Here's what happened. I found windowwall by website. I reviewed their pricing and stylist bios. I called reception, asked for Katrina, and they said Katrina manages her own schedule so they gave me her number. I texted Katrina and booked my appointment. Success... -1 Star: I arrived to my appointment 10 minutes early and was asked to wait outside of the salon in a sitting area. The only place to sit was underneath a large fan because other chairs were taken by garbage and dirty laundry. Advice: Bring a sweater or coat, even on a nice day! -1 Star: Katrina was 25 minutes late to our appointment. She greeted me and immediately let me know I didn't have to wear a mask indoors. I said it was fine but she continued to put pressure on me. Advice: Regardless of someone else's preference for masks - do what makes you feel comfortable and follow the current county and state guidelines! - Star: Before our appointment and during our consultation, I showed Katrina photos of my hair inspiration. I gave her the full history of my hair. I asked her pointblank: "Do we need permanent or semi permanent color my hair to get my hair a slightly lighter shade of chocolate brown?" Her response in text and over consult was "No, gloss is fine." I figured after asking twice, I was well informed that I was getting a gloss and cut. She begins the appointment and starts with... FOILS. I thought, maybe this is a new technique. I had no idea at the end of my appointment the following: Katrina did a partial highlight on my hair using peroxide and we NEVER discussed this during the appointment Katrina charged me "her own" prices and not the websites. I thought I was paying for 135 (gloss and haircut) and she charged me 300.00... Advice: get in writing what services you'll need/ want and discuss your ballpark price for service so you don't have any astronomical surprises like I did! - 1 Star during the appointment, Katrina splattered color all over me including in my eye and ruined my top. Her process was careless when it came to her clients clothing and face covering. Advice: don't wear nice clothing to your appointment! I texted with Katrina afterwards letting her know that although the results weren't bad, I was surprised at all that had transpired. She faulted me saying she has her own website with her own prices and when giving me the break down of what she charged, she wrote partial highlight... which we NEVER discussed... For me, the experience was a bit shady and careless. I wont return this salon, but I hope you take my advice if you like a stylist here. read more

Ive been coming to Windowwall for the last 4 years and I realized it's probably time that I wrote a well deserved review! The stylists at this salon are receptive, friendly and most importantly they are extremely talented. The atmosphere at Windowall is fabulous-- it is always tidy, has gorgeous art deco light fixtures, and is beaming with warm natural light. I've been seeing Emily here for years and she has always given me incredible cuts and color. Her blowouts are unlike any I've had from another stylist. After visiting Emily I get compliments on my hair for months, she really helps boost a clients self esteem and knows how to create the perfect look for her clients. If you let her do her own thing she will make you into a goddess! I also recently visited one of their newest stylists there, Indigo. I showed her photos of the cut I wanted and even described the types of hairstyles Id like to do and Indigo went above and beyond to not only create the hairstyle I desired, but to customize it to my face shape and involved my opinion every step of the way. I was elated by the results. I'm so glad I found another fabulous stylist here! It's always nerve wracking to try a new salon , but Elizabeth was amazing ! Before our appointment she sent me detailed instructions on parking and how to access the salon which eased my anxiety. Elizabeth was really thorough and educated in our consultation and also had wonderful price transparency. She was super sweet and knowledgeable through the color and cut and really made sure we were on the same page with the end result . Elizabeth even checked in with me a few days later to see how I was liking my hair which was really nice! Overall I had a lovely experience with her and enjoyed her strong communication . I've been going to Windowwall for about 5 years, and I've had 3 stylists. Over the last couple of years, I've had a stylist not show up to work on the day of my appointment (Emily King), tell me she would comp me an Olaplex treatment for the inconvenience, and then not follow through with it. Emily also gave me noticeably crooked bangs once, and she told me they would "straighten out over time" and I had to come back to have it fixed. Then I had Mae, who once came in hung over and seeming pretty unhappy to be there. That time, she cut chunks out of my hair that should have been left in. It's a beautiful space, and my first stylist there did a good job with my hair. I changed stylists a few times thinking it was me, or them but maybe they had an off day. But I think the salon itself doesn't have good quality control. It's a bummer. read more

Katrina has cut and colored my hair for about 5 years now. I live 3 hours from Portland, and I was so lucky to find her! She was able to do in one visit what the place I had been going to wanted to schedule several visits to do. I have always had difficulty explaining what I am looking for in terms of color, and I usually only get it done a few times a year. I have blonde hair and always liked my natural color, but with age and lack of sun it had gotten to be a dull shade of idk what. Not only has Katrina always been spot on with the color and blending in my greys, the grow out was nicely blended which allowed for a longer time between visits. This last gap was almost 3 years between visits, mostly due to covid times and not the norm. While the before was livable, the after was spectacular. I would trust her with anything she wanted to do to my hair. Honestly, I don't know how she does it! To me its magic, but in reality it speaks volumes of her skill, education, attention to detail, and desire to make you look fabulous. She is usually booked months out, but she is worth the wait. KATRINA is amazing. She saved my hair. My hair was extremely over-highlighted from a previous stylist at a different salon. She knew exactly how to fix it while still giving me what I wanted. She asked for inspiration pictures, which I really appreciated. She asked questions like, what about this photo do you like? The brightness? The tones? Etc. Most stylists don't do this anymore or ever did, to begin with. Safe to say, I've found my dream hairstylist!!! The only downfall is she's always booked out like 2-3 months so you gotta snag those appointments when you can. (I'd rather have that than a stylist that has a bunch of free time) :) read more

