I've been here twice and was very pleased with both food and service. Also they have some amazing dine in specials where you get a ton of different dishes huge portions for an amazing price! The inside of the restaurant is also clean and beautiful. If I lived close by I would be a regular here.
I think the duck combo feeds a family of 6 just fine but may want to add maybe 1-2 other dishes for filler. The combo was good but it was missing a few extra filler as most of the item in the combo was fairly smaller apps. The place itself was clean and service was friendly. Would come back :)
Service is excellent for Chinese restaurant. Waiters do not give you attitude at all!! +++ Food presentation is excellent. See pictures. Conveniently located in the Arcadia Mall with plenty of parking underneath in basement parking lot, restaurant is accessible from parking via escalators. Deco - top notch. Nice chairs and tablescape. I wish waiters would explain each dish to us, what it is and how it's significant to that part of China!
My father is visiting from Asia and was celebrating their anniversary! We saw that XiBei finally opened here at the Santa Anita Mall and we were all so excited to try. Between the four of us, we shared seven dishes - Jellyfish Salad, 1/2 Peiking Duck, Mapo Tofu, KungPao Shrimp, Green Beans, Cold Noodles, and Grilled Eggplant. Everything was delicious, and I do have to say that the food was quite authentic. I did take away 2 stars because the service was mixed. We had made a reservation for 4 PM and received a phone call at 1 PM asking us to come earlier - I've honestly never encountered this situation before / it kind of defeats the purpose of making a reservation. When arriving, we did have two male servers who were AMAZING and tentative. Another note on service - when we ordered the 1/2 duck, there were not enough condiments and sides (hoisin sauce, cucumbers, onions, wraps). My father asked if we could have an additional set, and the female server rudely explained that we would have to pay for an additional set. We have 0 problem paying for an extra set; however, the tone of the response was unsettling. Restaurants have to understand that people come to try the food, but we always return for the service!
Located in the Shops in Santa anita next to Haidilao hot pot. Very Spacious inside. Friendly attentive and speedy service. Plenty of parking. I like the combo meal here. Supposedly for 4-5 ppl but big portions so 6-7 ppl is ok. We got the peking duck combo meal which comes with a salad, steamed shrimp with vermicelli, sweet & sour pork rib, pepper beef, and broccoli dish plus dessert! There are other combos to choose from as well. Different varieties like beef, crab, fish head etc.
Beautiful decor great service and awesome family combo meal deal!! We ordered the $108 meal with their famous peking duck and were wow'd with the feast!! It started with a light salad with soy-ginger dressing, then they brought out the spicy, fatty beef slices, Shanghai short ribs, garlic-sautéed broccoli, garlic shrimp vermicelli, and sticky-rice dessert. The Peking duck was served in two platters; each person got a small sauce plate. The Duck was sliced perfectly, and the meat was tender, as a good Peking duck should be! Since there were only two of us, we ended up taking most of the food home. The staff were so nice and helped us pack fresh Peking duck sauce. I would definitely visit again wth friends for the duck!
XIBEI serves an authentic Chinese cuisine. There are ample parking spots in Santa Anita Mall. The restaurant has a very pleasant atmosphere and relaxing vibes. It was clean and organized. They have indoor seating. The menu includes Oat noodles dumplings with choice of protein or with pickled vegetables, Pecking duck, seabass, simmered beef stew, pork ribs, soup, Chinese street food like shumai and Xiao Long Bao and more We ordered; - Oat "WOWO" Honeycomb shaped Oat noodles with sweet and sour sauce 5/5 - Stir Fried Oat Noodles With pickled vegetables 5/5 - Northern Style Flatbread 5/5 - Broccoli Garlic 5/5 Everything was flavorful and delicious. The staff were genuinely warm and friendly. The service was fast. We had such a great time. Definitely, I will be back to try more of their delicious dishes.
First time here and my dad had to call to reserve a seating and duck. The largest table they offer was for a party of 6, so we had to split into two tables of 8 because my mom wanted to order two separate combo sets. We can also order à la carte dishes on their iPads but we ordered combo meat sets. We got short rib combo and duck combo, one for each table. The combo came with a salad, soup, pork short ribs, garlic shrimp with vermicelli, kungpao chicken, broccoli, and the meat of your choice. Dessert was sticky rice with some sweet dipping sauce that only my dad liked. Rice must be ordered separately or we had to ask for bowls of rice. Salad had a nice tangy and sweet vinaigrette, mostly iceberg lettuce and various other vegetables. Soup was very mild and flavorful, it had tofu, Napa, mushrooms, and small shrimp. Broccoli was good, still had a crunch/bite with firmness and savory sauce. Garlic shrimp was strong with garlic but coupled with vermicelli balanced it well. Kung Pao chicken was sweet and slightly spicy, I ate the most of this dish as it was delicious. Short rib was great, very delicious, not the most tender short ribs, but was still great. I didn't try the dessert as i wanted to focus more on savory dishes. The only downside was the wait time for duck, we already finished our side of the combo while the other table was waiting. By the time it came out, they were pretty much done, so we ended up taking the rest home. Overall, a nice dinner for a small group of close friends or family. Maybe a good choice for large groups for their private rooms but it does require a minimum spend.
XiBei seems like a decent spot for Chinese food. I came here for dinner recently and tried one of their sets. The set with the duck is the most popular but they run out so order in advance if you want it. I couldn't order the duck so I opted for the set that featured beef instead. FOOD All of the dishes that were a part of the set were good. The value is good too. The set cost less than $100 and it was enough for four. RESTAURANT The inside looks pretty nice. A few of the tables on the side have the picnic table cloth that people have been mentioning. Apparently, all of the tables used to have this type of table cloth. Now, the only tables that have them are off to the side and aren't for customers to use. I thought it was funny when I saw these. SERVICE Staff were good here on my visit. They were attentive and the kitchen seemed really efficient. PARKING It Arcadia Mall parking so it's plentiful and free.
