This place is 1000x's better than the other AYCE spot in flushing! First, there are actual chairs with backs on them and real tables to sit at, second there isn't ridiculously loud YouTube Ibiza party loops playing on the screens and third, the other customers were more civilized and not goating the serving staff to sit at their table to drink with them instead of doing what they are being paid to do... tend to customers and serve food. Started with most of their beef selections. Meat quality was ok, one of my dinner partners felt one of the steak choices tasted a bit freezer burned but I didn't detect that. The Korean kalbi marinade packed ZERO flavored...It's supposed to be a bit salty and sweet with heavy onion and garlic too, it was none of those, just tasted cheap soysauce... But I digress. The soft marinated pork was actually very good though. Pork skin... not sure what the point of that was so that was a wasted order but the spicy super was super tender and will order more of that next time. Not a big variety of banchan (sides) but their kimchi was over ripe, just the way I like it, and went wonderfully grilled along side the meat, the egg custard was solid and I really liked their soybean paste soup, usually it's just a throw away side they give as a comp but this one was really good. Wasn't quite sure what to make of their spicy rice cake side... It's just pan fried rice cake pieces and then a cold chili paste and rice vinegar "dressing" spooned over it. It was just ok. I'd highly recommend the pork jowl & the kalbi (hmmm, tenderized so well!). And the sides were awesome as well - everyone got a side dish of egg & we ordered extra banchan since we had a party of 14. Came for dinner recently after almost 3 years! The last time I came was pre-pandemic, and I remember I wasn't really wowed by my experience. With our recent visit, however, I was pleasantly surprised! I made reservations for a Friday night about 3-4 days in advance, and we were seated promptly upon whole party arrival. O2 is actually pretty strict on their 100 minute limit, so make sure you get all your orders in before then. There's still a maximim of 3 meat orders at a time, but keep the time limit in mind and get your money's worth in meat! The pork belly here is one my favorites, especially since they provide radish wraps and garlic. Marinated tender kalbi steak, pork jowl, and bulgogi are good too (we actually got bulgogi in error in place of thin brisket, but it was marinated well). The top blade steak is a bit gamey for me, so I'd probably pass on that. Banchan provided include kimchi, beansprouts, pickled radishes, and radish wraps. Aside from the meat, the other dishes here really round out the meal experience, and there's no limit to how many you can order at a time. The stews here are delish - the doenjang jjigae might be one of the best I've had at KBBQ. It has a nice kick to it, and complements the meal well. The beef and radish soup is also really tasty, but definitely needed a pinch of salt (which we added from our sauce platter). We ordered a side salad which provided a refreshing bite in contrast to all the meat, and garlic & jalapenos. I'd skip on the regular lettuce in favor of the salad; the lettuce wraps looked a bit limp. Service here is friendly, but maybe a bit slow when it comes to cooking meats. We didn't mind too much and just flipped it ourselves. Overall, a pleasantly great dining experience with friends! I'd be more open to frequenting O2 again. read more

Went on a saturday. Ordered the lunch special which has a variety of meats, not the fancy kind but basic pork belly, marinated beef, thin briskets, chicken thighs etc. But when the check came, we were charged for the dinner special. The staff informed us that we can't have the lunch special on weekends... but then why not tell us while we were ordering? The dinner special us significantly more expensive, esp. for groups. Also it has steak, flank cut, other more expensive cuts of meat which my table did not order due to the misunderstanding. I can't help but feel that because we ended up paying for a meal special which we couldn't take advantage of, we feel slighted. First time trying O2 in queens and wasn't a fan. I've had the same restaurant in NJ and it was pretty good so coming here should've been the same. First impression... Upon arrival, there was a 10-15 min wait, even though there were tables available. We had a party of 7 and only 2 bottles of water were given to us. Nobody greeted or anything. I was ready to order after 10 minutes and no waiter stopped to assist us in which I had to haul someone over. Ordering was fairly easy since it's such a tiny menu. Food... Honestly, the brisket was pretty good quality. Huge portions were given which I appreciate but the waiters took forever to come back to turn the meat. I had ordered all of the beef and pork dishes. Definitely do not recomm pork jowl as it was very stinky tofu smelling and tasting. So strange! My main complaint were the waiters wouldn't