My family ends up at Wok Bar pretty frequently. We all enjoy the food so when we can't decide on where to go Wok Bar is one of our safe choices. Basically you pick your fillings and put it in a basket. Then they weigh it and you can either get it in a soup or stir fried. They cook the food pretty quickly so it's not a bad choice for a quick meal. You tell them what level of spice you want and I always go for medium or lower. When they say it's spicy, it's SPICY. The medium can have me sweating a little bit it's still flavorful. They have a good variety of vegetables, noodles, fish balls, and meats to choose from. Though I think I like some of the variety at other places better. Overall it's a fun experience. During my last visit they were running an anniversary special for Hot Pot at $9.99/lb rather than the usual $14.99/lb. I decided to give it a shot for the first time. I wasn't much of a fan of the broth. It had a tanginess that I didn't really appreciate. I much prefer the dry pot. The service is friendly and the place is clean. They don't have a parking (though that's pretty standard in the area) so sometimes it gets annoying. I know I'll end up back at Work Bar in the future, but next time I'll stick to the dry pot (stir fry).

Came for the $10/lb special and was super worth!! The ingredients are very fresh and the mix of the spices for their dry pot is great. The "spicy" flavor is pretty strong. We got the Sesame Cold Noodles to try as well and loved the creaminess and nuttiness of it. They gave complimentary tanghulu for dessert, but we felt it was way too sticky for our liking. Overall a good experience tho and great option for dry pot in the area!

Wok Bar is my go to dry pot spot. It's a DIY place, where you grab a bowl and tongs, pile on the ingredients at the buffet, and bring the bowl to the register. The cashier will weigh your bowl, and you can choose to have them prepare a dry pot or a hot pot, in one of three spice levels. I usually go for level 2 spice since it's pretty spicy. They also offer a few other menu items, including grilled skewers, but I usually just get a bowl of dry pot. It costs $15.99 per pound, so the price can get pretty high depending on how much you fill your bowl. Service can be slow at times, but there aren't many dry pot options in the area.

I ordered takeout and the food was pretty subpar IMO. What I ordered: 1. Yeung chow fried rice - Not authentic. It was basically just spam fried rice with hardly any shrimps. 2. House special noodle - Not sure why it's "special" in any way. It was just noodles with scrambled eggs on top. 3. Sliced beef in hot chili oil - This one was good, but too little beef. 4. Kung pao chicken - This one was good as well. 5. Shredded pork in garlic sauce - Pork pieces were too thick and should've been cut more thinly. Also, stop using big pieces of celery as filler.

A clean little shop off Lemoine Rd and inside you are greeted and seated. There you can order some grilled items like skewers or food cooked off of the menu. If you want to have the dry hotpot, you get to pick up a bowl and tongs and then select the items you want from the refrigerator unit as well as the freezer for the meat. We had some skewers with squid and rice cake which were good, a little on the sweet instead of spicy side for small spicy squid tentacles. For the not spicy rice cake skewer, they still applied the cumin which was nice. The yang chow fried rice came out first, quick and hot, kids liked that. The eggplant in garlic sauce was sweet and a little spicy which I liked, using the thinner Japanese eggplant, but was very greasy. The glutinous rice cake had the soybean powder already placed on the rice cake which I actually don't like, and the brown sugar sauce was a bit light. The rice cake itself wasn't puffed up and fluffy like a well grilled or cooked version would be, it was a little actually disappointing. Most people come here for the dry hot pot though, and you have a great selection of a different vegetables and meats to choose from in your own quantity so you can design your own dry hot pot. Once you select your ingredients, they go to weigh it and cook it in the kitchen to your desired spiciness level. It was good at small spicy for me but I have had better overall flavor from other ma la dry hot pot shops. Next time we'll have to try medium spicy. Drinks here are from the cooler and can be a bit expensive, just ask how much before you take and drink if you're on a budget.

Always good, whenever I crave for something spicy. Will definitely try their other items.

My first time eating at Wok Bar - famous for Malatang - spicy hot pot. 1 lb = almost $14 Among the 3 of us, we ordered shrimpt fried rice ($14), hot pot (2) and dry hot pot ($18) & comes with a bowl of rice) The spicy hot pot was quite pleasant, and the soup was not too overpowering. The dry noodles came to me strange since the Mala was quite strong.I could feel the certain numbness of my to tongue. But, it was very enjoyable. I would definitely try the soup version next time.

Great spot in NJ where you can build your own hotpot. Their service was not bad - they give you bottle water instead of tap water. And the restaurant interior was not too special (it's not like fancy restaurant). They have two options: hot pot & dry hot pot. It has the right spice level and fresh ingredient (you can pick your own ingredients & spicy level). Meats and veggies mixed with a perfection - not too sweet, not too spicy. BUT, I think the spicy level is different everyday. I usually order medium-level spicy, and sometimes it was really spicy and sometimes it was okay. I also ordered some skewers which I didn't really satisfied. The beef was little tough, and the Chinese spices were little strong for me. I wouldn't order skewers next time.

