Thoroughly enjoyed my time at Wunsche Bros Cafe! Our server was Jason - super friendly, super knowledgeable about Wunsche's and gave us a rundown of the history. He even brought us pictures from the wall and sat down with us at one point! Super thoughtful, personable and friendly. That truly makes a great dining experience when you have a server like him. I won't forget my time at Wunsche's. I don't know who reads these, but that guy deserves a raise! I ordered the pork chop and my friend ordered the chicken fried chicken. There is a special on Sunday - the pork chop is $19 and comes with mashed potatoes, which is what I wanted anyways! Friendly service, top quality eats, generous portions, house brewed beer and ghosts. Wunsche Bros is a 100+ year old building resting in Old Town Spring. It's burned down 3 times and is supposedly haunted. While a little touristy, the service was great and the food hits the spot. Yours truly had a 1902 Summer beer; a light, refreshing and fruity ale paired with a grilled ribeye steak sandwich. The sandwich was huge and overflowing with freshly grilled steak. I love this place. It does old Texas southern recipes very well. One of the only places I have stewed okra and tomatoes, rather than fried. I have tried a lot of different dishes, but I always go back to their bbq chicken. I was super impressed with the service considering our size. I will note, they refuse to split the check more than 5 ways, so don't come with more than 5 friends haha. I got the chicken fried chicken, it was very good! The chicken was good, the gravy was good too. Definitely southern comfort food. Atmosphere was very nice. Not only was the restaurant beautiful and very spacious, they were showing a movie from a projector in the center of the main floor! My wife and I were stuck in Houston for the weekend!!! I saw this place on Tictok and they raved about the smoked pork chops. Man!!!!! These are the absolute best pork chops I've ever had! It's not just about the food here.... It's the history and the people. The service was very friendly and welcoming. My server gave us a detailed history run down and was at our beck and call. This is a very special place. Spring Texas neighborhood here has little shops for you to walk and enjoy right from this little gem. I highly recommend to anyone that wants good home cooking and hospitality. Ooooh btw... the sides are amazing too!!!!! He allowed us time to look through the menu and was there when we needed him. We started itoff with the beer bread. I got a full order for three of us and it was a lot of bread for three of us. I would suggest half an order if there's less than three in your party. The bread was soft and delicious. It came with honey butter. I enjoyed the cocktail of the month, Tipsy Tulip. For my meal, I had the seared ahi tuna on a bed of roasted vegetables. The tuna was cooked perfectly. The vegetables were savory. my family got the chicken dumpling dish and the mushroom soup. Customer service has always been excellent! The waiters and waitresses are super friendly and love telling the history of the place. You can tour the upper floor to see the furniture, and pictures of those who lived there. You can also sit at the huge bar and enjoy the "atmosphere"! You are never alone! lol! The food is simple but delicious and the live music downstairs is always fun and upbeat! The restroom has a unique layout and the pictures on the walls very interesting! This is a great place for some excellent pulled pork and a beer. Or you can peruse the menu which is full of excellent choices. Our waitress, Shanon, was really attentive and told us all about the haunted brothel. They have an eclectic selection of draft beers. I ordered a Texas lager which was very tasty. Prior to tonight, my family and I have dined many times at Wunsche Bros, since their reopening and we've had no issues. Tonight was very disappointing. The hostess immediately seated us upon our arrival. While we waited to be greeted by wait staff, I responded to an email, and noted the time as 6:49p. We continued to wait, yet to be acknowledged or have a drink order taken, although wait staff was standing at the drink station, conversing, and others repeatedly walked past us. At 7:00p, we left and the hostess thanked us for coming, seemingly not realizing she just sat us approximately 10 minutes prior. I stopped and advised her we were leaving because we had yet to be addressed by wait staff. She did not apologize or attempt to have us waited on, yet merely watched us walk out. In the car, I phoned for a manager (not sure if he was or not) and I recounted the visit. He only stated, "I do apologize for that and I will address it." Being that I too am in a service related industry, I would think the proper thing for staff to have done would have been to ask a customer to return, and offer to rectify the issue(s). That did not happen in tonight, and a $100+ tab walked out the door. We won't be back in a while. Very very disappointed in this experience. I haven't eaten at Wunsche Bros. in probably 25 years. They've rebuilt half of the restaurant (due to a fire); and the menu has gone a little more upscale. The service was meh. Friendly but not very attentive. We made 6PM Saturday reservation, but were easily seated. There was private party on the second floor. The Fried Zucchini appetizer was terrific! We also really enjoyed the shared extra side of homemade Mashed Potatoes. My grandmother's mashed potatoes weren't this good! My Seared Ahi Tuna was a substantial piece of fish, but I didn't like the seasoning crust; and was disappointed in the bed of sautéed little diced zucchini & red onions. My sister ordered the half of a smoky Rotisserie Chicken served with green beans. The skin was crisp and the meat was cooked through. We were headed to another event, so we didn't order dessert or cocktails. If I find myself in Old Town Spring again, I might stop in and try a burger or pulled pork. read more

