First off..they make their own salsa. Unique and wonderful on the palate. I can't tell what the final flavor is...guessing a hint of cinnamon. Anyways, I'd go here just for the chips and salsa. Been going here for several years. The food is generally good, however they have raised the prices to an exorbitant extent. $4.00 for Soda? Plus service charge for credit cards? Service has also declined in quality in the past year. Even though I used to go often, I rarely go now, no value for the money. Seating is sometimes and issue as well. I stopped by because I heard it was pretty good. It was late afternoon, and they were busy. I was alone, so I sat at the bar. It took awhile for anyone to come wait on me, and then was able to order water and a beer. They don't serve you chips and salsa until you order your food, so I sat and drank my beer waiting for them to take my order. I'm not sure why they don't serve you chips when to order your drinks? I would have enjoyed my wait more with chips and my beer. I was finally able to order a combo plate of a shredded beef taco, cheese enchilada, rice and beans. I then got the chips and hot sauce. Disappointed in the taco, although somewhat flavorful, there was very little meat! The rest of the food was ok, just nothing to rave about. Found the policy (posted signs) of not providing tortilla chips until after you place your order to be a bit odd... perhaps people used to get free chips and then notice they both increased prices and added card surcharge so they left? Great hole in the wall Mexican restaurant. Our server was very attentive and the food was outstanding. We have been driving by for years and I am so glad we stopped in for lunch. If you are in the area and like supporting your local restaurants stop in you won't regret it. I had a chicken chimichanga with red sauce it was delicious. The food here has gone down hill in the last 6 months, and the service has tanked along with it. The hostess just looked at us when we came in, and then started to walk away. I had to speak up and tell her we were waiting for a table. It USED to be a really good place to eat and relax. Not so anymore. We've been to XJ's Casa Reynoso to eat a few times now. Breakdown - 3 stars for taste & quantity of food / 4 stars for service & price of food; so more like a 3.5 star review. This restaurant features a decent sized menu with burritos, tacos, enchiladas, etc. The first time we went in, I asked what their most popular dishes are and was told the enchiladas & special chili plates (choice of meat + rice & beans + tortilla). If you're indecisive like me, they have several combos to chose from as well. I've personally tried out their Chicken Burrito & enchiladas (both cheese only & cheese with chicken). I'd recommend the burrito if you're looking for more meat & something a little more filling. I found the cheese enchiladas to be a little underwhelming on taste, had lots of cheese though, and the quantity of chicken in the chicken enchiladas was not worth the extra cost. Their sauces & salsa are good which helps with overall flavor. Rice and beans are good too if you're doing a plate. Portions aren't huge but I've left feeling satisfied, no leftovers. Overall, good. They do seem to make everything to-order which is nice, the dishes come out piping hot. Looking forward to trying a couple other items to see if I can bump up my review to 4 stars! read more

