We had an issue with our A/C this time and called Windy City Mechanical again. Our system is very old and had a block in the drain pipe. Tom and Ken were able to quickly resolve the issue. These guys are amazing professionals and have been available whenever we need them. read more

Scheduled my yearly furnace check on a unit they installed. Technician was at my home a total of 16 minutes. He removed the furnace cover, vacuumed the burner debris and put back the cover. Never fired up the burners or checked the output. A total sham inspection. Owner offered to come back and Re inspect personally. Sorry not interested in excuses. Makes me wonder how many other inspections this technician has fudged. BEWARE ! read more

WC installed a new furnace for us in the fall of '19 and a matching Rheem AC unit and coil this spring. Tom was very helpful and responsive in the quote process and worked with us to be sure the whole system look like a unit. He also helped us to improve airflow and that has improved performance and made the system quieter. When the initial AC unit installed had a factory flaw Tom was solidly in our corner in talking to his vendor and we had a replacement in days. We have used them for at least 7 years. They came out on a weekend when our ancient heating system finally gave out. They pronounced it deceased and had a new heating/air system on a Sunday. I was fully expecting an upcharge for weekend service. Nope. They helped us with easy financing and we have been loyal customers since. We use them for our cleaning/maintenance for our heat and air. I've had a very positive experience with Windy City Mechanical from Alsip, IL. I first called Shavitz Heating and Air Conditioning located from within the Skokie area to check on my leaking A/C and their technician had suggested that I can save time, labor, and money by just replacing my old A/C unit. When I said our substitute building manager that week said it might just be a clogged drain causing the leak, the Shavitz technician specifically told me, "It's not your drain, I checked your drain." Long story short, I had an opportunity to get another company to give me a second opinion on my leaking A/C and chose Windy City Mechanical mainly because their non-refundable diagnostic fee of $100 was inexpensive and was quite reasonable. Tom was very courteous and professional to talk to and scheduled a technician to come on the following day. Eric, the technician, drove all the way from Alsip, IL and was very courteous and respectful. As it turned out, the problem with my leaking A/C was really just a clogged drain. Eric configured and put together new drain pipes then tapped and showed me all the dark brown buildup that was clogging the old pipes. I also let him do some maintenance service for my old A/C and I ended up paying only around $200, a far cry from the $3.5K to $5K repair or $8K and up A/C unit replacement that Shavitz was quoting me for. This was in June 2019 and I had my A/C on almost everyday over that entire summer and not a single drop or leak had occurred since Windy City Mechanical worked on it. read more

Terrible customer service on the phone. My AC is not working and they told me that they're not servicing the type of unit I have (Space Pak). It's not that they can't service it, but that they just don't want to. Wouldn't give me any kind of explanation. Will have to find someone else who's willing to help. read more

I recently had a repairman out to fix my furnace. He told me at a min it would be 900 to replace a gas valve. He highly recommended that I get a new furnace for 2800.00. I received a second opinion and it ended up being totally unrelated to what the service man here said. I resent trying to be ripped off because I am a woman. Windy City saved us from melting! After 2 days of trying to figure out why our AC wasn't working (in 85 - 90 degree weather), we tried 3 places and none would come out same day. Enter Windy City! These guys are the best! So I come home from work during one of those freaky end of summer weeks (temperatures were in the 90's) and discover my house is 10 degrees warmer than the temperature outside. My AC was blowing warm air and my husband was at work. I researched mailers, yelp reviews, and called a couple of heating and air conditioning services. I'm calling the advertised after 24 hour emergency phone lines and leaving messages with no reply. Finally, Windy City Mechanical answers the phone and inform me they could send someone out. Luckily, the guy lives right around the corner and is there in minutes. He walks up introduce himself and proceeds to inspect my AC unit. We go in the house and he informs me of the options available. He sat in my house for an hour sweating bullets with no complaint or discomfort answering all my questions and my husband's via phone. My husband and I decided to replace the entire AC unit for various reasons including the age of the unit. Tom educated me on our options and explained the units fairly and without bias towards a more expensive unit. As a matter of fact, he determined we didn't need the larger unit we currently had and a smaller (less expensive) unit would suffice. Nevertheless, his guys were there the next morning to replace our AC unit. They were prompt, professional, and efficient. Highly recommended. I first contacted Windy City Mechanical on recommendation, for an intermittent gas leak, and they were prompt, friendly, and professional. The company really did well with my second call to them, which was a chimney with condensation dripping down from the attic. A roofer had checked for leaks, found none, and said, get a liner. In an initial visit Tom from WCM outlined the options very clearly and neutrally, and we ended up for various reasons replacing the entire boiler. The sudden financial hit could have felt like a blow, but we had an aging unit, and a high-efficiency boiler doesn't use the chimney to vent - it was really the only choice. I couldn't have asked for a better experience: WCM contracted for a liner in the second (non-boiler) chimney, and they encountered seven feet of concrete at attic level, revealing that for the 14 years we've been in the house, our hot water heater has not been truly venting. They kept to the price and eliminated a significant health risk, especially urgent as we've been plugging holes and sealing air leaks in the house lately. Only at the end of the job did they did tell me what they had gone through to open the chimney. It was easy to believe -- they were really dirty! I had been in the house working at the computer all through this (headphones on), and except for occasional shuddering of the entire building I hadn't had the slightest idea. They put in a very long day, but did not falter, even mopping footprints off the floor. And the boiler, a high-efficiency unit, is beautiful. You can tell when a nice piece of equipment is well-placed and skillfully installed, and this one is that. My wife will start commenting soon on Facebook that I'm taking too many people down to see the pipes when all they really want to see is the seeds sprouting in our newly-spacious boiler room. I hope I don't need to for a while, but I will call Windy City Mechanical again. read more

