    Jerk chicken plate

Has this popped up on your radar? Run toward it. Making a Costco run? Skip their food court and come here instead. Delightful Caribbean food truck. I tried basically every version of their jerk chicken and it was all fabulous. The WINGS ARE BOMB. Absolute stars here. I don't know how they are usually prepared in the Caribbean, but here they appear to have come out of the smoker. Life-changing. Fall off the bone and tender smokiness that makes you wanna pop these into your mouth continuously. The greatest thing too is that they sell these by the piece ($1.25 each). That means that you don't have to commit to a dozen at once, and can try other foods too. Or you know, order more once you realize you didn't order enough. Their plates: don't sleep on their rice and veggies! They are delicious but not overpowering in flavor which you absolutely need with all the jerk flavor lighting up your mouth. Their wrap: i was actually too full by the time we opened this (the goal was to save this for the next day), but the little bite I had was wonderful -- super flavorful! But I'm Asian and i like my rice. Fried plantains: loooove these. So yeah, I was too full and told myself that I would save the cake for later too. But a little bite now, just to taste. Whoops, ate it all and have no cake left to enjoy later. Maybe we should have bought one for now and one for later?

Burnt chicken and rice and peas.....that is what the jerk chicken taste and smells like. I ordered it to go and when I got back to my place the smell overtook the house. My daughter who is young and usually eats some of whatever I'm eating would not even eat the food. She tasted it and spit it out. I could barely finish the food. My wife ordered the curry chicken with rice and peas and it was a bit better. However, the food lacked authentic Jamaican taste and seasoning. It lacked salt and rice tasted burnt. Jamaican rice is usually a Shelly style of rice and this was not. I would like to think this was maybe an off day and possibly because it was close to closing time it may have been the bottom of the pot. (If it was it should have never been served) But on a lighter note, the portions were more than generous. The cashier was very pleasant and the venue is very unique. So all in all, if your looking for a Jamaican vibe it's not a bad place to visit but if you know real Jamaican food and your a foodie this one ain't it.

Laid back spot in S Austin w gtop notch service before you even get to the food. Tasty options Had a lil of everything. Beef patties were flavorful w a light flaky crust. Snapper was well seasoned and cooked, crispy outside , light and tender inside ( my fav ) offered in 2 sizes. Curry was light yet flavorful. Jerk Chicken was on point. Had wings as well, a lil dry could have just been an off day no problem tho for the price ( next time ) . I was warned of the level of spiciness, but they could have kicked it up a notch or 2 for me. But you can get Mr Winston's saice on the side a def must. Also bottled and sold $4/ bottle. All in all a good visit w many more planned. Thank guys

From the food to the service and vibes everything here was amazing. Tried the jerk chicken plate and fried plantains for the first time and loved both.

Ordered Curry Chicken plate Beef Patty Food was delicious but wait was long. Almost an hour and the way the food was pictured isnt how it was served. We thought the food would come with cabbage (as pictured) but it didnt so we had to ask for that additional but it was delicious. Winston the owner and chef was friendly welcoming. The place is in a food truck area near the Barn bar which plays live music and has outdoor seating and free parking. Found a hidden gem in South Austin

Got the jerk chicken & a side of plantain. I was surprised how amazing the plantain were considering there aren't many reviews about them? So good I would legitimately come back for 5 orders of plantain. Called ahead & got it for take out, by the time I got home the food was still piping hot & perfect condition! The jerk chicken order was okay, I didn't get sauce bc I thought it would come w a small amount/thought the spiciness in the reviews was also from seasoning. I typically like spicy food, the chicken alone wasn't as flavorful as I thought it would be so would recommend getting the sauce if you're into that. I'll probably order the curry chicken next visit. Portions were very well!

Jerk Chicken Plate, Beef Brisket Wrap, side of plantains.

The food here was DELICIOUS. We ordered the Jerk Chicken Plate and Brisket Wrap with a side of plantains. The chicken had a flavorful, smoky crust with tender and juicy meat inside. I savored every bite. The brisket was tender which paired nicely with the crispy red cabbage and chewy outer wrap. The plantains were sweet and salty, a nice accompaniment. We will be back.

Tons of meat in the jersey chicken wrap.

My original review used the term jersey chicken. I don't know what that is. Probably spell check error. It should have been jerk chicken.