Blown away. I've wanted to try this place for a while. Must come back! Medium level is quite kicking. If you order the dry hot pot, be sure to ask for rice on the side. The Sichuan spice coats everything. Didn't try the skewers this time but next time I think ill try one of each. I'm just so glad this place is so close to me, and I don't need to go all the way to flushing to get Sichuan spiced dry hot pot. Medium spice dry hot pot 5/5 Kung pao chicken 5/5 Street parking available. Service was attentive and helpful. So many dessert places right next door!

Deliciously spicy. WokBar is a great spot for some Chinese dry pot. Really enjoyed going to Chinese food places with my friends in New York back in the day. Hard to find many Chinese food places in North Jersey that fully commit to Chinese cuisine rather than the asian fusion platter of having a mediocre selection Korean, Japanese, and Chinese food on your menu. Instead WokBar has a pretty simple selection of mostly just Dry and Hot Pot, and some skewer. Ordered Medium for the first time and it was great. Pretty salty and the rice is definitely needed, but thats how it normally goes with DryPot. If the saltiness is an issue for you , you could potentially ask them to alter it slightly for you. Price was pretty solid. My dish was around $24 and I had to save pretty much half of it. Would definitely come back to WokBar again to try a higher spicy level.

Literally go here everyday lol you get to choose your own portion of veggies and meats. Service is ok to be honest but the food itself is so good! I usually get dried hotpot med mild spicy. You get to choose spicy level. Don't put too much they do charge you by weights. Ambiance is alright. There's a parking place down two stores and mostly street parking. There's also a plenty of parking places (during weekdays) in a plaza right across.

Was violently craving dry hot pot. Came here on a Thursday night around 8pm and there was a lot of tables available. We picked our own veggies and meat and drinks as well as a side of fried buns. Food came out very quick and was delicious. Cravings satisfied

Since the closing of Phoenix Garden (Cantonese) in Manhattan I've been searching for authentic…read moreChinese food. I haven't been to many Szechuan Chinese restaurants but Hot Fish is easily the best Chinese food in NJ by a long shot. I'm vegetarian so can't comment on meat dishes but the salt & pepper tofu is out of this world (though if you get it via takeout be mindful of the white doily-style round paper on the bottom of the plastic container which I assume is there to soak up excess oil, but is not edible). I'm going to Hot Fish for takeout today and will be getting the salt & pepper tofu dish as well as their Kung Pao tofu which I'm excited to try. The garlic flavored broccoli is spectacular and may be my favorite dish. It somehow tastes even better reheated the next day (the sauce probably gets absorbed more). Ordering at least two of those -- the garlic sauce used in it is truly unique and remarkably delectable. If you're not a fan of mushrooms you need to request no "fungus" as that's how they refer to mushrooms. The veggie fried rice is as good as I've ever had and I love that it's served white rather than the typical soy sauce stained brown fried rice that's much more common. The egg & scallion fried rice is also wonderful and doesn't contain any fungus, unlike the veggie fried rice. Be sure to try the marinated cucumber appetizer. It has a warm, numbing spice to it and is absolutely fantastic. Edemame is good. Sauteed green beans are remarkably good -- almost as good as the garlic broccoli. Come to think of it, I haven't had a bad dish yet. Or even one that wasn't above average. This place is legitimately amazing. Authentic, consistent, and an exceptional dining experience. If I could better express just how much I love the food at Hot Fish I would, I simply lack the descriptive language needed to properly convey just how wonderful the flavor combinations and perfectly textured veggies and tofu taste and leave you feeling after the meal is finished. The chef(s) and kitchen staff are truly talented and consistent, the latter being extremely important as most people want to have the same dish when they find one they love and return to the restaurant again. Inconsistency can really hurt a restaurant and one's desire to eat there again. My only criticism is that Hot Fish isn't closer to my home, because I would genuinely like to eat their at least once a week if not more but since it's over 30 minutes away it makes eating their regularly more difficult. But it has always been well worth the trip. So glad this place opened -- it's the best Chinese food in the NYC/NJ area and has quickly become my favorite restaurant. I'm surprised the current Yelp rating is only 4.2/5.0, though that is very good score and you can't please everyone especially with spicy food which some Americans just aren't accustomed to. I'm interested in how the rating will change over time since they've been open for less than a year. The photo is of salt & pepper tofu and you can see the white doily I mentioned earlier, though with takeout its almost completely hidden when th container is full. While I haven't eaten there myself, my family has and they said the food is even better when you eat there and remarked that the atmosohere is very nice, clean, comfortable, and doesn't have any obnoxious attributes like extremely loud music or lighting so faint you can't see your food. All in all a wonderful addition to the Bergen county food scene and a blessing for those who DO like it HOT (spicy)!

