All the rave on IG but does not live up to the hype. Cocktails were underwhelming - no different than any other so so restaurant. Bread arrived warm on the outside and cold on the inside. For a spot that is also a bakery it was quite disappointing that we would have bread out of the fridge or freezer. They replaced it but it wasn't much better. The grilled cabbage appetizer that was supposedly a hot item was bland without much flavor and had piles of Parmesan on top to cover up the blandness? It would have benefited from a more complex flavor profile. The salmon was over salted and terribly over cooked. Also worth mentioning it was a super small filet for $39. The pea pesto was tasty but needed to be more creamy. For this price point I expected more than just a small salad plate that didn't have anything more than the filet and pesto. The sausage pasta only had a little heat going for it - any other seasoning was unnoticeable and nothing more than what I can do in my own kitchen and could even do better. This place does not compare to its sister restaurants (Campfire and Jeune et Jolie). Definitely not worth the price point and a huge disappointment. Would have much rather spent my money at a hole in the wall that served complex flavors and undeniably satiating dishes. read more

Had to come try this place because I really enjoyed Campfire and Juene et Jolie. The restaurant was quite spacious and very open but a tad bit dark. Service was very good, quick and efficient. There were some hit and misses with the food. The charred maitake mushrooms were delicious and I enjoyed the mixture of the Parmesan cheese and mint. The smoked fish plate (olive oil poached yellowtail, charred octopus, and hot smoked pastrami kampachi) only tasted whatevers and wasn't anything special. The bucatini pasta was my favorite of the night and it was very refreshing and light with the Meyer lemon taste. We also ordered the Nduja pizza but felt like it was lacking something and just didn't fulfill my taste buds. I'm not much of a lamb person but the lamb meatballs were yummy and did not taste gamey. The sauce was excellent for bread dipping as well. The roasted clams were a tad overcooked and chewy. We ended by ordering all 3 desserts on the menu. My favorite was the olive oil semolina cake which was light and not overly sweet. The pistachio tiramisu and chocolate-buckwheat tart were both also very enjoyable as well so you can go wrong with any of those three desserts. Tried Wildland -- shareable menu, so plan to order a few dishes. Old Fashioned had a nice coffee twist but leaned a bit sweet. The rosemary ciabatta was a standout (great texture and flavor), while the sourdough was just solid. Burrata with broccolini was excellent -- perfectly roasted and balanced. The crudo looked great but tasted average. The margherita pizza was surprisingly good with a slightly sweet tomato flavor. Salmon and pork chop were the highlights -- both cooked perfectly, especially the pork chop (super moist and tender). Gnocchi/dumpling dish was rich and comforting. Chicken was good, but the sauce stood out more than the meat. Finished with a lighter, airy tiramisu that was unique and not overly heavy. Overall, creative dishes, solid execution, and definitely worth coming back. read more

Full disclosure, I have been avoiding Wildland due to the mixed reviews. There are just so many other really good places to eat in NoCo, so why waste a meal on a maybe? But, a friend wanted to try it and thank goodness she did because our meal was SO GOOD! We arrived for a 5 pm reservation on a rainy Thursday and it was pretty dead. We were greeted and sat quickly. The interior of the restaurant feels very nature forward, lots of wood and soft lighting. It's very pretty and feels a bit on trend. We were provided the daily menu and drinks list by a very nice waitress. First, the Miami Vice. I have no idea what a "milk punch" is but this drink was deeelish. Not too sweet, a bit summery, and definitely an island vibe. I want a do-over of this drink or 3 on a sunny day on the patio! Then we ordered the olive focaccia and the beet salad to share. The olive focaccia was insanely good, warm, chewy but not too chewy, spongy, with the tangy briney-ness of the huge olives and subtle herbs and dipped in a lovely balsamic and fruity olive oil mixture. I dream of this wonderful warm bread. The portion was quite large and we had some left to take home. The beet salad looked like a work of art, bright, colorful, crisp and sweet. The little dollops of hazelnut aioli were creamy and wonderful and the sweetness of the raisin was a nice compliment to the earthiness of the beets. The presentation was beautiful. Next to the Njuda pizza. Ok, don't take this the wrong way, but the first bite brought back childhood memories of a pepperoni totinos pizza in all the best ways! For me, the spicy sausage was what made me think of that. It was heaven and the sage and ricotta and red onion and fennel all worked perfectly together, and the crust was amazing. I could care less about pizza crust usually, but this one was the perfect texture, bite, and chew meaning it took just the right amount of effort. The mushroom agnolotti was also delicious, creamy and earthy with large mushrooms in the warm sauce along with the delicious pasta pillows filled with a creamy and citrusy punch and crunch of the pine nuts. I didn't really get the goat cheese flavor that I was expecting but definitely was pleasantly