maitake, maybe enough for 2-3 bites. The chips that came with it tasted homemade and I really liked them. The Black Bass Tartare was refreshing but not worth the price. The Chilaquiles wasn't bad at all. We came here on a Saturday for a quick bite to eat and were able to be seated immediately. The drinks were quite nice although nothing to write home about. They're unique in flavor, but I don't think I would get drinks here again as I didn't find anything special about them. My first time coming to Wilder was so delightful! I came with family and friends who all had a nice time too. Our server was knowledgeable and gave insightful suggestions for what to get. Came here on a Friday night with a friend. Had to make a reservation a few days early because this is a popular spot. Cool ambiance that you wouldn't expect after you see a large neon sign that vertically says "WILDER" outside. We were taken upstairs to our seats. The cocktail menu is pretty limited, but we both ordered the Dad's Favorite that was good, but I'm not sure why it is priced higher than the other drinks on the cocktail list. For our meal, we started with the Margherita Pizza which was light and flavorful - above average Margherita. We were both still hungry so decided to check out the Sweet and Spicy Pizza that our server recommended in the beginning and wow! This was a really good pizza. I came here with my fiance and a friend from out of town, and we wanted to make sure we were taking her somewhere really interesting with good food, and Wilder's menu really jumped out at us and absolutely did not disappoint. The menu is truly a mix of New American creativity and Italian classics, with a lot of different pizzas, pastas, salads, and some interesting appetizers. Most notably, I really enjoyed the pretty extensive mocktail list along with their great usual cocktails and wine/beer list. I wish I took a picture of mine! But my mocktail Doctor's Orders was really delicious (honey, ginger, lapsang souchong). We also split the hanger steak salad (fried squash, pickled onions, pumpkin seeds, farro, manchego, salsa macha), the donnie brassica pizza (broccolini, rapini pesto, kohlrabi, ricotta, cherry peppers, provolone) , and the braised duck casarecce pasta (marsala, hazelnuts, maitake mushrooms, duck jus). Everything turned out amazing; the pasta and pizza was flavorful and just perfectly done, and I'm not normally a salad person but even the salad was delightful. It was the perfect amount of food to split in between three people and we left feeling really satisfied with the pricing and portions. I think my personal favorite was the pasta, the duck was so tender and the mushrooms were so savory; the sauce was out of this world. The ambiance inside also is unmatched, the decoration and design of the restaurant is so cute and sure to impress anyone. Service was prompt and amazing, we spent a lot of time just chatting and catching up and never felt rushed and the food came out pretty quickly.