Have used WCM for many years... not sure if management has changed or if they feel they are too good now that they can charge whatever they want. Routine call made and since I knew the problem, they knew what part to replace right away. A 20 minute visit cost $330 for labor and a part that costs $25 at Home Depot. Called the manager and explained but this made no difference. Didn't care that I have been calling them for PM service for years. Response, "It's the cost of doing business." Really? A 300% mark-up is taking advantage of people and your "former" customer. Call them only if you have no other choice and get ready to pay A LOT. read more

I was wrongly charged a service call $85 today to check on my heating that was cleaned and inspected last Saturday (10/21). Yesterday and this morning, my furnace was short cycling: it would stay on for 2.5 minutes and off for 30 sec even though it was either 2 or 5 degrees away from the desired temperature. I called Windy City to report it and April (reception) said that they can send a technician out to check it. I asked her if I had to pay for them to come and she answered: "No, only for the part that needs to be replaced (if ever)". No further explanation. (Note that a similar issue happened in the past and they found that the flame sensor was not cleaned properly in the last service.) Ken, who did the cleaning last Saturday, came again today to check on it. However, the furnace did not do the frequent turning on-off and the issue was not reproduced at the time of the visit. Ken was charging me the service call and I told him about my conversation with April. After speaking to her again on the phone, she insisted that I misunderstood her. My question was clear and the answer I got did not have any room for any misunderstanding. I could have been given a clearer answer: "Yes, you will be charged a service fee" or better yet, they could have had the technician first speak to me about the issue I was experiencing with the furnace and help me troubleshoot. This way I could have avoided paying $85 for them to come and fix nothing. read more

These guys came to my home when we had a cold spell at end of May 2013 and replaced my furnace. (Let me tell you that it blew my mind that I had to replace a furnace in May because of the cold) Tom (Owner) came out to my home in Lakeview and was very understanding because I had a newborn in the home. Ive used windy mechanical for years. Phone service is pretty respo sive and good at keeping appointments. In the past 5 to 6 years i have only once experienced trying to be up sold products. And still came back. ive had them install three ac units and a boiler over this time at my house and condo with ok results. freon leaked out at home and condo doesn't quite get cool. But after dealing with a variety of bad technicians i subscribed to a "bird in a hand is worth two in a bush". But now i have to start beating the bushes again. The lastest issuse is due to the blower on my upstairs heating unit. Keeps cutting out at night. They have come out three times to assess the problem. I thought it was pressure gauge but the last technician said that wasnt the problem. Told me it might be motherboard(very expensive)and that if problem comes back switch out thermostat and call them again. which i did. The straw that broke the camels back is that they want to keep charging me a fee each time they come out even though they cant seem to fix the problem. It seems silly to loss a long time customer that has ignored numerous questionable situtions for 85 bucks. read more
