Another great meal at Winston's. This was the first time I enjoyed brunch there, but it was a fabulous experience. We didn't think to make reservations, but we were fortunate to get a table without a wait. Three wait staff shared the room and assured that everyone's needs were met....always with a smile and a kind word. Mothers Day Disappointment. Was seated in a corner of the bar with 3 people at a 2 person table. If I had walked in off the street, I would have been ok with that, considering the busy day. However, I made reservations weeks ago, so I expected better. They offered to move us because they realized this was not great, but they really had no where to move us to and it was starting to stress my mom out, so I had to let it go. It was physically uncomfortable, just no where near enough space. I still give them three stars because the food really saved the day, it was fabulous as always. So I won't be writing the place off as the food IS REALLY good, but I would never trust them on a holiday. read more

They have THE best homemade ice cream. Servers were attentive. Food and ambiance were meh, but we go back just for ice cream.

Today I ordered the same as last time, a chicken salad on a croissant with fries. The croissant was stale, the fries were small. The waiter offered to do something about it but I said I'd finish it. I should have asked for something else. The chicken salad wasn't very good. Service today was excellent. They gave me some dessert to make up for the mediocre food. I found it odd that only about half the staff were wearing masks especially with the age of most of the clientele. Seems a little selfish to not require employees to wear masks. I have been going to Winstons Grille since I've moved to the USA 10 years ago. I must say this restaurant deserves 5 stars everything from the menu to the environment is just delicious and cozy. I have eaten everything on the menu at least 2 twice. My personal favorite entree is the cashew salmon and my desert the Butterfinger Cremebrulee! As for the service. Management is always warm and welcoming. But a consistent mistake I've found over the years is that the servers don't tend to know the menu well enough and make consistent mistakes with my order... I can over look the service because again the food and environment greatly compensates for it. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone and I would urge you to try this charming restaurant. read more

After being a Winston's fan for years, I'm thinking of going elsewhere. The servers we've been getting haven't been as good as in the years past. Perhaps management is slacking in their selection. Managers don't come by asking how things are going. Today, the server was very slow to respond to requests and seemed perturbed when I asked her to replace my coffee cup because it had grounds in it. My son's brunch special, pound cake french toast, was a puny portion for the price and left him hungry. The fries were cool and the filet mignon was overcooked. The strawberry shortcake was more cream than cake, had frozen berries, and was not a good value. Winston's will not be my mother's day or holiday choice. I hope management will take action to bring back the Winston's I loved. read more

Nothing special! Our entrees of prime rib came out before our salad so we sent them back. It came out again about 1/2 way through our salad. Our appetizer plate was not cleared from the table, we still had our salads and now our dinner is added to the table top. We were very crowded and very rushed. Since we both asked for it medium rare we asked that it not be put under the Warmer lights and that a new piece be cut. Well it wasn't put under the lights, it was stone cold. The cheese on the baked potato had hardened and was like glue. There were 3 hostesses who stood in front and gossiped all night. It would have been a nice added touch if they had opened the door and greeted us as we came and left. Not worth the $$ we won't be returning read more

So, two friends and I dined here this evening ...and I am completely disappointed with the service at Winston's. 1) Our server, comes to the table and told us she almost didn't come back to our table because she usually doesn't see this table since it's at the dead end. Then she rushes away after telling us her name is Mare (like Mary) and asking us about our drinks. We obviously had additional questions. 2) Mary brings our beverages and gives us straws from a plastic baggie (COVID safety) then speeds away after we tell her the 1st appetizer order. 3) she brings the appetizers walks away so fast we don't get a chance to ask her for a refill on one drink. 4) approximately 10min later, my friends calls her name as she is a table away (approx. 14-16ft away) to ask for a refill in a NEW glass (who wants anyone to take their glass and straw for a refill when the wait staff is not wearing gloves and moving so fast, mingling with patrons etc.) and tell her she walks away so fast that we had to call her back to get her attention. Mare then proceeds to take the glass from the table then asks if she can run away now as she is in an awkward running stance...5) when she finally returns, she has a glass with a straw in the beverage. Naturally, we do not expect the straw, so when she comes back, I tell her we need her to bring a new drink without the straw so my friend can follow the same procedure of picking her straw from the bag. Mare then looks at me, steps backwards, leans against the wall partition, folds her arms across her chest, and widens her eyes and says "so you want him to make ANOTHER Palmer without the straw?" Naturally, I say "yes due to COVID, why would we not want to pick our straw as we did when you first brought our drinks. We do not know who did what for that matter?" Mare is clearly upset and stalks away. She brings the drink, but who would want to drink at that point. 6) When Mare returns with the toast we ask for, instead of placing the plate on the table, she dumps it on the plate the original toast was on, dropping a slice on the table. I ask her is we are good here AND she then stands back the proceeds to ask my name and says " you are courageous for speaking up. I've worked here for 7 years and with everything going on, no one ever asks about how we serve beverages". She said they have a tool at the bar that allows her to dispense the straws into the drink. It was obvious by her tone and body language something else was on her mind. She was winging her words and being passive aggressive beyond measure. 7) Our food is delivered by a man, and he seems delightful and when he asks how we are, I say good now that he is here. He asks how things are, and my friend asks if he is the manager and when he says he is, she proceeds to tell him she wants to talk and if he has a moment to take a seat. He immediately tells her he is very busy, obviously catching himself and adding "but not too busy for you ladies right now". At this point we we are shocked by his response and tell him to forget about it. Then he leaves quickly while squeezing his fist as if he was holding a stress ball. We later find out his name is Roger. 8) Mare never apologized to my friend, who never touched that palmer drink. Having this experience was embarrassing for my other friend as she is a regular and recommended this place. While the food was good the service was absolutely terrible. Additiinally, we noticed that while Mare was dismissive, condescending, and arrogant towards us, she was on her knees in front of another table being extremely friendly and engaging. Epic fail on Mare and Roger's part. They will never get my business again. It's sad that this was our reality. I hope no one ever has this experience. I have had great service and bad food at other establishments - where the service was so good that I would give the place a second try, but not this place. read more

