First off, i fratellini that was located here before was my favorite St. Louis restaurant... So, naturally I had to give Wright's Tavern a shot. The ambiance and decor was great. I love the changes they made. The service as was with ifratellini, was remarkable. I ordered their martini (w/ vodka) and it was one of the best I have had. We had the shrimp and crab cake for an appetizer. Both were delicious. The shrimp were very large and the crab cake was the size of a pancake. Being born in Baltimore it is difficult to compete with Maryland Crab Cakes, but these were quite good. I also ordered the Bib salad and it was by far the best salad I have ever had. Very fresh and light. For the main course I order the bone-in ribeye with mashed potatoes, spinach, and onion rings to share. The steak was just okay. It could of used some salt and pepper. Very bland. Of the sides the onion rings were the best with everything else just being okay. The steak was served on top of a mustard jus which I didn't like. Honestly, the steak was the only disappointing part of the meal. I will come back to give it another try, but will probably order the wagyu burger instead. read more

Found a great restaurant in the suburbs of St Louis. Food was very well done. This is a small venue that I understand is hard to get reservations at, so book in advance. We were there on a Monday and the place was packed. The black magic oysters were delicious and so were the onion rings. We had both as appetizers. For the main course I had the French Dip that came with a house made giardiniera. I would put this up against any beef sandwich in Chicago. It was delicious. read more

After two weeks of being on a waitlist my girlfriend and I were finally lucky enough to try this wonderful place! Expectations were high as her and I both consider Louie the best restaurant in St. Louis and Wright's did not disappoint in the least! This is a really great restaurant. It far exceeded the hype. We had the crab cake, spicy shrimp scampi, halibut, roasted chicken and onion rings. All were cooked perfectly and each bite was better than the one before it. House made sourdough was a great touch as well. Our server was Nate and he helped us navigate the menu and made sure our water and wine glasses were always full. A real top notch operation all around. If there was one knock on the restaurant, it was a little on the loud side making it hard to hear the waiter or my wife. But this is not enough to knock a star from the review. I went to Wright's Tavern with a raging cold. Given how hard it is to get into, I was determined to not miss my reservation. Even with my taste buds a little messed up, I was thoroughly impressed with everything I ate. Since I was sick, I had leftovers of my steak frites to bring home and it was still delicious warmed up the next day. The only thing I will say is that these dishes seemed very butter heavy. I've been trying for months to get into Wright's and finally got in when I set an alert last week for a last minute reservation. From the moment you walk you can smell the wonderful food aromas. The restaurant is not very big, about 35-40 seats. We started with cocktails, I got the pink lady and my husband got an old fashioned. Both extremely delicious and well crafted. They served hot sourdough bread with a butter and olive oil spread... it was amazing! We ordered a crab cake for an appetizer and it was the largest, most meaty crab cake we've ever had! Sauce was flavorful as well! For our entrees we got the roasted chicken and halibut. My halibut was cooked perfectly with a nice crisp potato crust. My husband ordered the roasted chicken and I'm going to say it was seriously the best chicken we may have ever had! How it was so juicy on the inside and so crisp on the outside. He also really enjoyed the spinach that came with it. All the food came out piping hot... you see it come off the cook line to the heat lamp and it's on your table in about 10 seconds. The affluence of Clayton creates a bubble around reality. Could the critical acclaim of the masses of suburban St. Louis really indicate something special? I was unable to get a reservation until 9, and I arrived at inconspicuous corner and entered a tiny restaurant. An intimate space with seats all cramped together, extremely dark with background music blaring, and the fitting bourgeois clientele, what exactly are they trying to hide? A lack of character perhaps. Ultimately, there were better at drinks than food. My sazerac was an apéritif, and none of their seafood based "hors d'œuvres" spoke to me, especially given our landlocked location. The complimentary sourdough bread was actually good, unlike the rest of this meal, with a crunchy but tender exterior and a airy interior that I actually enjoyed with the oil and butter. I stuck to the meat and potatoes of my Midwestern roots, order a medium-rare New York Strip from the fertile land of Iowa over a bordelaise sauce accompanied by dauphinoise pommes de terre. The sear on the 14 oz of meat was bordering on charred, which I usually like, but it was quite shallow and salted inconsistently, not providing enough salinity to penetrate deep inside the meat. The meat was quite tough to cut, with inconsistent texture, often being too chewy to savor, and while visually medium-rare at first glance, the poor lighting and texture makes me think otherwise. The dauphinoise potatoes were quite literally inedible. The tender texture and creaminess of what could have been a delectable side was massacred by an assault of sodium. The Italians say you should salt pasta water like the sea, and they used this logic on the humble potato, an insult to the fellow Catholic Irish. The only rationalization I can make for this is perhaps the potato was intended to salt the steak, which was not apparent at all. The bordelaise sauce was the only decent part of the plate, yet it was not forced upon the diner at all and was sparse. They also gave me some fresh greens with no purpose, absolutely none, that provided no flavor or accent. I was honestly so dumbfounded by the meal that I enjoyed how bad it was. It gave me more conversation than any good meal could have. Food is more than food, and this food clearly had no soul. I won't name how much it was because it might start a riot. They gave Iowa a bad name with their steak, and that is by far the most overpriced and dissatisfyingly bad meal I've ever had. - - 3.5(+0.5)/10 read more

Huge servings which you don't always get at a place like this. Im really tall so I feel like I usually have to choose between good food and not leaving super fully or low quality food, but this places gives ya both. Food is GREAT, hostess clearly has strict instructions to keep every one of the limited seats warm (butts in seats at all costs) and hence makes for an uncomfortable tense seating environment. I didn't appreciate how the hostess made me feel, specifically related to waiting across the street for our seat, which we told her that we would wait across the street (no waiting area at Wright's), only to be called and told to slam our drinks and leave my friend to pay the bill so my friend could make sure we were seated asap...only to have a seat against the wall, at the bar. No big deal but the seats were not worth slamming our $14 drinks for a bar seat. Relax, I'm here to relax. read more

Excellent service! Food is quite good, but not great. Ambience is a little bit of a problem. The noise level was uncomfortable. The biggest problem I have with these people is how they received me with my service dog. One of the managers or host must've come by the table 6 times and made it a point to give us a very dirty look. Similar reaction from the hostess.
