Hamburger arrived rare vs medium, i can deal with that, but after explaining to the waitress and after taking a big bite out of the burger, she took it back, threw it the bitten hamburger back on the grill and returned it to me. yuck and especially yuck to the person who had their food cooked over my germs. nobody and not even the manager found that wrong. Mentioned to this to the manager who had the look of "this is all normal dude, what's he problem". The manager agreed to replace the burger and it hadn't arrived by the time my wife finished her lunch. Just asked to remove it from the bill. On New Year's Eve we got to this restaurant in the evening and were told there was a 3.5 hour wait but since we were only two of us there was a table for two in the bar area. We were promptly given water and menus. Because we had been here before I knew we both liked the bread so I made sure the waitress understood we wanted the bread ahead of our entrees. Wife ordered the Salmon salad with balsamic vinaigrette dressing and I ordered the grilled chicken with tostadas and a cilantro dressing. All was good and better than other times. Decided to try Winston's for lunch after hearing good things ..here are my thoughts : * Ordered the French dip ..very tasty, one of the better French dips I've had in Raleigh...mashed potato side was also good ..no lumps , which I truly appreciate. * Co-worker had a chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries and enjoyed that as well. * Only reason for 4 stars would be service ...it was spotty and I get that there were large tables ..should of given our table to someone less busy. The food is AMAZING it's so good their burgers are the best I've ever had and my sister said that they have the best salmon and in my opinion the steak, THE STEAK! ITS SO GOOD!!!!!!!! We had reserved an outside table and the minute we arrived we were brought to a beautiful patio table. The outdoor seating is lovely as it's raised and a bit hidden, so you are not sitting in a parking lot. Our waitress Kayla was the bomb. She got all of our orders correct, everything was brought in a reasonable amount of time, condiments, etc were all brought. Our food was more delicious than I had remembered pre-covid. I had the 1/2 rack of ribs with slaw and fries. The fries were burn your mouth hot (which I love), seasoned beautifully, and cut the perfect size. Not shoe string but not regular cut. I think these fries are going to spoil me from having them elsewhere. The coleslaw was also delicious. Not too much Mayo and cut small but not too small. The portions of the fries and slaw were also double what you'd get at other restaurants. Then the ribs, yummy. No fat and the right amount of meat on each rib. Delicious. Hubby liked his meal, friend loved getting chicken, and other friend was in love with his ahi tuna salad. I think I'm going to have to return quickly for that ahi tuna salad. I can't get it out of my mind. As for me I'll get the ribs every time. I am very disappointed in my experience this evening. I made a reservation for my Wife and I for our 23 year anniversary and I was disappointed in my experience. My chicken was tough and too salty. Instead of the manager making it right, he had the server bring us a free dessert, which we didn't eat. He never came to the table to see if we were happy, and with my wife being a manager at a restaurant, we know this is not the way you keep guests coming back. We will not be returning. read more

The service and food was amazing! I would suggest making reservations if you're going on a busy night. I enjoyed a grilled chicken sandwich that was not one but dry. The homemade chips are really good. If you have a sweet tooth like take a look at their desserts and homemade ice cream. The banana foster pastry desert was my favorite especially with the two scoops of cinnamon ice cream. If I didn't have errands to run after dinner I would have purchased a pint of the cinnamon ice cream. The apple pie was a good but nothing over the top amazing. I called the establishment over a month ago to make reservations for my birthday dinner. The reservation was set for 330pm and at no time did anyone inform me that they open at 4 PM and that 330 would not be a possibility. I arrive today at 3:20 only to see the parking lot empty, so I walked inside and asked their hours and at that time is when I was informed. I asked to speak with a manager who I was very less than impressed with his attitude towards the situation. He seemed very nonchalant and unsympathetic. I explained to him that I was very displeased and he proceeded to tell me in less than an unkind manner but more of a chastising manner that several attempts were made to call me this week to inform me of the discrepancy. Yet, there were absolutely no messages left on my phone from Winston's Grille. I also mentioned to him that I work like most Americans and cannot always get to my phone during the day, therefore a message would need to have been left which it was not. If a proper message had been left I would have been sure to call back so we could address the problem. Needless to say me and my party left because I would not give them a dime of my money based on the egregious mistake by the initial staff member and the uncaring and unwavering response of the management team. This definitely ruined my birthday experience and I will not be returning as a patron to their business. read more