One of the best restaurants in the city. Their food is amazing. My favorite is their roasted chicken with collards. Their ribeye steaks are incredible. Just amazing food and service. The quality of the food was EXTREMELY lousy for the price. I ordered the baby back ribs and honestly, I have not had worse. It was a cheap cut of meat drenched in cheap, overly sweet supermarket BBQ sauce. It was the kind of meal you expected to pay $12 at a cheap dive -- not $25 at an upscale restaurant. My friend had the rotisserie chicken. It too was utter crap. The dry, haphazardly seasoned, rotisserie chickens at Whole Foods taste better. And the collard greens were awful! Bland and tasteless. The food needs good chefs in the kitchen and pronto. And whoever is their kitchen manager is clearly buying cheap cuts of meat to cut corners on the cost of food. That said, the decor and service were both excellent. The ice cream was superb. I might come back for a pint of butter pecan -- but seriously, the rest of the food leaves so much to be desired. read more

The food was ok but the waitress (Mare pronounced Mary) seemed to have not been too fond of black people. She kept her distance the entire time from our table due to "Covid" as she stated, yet she was on her knees just 2 tables up from ours helping other guest, who just so happened to be "white". If that wasn't bad enough, the manager (Roger) who brought our food to our table stated he was "busy" when asked if he was the manager YET managed to go directly to the table down below our table in plain eyesight and talk to those customers for over 3 minutes. We could clearly hear his conversation from our table and he was telling the customer how glad he was to see him and continued to carry on about other "non-important" topics. By the way, they just so happened to also be white. Never once were me and my 2 friends rude @ any time during our visit. In fact, when one of us asked the waitress a question regarding the interaction of us visiting the restaurant, she took offense to it and then proceeded to be condescending and say it was "courageous" for the issue to be addressed. Courageous as though any of us needed to have courage to address her rudeness and very obvious ignorance. We chose this restaurant due to the Cheesecake Factory having a 2.45 hour wait but it was a very poor decision. One of us lovely ladies is from Charlotte and I for one was very disgusted and embarrassed for exposing her to such racist behavior. We will NEVER visit this establishment again, to be so rudely disrespected and our feelings and concerns disregarded by "management". read more

Was up in the area doing a little shopping and drove past. On the way back we stopped in for dinner. Nice atmosphere and cozy. Food was good, no complaints what's so ever... Service was also good... Sanitation score of 99 which is always nice to see... don't think I'd drive from Clayton to go back . If I were in the area I'd definitely give them another try. read more

Extremely busy business lunch spot that offers something for everyone. This is a local spot that feels like a chain but is much better than Tribeca Tavern across the street. I typically try to go for something on the healthy side, such as the "black and blue" salad, which comes with blackened chicken or salmon on top. Most of the salads are in the $12-$15 range. Around the holidays, reservations for even lunch are a must. Service is friendly and attentive. read more

Met some friends here on Saturday night to celebrate a birthday. I booked our reservation for four online and we were seated immediately upon arrival. I ordered the London broil which was deliciously tender. The creamed potatoes were smooth and the dinner rolls were addictive. The restaurant is beautifully decorated. I've dined here several times and the food is always great. The server that we had this visit was friendly but mostly absent. My friends were surprised because good service is usually a given at Winstons. We finished off our meals with desert - a huge fudge brownie with vanilla ice cream. FYI, Winston's makes their own ice cream and you can even purchase some to go . Winston's is a great dining experience. I look forward to returning. read more