leave tongs on the table and just left our food to burn. We had to use our own chopsticks to turn a ton of meat and it was impossible to do everything. Other than that, the meats weren't marinated enough. A little bland. Service... Not the best. Tbh, only one of the female workers were really kind and friendly. Everyone else practically seem to hate working with customers. It would've been nice if one had mentioned "it's ready to eat" or... Would you like some more? Etc etc. We were celebrating a birthday and had a cake. When we asked for the cake, isn't it obvious to unbox it, stick the candles in and bring it out? I like O2. I really appreciated the ventilation and how spacious the seating was compared to other korean BBQ places I've been to. Naturally you're still going to come out smelling like KBBQ smoke but the air is far less dense in O2 than at other places I've tried. This is a huge plus because if you're going to an AYCE KBBQ place, you're probably already going to have difficulty breathing if you're doing it right. The ventilation and space in O2 makes your life markedly easier. The servers were attentive. Once the cooked meats were 60% eaten, the new batch of meat was brought out. Which meant that we were stuffing ourselves rapidly. We ordered 5 different things from the jump, and we were already finished with those 5 orders within 30 minutes. I'd recommend pacing yourself to maximize the experience and food. That would also mitigate cross-contamination from the raw meat which drips to the cooked meats which are 'lower' on the pot. A way to avoid this would be to collect the cooked meat, but I prefer keeping the meat warmer. The meats are decent to above-average, and the marinade is right, but the mouthfeel for the top blade steak and kalbi had less 'bite.' I'd avoid the pork jowl since it was super oily and fatty. January 1st, 2022. 9pm on a wet, cold, NY night, still whacked from NYE celebrating, finally felt hunger pangs at this late hour. Pre-coronavirus, 9pm in NY is not considered late, but in this new normal, many places now close at 8pm (this place closes at 11pm) We called ahead and made a 9pm reservation with "John". When we arrived, the front of house gentleman says, "no John here", but all was good because it was a cold, wet, wintry night. Plenty of tables available. Front of house G asks for ID, inspected our COVID documents, and then asked for our IDs again. Hmmm, very few customers, no "John" and you need to recheck our IDs after we already provided NYS DLs and COVID cards illustrating 3(!) Pfizer vaccine doses. Perhaps this is the reason for low customer counts? We're happy folks and our table server was young and enthusiastic, really helpful and really transparent (told us that there was no actual "kalbi", just kalbi-like beef cuts). The bonchon was good and plentiful, the meats and squid(yum!) were also acceptable, no complaints whatsoever. We like to cook our own, so no worries with the service. Overall for $37.95, this is a dealio. Gave it 3 stars due to the Hotel California vibe of the front of house "night man" who was not programmed to receive. My usual go to place for AYCE KBBQ. For the meat, I always order the beef brisket and the spicy pork skin. For the sides, I always order the steamed eggs and salad. You know the little side dishes that they provide? You know... the kimchi and the bean sprouts? Cook it on the outer part of the cast iron! After it cooks, you can consume it with the meat that you cooked. They also give a sauce that you can use to dip your meat in. I prefer using this than the 4 tiny sauce plate that they provide. As much as I love this place, their meat quality is not always consistent, particularly with the briskets. Sometimes, the brisket is so saturated with all the fat that it makes it nauseating to eat. Other times, there's barely any. Then, there are those times when it's perfect. You really don't know which one you'll be getting so keep that in mind. If you love meat, this place is a solid choice to go to. But if you're looking for short ribs, you're looking in the wrong place. read more

In a random moment, my boyfriend and I decided to visit O2 BBQ for Sunday evening dinner. Upon entering, we were told it would be a 20-30 minute wait, seemed more like 15 minutes. O2 BBQ offers all you can eat Korean cuisine which you prepare for yourself using table grills. The restaurant itself isn't very spectacular in terms of decor. The ambience was casual and pretty calm with moderate volume of noise. TVs were playing some k-pop music. Once seated, the server turned on our grill and walked away. We weren't sure how this whole process was supposed to go, but we figured it out eventually. The menu is posted on the wall. It features a variety of meats including beef, chicken and pork, as well as organ meats; all pre-seasoned. Only seafood offered was squid. I wish they had offered shrimp or at least cod. We ordered the spicy chicken, kalbi marinated steak, spicy squid, and hanging tender steak with a side of