Had the worst service I've experienced in a restaurant. Our server didn't listen when we explained our 2 couples hadn't seen one another for a long time and wanted a few minutes to catch up. Instead, the server kept returning to our table and pressing us to order. When we received our food from this "upscale steak house", we were left without silverware or steak knives - absurd! Later... one couple finished their dinner ahead of the second couple. Our server tried to push the one couple to order dessert rather than waiting until everyone finished their entrees. My husband and I absolutely love Willard Hicks! By far the best restaurant in Morgan Hill. Lovely atmosphere with an awesome indoor/outdoor bar. The fire pits outside make a wonderful ambiance. The staff and manager specifically have all been so kind and friendly! We have been to this location about 20 times since they opened in July and we have always had the best service. The hostess remembers us each time and now some of the servers remember us. The manager, Davlyn always makes a point to come over and say hi to us! She makes this restaurant so warm and inviting. So disappointed in this restaurant. We were racially profiled here and we just wanted a nice Sunday dinner . Service was slow and apparently when we went they were out of all kinds of stuff . Menus were also apparently wrong so the items we wanted they didn't have . Orders were delayed and then wrong when they came to the point we just asked for the check to leave . What an amazing experience at this lovely restaurant in downtown Morgan Hill! I honestly have no idea why there's some fairly harsh (probably exaggerated) reviews. Came with my wife and her parents for my father-in-law's birthday, we ordered the cheese and meat platter and coconut shrimp to start. For our main entrees we all chose a different signature steak recommended to us by our very charming, prompt, knowledgeable server Sophia. Disappointing. We came here last night for my mother's birthday, because it's supposed to be the hot, new restaurant in town. To put it plainly - it's just not great, and it's certainly not worth the money. We decided to order a few things to share. We started with the Sticky Chicken, the Coconut Shrimp, the Poke, and the Cheese Charcuterie board. Everything was OKAY... (the best probably being the coconut shrimp) but overall lacked in flavor. The dishes LOOKED beautiful, but all across the board were just not flavorful at all. Prices weren't horrible, but were definitely on the more expensive side, and the dishes that arrived DEFINITELY were not worth the moolah. I drew my line at the Cheese Board. It's described on the menu as a delectable assortment of cheeses and cured meats served with "housemade breads." Obviously, everyone loves delicious, warm, fresh housemade breads (plural types of breads). However, the plate that came was a cold, extremely stale baguette (singular type of bread) and sliced sandwich cheese. Not to mention the 18oz bottle of Dijon mustard they piled on to fill up the platter. The bread was doused in olive oil but not toasted or seasoned, so..... thank you for making it soggy? We called the waitress back (Avelaide who was LOVELY) and asked if the bread was made in house as described on the menu. After asking the kitchen she admitted that the bread was NOT made in house but rather sourced "from a local bakery." Oh yes I think I recognize this local bakery now.... the grocery store! NOT worth a whopping $22. Sent back. I also see a review here 5 months ago with the SAME EXACT cheese plate. So for at least half a year they have been falsely advertising homemade bread. Really?? Isn't that like.... illegal or something? Next up were the ahi tacos. I think? I'm not sure, because I couldn't exactly find a TACO under the 27 pounds of French's fried onions. They chose the world's smallest tortilla, like seriously it must have been 2.5 inches across, then didn't cook it? So as soon as you pick up the "taco" the tortilla immediately split right down the middle and all 276 pieces of French's fried onion went spilling onto the table. For dessert, we ordered the Chocolate Mousse, the Key Lime Tartlet, and the Crème brûlée. The crème brûlée was the best of these, however the custard was thin and for some reason.... brownish? I've never seen a crème brûlée that wasn't off-white before. You know like.... crème colored? The chocolate mousse was not a mousse..... it was a pile of thick, fudgy ganache. Inedible. Not to mention the menu description was confusing and started with the words "chocolate flourless" which WE thought meant cake because well.... mousse is ALWAYS flourless??? However, there was no cake. I mean, there was also no mousse though. Hmm... The key lime tartlet was also falsely advertised because um..... that girl was VANILLA. I am positive! We actually played a game of "Get the Lime Back in the Key Lime" as we squeezed the lime slices on the plate over the dish in an attempt to add some semblance of lime flavor. With dessert we ordered 3 double shot espressos. I never expect restaurant espresso to be very good, but I do expect them to be hot. These were barely warm - the sugar that we added to combat the horrible, bitter flavor could not even dissolve. And finally, one at our table ordered the Abigail cocktail with regular vodka (usually comes with grapefruit vodka) making it consist of vodka, limoncello, and fresh lemon juice. Someone at the bar MUST have been confused, because that girl came and she was BRIGHT ORANGE. It also tasted like it had ORANGE juice in it. We assumed it must be the wrong drink and sent it back, but another exactly the same arrived next. Honestly as I'm describing everything, it seems to be that someone wrote the menu just by looking at all the food and drinks and just kinda guessing what was in them. Well, attached are pictures of the desserts and tacos. Bonus game: see if you can find the actual tacos! Edit: Forgot to mention that halfway through the meal, a DJ arrived?? He took over the classic rock music playlist with some slow jams.... setting SOME type of mood in the restaurant. He wasn't bad, but it was pretty funny! This review is way overdue. Willard Hicks has become my wife and my favorite place to meet after work for happy hour and often for dinner as well. We think the food is delicious and always enjoy getting the corn bread with a couple drinks for happy hour. We have never had a bad meal and we love the Risotto with Scallops. What we enjoy most about WH is the very pleasant and genuinely friendly staff many of whom have been there for the long haul. That says a lot. It is not just a place we like to go for a drink and food. We really enjoy being there and that is in large part because of the great people who work there. We especially want to give a shout out to the bar tender, Jaime who makes the best drinks and is just a genuinely nice person. read more

