Has this popped up on your radar? Run toward it. Making a Costco run? Skip their food court and come here instead. Delightful Caribbean food truck. I tried basically every version of their jerk chicken and it was all fabulous. The WINGS ARE BOMB. Absolute stars here. I don't know how they are usually prepared in the Caribbean, but here they appear to have come out of the smoker. Life-changing. Fall off the bone and tender smokiness that makes you wanna pop these into your mouth continuously. The greatest thing too is that they sell these by the piece ($1.25 each). That means that you don't have to commit to a dozen at once, and can try other foods too. Or you know, order more once you realize you didn't order enough. Their plates: don't sleep on their rice and veggies! They are delicious but not overpowering in flavor which you absolutely need with all the jerk flavor lighting up your mouth. Their wrap: i was actually too full by the time we opened this (the goal was to save this for the next day), but the little bite I had was wonderful -- super flavorful! But I'm Asian and i like my rice. Fried plantains: loooove these. So yeah, I was too full and told myself that I would save the cake for later too. But a little bite now, just to taste. Whoops, ate it all and have no cake left to enjoy later. Maybe we should have bought one for now and one for later?

Burnt chicken and rice and peas.....that is what the jerk chicken taste and smells like. I ordered it to go and when I got back to my place the smell overtook the house. My daughter who is young and usually eats some of whatever I'm eating would not even eat the food. She tasted it and spit it out. I could barely finish the food. My wife ordered the curry chicken with rice and peas and it was a bit better. However, the food lacked authentic Jamaican taste and seasoning. It lacked salt and rice tasted burnt. Jamaican rice is usually a Shelly style of rice and this was not. I would like to think this was maybe an off day and possibly because it was close to closing time it may have been the bottom of the pot. (If it was it should have never been served) But on a lighter note, the portions were more than generous. The cashier was very pleasant and the venue is very unique. So all in all, if your looking for a Jamaican vibe it's not a bad place to visit but if you know real Jamaican food and your a foodie this one ain't it.

Laid back spot in S Austin w gtop notch service before you even get to the food. Tasty options Had a lil of everything. Beef patties were flavorful w a light flaky crust. Snapper was well seasoned and cooked, crispy outside , light and tender inside ( my fav ) offered in 2 sizes. Curry was light yet flavorful. Jerk Chicken was on point. Had wings as well, a lil dry could have just been an off day no problem tho for the price ( next time ) . I was warned of the level of spiciness, but they could have kicked it up a notch or 2 for me. Got the jerk chicken & a side of plantain. I was surprised how amazing the plantain were considering there aren't many reviews about them? So good I would legitimately come back for 5 orders of plantain. Called ahead & got it for take out, by the time I got home the food was still piping hot & perfect condition! The jerk chicken order was okay, I didn't get sauce bc I thought it would come w a small amount/thought the spiciness in the reviews was also from seasoning. I typically like spicy food, the chicken alone wasn't as flavorful as I thought it would be so would recommend getting the sauce if you're into that. I'll probably order the curry chicken next visit. Portions were very well!

The food here was DELICIOUS. We ordered the Jerk Chicken Plate and Brisket Wrap with a side of plantains. The chicken had a flavorful, smoky crust with tender and juicy meat inside. I savored every bite. The brisket was tender which paired nicely with the crispy red cabbage and chewy outer wrap. The plantains were sweet and salty, a nice accompaniment. We will be back.

I got the jerk plate (two drumsticks and a thigh it could use a tad more seasoning) that comes with cabbage and rice and peas. Cabbage was a little different then what I'm use to but the whole plate was legit! If you go and you open up ur box and notice that there's no jerk sauce, (I was heated) don't be alarm they put it on the side (two of them). Next time when I come back I am going to order the red snapper. I hope they add beef pattie with coco bread and cheese and Oxtail plate.

It's been a long time since I had something so tasty; my meals during this pandemic have been pretty monotonous. I'm not one to seek out spicy food but the jerk chicken had such a variety of flavors, I couldn't stop myself; I sent my neighbor over there so he could try it too. We stopped by Winston's Kitchen while randomly strolling around and exploring the area. It's in a cute cluster of other food trucks. Zachary was working the truck and was immediately friendly and engaging. We explained we weren't hungry, just hanging out, and he offered us samples of Winston's curry chicken- no pressure to purchase anything. This sample of curry chicken was a little slice of heaven. Creamy, spicy, but not too much of either. And sure enough, and as promised, no pressure from Zachary. What followed was good conversation and an exchange of stories. (And an introduction to the eponymous Winston himself!) As I'm from out of town and had been looking to purchase hot sauce as gifts for friends back home, I did end up sampling the four homemade Winston's hot sauces they had for sale and bought the hottest one. For $4/bottle, these were very reasonably priced and a truly local hot sauce I could take back home. Thanks Winston, thanks Zachary. I promise I'll be back for a full plate of the curry chicken! read more

I was just thinking about what I would eat today and thought, "Winston's!! I wonder what time they open?" So I looked it up on Yelp and discovered that I'd never left a review and felt I needed to since it is so good. Honestly, I'm a vegetarian who does a lot of vegan meals at home, but that will all go right out the window for some of Winston's jerk chicken wings. Everything is really good in my opinion. And the people are great. When we used to provide buffet style catering orders every day at work pre-pandemic, it had been requested by a VIP that we check around for his favorite style of food - Caribbean - and Winston would make us the most amazing spread of food and everyone LOVED it. I'm so glad they're still open. The only thing I'd change is I wish I didn't have to wait another hour for them to be open (lightly drools)! read more

