I really want to love this place.... The employees are nice and the food is good, but they are painfully slow. It is obvious they have poor management that does not train the servers for efficiency and does not schedule enough staff for a busy dinner rush. I was looking for a great place to eat when I was in Foley AL, and this place popped up. We were going to go to Lamberts and it was packed as always. This place is literally down the street and beets Lamberts by a longshot! I ordered the lobster bisque and it was amazing and had huge chunks of lobster. Would give a zero because we NEVER got serviced. Stood around the bar for about 10 minutes. Was told by someone who worked there that we could sit at the high table by the bar, after sitting there for another 10 minutes with not so much as a hello, I walked to the bar to ask the servers if we could get menus or if someone was serving the area. The bartender said she would get to us when they could. While waiting, I noticed that she was serving everyone that walked up to the bar but we never got ANY service. 30 minutes of my life wasted with no so much as a sip of water. I visited here and was very impressed. The atmosphere was great the staff was very friendly and wanted to be sure that we had a great dining experience. The food was prepared to our liking and came to us hot which is an added bonus. I never ran short on tea or water. It was a surf and turf night and wasn't disappointed. Horrible experience. Was told it would be a 45 minute wait. We stood BY THE GREETERS DESK for an hour and a half. When asked when we were to be seated, they looked confused, asking what number were we. Then we were told we were skipped over because we were signed in at the bottom of a page. We were seated at the next available table. The waitress took our drink orders, then forgot mine, and after a hour and a half wait, I almost begged for an ice cube. The entree's were not what we expected, especially for the price. And some parts of the salad bar were empty. Will not be going back. read more

The hostess, Maranda, was great. She was alone and it was very busy. I asked if the bar was seated by the host stand and she said no. It was first come first serve. I walked to the bar and asked the bartender with the silver hair if any tables were coming available. She jumped down my throat and screamed the hostess doesn't know what she was talking about and basically ripped me a new one for even asking her a question. Visited here upon the suggestion of a local on a fishing trip. We were seated in the promised 15-20 minutes, maybe even a little quicker. Server was nice and attentive. I wore the poor girl out with refill requests as I had fished all day and was dehydrated. Started with tuna dip, it was OK and the fried pita chips were a nice touch. I asked the server between the special of the night, a grouper dish, and seafood pasta, and she told me seafood pasta. I have a feeling I should have gone the other way. It wasn't bad, just LOTS of pasta and cream sauce in ratio to the small to medium shrimp, scallops, and a little bit of tasso. The sauce was tasty, but would have been much better with larger shrimp and a better balance of seafood to pasta. My daughter had the catfish po-boy and did quite enjoy it, and she knows here fish. My wife was ready for a change of pace from seafood and ordered the Hula Burger, which unfortunately was a frozen burger patty with a slice of pineapple, the caramelized onions were missing. She said it was fine, and I usually take the blame for ordering a non-seafood entrée somewhere like this, but you would at least think they would serve an actual hamburger as opposed to a pre-formed, what appeared to be a Bubba Burger. Overall, there wasn't enough to complain about and we left full, so it wasn't a total failure. The salad bar is a nice touch, and the waitress was very sweet. But there are just too many places and not enough time when I am down in OB to not really love my meal, so this one wouldn't be at the top of my list. read more