This review is mainly for happy hour. Get drinks for a great price, all the cocktails are really fresh and well made. We love the patio outside and it's even dog friendly, which is nice. So, a little torn. For my birthday, my wife ordered their prefixed 'COVID' menu (steak; mushrooms; Mac and cheese; and another side) one steak was overcooked but I thought it was because they were sitting on top of one another and we picked up late, but other than that it was fantastic. We went again last week and got the "BBQ" prefixed option that comes with burgers; ribs; and some sides. The burgers were awesome (though a bit dry) as well as the sides but the ribs were seriously some of the worst ribs I have ever had in my life, and I'm not being dramatic. Chili's has better ribs than this place. They were baked; not BBQ'd and had some weird BBQ sauce basically thrown on top of it. For $109, without tip, it's totally not worth it. This is purely based on their COVID (not sure if it was a staple before cause we just moved here from San Jose in June) Togo menu, and those 2 options. We decided to out for a later lunch today in downtown Morgan Hill so we when we go there and the only place that did not have an hour wait was Willard Hicks and now I know why. We we sat after about 10 minutes of waiting. Mind you it was not busy at all. They do not have a lunch menu so you basically have the choice of a salad or a burger. So we all ordered burgers. Once arrived, none of them we're cooked to the temps we requested. My wife's looked like a briquet of coal and the bun on mine was as hard as a hockey puck (stale). We send them back. I soon got a new burger, but my wife's was no where to be seen. The rest of us were almost done eating and she finally found a manager and asked to box it to go. It still didn't arrive for another 10 minutes. Again, it was not busy. We asked our server for our check and waited 10 minutes before we tracked someone down to give it to us. They claimed they were short staffed, but that did not appear to be the case. I get the pandemic aspect, but these restaurants have had plenty of time to plan and get their act together. Had reservations for 6 @ 7:00 PM. Very busy on a Friday night but we were seated promptly and the waitress brought the menus and asked if we had any questions. We were served our beverages quickly, had time to peruse the menu and make our selections. Three in our party had steaks, 2 fillets and 1 New York. They all looked good and when I asked how they were I got the excellent reply. 2 of our party had grilled chicken breast along with mushrooms on one and Tri-Cauliflower on the other. Sides are a nice size, big enough to share. I had the chopped salad and added chicken, also very good. Waiters came by numerous times to top off our waters and asked if anyone wanted refills of diet beverages or iced tea. Overall a decent meal and very attentive service/staff. I drove a decent distance for this evening and would come back in a minute. Only positive things to say and I totally recommend Willard Hicks in Morgan Hill. read more

Great cocktails and amazing customer service! I had a great lunch date here during happy hour. The cocktails were all delicious. They didn't use the cheap stuff or restricted it to a subpar selection. I will say the only downside of my visit was the long wait time for food. It wasn't busy and our appetizers came out over 30 minutes after we ordered but our server Jordan was on top of it. He comped our appetizers and was really apologetic along with multiple staff that came to apologize and see that we were happy with our meals. I had the stuffed bell pepper, it was ok. I'm a vegetarian so my options were limited. Also had the pesto bread, it wasn't that pesto forward but still yummy. Also had the baked brie..it was good but probably not getting it again. Eventhough we had some hiccups on our visit I say try it out. They still have some kinks to figure out but I will definitely return to try more cocktails and appetizers. read more