Came here on a Sunday afternoon ~2pm without reservation. We had to wait about 10 minutes to be seated at a table, which was not bad. Once at the table, you place your order on a tablet. XiBei serves Northwestern Chinese cuisine. The ambiance is casual, but the aesthetics of the place was a bit weird with Chinese banners hanging from the ceiling and picnic table cloths that didn't match anything. We ordered the Beef Rib Value Set ($98), which comes with... 1. Xiebei Signature Salad (3.5/5) - the salad wasn't very fresh, but the dressing was light and vinegary 2. Sweet & Sour Pork Ribs (5/5) - the pork was tender and came off the bone easily. It is also marinated well in their sweet and sour sauce, which had a good balance of savoriness and honey-like sweetness 3. Mongolian Sliced Angus Beef Rib (5/5) - of all the dishes, this was probably my favorite. The beef was tender and smoky in flavor. I loved the cumin spice seasoning that you dip the beef it as it complimented the smokey flavor well 4. Scallion Grilled Whole Sea Bass (2.5/5) - the sea bass was very fishy and tasted like farm-raised fish. It was cooked well though as it was tender on the inside and super crispy on the outside. The chili pepper seasoning it was served with was good 5. Kung Pao Chicken (2/5) This has to got to be one of the worst Kung pao chicken we've ever had. The sauce was way too sweet and vinegary + it was not spicy at all. There was also an off-putting flavor to it that we couldn't quite pinpoint. 6. Stir-Fried Green Beans (2/5) The green beans were cooked well, but like the other vegetable dishes, this one also lacked any flavor or proper seasoning. 7. XiBei Signature Golden Millet Sticky Rice (4/5) - the sticky rice with millet was quite sticky, but the golden millets had a pleasant millet flavor. The majority of taste comes from the sweet osmanthus dipping sauce. ------------- Additional Items that we ordered ... 1. Beef & Onion Dumplings (4/5) These dumplings were huge. The dumpling skin was not good - too thin and easily ripped apart. The meat filling inside also fell apart too easily due to the large amount of onions mixed into the meat. The flavor was decent though - beefy and garlicky. 2. Stir-Fried Broccoli (2/5): The broccoli itself was fresh and steamed to perfection, but it lacked any flavor. We ordered the garlic option and there was no garlic or garlic fragrance whatsoever. 3. Dry Pot Cauliflower with Pork (3/5): There was nothing special about this dish that tantalized our taste buds. The cauliflower was cooked well, but lacked flavor as it did not pick-up the savory sauce that it's served in. The pork in the dish was good though as it was able to absorb the sauce. 4. Mongolian Cheese Bing Bread (5/5) Pleasantly doughy, chewy and cheesy 5. Oat "WoWo" Honeycomb shaped oat noodles with sweet & sour sauce (2/5) Sadly, they did not make this dish right. It is supposed to be easy to tear apart each honeycomb noodle so that you can dip it in the sauce, but their version is all stuck together. Instead of dipping the honeycomb noodle in the sauce, they douse the sauce over the honeycomb noodles. The sauce itself was not good - it literally just tasted like sweet and sour spaghetti sauce when it should really have a good spice fragrance to it. 6. Xibei Style Lamb Shumai (3.5/5) A unique dish where they turn traditional shumai, which usually contains pork into one that contains lamb meat. The shumai skin was doughy and thin, which was nice because it doesn't make you feel full quickly, but the lamb meat was very gamey 7. Northern Style Pork Bun (3/5) The Rou Ja Mou bun was not flaky and lacked that fragrant doughiness. The pork was ok, but the sauce it 's marinated in was too sweet. 8. Housemade Yogurt with Osmanthus Fermented Rice Soup (5/5) Beijing-style yogurt, which is tangy and not as thick as Greek Yogurt. It is topped with a good amount of osmanthus flavored fermented rice, which adds sweetness and the floral osmanthus flavor. I do recommend getting this as it's sure a treat.
I had to update my review because this place just got a serious glow-up! They finally got rid of those old picnic-style checker tablecloths, and the dining room looks so much more upscale and sleek now. We came in for dinner with a group and ordered one of their set menus for 6 people. It's honestly an incredible deal, it comes with a whole Peking duck and a bunch of great dishes, including the shrimp with vermicelli, beef in soup, broccoli, salad, sweet and sour pork ribs, and a 6-item appetizer platter. The food tasted fantastic, though the portion sizes for the set felt a little light for 6 fully grown adults. To make sure everyone was full, we added an order of their famous braised noodles with pork ribs, which absolutely hit the spot. The service was highly impressive and completely matches the new elevated vibe of the restaurant. We had such a great experience that we're actually coming back again next week for a birthday celebration. Highly recommend checking out their new look!
I came for a birthday dinner with my family, and I have mixed feelings. First off, the food is very good, but it's not great. Considering the prices here, I expect to be fully wowed. Instead, I felt like the food was just good and the portion sizes were a little too small to justify the cost. The combo sets can be more cost-efficient, but even then, I don't think it's enough for 6 or more people. Maybe stick to the combo sets if you only have 4-5 people. The service and ambiance were also just okay as well. We were seated on the right side of the restaurant, seemingly apart from everyone else, and it was a weird vibe. The waiters also brought out our dishes in the wrong order, like dessert came before the entrees and duck, so it was kind of confusing. Personally, I think the food is worth a try once for the experience, but I don't think this will be a consistent go to type of place.
I've been wanting to try this place for a while after seeing tons of ads on it on Instagram. Overall, the experience was pretty good, though it did start off a bit awkward. One older server was fairly rude, and with limited English, the interaction was confusing, he insisted we needed to be members to order, which turned out not to be true. Aside from that and some very mid-level service, the food itself was excellent. What I tried: Shredded Chicken Oat Noodles - Hearty and delicious. Simple, clean flavors done well. I really enjoyed this dish. (4.5/5) Mongolian Beef Rib-Bone Platter - The true winner of the night. Fall-off-the-bone tender, incredibly flavorful. Easily the best bone-in beef I've had. (5/5) Stir-Fried Vegetables - A bit pricey at $18, but it tasted good. My mother-in-law thought it was slightly salty, but I personally liked it. (4/5) XiBei Signature Chilled Golden Millet Sticky Rice - A very unique dessert. Light, interesting, and definitely worth trying. (4.5/5) Overall, what started as a strange and slightly frustrating experience turned into a solid meal thanks to the great food and nice ambiance. It was likely a one-off service issue since 3 out of the 4 servers we interacted with were great, but it only takes one to affect the mood. Still, the food made it worth the visit.

