I was very EXCITED to hear about the new Wings Over Lowell opening during Folk Festival weekend in Downtown Lowell. After much anticipation, weI finally made our way to Downtown Lowell to sample the menu. After what seemed like many minutes of viewing the menu displayed on the LCD screens and letting other customers go before us, we finally made up our minds and placed our order. We got the F-16 (15 Wings), Cajun Waffle Fries with Cheese, and a 2 Liter of Diet Coke which came to about $19.00. There were just too many flavors to try and they allow 1 flavor for every 5 pieces of wings. Since the Mo loves hot spice, he insisted on the "After Burner" and we also tried the Spicy Teryaki and Golden BBQ. Although the wings were meaty and the textures were right on, the flavors were not that impressive. The Mo complained that the "After Burners" were not hot enough and seemed like it was just dressed in the same Huy Fong Chili Garlic Sauce we use at home. Since my tolerance of chili is not where his is, I took his word for it. The Spicy Teryaki didn't resemble any teryaki sauces that I was used to and the Golden BBQ flavor was a bit too tangy for me. Maybe next time I will try the Honey BBQ instead. I must admit that they Waffle Fries were amazing! They were fried to perfection and had the right amount of Cajun seasoning! For the optional seasoning, you can choose from Ranch, Cajun, Mesquite, Seven Pepper and Garlic Parmesan. The melted cheese dip ($1.00 extra) was a great compliment to the fries and we didn't even require any ketchup! They looked pretty busy, after all it was a Friday night. As we sat and ate our meal, I noticed that the establishment was very popular with takeout orders with the phone constantly ringing and people walking in to pick up their orders. The delivery service seems to be popular also, I noticed they had at least 2 drivers running in and out and they also had a sign posted for more drivers wanted. With its late hours and nearby proximity to the Umass Lowell Dorms/Conference center, Middlesex Community College and Lowell High School, I truly believe this franchise will be a success! Note: Parking in Downtown Lowell can be tricky and its usually a hit or miss. Obviously this will be not a problem for students or Downtown Lowell employees. I used to go in College a lot after a night out and found out that door-dash now is the selected delivery service for this location. In college I always gave it 5 stars... cause you know I was drunk every time I ate it. I came home from a long trip and needed some delivery to my house as I was not getting in my car. I saw they did door-dash with free delivery so I thought I would give it a go since I live in Billerica and never could get it delivered before. Food is okay but beware, service is very, VERY slow. We ordered for pickup and showed up after the quoted ready time of 25 minutes to find that our order was not ready. We ended up waiting an additional 30 minutes before receiving our order. Edit: Turns out the three managers on staff left to go on a walk "because it was too busy", leaving behind two employees to tend to a full board of customer orders. One of which was working so hard that he was struggling not to throw up from the heat. After being called on their phone by one of the remaining staff, one of the managers returned from her walk and began working to help complete orders. One of the other employees offered to refund my order, which we accepted. I hope our tip goes to the two hard working employees and not the management staff. Staff members said it's not ready yet, an additional 30 min went by I asked again what is going on, the cashier was upset and said oh here it's been ready. Co-workers recommended me to try the wings here. I work nearby so it's a 2-minute walk downtown. The Honey Garlic, Sweet Chili, Mango Habanero was to die for. Definitely worth it to upgrade to the waffle fries. They have 3 different flavors of seasoning you can choose for. Next time, I might try their dry rub seasonings. This is my go-to delivery spot. Orders are still piping hot when they arrive, the staff are friendly both in person and over the phone, and the wings/tenders are fabulous. I consider it the hallmark of an attentive delivery business when they don't stack cold and hot items together, resulting in an unsatisfactory temperature for both. Wings Over has always kept salads, sauces, and drinks away from the hot delicious chicken and fries. The eat in experience isn't anything special but the dining room is well-kept and staff are typically in the zone. This place can never get it right and it's a shame because their wings are so good. Every single time I've ordered.... whether it be pickup or delivery, something has ALWAYS been wrong, I kid you not. One time I ordered wings, fries and a cheeseburger and they sent the order to my house with no wings. Crazy considering they are called "Wings". Other times they have sent the order without sodas or sauces. Not to mention the time it took nearly two hours for the order to even make it to my house that is 10 minutes from the location. My most recent visit was yesterday. It was an in-store order. We placed the order and sit down to wait for it. 45 minutes goes by and our name was never called. We go up to ask about it and a guy brings it from behind the counter. I asked how long it had been there and the guy said "they should have already called you for it." Well not one of the FOUR people behind the counter called for