white rice. They offered water for the table which was provided in a large sports bottle. Once we received our protein, we started to prepare it on the grill. It was very easy and fun. We cooked it to our liking and used the accompanying sauces/food items like kosher salt, gochujang sauce (I think), and pickled onion in soy sauce, to enhance the flavor. The food was seasoned well and we both enjoyed everything. On their instagram page I saw people preparing their meals with veggies, we were'nt offered that nor is their any postings on the menu that they are available. It would've made the meal even better. Additionally, the dipping sauces had no labeling. Although many of them were good, it would've been nice to know what they were. Dinner was a base price of $34.95 per person and you can have as much as you want. There is also a seating limit (100minutes) but I did not see them enforcing it. Staff did not really interact with us unless we called them over. Overall, we enjoyed our meal but I think the overall experience itself is missing something. I'm a bit new to kbbq and have been to one other place that was around 2x the price. I'm pretty big on AYCE cause I can eat a lot and it's generally something I enjoy. So to start off I thought all the marinated meat was amazing, the unmarinated not so much, I can't say I was a huge fan. I loved the kalbi as another review suggested, the egg was also amazing. I loved the beef noodle soup as well. I think the main selling point to me was service, the service was amazing and I would come back just for it. So overall I don't care about atmosphere or anything 10/10 for service 8.5/10 for service if you get the marinated meat only (from what I tried) significantly less if you get the unmarinated meat. read more

I gave my name and number and we went across the street to grab a drink. A half hour later my phone rang alerting me that our table was being bused and it would be ready for us in 5 minutes. Most of the staff was friendly but there were a few members of the staff who were totally indifferent to us and the music was pretty loud. Came a little after 1pm on a weekday with my friend. SERVICE: meh, I thought the waiters took a very long time to come help us. They would bring the food, but it took FOREVER for them to cook it for us. Restaurant wasn't even half full. My friend and I literally started cooking the food ourselves. You give a time restriction but it takes forever for the servers to come to you... you do the math. FOOD: Yummy!! No complaints there. A quick note, tables are a little close together and I felt like I was hearing the conversations of the people behind me more than I was hearing my friend. Also with the COVID pandemic, I'm not sure why they didn't space us out more (maybe every other table) until the restaurant actually fills up. O2 BBQ is a small Korean BBQ chain with one branch in New Jersey and another in Bayside Queens. Today, we visited the Bayside location for the first time. A reservation is necessary beforehand because I read that O2 tends to be crowded at all times due to the relatively small dining room. I would say it is a moderately sized dining room. We arrived at around 1 p.m. and had to wait about 10 minutes to get a table. There is a comfortable waiting area just outside the main dining room so it was okay. After we were seated, we were given four banchan. To be honest, I only had a tiny bit of each. What stood out was that the kimchi was a tad salty. There were also dipping sauces on the table such as sesame garlic oil, bean paste, salt and gojujang. There was also a house dipping sauce which was a bit sweet. As for the meats, there were nearly 20 types of meat on the menu. I tried the beef brisket, the hanger steak, the pork skin, pork jowl, small intestine and pork belly. I must say that the meat quality is top notch. The hanger steak was particularly good, so tender when cooked correctly. I also liked the type of grill at O2 because it was huge. Two tongs were provided and guests could tackle grilling duties from both sides of the table. The heat on the grill was also easily adjustable. As for the non-meat dishes, we had the steamed egg dish, green salad and a beef melon soup. All of these dishes were above average. The eggs were tender and puffy, the green salad had a sweet soy sauce dressing and the beef soup had the tenderest chunks of beef you could imagine. As for price, we paid for dinner at $35.95 for adults and $18.95 for kids. The time limit for the buffet is 100 minutes which is a fair amount of time to eat, nearly 2 hours. I have to say that I was scanning around the dining room and I saw a lot of happy customers digging into their grills. The only aspect of the service that you should be aware of is to make eye contact with the waiters if you need more meat or anything else. As with many restaurants, there appears to be less staff these days, so be patient. Nonetheless, I felt we received good service and we would definitely come back for some above average quality Korean BBQ. read more