We attempted to order the half Peking duck but they were out at the time. The Mapo Tofu was excellent. It was very flavorful and had a wonderful balance of spice and numbing effect from the peppers. The Braised pork belly was packed with flavor and they also give you some buns to place them in. The spicy chicken was just the right spice and was nice and crunchy. The Xibei style shumai reminded me of Khinkali (Georgian Dumplings) and was savory and rich in flavor. The green beans were good as well. I'd hard pass on that lemonade next time and maybe get a signature tea. The Rose Grape Jasmin tea was excellent. The highlights of the meal were definitely the Mapo Tofu and the Spicy Chicken. I'd say it's hands down the best Mapo Tofu in the LA area. Price: 4/5: Good value overall. The price for all these foods, which also lead to a lot of food to take home because the portions were decent totaled to about $110 before tip. This could easily feed 3-4 people as me and my wife are big eaters, and this easily became 2 meals for us. Service: 4/5: Good service overall. All the ordering is done via a tablet, which a server will have to still check it and submit it. Our server was good, but the only downside is that sometimes you have to wait longer than expected to submit your order. However they are all very willing to help you if you call for them. The button on the tablet to call the servers doesn't appear to work. Ambiance: 5/5: It is a beautifully decorated space and stays true to the traditional Chinese style (I think). We went between lunch and dinner so it was not excessively busy. There is music and a few TVs to watch sports which was ok. I give it a 5, more because the décor. read more