So disappointing. I have eaten here before but my husband isn't a fan so when he went out of town I stopped by for a takeout order. I have never seen such poor quality, lack of taste chicken burrito ever. SHAME ON YOU! This burrito was $8.00. If I had looked at it when I was there I would have asked for my money back. How can you screw up or disappoint on a Chicken Burrito? Just see for yourself. This was an $11 mistake I will never make again after tip. Had a terrible experience here last night with service. I walked in the door to the hostess stand. I told her I would need a table for 4 adults and 2 kids. The hostess said ok, but I could tell wasn't really paying attention and instead walked past me to provide 3 guests waiting on take out orders with their bills. At this time I was the only guest waiting for a table. I waited a few minutes and went back to the hostess stand and asked if she wanted to take down my name or anything. She replied saying "What is it you needed again?" I informed her again, that I needed a table for 4 adults and 2 kids with only 1 high chair. She took my name down and I told I would be waiting right out front. At this time another group walked in and requested a table for 8. They also informed they would be waiting out front. After 30 minutes of waiting, the hostess came outside where both groups were standing next to each other and told the party that came in 10 minutes AFTER me that their table was ready. I walked in behind them and again waited at the hostess stand for the hostess to return. When she came back, I asked her what happened and why my family was still waiting for a table when that group came in 10 min after me. She informed me that she thought I had left....which was a bold faced lie. There is no way she could have missed me, my husband, my 2 kids and the other couple we were with as she walked out the front door and grabbed the party that stood less than 3 feet from us. She was unapologetic and rude about it. I asked to speak to a manager and she told me there was no manager or supervisor there, which was another lie I waited for a waitress to walk by and asked the waitress to grab a manager for me, which she did. I spoke to the manager. While the manager was apologetic, she could only offer I wait up to another 15 minutes to wait for a party to leave to be seated. No drinks or chips and salsa were offered as we extended our wait. We decided to leave and get dinner elsewhere. It is unfortunate as this restaurant is walking distance from our house and we were hoping it could be a regular stop for our family, but we have come to value the service provided when we decide to go out and spend money on dinner for our family. We were disappointed in the service provided before we even got to the table, and couldn't risk finding the same experience throughout our visit. read more

I've eaten at just about every Casa Reynosa in Arizona. My favorites the one down on southern and Higley. Mama Reynoso's recipes are amazing. However this location run by I imagine one of the cousins, and is by far the worst run one. It's the only Mexican restaurant I know of that makes you order before you get your chips. The service is terrible and the recipes seem a bit off. No problem, I just drive down to Southern instead now. read more

Visited for the first time tonight. The food was fantastic. We started with the bean dip which came out hot and tasty. I had combo #9. My daughter had a chicken taco and my son enjoyed a beef taco. Our family tried this place because it's close by, and my sister wanted to get some classic AZ Sonoran Mexican food before flying back to Denver. The inside was cute and clean. Kind of wish they weren't playing country music but that's Gilbert for you. We all ordered lunch specials except for my mom who got a single cheese enchilada. Our waitress was wonderful, and she happily kept our salsa bowls refilled. We plowed through their delicious salsa at an alarming rate. My sister and husband enjoyed their green chili burritos. However, my husband had the runs badly after we ate. I also enjoyed my tostada and cheese enchilada special, but I ended up feeling pretty nauseous afterwards. I don't know if it was coincidence, but it is concerning. We eat this type of food all the time, and I literally grew up in my dad's Mexican food restaurant. Nice Mexican restaurant that is low key, with good food, and they provide table service. I had the green chili burrito and was really impressed by the flavor and presentation. They do have kids meals that are a decent size. Prices are pretty good and the service was very prompt and attentive. I would like to also try the red chili beef as that is the other house speciality along with the green chili pork. They do have a full bar and happy hour. read more

Casa Reynoso is a family chain of local Arizona restaurants that have promulgated across the Valley sporting the same signature dishes that first originated from the homebase restaurant in Globe, Arizona. From there, family members have branched out to open Casa Reynoso locations in Tempe, Chandler, Mesa and now Gilbert. I've been going to Casa restaurants for 25 years. Our primary location these days has been the Mesa location on Higley. But as of November the new XJ's Casa Reynoso location in Gilbert (Val Vista & Ray) is another location we will visit. I love their Gollo of course, which is their signature green chili pork entree available in burro, plate and chimi formats. But their wonderful salsa, and appetizers are taking fresh life at XJ's. I had the Lisa special appetizer for the first time here. Wow! A great, shareable quesadilla that is perfect for 4 people to enjoy before the meal. I also tried the One Quarter Meal, which is a four part feast that delights the pallet and fills the stomach. It was tremendous. For me, the coup de grace of Casa has always been their brilliant salsa. Snappy spiciness with the perfect subtle cinnamon accent makes it amazing. The location and setting of XJ's is nice. Reaching into the newer and growing Gilbert communities will make the Casa Reynoso name pervade for the next several generations! The interior is more intimate and warm that the larger Mesa location (and soooooo much more updated than the old Tempe location), and includes a few booth sitting locations which feel more private. I enjoy that. The staff is brilliant and welcoming. From the initial welcome to the drinks, chips and salsa, ordering, appetizers, meals and regular refilling of drinks, the attention and care of the hosts was perfect. We even got a visit from the owners to welcome us. We will be back. Perfect Casa Reynoso menu, with a fresh, warm and more personal space. read more