My first time to Winston's Grille was for a retirement party of a coworker on a Thursday night at 6pm. We had reserved a back, private room for our party of 11. I was the first to arrive and they allowed me to enter the room almost 30 min early. Our waitress ( I forget her name, sorry) was very attentive, polite and professional. My glass of water stayed full and she frequented the room often to make sure all was well. We order 3 appetizers, quesadillas, hot wings, and jam jam shrimp. I only tasted the jam jam shrimp which was very good. They also offer hot rolls while your waiting. I was impressed with how quickly our food arrived for such a big party ( there were a couple of other large parties out in the main dining area). I ordered the burger w fries cooked medium well and mine was cooked to perfection. The burger was so big I couldn't even fit it in my mouth w/out squishing it down a bit. Burger was cooked to perfection. Everyone else seemed to enjoy their meal. Everything from Salad to steak to salmon was offered. All were satisfied And no one left hungry. Overall great experience both food wise and customer service wise. Just a couple rod-bits of info: 1) We had a vegan and unfortunately there were hardly any menu options for her. She ended up w a salad minus the chicken cheese and dressing. I'm not certain if the charge was decreased due to the no-meat since our employer picked up the bill, but if you are vegan just be aware that menu options appear to be pretty slim. 2) Even in the private room it was fairly loud due to another party out in main dining and the windows to the private room don't go all the way to the ceiling. Also, a man from out in the main dining area entered our private party room and just started talking to us ( we are friendly and didn't mind) but this did occur ( nothing against restaurant for this, they can't control others). I just had one of the rudest experiences at this restaurant. I was just there with a colleague for lunch and the manager comes to our table, while I still have my plate to ask if we would move because someone who comes there every SUNDAY wants this table. He asked if we wouldn't mind moving to a booth. Here are some facts: I've been coming to Winston Grille for the past 15 years, I've reserved private rooms there for company events, celebrate special occasions like birthday and graduations there with friends and family. I WILL NEVER EVER EAT HERE AGAIN after what I experienced today by this manager. There were several other tables available for them, why didn't you offer them the booth or other table. Overall, meh.. I wasn't impressed at all. First, I ordered the Cajun shrimp, French Fries, and gumbo. The gumbo roux was way too thick..... It also lacked flavor.. Definitely skip ordering that one.. The Cajun shrimp came with an orange sauce. It didn't help. The fry on the shrimp was very weak.. It didn't taste crispy or flavorful... The fries were disappointing. They were not fried hard and did not taste good. To be fair, the other people in my party raved about how good their food was, so maybe I ordered the wrong items. Food was fantastic! Sitting at the grill bar is way better than the alcohol bar. I got see the numerous selections of food that I wanted to eat right then as they were preparing the food for the guest at different tables. That chicken salad croissant was definitely a generous chef portion and I wanted to try that immediately. But, I had the medium-well ribeye with green beans and enjoyed every bit of it. The atmosphere was definitely a great mood setting for family, romantic dates,, and everything else you wanted it to be. And let's not forget the service, they were definitely on point with everything to delivering orders, to helping each other in the grill area, as well as paying attention to the customer's drink when it got low. I've dined at Winston's twice now, and I have to say I'm very disappointed with the inconsistency in service. On my first visit my server was wonderful! Super helpful, on point with checking in and ensuring we were enjoying our meal. But this second time around, our server was just awful. She completely forgot about us once she had a "helper" help with orders. He was really nice but he wasn't our server/the person who would receive the tip. Normally this wouldn't bother me so much as I've served in several different restaurants for years, but the fact that I could see our server giving quality service to other patrons (i.e., taking the time to bring out a dessert tray to a table of 4 and spend 5 minutes explaining the different desserts and which was her favorite) yet could not be bothered to check in with my father and I when we had been done with our dinner and waiting over 15 minutes for the check (oh and our plates were cleared) is just unacceptable. It was clear she forgot about us and did little to even attempt to apologize. I'm not asking for a discount or anything but acknowledging the mistake to your customers means something--that you own up to your mistake and try your best to ensure they can still enjoy their dining experience. Well, we did not. After waiting and flagging her down with no success, I finally found her "helper" who was inside with other tables but immediacy apologized and got us our check. He was great, the food was great, but that horrible customer service will be the reason I won't return. It gets pretty busy in the evening so I'd definitely recommend making a reservation ahead of time. The service is always professional and accommodating, and the interior is classy. I like ordering the crab dip for the appetizer to share (cheesy and creamy goodness!) and I always try something different for the entree...nothing has disappointed to date! I always feel too full from dinner for dessert, but once they bring out the beautiful dessert tray it's hard to resist. I am very rarely impressed by restaurants. I have been in service for over 20 years and I tend to be very critical of restaurants because I expect the standard of service that I give. I was blown away by this restaurant. We had 1900 reservations and were sat immediately, in our choice of location. Our server was lovely, attentive, friendly, and she got everything right! One of the first things I noticed was that if you felt you drank too much, management would arrange a cab for you...I love that they advertised that on the menu. The food was great. Calamari was tender and lightly battered, three sauces! I had a sushi roll that was fantastic. We had a bottle of very reasonably priced sparkling rose. Manager stopped by to make sure everything was OK. All-in-all we had a fantastic experience and it was better than the last 20 restaurants I have been to in Tampa. read more