My auntie wanted to try a new restaurant today so we came to Xibei. as you walk in, you see a beautiful decorated restaurant with a chill vibe. Xibei is a new restaurant in the Santa Anita mall that took over Meizhou Dongpo. I had not heard of it before but there are apparently over 300 restaurants in China with the first shop originating in Inner Mongolia in 1988. Upon looking at the menu, I noticed it was definitely not your typical Chinese cuisine that you see in SGV restaurants. A lot of items had some element of oat in it - "oat wowo, oat noodles, oat dumplings"; so naturally we had to order something with oat! We ordered the oat wowo, oat dumplings, lamb shumai, Peking duck, lamb shank (free from instagram game!), and the chilled millet sticky rice. My favorite was the chilled millet sticky rice - it had the texture of zongzi (sticky rice dumpling) and it had a delightful subtly sweet/flowery honey-like sauce on it. Next favorite was the Peking duck - though it was a bit pricey for the half portion at $52. My husband really enjoyed the oat dishes especially the oat wowo - the texture of the noodles and dumpling wrapper made with oat had a nice chew and a subtle earthy flavor which made it unique! I would recommend this restaurant as there's nothing really like it (yet!) in the area and the quality of the food is good. I would come again to try out some other dishes! Came here for the 99.99 special. It was super good for its price. We had 6 people and we ordered an additional dish on the side. The salad was surprisingly good for starter. I didnt try the lamb soup because it smelled super gamey but others quite enjoyed the soup and the meat. Peking duck was the right portion for the 6 of us. The skin was not as crunchy as I liked but for its price, it was great. Service was superb and ambience was nice and relaxing. Would come back again. read more