I got the jerk plate (two drumsticks and a thigh it could use a tad more seasoning) that comes with cabbage and rice and peas. Cabbage was a little different then what I'm use to but the whole plate was legit! If you go and you open up ur box and notice that there's no jerk sauce, (I was heated) don't be alarm they put it on the side (two of them). Next time when I come back I am going to order the red snapper. I hope they add beef pattie with coco bread and cheese and Oxtail plate.

What is the best time to go on the weekends? Gone up there a few times after 11 am when it says they're open and they aren't.

Hi Briana, I would say wait until 12 or 1. They should probably change their open hours until later but you could call first (512) 541-6282 to check.

My mum has always loved this flavour and she did not enjoy it too much. From speaking with Tony Jr. today, they also have a restaurant in Pflugerville. I ordered jerk chicken, which fell off the bones and came with cabbage, rice and peas and plantain. I have traveled to Jamaica a couple of times, this Jamaican food was the real deal. The jerk chicken was a bit spicey but not set your tongue on fire spicey. The rice and peas along with the cabbage was perfectly seasoned. The standout for me was the sweet plantain, spoken like a plantain connoisseur. The plantain was sweet on the inside and slightly charred on the outside...perfect combination. The only improvement would have been for me to get a side of plantain. My food was delivered fast and hot. Tony Jr. was super personable and friendly. There is seating in the center of the food truck park. You hear tunes being played in the background. The food truck park is at the core of East Austin in a semi-residential area. Street parking is available for diners. I look forward to trying curry goat and oxtails and more.

For a regular (as opposed to their large) size plate it felt like a good amount of oxtail I thought based on the description the gungo rice would have a more prominent coconut taste but it was pretty typical Jamaican peas and rice. We decided to eat at Bikkle, close to the University of Texas at Austin on Guadalupe Street. Bikkle is known for its authentic Jamaican cuisine such as jerk chicken, oxtails (hard to find anywhere anymore) and curry goat. Between the four of us, we ordered jerk chicken, curry goat, and curry chicken. We all went for red beans and rice with cabbage. All dishes came with plantain, which is one of my favorites. Having been to Jamaica a couple of times, I can report out that this food is authentic! The flavors were swirls of goodness in every bite. The food was also warm when served. We also ordered jerk chicken egg rolls. Just think about that concept for a minute. The jerk chicken egg rolls were exceptionally good. The highlight for me was the curry goat. First, you do not find goats on many menus. The curry goat was tender and oh so flavorful. Some pieces had associated fat. All in all, everyone was happy with their meals. During our dinner, only one person was serving customers. She was super friendly and personable. I must think she was overworked as the stream of customers came in. Now for the décor...if you walked in and looked only at the counter, you would have thought it was a "to go" restaurant only as many "to go" containers were stacked high on the counter. Only one other couple sat down and ate in the restaurants and most folks were picking up their food to go. Even the people eating inside the restaurant were served in "to go" containers. The inside is minimalist with no ornate furnishings and yellow walls, projecting a Caribbean feel. Recommend adding a bit more Jamaican artifacts such palm trees, Jamaican flag, surfboard, etc. It would be a great spot for students, friend meet ups and a causal date night... Bikkle Jamaican Restaurant it was great and represented authentic Jamaican food well! We definitely will be returning.

While the kitchen definitely knows how to bring the flavor, the rest of the experience was less than exceptional. When we walked in, I asked the staff for their local favorites. I expected them to say jerk chicken, but they immediately suggested the oxtail. It felt a little bit like they were trying to clear out the fridge, but we decided to be adventurous and ordered both the oxtail and the chicken anyway. With two sodas, the total came out to about $50. The counter help seemed not overly enthusiastic about us being there, but we drove a distance to get here. The first thing we noticed was the lighting--or lack thereof. It was so darkly lit inside that it felt a bit gloomy, almost like they were trying to save on the electric bill. When our food arrived in plastic boxes, the presentation was a bit of a mystery. It looked messy and "muddy" on the plate, to the point where I didn't even snap a photo. You definitely have to trust the process here because it doesn't look like a gourmet presentation. The food does taste good. Once we closed our eyes and dove in, the kitchen totally redeemed itself. The flavors were surprisingly authentic and very close to what I love about Jamaican cooking. The meat was super tender and full of flavor, the rice was nicely seasoned, and the fried plantains were a sweet, and delicious. Tony's has a ton of potential because the chef clearly has skills. BUT, for $50, I do wish the restaurant had a bit more energy, brighter lights, and prettier plating. Personally, I feel as though their prices are a little steep for what you get. If you don't mind a super casual, dark atmosphere and messy presentation, the tasty seasoning makes it worth a try.