surprised with the unexpectedness of the other flavors and textures hiding inside. The timing between the dishes seemed long, but the staff was very nice and helpful. We did check out the dessert menu but were too stuffed to partake. Wildland was lovely! From the moment we walked in, I was struck by the trendy atmosphere. There was plenty of space to spread out. They even have a separate room available for private events - perfect for those special gatherings. I started with their breakfast sandwich, which was an absolute flavor bomb. Every ingredient sang in perfect harmony, and you could tell they use quality ingredients. My friend tried their pizza sandwich, served on the most perfectly soft, pillowy bread. What really set this place apart was the exceptional service. When we ordered a sandwich and mentioned we wanted it without pork, the manager personally came to our table to suggest avocado as a substitute - talk about going above and beyond! Only downside is it's a tiny bit pricey, but that is to be expected for the ambiance and ingredients. Will I be back? Absolutely. This gem has earned a spot in my regular rotation. Dinner Review: We got the the restaurant with reservations and immediately were seated. Very nice. It is a big open style restaurant with hard floors, high ceilings, and the noise from every one is kinda loud. I forgot my Loop Engage earplugs. Darn. Wildland is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and have different menus for each. Dinner is sit down and get served, traditional. They have a menu with pastas, pizzas and dinners. While some reviews state the restaurant is all organic, I don't think it's true. The pizza dough and bread is made in house. And they seem to have fresh and healthy ingredients. We ordered a salad to share and two different pizzas. The salad came in under ten minutes. We got the A Very Green Salad. It is very lemony and flavorful. We ate the whole thing. Their wood fire pizza oven produces four different pizzas, based on their menu. They are popular. Their oven fits 12 pizzas max. So it might be a wait if the crowd is ordering lots of pizzas. We got our pizzas about 35 minutes after ordering. So I imagine the pizza oven was backed up. So while we were waiting for the pizzas, we chatted. The pizzas came out terrific. Their crusts are excellent. Wow. If we weren't eating pizza, we would have ordered the bread. It must also be delicious. The pizzas came out hot and tasty, the heirloom tomatoe pizza is different, as the cheese and tomato seemed to be added after cooking. The cheese was cool. Interesting. My boyfriend liked his Nduja (spicy sausages) pizza. But the pizzas are pretty big and we could have shared. We ended up taking lots of pizza slices home. Came here with my friends to celebrate their birthdays. It's right next to the car wash, just in case you miss the sign. There's street parking or walk a block away and park behind the Campfire - it's free parking. The decor was simple and at night, they really dim the lights but it's great ambiance for date night. We made reservations but you can just walk in. When we went on a Wednesday night, it wasn't so busy but by the time it was around 630pm, it started to fill up. You get greeted and they give you time to look over the menu for drinks and food. Our server Tanner was patient with us cause my friends and I are chaotic. Hahah, in a fun way. In any case, my friends ordered three drinks and it was all delicious. We waited for our meals and they came close to each other so our table got crowded. But we were okay with that. We ordered the very green salad and it was enough to feed four women who over ordered. It had a lot of crunch, and it was dressed nicely - the dressing was evenly distributed, which I appreciated. We also ordered the sourdough bread, while the bread was good, the star of that plate was the butter. We ordered the six item smoked fish platter - basically one of each item (smoked salmon, marinated anchovies, steelhead gravlax, olive oil poached yellowtail, charred octopus, and hot smoked pastrami kampachi. If you like smoked fish, you should get this because this was delicious. They give you a plate with bread, I think sour cream, red onions, capers, cucumber slices and tomato slices and you just make yourself a small delicious bite. I loved it. I could have just had that for dinner. I loved all the different flavors and textures. Highly recommend. We also ordered two pastas: mafaldine - a little spicy kick, a little garlicky but very flavorful. Loved that the sauce stuck to the noodles. Bucatini - simple, buttery and lemony. It was very good. Just FYI - the pasta portions is enough for one person so don't expect a huge portion. But it was still enough for four people to share. We also ordered the wild pizza and it had a slight kick to it and the added arugula gave it a nice fresh crunch to it. The bread was thin and the crust was pillowy. It was delicious. And finally we ordered the pistachio tiramisu. My friends loved it. I unfortunately didn't care for it. It's my palette, I just don't like the orange blossom flavor. But again, my friends loved it. But I don't have any complaints about the meal. Everything we ordered was delicious and it's just a nice place to go to. We do plan on going back because there's more to try. Came to this place after walking on the beach with friends. We were lucky that we snapped a parking in front of the restaurant. This place is huge, has