We went for a pre -8th grade graduation dinner. I had forgotten what a great place this is right in the backyard of North Raleigh. We had the Bruchette appetizer. The best in Raleigh! Goat cheese and fresh tomatoes. We also had the seared sesame Tuna which was also excellent. 6oz of sashimi grade Tuna cooked perfectly. I had the Prime Rib, medium rare. I was not disappointed. An excellent cut of meat. I was not disappointed. The service was excellent. Drink prices were a little high, but the entrées were reasonable. I would recommend this as a mainstay lunch and dinner location. read more

Went out for a quiet meal with my mother. The waitress we had provided excellent service, she presented us with the chef specials. I chose the short beef ribs with collars and sweet potato yams. When food arrived as I was moving the french onions that were on top of the short beef ribs I notice strains of hair on the plate. I notified the waitress and she notified the manager that was on duty while taking the plate away. The manager offered me to dine at a later time if I would like, was very disappointed that I was not able to enjoy my meal for the evening. But would still recommend this restaurant to others, just check your plate. read more

I hosted a very large dinner at Winston's recently and everything went really well and the food was great. Many time, large groups expect the service and food to be a little less wonderful than when you're in a small group but it was just as good and the service was every bit as attentive. Water glasses and other beverages never were less than half-full, bread baskets were refilled generously, empty salad plates were removed swiftly (but not rudely). I would very much recommend this for large parties, dinner meetings, or rehearsal dinners. read more

Great food. Quiet environment and they do not rush you. While the servers are excellent the time to get the food is a little slow.

4.5 stars, but closer to 5 than 4. Have been to Winston's 4 or 5 times, and have had nothing but good to great experiences there. Went today for lunch and had one of the better dining experiences of the month. Had two appetizers for lunch (fried oysters, which were a little salty but otherwise great, and the Carolina crab dip, which was among the best I've had). A nice glass of Sonoma Cutrer chardonnay (for nine bucks, a bargain). Terrific service from the bartender (Lauren?) who was also serving nearby tables. Beautiful space inside, very friendly people, convenient location (easy in and out from Falls of the Neuse), and very varied menu. I'll be back ... often read more

Winston's is not the same as it used to be. I ordered a salad with grilled chicken, and the chicken was pink inside. I sent it back and was so disgusted after seeing it that I had to order something else entirely different. The manager came over and explained to me that his cooks have special training and know how to cook chicken to the right temperature. He was more or less implying that it was cooked correctly and I didn't know what I was talking about. I told him that I don't eat chicken that is not thoroughly cooked. Made a reservation there for my mother's birthday. The restaurant called that afternoon to confirm the reservation and ask if there were any changes needed or special requests, which was very nice. Our server was very accommodating and attentive, and the food was excellent. We spent about $30 per head and each had a cocktail and a great meal. I love their bread and butter something so simple but so perfect. We went to this restaurant to celebrate my birthday. It was my worst dining experience ever!! The waitress was not friendly or helpful. She seemed to be burdened by our presence. She took our orders but did not follow up well. The restaurant ran out of a menu item that several people in our party ordered. It was over thirty minutes before they told us, and then it took another 40 minutes to get the new item that we ordered. There were children in our party and they were getting hungry so we tried to get their simple orders earlier. The request was not honored. We were there for over three hours and spent most of that time waiting for our meals. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone. Poor service and a lack of courtesy are the main reasons. read more

We were a party of six on a Sunday Night, celebrating a birthday for our niece. Not a good experience. On arrival, I needed to move two tables they had pushed together to accommodate us because there was not enough room to squeeze a normal human between the tables and the wall. Not too bad, I am able- bodied enough to move a few tables while the wait staff watched. And it's good exercise. By the way we had asked for a circular table when the reservations were made. My dish (Chicken Pasta) arrived on time but was cold. And tasteless. My wife's entree (also Chicken Pasta) arrived when the rest of us had finished. The explanation was that she had ordered the sauce on the side and no cheese. By the way, it was covered with cheese. We all got to watch my wife finish her meal. Not comp'd. We were there for two hours. My water glass was filled once. About halfway through the meal, hammering started on the wall behind us. It got bad enough I started tapping the wall to let them know 'hey, we can hear you'. But the hammering continued for the rest of the meal. Never did learn what that hammering was. And it was cold. My niece kept her coat on for the dinner. Why would I drive 30 miles for this again? read more

We have been to Winston's many times. The food is always top notch and I love they always have a local craft beer on the menu. The service is great as well. They are kid friendly which is a plus since we have a toddler. It can get busy so make sure to get a reservation. read more