Definitely recommend calling to make a reservation because the place isn't that big. I would say it seats about 15 tables. When I went on a weekend, they were fully booked and walk ins for would have to wait at least an hour plus. It was $35 for dinner and even though I had a reservation I still waited about 30-40 min for a table. You cook the meat yourself and the service is a little slow. It took a while to flag down someone after i was seated to place an order and when I wanted to order more stuff. They also didn't write down the stuff after you order so I was missing an item each time I ordered something. Overall the food was not bad. This is the best K-BBQ we ever had in Queens ever. Food is great and the meats are fresh and very top choice. The side dishes are not much in variety but were good too (and besides you don't want to load up on sides if you have the opportunity to order the meats). The service is top notch and friendly and they are always asking you if you want more meat after each round. ( some "all you can eats" won't do that and you have to ask for more). The beef, chicken, and pork belly were our favorites and the servers cooked and sliced them up for you to perfection. All these years I thought you can't bring the city to Flushing, but apparently you can. Friday night parking? You're either super lucked out or you're walking approximately 3-4 blocks, with 75% chance of paying the meter. Chance decreases as you increase the distance walked. You are to enter the restaurant and enter your name and the number of your party, then you'll sit on a infamous Korean plastic spin-chairs (used for food-carts in the good old days in Korea) until you are called. You decide if you want to eat here or drive back to Murray Hill to see if you'd get lucky with parking and table there. Unfortunately this is one of the affordable all-you-can-eat BBQ in Flushing so don't be surprised if the waiter doesn't seem like he's in a mood to serve you. 02 offers up AYCE delicious Korean barbecue. The banchans are few as are the sauce options but the main dipping sauce is a perfect compliment to everything grilled. When the sauce is perfect, it's just like the commercial for Franks Red hot sauce "I put that $#@+ on everything!" I learned one thing very quick. Lettuce wraps are not available during lunchtime only dinner. This review covers only lunch service. My friends and I opted for Lunch B which gave you all the meat options not available in Lunch A. Splurge for the few extra dollars and go for the Lunch B! The meat is flavored well. I enjoyed the spicy bulgogi, marinated chicken, pork belly and thin sliced beef. As with most Korean barbecues the servers help you grill and cut up the meat on the grill pan. Word of caution, when you order the fattier cuts of protein with pork skin on the grill. The excessive fat and oil generated will sizzle, pop and launch itself in a perfect trajectory onto your hands and forearm, then followed by you uttering out a few choice expletives. I recommend you don't wear a nice top or shirt unless you want to ruin it. The servers were great and friendly. When I was there only two servers were working. I felt they were a little over tasked taking orders, cooking and setting up tables, I'm not implying they neglected our table, it just seemed they were a bit stretched for that particular day. My friends and I haven't had Korean BBQ in awhile and we remembered seeing this spot while we were driving on Bell Blvd, so we decided to give this spot a try. We arrived at 7:20pm and it was an hour wait for a party of 4. There is a very spacious waiting area so that's a plus. After an hour, we were finally seated in the back room passed the bathrooms. The back door was opened so we kept feeling the cold breeze. We ordered the pork jowl, spicy pork bulgogi, spicy pork belly, bulgogi, hanger steak and top blade steak. The pork jowl and bulgogi was not too fatty but it was not marinated. Only the spicy items we ordered were marinated. The hanger steak had a weird irony/liver taste to it. The proteins basically didn't have any taste unless you dip it into their sauces. Their main sauce was very bland too, so I decided to put some jalapeños in it and ate them along with my proteins. They gave us four 1" thick pork belly slices in one order, while the other orders were smaller. We were definitely full after all that pork belly. After the pork was all cooked, our server cooked the raw beef on the hot plate and all the steak juices were leaking onto the cooked pork belly. That's definitely cross contamination, so each time I reached for a piece of pork belly I had to re-cook it a little so my stomach wouldn't have a bad reaction to the contamination. The pork bulgogi was also not separated so the insides were still uncooked... The cooked protein should have been removed from the hot plate before placing the raw items. Overall, the dinner was okay for an AYCE spot but I wished there was a premium tier that would offer marinated kalbi.