I (loved everything I) ordered: - Pork Soup Dumplings: You get 6 dumplings, and they are served with black vinegar. The dumpling size is pretty decent, and the pork filling is seasoned well. - Mini Wonton in Chili Oil: You get 8 wontons, and by NO means are they "mini"! To me, they are regular sized. You can tell they are homemade - the wonton skin is delicate (not thick, but not thin) and holds up the chili oil really well. This is hands down my favorite version out of all the ones I've tried at other places - the reason being is that the wontons are not drowning in the chili oil. - Cucumber in Garlic Sauce: Goodness, this is my favorite version of this dish. The sauce is phenomenal, and the garlic gives it a nice kick/bite. I could just eat this and a bowl of rice, and call it a day. - Stir-Fried Shredded Pork w. Chinese Celery & Bean Curd: SO flavorful. The bean curd is firm and has a noodle like texture, so it holds up really well to the pork. I don't hate celery, but it's not my favorite green - in this dish though, I LOVE it lol. - Bok Choy w. Shitake Mushrooms: not salty and clean tasting. This is a great vegetable side dish. - Stir-Fried Beef Chow Fun: This was great! What really did it for me is that they actually incorporated scrambled eggs into the dish (and the eggs were nicely seasoned). I also loved the fact that instead of onion, they paired it with cabbage. I heart you.

I used to come here pretty often before COVID because it was one of the few Chinese restaurants…read morethat didn't serve takeout style Chinese food in Bergen county. So I was in the mood for some authentic Chinese and thought I'd check this place out again. The interior is nicer and more updated than it was back then but the food has fallen off dramatically. Me and my very hungry family of 4 ordered 6 dishes and each one fell well below my expectations. 1. Young chow fried rice: The rice and egg were seasoned well but the meat wasn't. My 9 year old even commented that the shrimp in it tasted like nothing. Overall probably the best dish we ordered flavor wise. The portion size is much smaller than before though but I chalk that up to every business basically giving you less for more nowadays. 2. String beans: A decent dish although it wasn't evenly seasoned. Some bean stalks were incredibly salty while others were perfect. It lacked the usual sauce that other Chinese restaurants usually pour onto the plate so they were pretty dry as well. Again the portion size was lacking to say the least. 3. Beef chow fun: Go to any Chinese restaurant in a Chinatown in a city and they all look basically the same dark brown color with large tender slices of beef. Here: light brown bordering on just slightly tan, under seasoned with small chewy or tough pieces of beef. They did add a bunch of mixed vegetables into it, which I appreciated but again, it lacked any flavor. The portion size for this was at least acceptable but definitely not to the size standards I'm used to from any Chinatown. 4. Sweet and sour pork: Originally I wanted the Peking pork chops which they used to make before COVID. I thought this would be an acceptable substitute, but I was very wrong. There was no crisp to the supposedly fried pork and although the sauce can soften the pork to a degree, that certainly was not the case here. It was either pre-made or re-heated and came out just kind of soft and soggy. The sauce was reminiscent of the kind of sauce you get at takeout Chinese or at those AYCE Chinese buffets. The portion size was good but nobody wanted to finish it. 5. Pork soup dumplings: This place used to have some of the best soup dumplings around. It is shocking how far down the quality has gone down on these. Although edible and more than enough to satiate my kids cravings, they are a far cry from what they were and what could be had from other restaurants in the vicinity. 6. Prawns w/walnuts: Without a doubt the worst dish of the meal. We were expecting the typical fried shrimp with walnuts with mayo sauce that we gotten here plenty of times pre-COVID. Now the shrimp looks like a typical battered shrimp technique similar to what you'd see at those kids stations at AYCE Chinese buffets and not the highly technical dish you'd find at any authentic Chinese restaurant. The sauce was also some sticky, drippy, yellow concoction and not the typical mayo based thick, white sauce. The broccoli garnish also tasted old, not cleaned properly, and bordering on raw when it is normally steamed and softened. It was so bad we barely touched it and had to tell the waitress about our disappointment in it. The thing that upsets me the most is the deception. All the most recent reviews on Yelp hyped this place up. The restaurant portrays itself as an authentic Chinese restaurant. Maybe we ordered the wrong dishes, but this place is a Chinese takeout restaurant masquerading as a authentic Chinese restaurant. Honestly Chinese takeout would have been better than this place. Hopefully they can get their act together and improve the food before the real truth gets out.

I'll definitely be back before the season ends. The seafood pan-fried noodles never disappoint, and I also ordered another longtime favorite, the clay pot eggplant. Both dishes were excellent, as always. Highly recommended for anyone looking for authentic Chinese food and consistently great flavors. The owner, Tony, always greets guests warmly and makes everyone feel welcome. Our waiter, Peter, was attentive and provided excellent service throughout the meal. It's an all-around enjoyable dining experience, made even better by the beautiful Hudson River waterfront view. A true neighborhood gem that keeps us coming back.

I'll start by saying that I still think River House is the best Chinese restaurant locally ,but…read moretoday I tried their shrimp and broccoli and it was somewhat disappointing. The shrimp potion , as expected is always less than chicken entrees. But this wasn't the main issue. The shrimp had a stronger than usual seafood taste like it wasn't thoroughly washed and the texture was tougher than in used to like it was possibly overcooked. The sauce was god and the broccoli tasty but the shrimp was a little offputting. I'm not sure I would order the shrimp and broccoli again.
