I really loved the bacon egg on a scallion pancake it was truly unique and just an explosion of flavors. Not sure if I need the creme brulee toast I thought it was more of the creamy texture I think. Strong 4 stars. I am happy that Win Son opened a location in the city near my job because Williamsburg is inconvenient for me, but the food is so original and tasty, it made the trip worth it. Hooray for milk buns and scallion pancakes whenever I want! I've tried a number of items on the menu, and some are amazing and others are good. I didn't love the lurou bao because the meat had a curry spice to it, which I wasn't expecting. The outside croquette was excellent, however. I thought the fried dough inside the fantuan was a tad too crunchy, but it was one of my favorites, regardless. The milk bun is fantastic-- the bread is so good that I would go back to try a smashburger, which I originally thought might be too boring. The mochi donut had great texture, but a word of caution, it's quite filling. I love their sesame latte, not too sweet. Prices are pretty high, and service is perfectly fine. EDIT: the Win Son Bakery team responded pretty quickly when I tagged them on socials about the issue I initially posted below. They were actually very kind and rather quick about it (responded same day). They moved just as fast during the refund process (issued it within the same hour I filed my info on a claim). Of course ideally the mix up wouldn't happen in the first place but their customer service was pretty great after the fact. -- I've gone to this place a few times and the food is always good and service is usually great but today I had a small off experience. I had gotten up to grab a to go box for the rest of my food. I had maybe been gone literally like 40 seconds and when I came back someone had thrown all the food out. I suppose I could have asked the girls next to me to watch it just in case but I felt like there was a decent amount of food left and one item I wasn't even really touched (I took one bite of it) and it was thrown out. I think what bothered me the most though was the server who threw it out realized when I was standing there with a new to go box kind of confused and bummed and there wasn't really an acknowledgement that it was a mistake. He just kind of said "oh I'll take that," grabbed my box, and threw that out too.... weird encounter and wasn't really pleasant. I'm bummed because I paid full price for a food item I didn't get to really eat and wanted to save for later and it ended up in the garbage. read more

I felt conflicted about Win Son. The food was good (sometimes with a slightly American twist), but really no better than the food in Chinatown 10 blocks down, at 2-3x the price you would pay otherwise. We ordered the scallion pancake BEC, the fan tuan, and the mochi donut. The first couple bites of the BEC were great, but then the grease kicked in and we hit a roadblock from its heaviness. I did not like the sour-cilantro-mayo dipping sauce that came on the side. The fan tuan was yummy (the rice had a good texture and the filling hit the spot, but also $7 for a fan tuan is pretty insane. Popular for a reason! I don't normally seek out viral restaurants or experiences, but a friend was in town and wanted to go. The line was long, but moved quickly. We even got a table shortly after we ordered. Staff was shockingly nice, considering how swamped they were. Getting treated kindly with a modicum of respect was a shock, which clearly shows that this business prioritizes experience as well as food. I had the scallion pancake BEC and it was absolutely delicious! My friend thought it had too much cheese, but I don't think there is such a thing. When you but into the center - where the pancake was the thickest - you got the best combination of flavors. We also shared the tofu fan tuan and WOW. That was our favorite. Try it! Visited Saturday around noon and the line was out the door. It took us about 20 minutes to order and then another 10 to get to our table. After you order, there's a separate queue for a table which made the process quite organized. The staff was pretty friendly and I loved the aesthetic of the bakery - there's a decent amount of seats but it's busy. I thought the food was pretty good but nothing to rave about. The scallion pancakes were on the oilier side for me but I loved the attempt at this fusion. The soybean milk was just alright I think the traditional restaurants do it better. But the best item we got was the donut. I got the seasonal one and it filled with a red bean mochi with strawberries on top. Although it also ran a tad sweet, I think the flavors were quite unique. I would be back to try some of their meal options but think there's a lot of alternatives nearby the neighborhood. read more

Very interesting Asian inspired menu. Service was fast and friendly. It gets very crowded so it can be difficult to find seating but the staff are very helpful and accommodating. Overpriced, but definitely good. The place is super popular and there was a line around noon on a Sunday. I'd recommend doordash for pickup as it only takes abt 10 minutes. The fantuan was j as good as the $1 I had on the streets of Taiwan (except this one's $7 ). The BEC had great ratios, but the scallion pancake could've been crispier. The sauce was very ginger forward so I didn't really use it. I liked everything but it was $25 for 2 items, that's my only complaint read more

Win son now has a location in Manhattan, and you can see it's popular based on the line when you walk by later in the morning/afternoon. In my opinion the Brooklyn location reigns supreme. The mochi donut was still fantastic but it seemed a little different from the Brooklyn locations. The custard toast and Fan Tuan are still immaculate and no complaints. The Fan Tuan is one of my absolute favorite bites in NYC. The location itself lacks any sort of character compared to the Brooklyn location. I just really enjoy the Brooklyn location a lot more because it's more inviting. I would make my way to Brooklyn as I have a couple times to come to Win Son in the future. read more

I tried them when they had a flagship store near union square. Is the food innovative and unique? Yes. Is it truly authentic, tasty and something I'd want to eat all the time? NO. As some of the previous reviews have mentioned, some items are way too greasy you feel like you'd just drank a bucket of pure grease..... other items feel like they are made purely for the sake of being creative but not a great marriage of flavors or texture... just plain weird.
