The waffle was on the softer side, yet still good. The breading on the chicken could have used a bit more flavor. The deep fried pudding French toast was tasty. It had a softer consistency than I was expecting on the inside. The berry sauce that came with it had a strong berry flavor and was not too sweet. No reservations are taken here, but surprisingly no wait this Sunday afternoon. I think it was because it was nice weather and they have a lot of outdoor seating. I ordered the Maple [syrup] Latte. I was skeptical at first, but my server reassured me that it wasn't too sweet. Although it was on the milkier side, it was still pretty good. We got Jonathan's Bread to start and it was pretty good. Our server was pretty spot on with the description about this bread that was toasted and served with jam and butter. For entree, I ordered the Special, which was Applewood Smoked Ribs and it was delicious. Meat was perfectly cooked and fall off the bone. The BBQ sauce was tangy and had a little kick. Along with the accompaniments, it was great. The bread also came covered with a thin layer of maple syrup that put it over the top. This was a very filling meal. Went to this place for brunch before pride this year and the food was so good. I got the smoked salmon benedict and my partner got pancakes. Those pancakes were literally melt in your mouth. Still thinking about them a month later. The benedict was delicious. Had incredible flavor and was cooked perfectly. Also the side potatoes?! So yummy, crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Outstanding brunch. The prices are on the slightly higher side but the portions and the taste make it worth it. If you're a first-timer you MUST try the Deep Fried Bread Pudding French Toast. I'm not much of a sweets person in the morning, but this converted me. Best bread pudding in Philadelphia for the actual bread pudding itself (if you're more of a toppings person, Green Eggs Cafe is better). There weren't many embellishments to it besides the lingonberry reduction and candied bacon and whipped cream [which believe it or not, actually worked together] -- but it simply did not need any. The outside was perfectly crisped but inside was a tender bread, almost custardy in flavor hence the bread pudding. Everyone I've taken here loved it! Another dish I tried recently was the Hot Chicken Uitsmijter. It was quite spicy and the chicken was very tender. I recommend ordering a side of the House Hot Sauce. It's got good heat and has a deliciously sweet aftertaste that also goes good with salad. I've also had in the past the Breakfast Sandwich which was so simple but so delicious as well, not to mention huge. The combination of bacon, gouda, pickles, and aioli was amazing. Amazing food and service is impeccable! Came in for a Saturday morning brunch and left completely satsified. Service from start to finihs was great we never needed anything, and didnt wait too long for the waitress to come over to help us. The service was on point here and we were able to get seated and served in a timely manner, even though the place was a bit packed already. The decor and environment is very clean, spacious and bright. Tables are set up nicely and you have a ice amount of space in between each table. When it came to the food, we got the scrapple to share, which to me was the star of the meal! deep fried and crispy but not soaking with oil- it was cooked perfectly. Open space, nice servers, and lots of cool unique items that you don't get at most brunches which is a huge plus. I feel like brunch can be so boring and half of it you can do at home. I had the softshell crab special of the day. Crab was cooked very well with a nice remoulade sauce on it. Only thing I thought was that the bacon kind of overpowered the crab flavor. Standout of the meal honestly was the home fries/roasted potatoes. Cooked so well with nice crispy bits and a good helping of it too. Nice fresh salad on the side to complement both of these items too. My friend got the vegetable omelet which also came with the potatoes and salad, and was a huge helping. Lots of other interesting things on the menu as well. Service was quick. Price for the sandwich was kind of surprisingly high, but it was crab so its understandable. This was a great place for breakfast. We'd been eating out everyday of our trip so I was looking forward to something different. The savory Fisherman's Pancake with smoked fish was incredible! My husband and nephew really enjoyed their more traditional brunch items also. The wait staff was very attentive and the vibe of the repurposed building was pleasant. Folks of all ages were enjoying themselves. My nephew found a convenient parking lot nearby that eliminated any concern of getting a parking ticket. I would've given 5 stars but the waiter was just ok. He never checked on us and forgot our straws despite being reminded. Get there early because they get busy. We ordered buttermilk pancakes with a side of bacon, the bread pudding French toast and the breakfast sandwich. The pancakes were good but the bacon was burnt. I personally like it like that but my daughter thought it was too well done. My other daughter thought the French toast was very good. My breakfast sandwich came the way the menu describes despite asking for no cheese and the egg over well. I'm lactose intolerant and didn't realize the Gouda was on there until 2/3 through (I try to limit my intake). Other than that the sandwich was delicious. The server came immediately to the table and took our drink orders as we simultaneously sat down. Now that is service. Amazing coffee may I note. The toast was served with a delicious, faintly tart lingonberry sauce which was the perfect accompaniment. On my second visit, I ordered the Vegetable Frittata of the Day, which featured roasted brussels sprouts. Unusual filling and super yummy! My husband got a special for his first visit, and loved it. For the life of me, I can't remember what it was. He ordered a Smoked Sausage Omelette, which he really enjoyed. I tried a bite of the potato and onion hash, and thought they were super good. The potatoes were cooked just right, and were flavored perfectly by the caramelized onion. I would order these myself. This is a solid brunch place. Came here with some friends and we all really enjoyed our food. I ordered the traditional eggs Benedict and inhaled it. I love that it also came with a salad, a nice way to get your greens in. Their breakfast potatoes with onions were really good but you can also ask for well done/crispy potatoes, which was what my friend got and it looked amazing. I also appreciate the fact that the restaurant has high ceilings and feels incredibly spacious with plenty of air circulation especially during Covid. I enjoyed a delightful weekday brunch yesterday at Winkel -- my first one there since the beginning of the pandemic. (All precautions were observed.) It was a very sunny afternoon, and I was offered several different outdoor tables, including one with an umbrella. As a single diner, it was great to be welcomed. I ordered the omelette of the day, which was three cheeses, including Gouda, plus a potato-and-onion hash, salad, and rye toast. It was delicious Dutch comfort food, beautifully presented. (Ask about the sandwich board out front.) I inquired about the availability of their wonderful spicy croissants. They are in the process of selecting a bakery. The service was friendly, efficient, and prompt. My request for mustard was quickly filled. My server, Dave, and I chatted about Winkel's sister restaurant, Noir, on Passyunk. He checked on me frequently enough to be attentive, without being intrusive. It was a leisurely meal, with a number of other patrons enjoying brunch.