This is an updated review. A few days after I wrote the review, Kim the salon owner reached out. She apologized for my bad experience and asked if I would be willing to give her an opportunity to make it right. I agreed and she was able to fit me in her schedule a few days later. We had a consultation, Kim asked me what I had envisioned originally, and she did her magic. I walked out of the salon super happy with the balayage she did. I've now washed my hair twice and the color still looks amazing!!! I'm now converted happy customer and will be back for a glaze and haircut with Kim in a few weeks. I think I might not have to travel back to CA just to get my hair done. What impressed me was that she reached out and wanted to make it right for me because they stand behind their work and want to make sure their customers are happy. Booked an appointment here on a whim because my hair desperately needed some love. I didn't have a stylist in mind, and just trusted whoever was available that day and time. This place is amazing! I love the Salons', cool & relaxed vibe. Kelly is a total artist when it comes to color, a magician! People always think blonde hair is easy and =bleach...sooo wrong:-( Kelly understood and it is perfect!! Not to mention she is great company!! WARNING: My first appointment here (full foil and cut) got upcharged from the posted initial price point by 55%. End result was a bill, BEFORE tip, of $507!!! This was a painful learning lesson in not assuming anything. I'm 39 years old, and have had my hair done in multiple salons and cities, all for far less expense (typically ranging from $250-300). The cut/color itself was fine (not amazing), and the space is beautiful, but the pricing is outrageous. I love Windowwall Salon. I first saw Danielle a couple years ago and I came to her with a terrible haircut that needed fixing (thanks, Supercuts!) Every time she cuts my hair it looks better than it ever has before. I also love the Salon, itself. There is always plenty of parking and the Ford building is super cool. They have created a really cozy/chic environment with tons of tropical plants and huge windows. It is always clean and full of cute stuff. I've always struggled with my baby fine hair. It's easily damaged by heat and bleach. I've had many different hairstylists damage my hair to the extent that it just all breaks off wherever bleach touched it. I gave up the idea of ever having highlights and healthy hair at the same time. BUT! Both Anna (cut) and Kelly (color) have worked MAGIC on my hair. It's the fullest, longest, and bounciest my hair has ever been while being just blonde enough without any damage or breakage! Kim and Emily have both colored my hair and they completely nailed it. I first went in for a last minute emergency cut and color. Emily knew I was going to film the next day and she took extra time and care in styling my unruly hair so that it would be tame and gorgeously shiny the next day, which it was! Her cut was so great that I didn't need any touching up when I had my hair colored again by Kim. I have very thick hair with stubborn grey encroaching (but not enough to go full grey streak yet) and it looks the best it has in years. Be warned: this is a VERY expensive salon. I had my hair done here a few weeks ago, and nearly fell out of the chair when I asked how much the total would be since the stylist was suggesting an add on treatment. Over $300 for my short hair to be colored and cut (without the treatment). My heart sank as it was double what I was expecting. I was happy with the color but the cut wasn't the greatest, and for that amount - I would expect close to perfection. It would be nice if they quoted a price when you call to make an appointment since they're so expensive. I didn't think my experience or hair was worth the money. She listens to what you want and draws from her deep knowledge and experience to communicate clearly with you about her game plan. She makes you a part of the experience. Ana cut my hair and I was impressed with her attention to detail. She was super easy going and nice to chat with. Every time I have been in the space I'm the only client there, which makes me feel relaxed and at ease. So if you are fortunate enough to live in Portland - go get him to cut your hair...now. The review: Aaron is a god sent. I have thick hair and I am lazy! I don't wash it with fancy shampoo , I don't even brush it often, and I certainly don't use any products... even still my hair looks fantastic!!! He is a master with the scissor, and can cut it in such a way that as it grows its progresses into new hair styles! I have about three looks in the 4-5 month period and it never looks "grown out"! The salon carries top notch products too: Phyto, Kusco Murphy, Malin+Goetz, Kevin Murphy. Wow - I like the cleanliness and overall feel of Windowwall. It is all in one big room so you can see who is around you for spacing reasons. Nice upbeat music and great view from the windows! I was given a mask when i arrived and they took my temperature. I felt very safe. Nathan listened to what i wanted and then did an amazing job cutting and styling my long thick hair, and I am very happy with the result. He has colored my hair in the past and did an awesome job. I have now gone to Emily three times and she has done a great job every time. The last time being my favorite. The first time I came in it had been months and I had lots of greys that needed to be covered. Unfortunately they were stubborn and didn't take the first time so Emily brought me back basically for free the following week and covered the leftovers. This last time I went in, explained I would be in the Caribbean for a month and she changed the color to a more neutral brown and I truly love it. Also the cut was great! I was recommended to Kim Namanny at Windowwall Salon by a friend/old coworker. I had just moved to Portland and was in need of a new and trusted hair stylist. I lucked out completely in making this connection: Kim is an incredible hair genius! She has the capacity to transform me with each experience! The gals: Kim started the salon by herself several years ago and its taken off. Her youthful spirit and great passion for art is magnetic. Of course, she has recruited like-minded individuals who are creative and eager to learn from her. Together they are an inspirational and unstoppable team, dedicated to fashion and art. You will not be disappointed. The hair: Totally on point. Trendy, modern, classic, whatever you'd like. Windowwall Salon is know for producing some of the most forward-fashion styles for pupular bands and boutiques like starfukr, frances may, etc. But if you are wanting just straight-forward good, classic technique you'll find it here too. I spent several years searching around the city, trying many of the other places listed here, and then I found Kim Namanny -- back before she named the salon Windowwall. Yes, I've been going there for that long (six years). My wife and now my kids go to Windowwall as well from time to time. Everyone there -- Kim (the owner), Cher, Danielle, Aaron, and the newer stylists who I don't know as well -- is awesome and provides great service and stylish work.