I moved to Austin about 3 years ago from the east coast. I missed good Caribbean food sooo much, especially Jamaican. When I came across your restaurant I knew that I had to try it. It's a new found love, but I love Winston's! The jerk chicken ... the curry chicken plate ... plantains ... and their signature hot sauce. Yum for real. I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. Today my girlfriend and I had the Jerk Chicken and the Chicken Curry. Both were amazing. Both the chicken and accompanying sides were so flavorful. Curious to try the fried plantains and chicken wings as well next time, they aren't on the ordering menu thru Yelp, so next time I'm going to call and see if they have plantains and wings before I order. If they are anywhere as close to as good as the entrees we ate, they will be amazing. read more

We got the curry chicken and jerk chicken plates to go. SO delicious!! First time ever having Caribbean food. You can tell this food is cooked with love. The chicken was so tender and smokey, fell off the bone. The portions were huge and was able to save some for lunch the next day :) . The dark spicy sauce it came with was delicious as well! Very very hot, so I would taste it first before pouring it over everything if youre not crazy about extra spicy food. We will be back! read more

This food is delicious and the serving sizes are large. Highly recommend the jerk chicken and the beef patty. The original hot sauce is tasty, the "Comes in hot" sauce is even more so w/ serious heat. If you even remotely think this food needs a little something, dab a little of that liquid fire and you won't regret it. For those ordering on Grubhub, their delivery arrived ahead of the delivery window and they were very responsive, honest and respectful when I called in about an issue. Y'all.. this place is the BEES-KNEES. Just order their wings and trust me. Slow cooked, and pulls right off the bone. Legit Jamaican goodness. The slow cooked smoked jerk chicken w cabbage, red beans and rice plate was amazing. Top it with their homemade hot sauce. The beef patty w/ hot sauce was a great appitizer. The fact they were playing roots reggae sealed the deal. read more

Wow oh wow, that was a surprise of a really dinner for my family!!! We had a bit of everything: 2 jerk chicken, curry chicken, chicken wrap & 2 beef patties. It was all absolutely wonderful!, but loved the jerk chicken & wrap the most 'cause the chicken just slid off the bone w/extra nice spice to it! One of my favorite spots in town but the hours are shotty. Best curry I've ever had, very generous portions. 1 plate feeds me and my girlfriend. Don't forget to get the imported Jamaican root beer and make sure you get the mango hot sauce. read more

Checked out the new food trucks at Saint Elmo for the first time last night and ate at Winston's. Food was authentic and delicious, portions were generous, atmosphere was laid back. We had the curry and jerk chicken, which were both great. The jerk chicken has a smoky flavor that any Texan would appreciate. Highly suggest paying these guys a visit! read more

Winston, the master chef, with nearly 60 years of experience, oversees every aspect of the preparation. Born and raised in St. Mary's parish Jamaica, Winston began cooking for his family as early as 7 years old. He began cooking for the public at around 12 when the old man down the road asked him to help him out cooking for a wedding. Winston, already being afraid of nothing in the kitchen, said OK. And so it began ... Winston has been cooking his whole life; he loves it and you will too!

You definitely have to trust the process here because it doesn't look like a gourmet presentation. The food does taste good. Once we closed our eyes and dove in, the kitchen totally redeemed itself. The flavors were surprisingly authentic and very close to what I love about Jamaican cooking. The meat was super tender and full of flavor, the rice was nicely seasoned, and the fried plantains were a sweet, and delicious. Tony's has a ton of potential because the chef clearly has skills. BUT, for $50, I do wish the restaurant had a bit more energy, brighter lights, and prettier plating. Personally, I feel as though their prices are a little steep for what you get. If you don't mind a super casual, dark atmosphere and messy presentation, the tasty seasoning makes it worth a try.

We had a reservation at 8 am right when they opened, and when we walked in, we were seated immediately. The place looks like a modern twist on the old-school diners your grandparents love. There's also an upstairs and downstairs patio. Plenty of space! We were sat at one of the two-person tables. To start, I ordered their house drip coffee while my girlfriend got their "Lil Remi," an iced cappuccino with salted caramel. The black coffee was excellent and flavorful, while my girlfriend thought her Lil Remi was like a milkier shaken espresso that she really liked. From their starters, we ordered their Blueberry Lemon Pop Tart to share. For being an upscale diner in the prime area of Austin, I knew Paperboy was going to be pricey, but I honestly thought that it would crack $100 before tip between the two of us. I was very happy to see it was not even close to that and cost us about $80 with tip. To me, that felt fair for Austin, and I would pay that price any day of the week for a breakfast like we had. Yum! Yum! Gimme Some! Great Jerk Chicken and Caribbean Fare. Most know of his Jerk, Curry, and Fish Plates, but he is Master of much more. Surprisingly great Jamaican food from an inconspicuous food truck that you could easily miss driving by. Opted for the jerk wings, and while they were packed with flavor, they erred slightly on the dry side. Unfortunately, the curry chicken was unavailable that night due to a curry shortage, which left me a tad disappointed. On a brighter note, the brisket proved to be a succulent delight, and I wholeheartedly endorse giving it a try. Overall, a pleasantly surprising experience, and I'd certainly recommend exploring more of their menu. read more
