This nail salon is highly unethical; they reuse paraffin wax from previous clients on new ones--using it repeatedly until it emits a foul odor--and strictly police staff regarding the use of disposable tools, forcing them to reuse items and verbally abusing them if they refuse, all while skimming 20% off the technicians' tips. read more

It was Sunday afternoon, and I had some time to kill before my lunch plans and really needed a pedicure. I typically don't like going anywhere because decent service is so hard to find. One of my spots was closed on Sundays (which I didn't know) I was at Santana row and since kitchen nail bar had no openings, I walked over to Winchester nails. I was able to get seated right away which was really nice since I was on a time crunch. I was seated in a massage chair (yay!) and had a nice relaxing pedicure. I'm usually really nervous when they cut my cuticles out of fear of being cut but didn't have that problem here. Very happy I was able to get in and out without any worries. Matched what I wanted, went on a weekday so there was only me. I asked and she delivered. The inside was spacious but you should wear a mask since you might inside all the plastic in the hair from the nail shaping. Person who did my nails was very detailed and I got the feeling that she was so into her job she forgot I exist sometimes cuz she only saw my hand but I liked that cuz I was tired and just wanted the job done. I had an inspiration pic but only wanted to change the bow color to matcha my birthday outfit which was red. The bow was done really well, I was super surprised. Not only did she shape my nails the way I like, she asked many questions to ensure I was happy in the end. I requested my usual French tip - we did a nude powder for natural look with a narrow arch white French tip. Personally, my favorite French I had all year. I was recommended here from a friend that has been coming for months. I originally went in to get a full acrylic set. After talking with Tu, she recommended I try Gel X. She broke down the price difference for me and took the time to explain the difference between the two. Tu took her time to soak and drill my old acrylics off (I've never had a tech not just rip them off with a tip). Great service and she was constantly asking if everything was okay. When I pointed something out, she was happy to fix it. I will definitely be coming to see Tu from now on! Best part about this review? It is genuine. The manicurists here are so kind and warm. I loved chatting with them and it felt like family. I'm just a little disappointed with the actual nail service. I asked for cuticle cleaning (extra $10) and was cut multiple times. Around 4 of my cuticles were cut way too deep and it hurt. Even though that happened, the manicurist was so nice that I tipped her well. I came home and realized my other hand had no top coat gel at all. I called her back and she was happy to redo it but I don't think I'd come back after all that hassle. Nice people but service could be better. read more

Came here for a fil. Tu helped me. I can back since the price was okay and affordable. I asked for a color change and Tu said she wasn't able to do a color change that it needed to be the same color, so I asked for them to be taken off and she insisted on just repairing my one nail that broke and doing a fill on all of them but when I asked for a color change she said she was not able to do it. I'm not sure why. She insisted on it being the same color as before ultimately I just got them taken off. It just felt like she wanted to charge more. Also area is in a sketchy area right next to AA center recommend go in the day time. I won't be coming back here. read more

Tu (the owner) is the best! I come to San Jose about once a month for work and a couple visits ago, I found Winchester Nails near where I was staying when I had some time to kill. I usually do my own gel x full set and then I'll visit a salon to get a gel pedicure. After getting an acrylic full set at Winchester Nails last month to switch it up, I decided I would try to teach myself to do my own acrylic nails at home. I tried for the first time the night before my flight to San Jose last week. It wasn't the best job but it honestly I think I did okayyyy (it is sooooo much harder than it seems). Still, it wasn't what I wanted to walk around with for 2-3 weeks. So obviously when I got to San Jose, I called over to Winchester Nails and made an appt. Tu was so sweet. I told her I did them myself and she was so nice about it lol. She was gentle when removing my first-time attempt and gave me a lot of tips along the way and encouraged me not to give up. She's been doing nails for a longggggg time and laid these acrylic nails down in no time to perfection. She created the shape so flawlessly, she barely had to file them down. Love coming here when I'm in town. Everyone is really nice and they really talk and try to connect with you, which is hugely underrated as a factor of quality customer service. BLESS TINA!!! This was my first time getting acrylic nails. I was nervous since I had not been at the place before and wanted a complicated design. Tina was upfront with her skills, which I appreciate since some nail artists say they can do things that they cannot. Tina really took her time on my nails. I never had to tell her about any mistake, because she would see it before me, immediately erased it, and would redo it. She wanted it to be perfect for me. She took no shortcuts. I went back to Winchester Nails to request a chrome french set. Jade is always great with accommodating my requests. Tu is also very welcoming and makes sure she checks in with you, especially when there is an unexpected wait. Tina and Lee made the wait time go fast, as they joked around with my friend and I. A friend of mine recommended me to visit this nail salon, let me tell you I do not regret it, the owner, Tu, is a master in her craft and the staff is very attentive. They go above and beyond to give you an excellent five star service. I had a lavender pedicure and a full acrylic new set. Tu made sure I was very happy with the length and shape, and attention to detail is superb. I've been too many other nail salons in the area, others that charge extra for removing gel and such other services that are generally exaggerated surcharged but her prices are very affordable and friendly. This is the best spot ever!!! I've been coming here for 2+ years, and have gotten to know all of the ladies well. I usually get a gel manicure, and periodically, pedicure as well. Lash lift is much lower maintenance as well (only no-no is using a curler, which I have no need to do so at all now xD). The initial couple of days my lashes looked a little more dramatic than I expected, but after a couple weeks they look more natural while still lifted. Hopefully they last a good while, I can definitely see myself making this a routine thing ^-^ I've never had my lashes lifted before so I have no point of comparison, but I think Annie did a great job. The room is right next to the main entrance, and the doorway faces it so you're pretty visible to everyone coming in and out if she keeps the door open. Otherwise am happy to come back for my next session!

I really really wanted to make this place my go to for gel x and builder gel nails, but they simply…read moredo not respect their customers' time. I do not think they keep track of appointments and, if they do, I simply cannot imagine how. I have tried texting and the response I get every time is "ok", even if I ask a question in my appointment request. I've tried making an appointment online and the appointment slots are always available and open, which can't be true. While in the salon, I've seen them answer the phone when someone calls to make an appointment, they are always on speakerphone, and I have never seen anyone write anything down after the phone call, they say ok and then just continue to work. Out of the 5 or 6 times I've been here I have only been seen at the time of my appointment once. Once! I am often waiting 30-45 mins and I stay because I have a very tight schedule and make appointments on the only days I can. I'm currently sitting waiting for my 5:00 appointment and it is 5:40 and there are 5 others also waiting, though I don't know what time their appointments are or were. (At 5:06 my manicurist asked me to wait 15 mins and I said fine....but I ended up leaving at 5:45 because she was doing someone's pedicure.) I have always been happy with the services I've received here and their prices are reasonable, which are the reasons for the 2 stars, but I simply will not be back due to their constant lack of respect of "appointment times".