Upon arrival we found that we had been moved to a room that was not desirable. The wait for food was considerable but was delivered to everyone at the same time. I definitely thought that the food was good but very expensive for a lunch menu - they gave us the dinner menus. Last night was my wife and I decided to celebrate our 40th wedding anniversary at the new Willard Hicks in Morgan Hill. What a night to forget. We arrived for our 7pm reservation with great anticipation of a new steak house and 40 years of memories. The server was attentive and Johnny on the spot to take our drink order and discuss any of the menu items. My wife order the ribs and I order the blackberry fillet mignon, medium rare. Our appetizer was delivered along with the wine and everything seem in good order. That is actually where everything went bad. We the proceeded to wait close to an hour for our entrees. The waiter actually went to check on our orders twice. When the orders finally arrived my wife's fries which accompanied her ribs were cold and my fillet was raw. I immediately sent the steak back and the server offered up new fries. I proceeded to wait another 10 minutes when the sever asked if I would like another glass of wine. I accepted and the wine was quickly delivered, still no steak. Finally the steak arrived a little more than medium rare but at this point I was not going to quibble. As a gesture of good service the waiter offered us a dessert on the house which we both declined as we had plenty on our plates to think about a free dessert. Now comes the sad news, when I got the bill there was not a single comp on the bill. After waiting for over an hour, getting undercooked food, the offer of a complimentary glass of wine, nothing, zilch, nada. I mentioned to the waiter who was surprised as he thought the manager took care of that. He went to the manager and returned to our table where they had comped the $40 steak. The manager who never came to our table to converse about the experience eventually position himself to see our table and when I caught his eye he gave me a look of "...are you happy now?" Absolutely a look of disrespect. When I asked the waiter before leaving how does this happen? He told me he had issues with the cook earlier in the week and experienced the same delays and under cooked food. So if your into having under cooked food, long waits and a management that seems to think it is a privilege to dine at Willard Hicks Morgan Hill, have at it. For me I would rather spend my money at one of the establish Mo Hill eateries where the management care about you and your experience. read more

We've been here a couple of times, once in the nice private room and the other eating at the bar. The cocktails are good and the bourbon is priced fair. BUT the SALADS are seriously lacking. I ordered the Chopped Salad which was $14. There wasn't much in the salad except for cherry tomatoes, some Parmesan and very little bacon. And the croutons were soggy and mushy. For a $14 chopped salad it was more like a bad side salad. I can think of several other places in Gilroy that for $14 give you lots of ingredients and tossed with a good dressing. Their dressing was like olive oil and maybe some lemon, lacked heartiness and flavor. What about serving and ask the customer if they want fresh ground pepper? When our server finally arrived we ordered drinks & appetizers which came out fine, as well as dinner. One exception was a side dish not showing up until we questioned where it was. Had to ask 3 times for refills on water, our glasses wer bone dry. After dinner we sat for a good amount of time. No one came to clear the dishes from our table so we requested they be cleared. We were not offered to go boxes, had to flag down a server to request. Our server was aware we had brought birthday cupcakes however, we were never offered a clean fork or plate. Our server seemed eager to drop off the bill but did not return for quite some time to complete the process which caused us to wait. **Bottom line, server wasn't as attentive as needed. Six of us went to Willard Hicks last night. Stay away from the risotto with scallops. The risotto was white sticky rice made with chicken broth. It was NOT risotto. The three scallops were small. Our friends had spare ribs, a burger, and filet mignon. All were excellent. I guess you shouldn't go to a steak house and order a terrible rice dish that is labeled as risotto. I would give a rating of 5 for our friends' food and a one for the dish masquerading as risotto and scallops. read more

The drinks were perfect and we enjoyed an evening out with some back ground music from their in house DJ. They also have an open air bar that connects to their outside patio. We had a reservation for 3 people at 6pm. I arrived to check us in and was standing staring at the hostess for 5 minutes before she would acknowledge me and I was the only one standing there. We waited 25 minutes for our reservation and got our table after asking what was going on to the nice bar staff outside who checked on it for us. (I think the hostess forgot honestly) Our waiter was mediocre at best , forgot one of our side dishes, never refilled our water.. I would expect better service on a 250 dollar bill. Will not return. We went here to celebrate a special birthday and wanted to try out this new place in Morgan Hill. Sadly we were really very disappointed.....from the very start . We had told them we were celebrating, yet they tried seating us on a bench type seat where there are 4 tables for two all seated on the same bench crunched uncomfortably close to the others. We insisted on a separate rable which she seemed hesitant but did seat us. Service is extremely painfully slow. Our appetizer arrived after a long wait.... totally burnt coconut shrimp. Had to send it back. When a non burnt version arrived, before we finished, our entree steak arrived. We had asked for it to be cooked medium. It was very chewy and difficult to even finish. We asked for salt and pepper. Didn't arrive till we were almost done. Asked for extra butter for the baked potato. Our server didnt bring it for the longest time . Finally we flagged down someone else and askedfor it. Just HORRRRIBLE service and food. Will not go here again !!! Next time we will just cross the street and go to Ladera Grill where we have experienced great service and amazing quality of food each and every time. read more