Extremely impressed by XiBei! Came here on a Saturday night for dinner about a week and a half ago and had a great experience. The food was truly top notch. Between the 8 of us, we ordered the Whole Peking Duck, Mongolian Beef Ribs, Stir-Fried Green Beans, Cumin Lamb, Beef Stew, Shumai, Sautéed Mushroom, Cabbage, Oat "Wowo," and more. While every dish was delicious, my favorites were probably the duck, beef stew, and oat wowo. I would say XiBei is one of the absolute best Chinese restaurants I've been to in/around Los Angeles. The interior is beautiful with high ceilings and clean seats. The picnic blanket-esque tables create a casual atmosphere. Service was very quick and they warned us before we were even seated that the duck (their #1 item) would take about an hour to be served. We greatly appreciate the advanced notice. Everything we tried was delicious, especially the avocado with chili pepper, and the Peking duck! So simple and so satisfying. Can't wait to come back and try more dishes! read more

We originally came for the duck value combo, but we didn't realize we had to order in advance. We pivoted to the sweet and sour fish combo. We were a bit disappointed at first, but we received our food quickly. The broccoli was the first dish, which tasted pretty standard. We then received a cold noodle chicken dish; not having tried it before, we were surprised that the noodles had a vinegar marinade. But with the vegetables mixed together - the starchy noodles, edamame, and chicken balanced out the acidity in the marinade. Then came the sweet and sour fish, which had excellent plating. The taste matched the appearance. The fish was lightly fried, flaky, and tender. It was paired well with the sauce. For us it was the highlight of the combo and we would order it again just for the fish. We also received glazed wings, which had a strong cumin flavor and smell. If you're into cumin, you'd like these wings. The texture on the outside was crispy, while the inside was juicy. Finally, after we finished our entrees, they brought out the sticky rice dessert. It came with a sweet syrup dipping sauce. The rice was indeed extremely sticky, and had an interesting texture with millet on top. The flavor of the sticky rice itself was quite neutral and had minimal sweetness, but when paired with the dipping sauce, it turned into a pleasant dessert. Overall, we thought the meal tasted great and had great value. We would certainly come back to try the other combo sets. Being located in the shops at Santa Anita, this place is easy to access and there was plenty of parking. read more

This is our sixth time coming here. The $99 roast duck combo is something you definitely don't want to miss. It includes a whole roast duck, lamb leg soup, pickled cabbage fish, dry-fried green beans, and even a dessert after the meal. As always, we also love their scallion-flavored grilled fish. It's crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, and perfectly sweet and savory. At just $36, it's an amazing value. The ingredients are always very fresh. As long as they keep offering this combo, we'll definitely keep coming back. Such a great deal! read more

The dishes were a nice tasteful foray into northern Xinjiang cuisine. Definitely recommend the Golden Millet Sticky Rice as a sweet treat to round out the meal! The service was relatively quick and ambiance definitely was more of a food court kind of vibe with lots of families but lighting was nice overall! They have some great sets / combos including options for kids which is awesome. We'll be back in the future for their Peking duck and Oat wow when they aren't as busy! Their Oat yuyu was a nice warm dish to try! The waiters also recommended the Tagine-braised noodles but those might run out depending on how popular they are that day! read more

Xibei is a Northern Chinese restaurant located on the second floor, external restaurant area near Macys in the Santa Anita Mall. It's in a cavernous facility with super high ceilings, large ceiling-high shelves, and beautiful modern interior. The red and white checkered picnic table covers however don't match the decor. Maybe go with a dark red table cloth?!? Service is polite and helpful with English, Mandarin and Cantonese speakers. Xibei also has numerous specials and the half Peking Duck Special for $84 that easily feeds four is a tasty good deal. I would definitely do again. Where else can you eat Peking Duck along with Salad, Soup, and Garlic Shrimp Glass Noodles in a Clay Pot for $21 a person!?! We also had their Mongolian Beef Bones, 2 bones for $17. Food Evaluation for Three Mains: - Peking Duck, the skin is crispy and expertly carved into small slices with skin & meat, and displayed in a beautiful mound. I must commend the knife skills of the carver. Also the duck was not oily, a similar place has larger slices with double fried skin that is much oilier. Xibei's version is less greasy and beautifully plated. 10 steamed oat skins come with the half duck order. The oat skins are delicate and seem healthier than the more common flour-based skins. - Mongolian Beef Bones, two large braised bones accompanied by cumin spices and a pickled garnish. Cut the meat off the bone and eat it while it's hot. Tastes a little like Cantonese Beef Stew with a slightly sweet, anise, flavor. Tasty and plenty of meat off two ribs to share for four people. Dip in the cumin for a spicier kick. - Garlic Shrimp Glass Noodles in a Clay Pot, six shrimp with cloves of garlic. I still taste the garlic in my mouth the next day. But I love garlic. Overall, I will go back for the Half Duck Combo Special which is a bargain for four people. Service is good with polite and helpful workers.... They cleared away the rib bones after we cut off the meat, announced each dish in Mandarin when brought to the table, and boxed up our leftovers for us. Good job! read more