us. Meanwhile another upset customer that had been there at least half an hour is pacing around angrily waiting for his small order. Of course knowing how much this place messes up, we check the bag to make sure the order is right. No blue cheese and no celery that we ordered. Unfortunately we weren't even surprised. These people constantly deliver the wrong food, cold and soggy. Today after 3 hours of trying to get my food delivered. The driver never showed up, each time they said they would send someone and no one would call and no one would show up. When I called back the manager started yelling at me and told me "I was wasting his god damn time". So this is numerous times that this driver was deciding he didn't want do deliver and never bothered calling or knocking. They said they had 5 other calls in the building... so the driver couldn't figure out how to walk over and knock on a door? This place took over Dharma Buns? Boohoo Got the B1 Bomber deal which included 25 wings. The cashier person was very kind and was patient with me. He gave me great recommendations. I had the option of 5 flavors for 25 wings. He asked me if I would like reg blue cheese or butter blue cheese, or both. I chose both, and he asked if I wanted celery and I said yes. The celeries were wrapped in plastic bags.. Interesting. He did not charge for the sauce and celery so I'm assuming it comes with it. These are my 5 flavors and I made a mini review for each of them. 1. honey bbq: tastes sweet, a bit refreshing, actually tastes like honey fresh from a bee's leg, probably one of my favorite. 2. west texas mesquite: dry rub, was a bit salty, this is supposedly one of their most popular, but it did not excite me 3. hot garlic: it is what it claims, garlic and spicy -- but not that flavorful 4. jet fuel: holy cow!!! spiced out, it took me 5 minutes to eat a wing, it was delicious!! I'm drooling thinking of it. You know how you expect a buffalo wing to taste? Sour and spicy, this is different, this is DELICIOUSLYYY flavored! They know how to spice things up. 5. jamaican jerk: pretty good, not sure how to explain the flavor, it is a mixture of everything. It sure does not taste like jerk chicken from jamaica though! I live three and a half miles from them, off the same main street(middlesex) and they refused to deliver. We compromised and got pick up since it was less than ten minutes away. We get a fair amount of take out, and this is a favorite for my boyfriend and me. Their portions for combo meals are good, and the Hangar 2 is the perfect amount of wings and fries to have one or two wings left over for a snack the next day after a full dinner. We like that we can get multiple different sauces for the same meal -- all the ones we've tried have had great flavor. I usually order about 10 minutes before I want to pick it up, and it's always ready when I get there. I live nearby, so I never get delivery, but I've heard from friends that it's quick and easy. I haven't had the poor customer service experiences that others have had, perhaps because I was lucky enough to get everything I ordered, and perhaps because I am an overly friendly person who people have a hard time being not nice to. Anyway, I was very happy with my food each time. I really liked the buffalo chicken wrap, as well as the buffalo style wings, which I ordered at a level 3/"red alert" spiciness level. I've had problems with my order almost every time I've gone there. I recently went with two friends. My order -- wings and waffle fries -- came in about five minutes. I sat there staring at my food as we waited and waited for the rest of the order. The second person got his wings, almost the same order as mine, after fifteen minutes. Food: Wings- My favorite so far is the Teriyaki flavor followed by garlic BBQ, Mesquite BBQ (a little salty/overseasoned), and then golden BBQ (too sweet). Waffle Fries- I got mine with Mequite BBQ, and it was worth the $4. It is a little overseasoned, but it dips really well with the sauce from the wings. Atmosphere: It's a little bland on the inside. Sure, everything is new - but it lacks something that makes it Wings Over *LOWELL*. I had a bad experience with the bathroom (had to wash my hands before/after eating). Everything is automated (Water/Toilet/Sink), but it was poorly maintained. It felt like the only time staff went to the bathroom was to change the paper. Staff: It has a fast food style to it, take it for what it is. They are helpful at recommending popular flavors, and maybe a small conversation here and there. The name of the place is descriptive. You come here for wings. They have tons of different flavors, and in one order, you can usually pick a few flavors. I liked how I could choose up to five different flavors. I was heading to a pot luck and picked up a "B1" (25 wings) and they were a hit. People said they were really good. (I'm not a big fan of wings, so I only had one and it was good.) I ordered it online. Curiously, you don't pay for them online, but instead, you pay at the store when you pick it up. I called in an order on a Saturday night in January, and was surprised on entering that the place was dead. But then I remembered that UMass was still on winter break. The ordering is not exactly intuitive. They don't have many combo orders, and the ones that they do have don't make sense. My wife and I both got small orders of boneless wings - she got honey BBQ, and I got Cruisin' Altitude (buffalo), plus onion rings and waffle fries.