a lot of outdoor and indoor seating. Everyone has to ordered their food at the front cashiers counter. We ordered the smoked fish platter, a salad bowl and two pasta dishes. The smoked fish was delicious but the two pasta dishes were just so so, nothing that made us feel excited, and their portions were extremely small. Three of my friends needed to relax so they ordered cocktails, and they all complained about lack of alcohol in their drinks and one of the drinks also had too much crushed ice. However, my olive oil honey latte was decent. We couldn't skip the dessert, so we ordered chocolate walnut cake, date cake and tiramisu, but unfortunately nothing really stood out for me, especially the crust of the date cake was so hard, it was impossible to chew on it. The chef is trying way too hard to be groovy and the food suffers. Sourdough bread app was good but the bread wasn't airy and the crust too thick and bordering on tasting burnt. Excellent butter. The six smoked fish platter was weak. Sounded great though. Best was the smoked salmon. The rest of the fish had textural issues but worst was the octopus which I was so looking forward to, was charred to the point that it tasted bitter and burnt. The herbs and vinaigrettes that accompanied the other choices were overpowering. The pastrami fish was very dry. They gave us a complimentary fresh agnolotti soup as we were celebrating an anniversary with friends. That could have been a perfect dish. The pasta was amazing but again, overdoing it with the fresh herbs to the point that was all up you could taste. The meatballs were just ok. The nduja pizza sounded amazing but was way way too salty. The guanciale pizza was also salty but the arugula cut through that so I enjoyed that more. No room for dessert. The NA drink called flowers was really tasty. They served a gin and tonic just on the rock with no twist of lime - weird. Odd glass for the margarita too. Gave us a complimentary little champagne toast which was a classy touch So it is a cool, happening place with great servers but the food just wasn't doing it for us so this is a one and done unless the menu evolves. Went here a couple weeks ago and the BLT was amazing. The chopped salad and dressing was perfect. The cheese pizza a little wet but tasty. Paired it with a beautiful hazy IPA. I tell you it was the best meal I've had in ages. The staff was great and the inside outside space just my cup of tea. I live in San Diego so it's a bit of a drive but I was eager to get back and share this jewel w friends and family. Unfortunately the return was a little disappointing. First off they no longer offer the BLT. The replacement ham sandwich was mid at best. The kids pizza was bready and they forgot to put pepperoni on it. But instead of remaking the pizza they just place the pepperoni on top and returned it room temp. The chocolate cake was delicious though. And the salads were just as good. This is the nicest Panera bread I have been to. The place is pretty and a nice place to hang out and look at dogs. Ordered a pizza sandwich for about $20, and it was very doughy with no crisp at all. The main flavor was overwhelmingly pesto, it covers up the mortadella and other cheese. I didn't like the wide gap in our food being brought out. The doughy pizza sandwich was no longer warm while we waited for the chicken salad sandwich to get brought to the table. I have been to Campfire, which I enjoyed. We heard that the same owner opened this place, so we came on Sunday afternoon to check it out. The place is beautiful and spacious inside. They also have some outdoor seating, which is where we sat since we had our dog. There are not many shades, so in the summer, it will probably get a bit too hot, so hopefully, they will get some cover. My husband ordered a breakfast sandwich and opted for bacon instead of sausage. The bacon was more like pancetta style like thick cut and delicious. The egg was cooked perfectly (runny) and the sauce was very tasty. I ordered a poached yellow tail with bitter green and it was so delicious! The veggies tasted super fresh, and the poached yellowtail was tender and went very well with the dressing. It was pretty busy but the food came out super quick. I also had a vanilla bergamot latte which I've never seen anywhere else, and I loved that bergamot flavor with vanilla. Their pizza looked very good so next time we will come back to try more dishes! read more

Finally got to come visit the newest addition to Carlsbad. I live to find cafes or restaurants that are casual, find your own table and enjoy a cup of coffee on the weekend. They had a line out the door when I got there around 11:30am but only took about ten minutes to order and then there were still plenty of empty tables for me to choose while I waited for my order. I loved seeing so many families and friend groups out tables together--I even saw a whole birthday party and they brought a tablecloth, cupcakes and party hats all for the toddler! Such great energy and the service is super attentive to you. I would encourage anyone to come here for brunch and I'm sure their dinner is just as cozy. read more

Gorgeous space and good service! The chicken plate and mafaldine are a must! Chicken is moist and great with the garlic sauce and chili oil. The mafaldine is light and easily devourable with a lemony chilj oil flavor. Nduja pizza has an airy crust and a complex flavor profile with zest from the nduja and mild tang from cheese.