We have a group of 12 who meet at various restaurants in the area every Tuesday. If we have a favorite we'll go back again and again. This place had too many rules. Fine if you won't sit us before the majority gets there, but at least let us order a beer at the bar while waiting for the others. Waitress was super sweet, but got many of our orders wrong. Just tried this place for the first time. I ordered takeout and the girl was friendly. When we got it home, 2 of the orders were wrong. Not my favorite Mexican food either. I got a combo with an enchilada and beef taco. I didn't like the enchilada sauce and the beef texture was kind of weird. The beans and rice were the best part of the meal... My husband and I tried this restaurant about a week ago, we went in kind of late not realizing that they were closing in 45 minutes but the staff was super friendly and welcoming to us. We sat down and the first booth on the left, and it was spacious but one side of the booth didn't have a cushion on the back only where you sat. Just straight up wall which was a bit uncomfortable. We both ordered drinks and were not carded, which was a bit weird - my husband and I are over 21 but we would still think as a new restaurant or just in general that you would card. Our server was very attentive and sweet, we ordered the rolled tacos and a burrito which were great. Our server didn't mention that the plates were hot until after I touched it and burnt my finger a bit. On my plate the beans left a residue on the plate that was kind of off putting, as if it was under a heat lamp for a little too long. Luckily our meal and drinks were great. I love the decoration inside, the restaurant is super clean and well kept. The parking isn't the best, I would recommend carpooling if you're coming with a group. read more

This new place sprung up on us! It's hidden behind a convenience and Water and Ice store. It's got a nice crowd but didn't have to wait long to be seated. The salsa is a bit cinnamony but the green chili is so tasty!!! I had the Gollo burro with green sauce and cheese on top. It came out nice and toasty and not swimming in sauce which was a great surprise. The shredded beef tacos are delish. Not a huge fan of the margarita so going to stick to beer next time. read more

So I've been eyeballing this place on YELP and had it in my cue for a while. The one I went to was on Val Vista and Ray, close to my house. First impression was small, but full for 6pm on Friday. They could easily fill a larger site. The chips were light and crispy restaurant style, and the salsa was delicious though mild for my personal preference. My 10 ur old son and I demolished them. Three different people asked us if we wanted more, but we didn't want to fill up. We always get full on chips and salsa, RIGHT? I ordered the cheese crisp with Jalapeños. It was delicious and crispy, but small for $3.00. I'd pay $5 for 3 or 4 of those. My son doesn't eat vegetables but I got him to eat all the frijoles without much complaint. That means they are delicious and probably cooked with the right amount of fat. He tore up the cheese Enchilada plate like a champ. I got the #8 but added red chill pork to the enchilada. I usually Judge Mexican restaurants by their chile rellano if they offer one on the menu. The chile rellano was very traditional with the egg battered poblano pepper filled with cheese. It wasn't extraordinary, but it was beautifully prepared and delightful to eat. I asked for the enchilada to have the red pork added and it was the right call, MMmMMMM. The Reynoso Family has a new 'WINNER' in the east valley! This new restaurant has just opened recently by Xavier & Alicia Reynoso..... They have all the famous family recipes and have first class service. We were asked every few minutes on how we were doing and how our meal was. The flavor of their Green Pork Chili Chimichanga is second to none and I would even say it is in the same league as 'El Charro' in Tucson who invented the Chimichanga......simply amazing!