Because the food was fine, but I'm rounding up for other things. --- --- --- My wife used to come to Wunsche Bros as a kid and had recently mentioned to me that she wanted to check it out for lunch someday. We took our son to get a nearby haircut and it ended up being the ideal spot to stop after that. We ordered the beer bread and fried pickles for appetizers. Both were good. Not great, not bad aka 4-stars. The beer bread is definitely filling, so we wished we had just gotten a half-order instead of a full. Each piece of bread is surprisingly heavy. I ordered the Wunsche Burger and my wife ordered the chicken fried steak. We both agreed that hers was a bit bland and could have used some more salt. My burger was fine. I didn't realize ketchup didn't come on it, so I ended up having to add it on myself. The default is mayo or mustard, apparently, but that came on the side. I'd say both were probably 3-stars. So we're probably at more of a 3.5-star rating for the food, but I am rounding up because: -Our service was excellent. -And it's pretty cool that this building has been around since 1902. And it was absolutely spotless in here. They did an excellent job to modernize the design, without being obnoxious about it. read more

I had to come back to this place after trying them via yelp! I ordered their southern style deviled eggs! Perfectly boiled, creamy, flavorful filling with the hickory smoked bacon on top! It took me about 5 minutes to scarf these bad boys down! My mouth was watering as I took the picture! You all were lucky to even get one as I almost forgot because of how tasty they looked, I nearly went into attack mode! I split their cat fish platter with my friend! It's got that super crunch with a very tender center! Their corn mill was full of southern style flavor and it was as if they fried it two times over because I literally can't get over that powerful crunch and that tender, tasty flavorful center dipped in their house made tarter sauce!!! Their coleslaw is made fresh, crunchy crisp veggies with a light vinegar infused slaw sauce!! Perfect side!!! I give that a 7.5 out of 10! The whisky cake was super moist and dense but their homemade caramel sauce was literally the icing on the cake with the crunchy pecans adding that nutty flavor you never knew you needed! It comes with a side of homemade whipped cream!!! Omg! I don't give out 9s often but I give their whisky cake a 9/10!! The catfish I give a 8.3 out of 10 and their deviled eggs a 7 out of 10. Our servers were excellent. Being able to make a reservation for a large party was wonderful, but the food was not good. I've been going here for years and years, but improvement is needed. Burgers were horrible. So greasy that the bun was soaked in grease. Burgers were so flat and undercooked. The sauerkraut balls were horrible. I was surprised. They've never tasted like this. Mostly made up of the outer fried part, no sausage no sauerkraut. And way too expensive for the taste. Unfortunately, most of our large party will not be going back. I'm sad. read more

So we were looking for something to do on date night, and we weren't really expecting much, but I wanted to do something different.And I typed in unique places. Originally I was directed to that prohibition place in old town spring, but when we walked in, it was definitely not the type of vibe that I had remembered from a different place that had a similar name. So we ended up randomly going to this spot. One cool thing about this is all the history as one of the oldest buildings in old town spring and with so much history to boot from it. The staff was super helpful and our server spent probably five minutes talking all about the history of the place before we even got into ordering. It's pretty cool that the staff is so passionate about this unique location. So on to the food - On wednesdays and sundays, they have a special where the pork chop is half off. You need to go and get this pork chop. Seriously, it was amazing.I couldn't believe the fact that it was something that I would have never expected was a pork chop.It is so unique. Drinks were unique and it is kind of interesting though it definitely was not my cup of tea to have a margarita on tap. The quarterly drink rocked! Stumbled up on this restaurant and this town and WOW were we impressed. You walk into this place and it certainly has an old school vibe. Old shows playing on a projector, music and ambiance is all there. Lots of seating so we had no wait even without a reservation. The Fried Green Tomatoes were good not great The Chicken Fried Chicken was out of this world incredible. It was moist, crunchy and absolutely delicious. Also eat alfresco, upstairs, an outstanding option the hostess oddly omitted while seating us, instead showing us to the darkest corner she could possibly find. Food, well, not so much. Simple hamburger at 2pm was DRY. I mean choke it down dry. I mean Two (2) glasses of water and a $6.00 Bloody Mary dry. I mean left under a heat lamp for two hours DRY. Bloody Mary was barely better: Weak and forgettable on every level. Ditto Green Fried Tomatoe$, WAY OVERPRICED. Never again. In a strange exception to remarkable kitchen fails, fries are outstanding. I would return for the fries, each of which has been ingeniously cut into spoon shapes, making dipping a joy. Sadly, Ketchup is doled out in meager two ounce portions, so ask for extra. 5 Stars - A Perfect Early Mother's Day Celebration! My daughter and I celebrated Mother's Day a little early this year since we live about five hours apart. We decided to meet halfway and chose Wunsche Bros. Cafe for our special lunch--and it couldn't have been a more perfect choice! From the moment we walked in, the atmosphere was warm and welcoming. Our server, Cheroke, was absolutely amazing--attentive, friendly, and made us feel so comfortable and cared for. She truly went above and beyond to make our experience special. Chicken fried steak was so good during the last visit several months ago that we decided it was worth the 45-minute drive back again this evening. They added the shredded cheddar cheese on top of the gravy on my CFS as I requested and it turned out excellent. Cooked just right, good quality meat with good flavor. The pecan pie for desert hit the spot - very well made. Even better tonight was the service - Naesha was our server. Excellent service with attention to detail and you could tell she enjoyed her job and taking care of her customers. Hope she is there the next time we visit.