Food: SO WORTH PLEASE COME AND SUPPORT THEIR BUSINESS so that I know whenever I come to la I have a restaurant to visit We ordered the $98 combo and it was worth every dollar I'd actually pay $150 for it. The Peking duck is absolutely the best. Crispy on the outer layer and super juicy on the inside. The pork in sweet sauce is also one of my fave here. It comes with so much food my family of 4 could not finish it... This doesn't happen in bay area! $100 could barely feed two people. Service: Really great service. Amicable staff. My mom and I visited Xibei to try their Northwestern Chinese cuisine, and we really enjoyed the experience. We ordered the half-size peking duck, stir-fried green beans, xibei-style beef shumai, crispy fried golden millet with molten brown sugar, and sweet & sour pork ribs and everything tasted great. The dessert was our favorite highlight: the crispy fried golden millet came piping hot with a gooey brown sugar center and was absolutely delicious. The green beans were another standout, perfectly cooked with a satisfying crunch and packed with flavor. The peking duck was especially interesting, as one of the accompanying sauces was yogurt with sugar, which was something I'd never had with duck before. It was a unique and surprisingly pleasant twist. Overall, Xibei is a solid spot for peking duck and a great place to explore Northwestern Chinese flavors. Definitely worth a visit. read more

Nice ambience, great service and very good Xibei dishes. There are very few Xibei restaurants in the US. Xibei is a province south east of Beijing with a lot Xin Jiang influences, so lots of lamb dishes. First time having this and was very impressed. Something new to enjoy! read more

Came here with a group and honestly, it delivered. The food is great -- but the lobster combo is the move. Fresh, flavorful, and not drowned in sauce. The lobster was meaty and cooked right, not rubbery. You can tell they don't cut corners on quality. We aren't huge lobster people, but this changed our minds. It's one of those dishes where everyone at the table goes quiet for a second. That's how you know it's good. Service was efficient and the vibe is casual, nothing fancy. Just solid food done well. Authentic Chinese food! It was delicious and I highly recommend coming in a large group so you can try all of the food! Our favorite was the Braised Pork Belly! I was not expecting much from this place. I was fairly surprised how good the food here was. There spicy chicken is crispy and pepper weren't spicy which blending well with the dish. The baby lobster streamed with noodles were nice addition to our meal which had a tangy garlic taste and very easy to eat since the lobster were cut into small pieces The sticky rice desert so good that dipping sauce is not too sweet but just right with the sticky rice sauce. I only had pictures of the lobster and sticky rice. We had a flew more dishes but they were good too. The ambiance, the space is huge lots of tables and well nicely lit with fresh look. They have rooms off on the sides for larger parties. Yes, you cna being big families and large groups. Now the service, they do have some waiters that dont undersrand enligh too wel and had ask a few times but it was nothing terrible at all. I would say service was decnet. I would recommend this place to those who like Fusion style Chinese food and to have a nice meal with friends. I hope they keep this good taste going. read more

I came here for the $12 lunch buffet. I dont recommend it, and in fact i would advocate for the restaurant to get rid of it completely because of the extra chaos it brings. Because of the amount of people who come for the buffet, you are expected to share large tables with other strangers. Our first table refused to let us sit, claiming that they were saving seats for their friends. We had to ask the waiters to redirect us to a separate table, while the waiters had to stop people from charging into the buffet without being directed to their assigned seating area first. The buffet is pretty small (2 side dishes, 2 types of rice, 6 entrees, and soup), so you have a crowd of people around the only buffet area. Originally only one side of the restaurant was assigned to be for buffet eaters only, but eventually it took up the entire restaurant. The servers are trying their best to manage the traffic, but it is clear that they are struggling to keep up refilling the food, clearing the tables, and stocking the cutlery/clean dishes and trays again. This is one of the rare occasions where i dont think hiring more people would help, because it would only crowd the dining area further. Based on the other reviews, it seems that the ala carte option is the better option to eat for a more relaxed dining experience. read more

Yes. We have three types of private rooms: small rooms fit about 6–7 people, medium rooms fit around 10 people, and large rooms fit about 13–14 people. The minimum spend is $300 for a small room, $500 for a medium room, and $600 for a large room.
