This place is a classic hole in the wall restaurant. We came here on a Sunday and the restaurant was completely empty. I find that interesting because the food here is amazing. It is very authentic as the owners were very nice and polite. They were having their lunch in the middle and we thought we were the bad guys disturbing their meals. We ordered vegetarian dishes and I highly recommend this place if you are vegetarian. We ordered the Wok special Tofu and the General Taos Tofu. The General Taos Tofu was a little bit more spicy but we didn't think it was spicy at all. Definitely got more Tofu with General Taos. The Wok Special Tofu had also its unique taste as it came with a lot more vegetables. Both had the Tofu fried and dipped into its unique sauce. Service always seem friendly and efficient when I come pickup my takeout order. No complaints there. I have rated Wok 2-stars because of food poisoning that my wife and I experienced on a recent order. A couple of weeks ago we ordered takeout and I got a horrible bout of stomach distress and diarrhea. Not good and definitely something they are doing/not doing back in the kitchen. Generally, the appearance of the entrance and restaurant looks like cleanliness is not a top priority. I seriously doubt that the Wok will be on any future ventures. Be careful. I came here for my birthday in December, and we really enjoyed ourselves. The server we had was a super nice guy from California and made great recommendations to us. I decided to try the orange tofu, which was good but it had zero spice to it whatsoever. On the menu it has the little chili symbol, so I was looking forward to a spicy dish and got only sweet. The Wok restaurant was filled with Chinese tourists ordering family style food. It was Christmas, and we were grateful to continue the century-long family tradition of eating Chinese on this day. Having not eaten here before, we had high hopes. We were seated fairly quickly but unable to place an order for 30 minutes! I know it was the busiest night of the year; however, one would expect that a restaurant would anticipate and staff enough people to meet the needs of their capacity. The servers were clueless about basic customer communication and didn't set realistic expectations for anyone they were seating. It was painful to watch this trainwreck. When the food came out much later, it was ok. The people around us seemed to find their food edible, but maybe it was because they were starving after waiting for an hour. Our dishes were extremely salty. About a third way through, I could have guzzled a gallon of water, if only there were someone to get it from. Not sure I will want to go back for many reasons, though I do appreciate these folks are trying to run a business in Santa Fe. read more

We have eaten at many Chinese restaurants over the years and must say the Wok is among the best. The Wu Wonton soup was a feast of many favors and full of ample portions. We did not see a Happy Family dish on the menu but when we asked, the owner, Nancy said the chef would make one. He did and it was literally the best we have had. Christmas evening in Santa Fe, not many choices for an evening meal, why not Chinese? The Wok was busy as it seemed that some staff was off for the night, our service was slow but they did apologize. We placed our orders and soon soup and appetizer were brought to our table. Our meal was served, Lemon Chicken, two breast in a crispy batter, as for the sauce that should have been drenched on the chicken it was missing or so tasteless it was not noticed. Since Chinese food is usually served without knives or cutting tool you would expect the chicken to be bite size or tender enough to be cut with a fork or eaten with chop sticks. Our chicken was so tough that cutting it with a fork was impossible. Back to the tasteless sauce that was on the chicken, you would expect a sweet sauce that has the tangy zing of lemons, not so tonight. Not even a lemon slice to garnish the plate. The food has declined in the last couple of months. The sauces for the spicy dishes are identical, and way over spiced. There was something else going on with the food also as I had significant GI issues 6-8 hours later, as did my dining companion. I have a high chile tolerance, so that was not the issue. Horrible customer service. I entered this place post lunch hour (3 pm). I was hungry. Place was empty and was told by one of the servers to take a seat at any table. I sat in front of a television on a 6 seater table. I was then told by the same server to sit elsewhere. I didn't bother, b/c there was no one in the restaurant and I was given the liberty to choose a table. Then the owner came in and asked me to sit at another table that is meant for 1-2 seater. That just pissed me off. I wasn't offered water, food, menu or anything else besides being asked to serve the authoritarian staff. I left the restaurant. When I arrived I remembered that I had been to Wok's quite a few times in 2006 and had always been very happy with their food.