I took my mother to Wolf Bay on a visit to Foley. The hostess was friendly, asks us to follow her, then directs us in the opposite direction of the main restaurant -- to a windowless low-rent-looking annex, filled with empty card-table looking furniture, with no other people. We were just like, don't you have something else? Then a guy appears (the manager?) and tells us they offer this room to people who don't want to wait. But it was before 6pm and the main room was only half full, there was no wait, so huh? Then he and hostess said they "had to at least try" as we then went to the main area -- I have no idea what that meant. We should have left then, but we stayed; though we felt pretty weird about the initial experience, my mother felt insulted that we had been profiled somehow, and it ruined the night. The last year WB has gone down, wrong cooked food, poor service, I've even watched people eat while they cook the food. We went a couple of weeks ago, and I've heard the gumbo was good. So thought I'd try it. Blah. It was cold and a small bowl for the price. . Very disappointed with the price increases. The portion sizes are also smaller. My wife loves the fried shrimp platter, I'm allergic to seafood so I always get the fried chicken. We knew what we wanted, so we didn't really look closely at the menu. Since we have been there many, many times. The salad bar used to be included as a side (your choice) with the price of entree, not any more!! Entree prices have been increased, with fewer sides. We used to love this place, we are locals not tourist. So I hope the unaware tourist can support the high prices. I wasn't that hungry and got the salad bar and a cup of gumbo. Since I've had non-stop fried food, I thought at least the salad might be the start of a detox. The salad was just okay. It pays to go off the main drag. What a pleasant surprise! We were looking for a place off the main road for lunch. We both started with a cup of the gumbo. It was good and spicy. Hubby was wishing he had the bowl instead. He ordered the blackened whitefish po boy. It was spicy, done properly and was still moist. The spices were evenly distributed. He really liked it and said he'd order it again. I ordered the crab cake appetizer and the fried green tomatoes. They were yummy as well. The crab cake was the size of a man's palm. Good option if you were to share. The remoulade complemented it well. The fried green tomatoes were awesome. The tang of the green tomato slices against that smoked Gouda mornay sauce was yummy party for your mouth. I'd be tempted to throw some crab or blackened shrimp on that for an entree. Food was alright. But we waited almost 2 hours to be seated. They got every order wrong in some way. People that arrived after us got seated way before us even with the same party size. They didn't offer to compensate after wee complained on waiting to be seated and for food to come out. The managers excuse was it's spring break yet nobody of college age was in sight. This place was awesome! The decor was beautiful and the staff were very welcoming and professional. We started the night off with the Cha cha crab dip which was delicious. It took a long time to get our entrees but I wasn't too upset because it was very busy and we had the salad bar and our appetizer to keep us happy. I ordered the crab cake which was out of this world delicious. I absolutely loved it with the fresh seasonal veggies. My husband got a seafood pasta dish which he enjoyed as well. My aunt and uncle, who are natives to the area, took us here to eat on our last night in town. They said this was their restaurant of choice. We arrived after a short ride and were welcomed by a huge restaurant. It was a Friday night so we were a bit apprehensive the wait would be a good while but fortunately they were able to get us right in and get us seated. The place is massive so that was probably why, although my aunt did tell me that usually there is a wait of 30 minutes to an hour so plan accordingly. We ordered the crab claws and the cha cha crab dip to start out the evening with. Our waitress was fast and efficient but not friendly really (although not rude) and go us our drinks right away. After a short wait of about 20 minutes our appetizers came out. The cha cha crab dip, of which is their house specialty, was especially good and I ate way too much of it...but the crab claws were even better. I guess it's my aunts favorite dish and I can see why...some of the crab meat was huge on each one of them. After about another 15-20 minutes our main entrees came out. My uncle got the lobster plate which looked awesome and he said, well guess what, it WAS awesome. I chose the Greek Alfredo which looked really good but really wasn't as good as I had hoped. The pasta was a bit overcooked for my liking and the shrimp wasn't big enough. They also had too much oil in the plate. The dish just didn't come together. I would not order it again. The seafood that was there though was quite good. My fiances Chicken Alfredo was much better I think. I sampled a few bites of it and the alfredo sauce was incredibly good and creamy and quite tasty and the grilled chicken was just damned good. I'd definitely order that next time, although since it's not seafood I don't know if I'd order it while on vacation (while in the south I try to get seafood as it's so much better than up north). My fiance got a slice of cheesecake to go and all in all the bill was really pretty good considering four people ate and we got both desert and two appetizers and a bunch of seafood. Like I said though, I was kind of letdown by my dish so I'd try something else there next time. I suppose if we go back here I'll have to read a bunch of reviews to see what else is good to try. I do think this place could be really really good depending upon what you order. I would definitely eat here again just for the crab claws! read more

The wolf bay lodge is a legend in its own mind. We are locals and have lived her for well over a decade we have spent many years in Seattle and living along the California coast so we know food and we know seafood... The wolf Bay lodge is a tourist trap as if the obnoxious gift store wasn't the first hint it is basically a big cafeteria with faux wood paneling and generic taxidermy the small bear cub posed as if it was a mean grizzly is just tasteless, there is almost enough room between the tables for two people to get up at the same time but don't try to get up as a waitress goes by or you may cause a traffic jam the lunch plates are all in the twenty dollar range but only worth 9.99 at best and even then the quality would be sub par the portions are about the least they can get away with for the price ... The shrimp Is bland flavorless generic in a Drab batter I'm guessing cheap commercial frozen white shrimp the fried oysters & clams are watery and Gamey the prime rib was what you would Expect from a buffet nothing special and then they want to garnish this with wilted parsley or lettuce very drab looking plates indeed service was minimal at best if someone would have spent enough time with us to be rude it would have been an upgrade overall it's not so much that this was a particularly bad experience but it seemed more like a typical experience of herding cattle through the feed barn for the money and the quality there are way to many better places to go in this same area heck even the shrimp basket would be an improvement ps the salad bar is ok basic selection ok quality only 4 dressings though and all are thick including the Italian hope this helps byeeee read more

This is a restaurant that has changed a lot over the years. Initially, it was just a bait-and-sandwich shop right on Wolf Bay, where you ate from a basket on wooden picnic benches overlooking the water. Now it is an indoor restaurant with taxidermied animals on the walls serving nice food in town. One thing that hasn't changed is the unfriendly staff, unfortunately. The food is good. I had a ribeye sandwich, which consisted of a piece of steak (with a bit too much fat on it) on a hoagie sitting on a bed of fries. It was good. Lots of seafood options, several expensive steak options, sandwiches, burgers - it's become an in-town restaurant sitting mid-way between the casual beach restaurant and the nice dining experience. It's a local classic, always packed with people, and it's worth trying out. You won't be disappointed, but I'd be surprised if you were amazed. Only other comment was that it was outrageously cold inside. Wearing shorts was almost unbearable, which is unusual for a beach town restaurant. Bring a jacket when you go. read more

And not in a friendly, apologetic way - it was in the tone and manner that people use when explaining something to a small child that just doesn't understand. We are done with Wolf Bay.
