FANTASTIC!!! My boyfriend and I were celebrating our 4 year anniversary and chose to do a tasting menu for the first time. Every single dish was delicious, truly better than I anticipated. Both of our servers were incredibly well versed in their menu and described every dish beautifully. The music in the restaurant wasn't too loud, just loud enough where I'm not listening to other people's conversations. I think my favorite was the Bao and the dessert, my boyfriend was OBSESSED with the scallops. Cannot recommend this place enough.

Located in Kaimuki, free parking stalls available in front of the restaurant. Took my mom here to celebrate her birthday. Wanted something a little nicer but not over the top fancy. This restaurant was very modern, aesthetic, and professional but also felt like somewhere you could eat without being in a dress or suit and tie. I can't remember the names of all the food, but it was all so good. No complaints. We sprung for the seven course prefixed meal (menu changes frequently). There were so many different flavors to indulge in. It's hard to pick a favorite dish because everything was so unique and tasty. By the end of the night we were full and satisfied. Our server was very knowledgeable about each dish and its preparation. He was able to tell us what ingredients were in the dish, the process to cook it, and the inspiration behind it. We were very impressed. For getting 6 courses, I believe the set price was ~$65 pp. I did opt to add an extra dish of salmon. They brought out my mom's dessert with a candle and were very attentive to making our visit a great one! Thank you XO!

Beautifully plated beet lotus and shiso gel on top of thinly sliced radish, it also had cilantro leaves, chimichurri sauce and quinoa!

Food that "broke da mout" like they say here in Hawai'i!! It means it was amazing food. It was unique and crafted with a lot of detail. The flavors on their own should not work, but when it's all together it works perfectly! Every single bite had some kind of special flavor, and positive effect. I took a lot of pictures of the food because it was so pretty. Every dish looked like a piece of art. I felt speechless when I realized what I was eating. I usually don't like vegetables but tonight I am proud of say I ate my veggies and they were delectable. If you love delicious food and are a foodie you should definitely try this place. Trust me you will not be disappointed and order the mochi for dessert--it was mouthwatering!

XO was our best meal in Honolulu. The food was delicious, fresh, creative, and fun! It was also plenteous, my friends and I were stuffed at the end. Great price, friendly staff. What more can you ask for?! I would definitely come back and recommend XO to anyone looking for a quality meal which is both delicious and fun.

I came here for a girls' dinner and we ordered the course menu. We all opted to add the lamb for an extra $10, which was definitely worth it and a great addition to the meal. One thing that caught us off guard was that the dishes were served family-style. We had assumed each course would be individually portioned, so having to divide everything ourselves every time was a bit inconvenient and took away from the experience. The standout dish for me was the hamachi and brown butter bunnies. The fish was very fresh, and the citrus elements made it light and refreshing. The mochi bunnies were perfect texture and sweetness. Presentation here is amazing. Service, unfortunately, was not great. The restaurant wasn't busy, yet our server rarely checked in on us and we were left without water and drinks multiple times. It felt a bit inattentive given how quiet it was. Overall, the ambiance leans more casual than expected. There were some highlights food-wise, but the service and family-style setup made the experience less seamless than we had hoped.

4/19/26 The 6 of us chose the 7 course Pre Fixe meal and it was, overall, a tasty offering It allowed us to sample the many appetizers and entrees Standouts were the Fresh Hamachi, Radish w Beets dish and Buttah Mochi Rabbit (liked Chef's sense of humor) Service was professional yet friendly as well But for me the real treat was a Caramel Candy infused w A5 Wagyu Beef Fat! Imagine rich melty fat n sugary goodness all I one bite LOL

What a great little place in the heart of Kaimuki. Food was very good. The dishes were very well presented and there was a lot of attention to detail. The dishes were very flavorful and top notch. My favorite was the Hamachi Crudo. We tried at least 6 different items from the Ala Carte menu and none of them disappointed. The menu is quite small, but with that they can refine the dishes that they do have. They also offer a 7 course set menu. The service was excellent. The waiter was very personable and always checked on us. The food came out promptly. The interior is very nice. It's very modern yet, has a nice flare to it. The set up of the tables and bar is very inviting. The parking is a little small as it's located in Kaimuki. If you come early enough when they open or schedule your dinner early, you should be able to get parking. Overall, if you're in the neighborhood for a quaint little place for some good grinds, give this place a try!

Small classy/casual restaurant in kaimuki with amazing flavors! Went for dinner during restaurant week and my boyfriend and I both really enjoyed it! For restaurant week they had a 7 course menu for $59, usual is $65. It was such a deal! Service was good despite the sever being the host and bartender too- he was still attentive and made sure we had everything/enjoying it. Food wise I think my favorite were the fried chicken and scallop/shrimp dish. Everything we had was good though. The fried chicken was super crispy and the sauce went well with it. Dessert wise the mochi bunny was so good! The A5 caramels were interesting and different but yummy. Parking wise there is a small lot that seems to be able to accommodate the size of the restaurant if not theres street parking on Waianae or in the residential area. Overall really enjoyed the dinner and can't wait to go back!

I have had this place on my radar for a while and it did not disappoint. We got the set menu and each course was unique, yummy, and beautiful. I was satisfied by the end but not stuffed. The drinks were good and not over priced, atmosphere was great. Our server took time to explain each course. I will be back for sure! Bang for your buck amazing!

Loaded Potato Au Gratin, Cheese Crown

The service was fantastic! Our waiter was attentive, friendly, and professional throughout the meal. Unfortunately, the 7-course set menu fell short of expectations. While the portions were generous for the price, many of the dishes were overly salted, and the progression of the courses felt unbalanced. Some courses were quite heavy and filling, making it difficult to enjoy the menu from start to finish. The meal started strong with the crudo, which was fresh and exciting, and we also enjoyed the scallops and brown butter mochi. However, the beet lotus was the weakest course for me and felt out of place within the menu. Overall, most dishes were simply OK but suffered from excessive salt. I also questioned the decision to serve every course as shared plates for a party of two rather than plating them individually. For example, the hamachi crudo arrived as a single shared plate with an uneven number of fish slices, resulting in an unequal portion between two guests. At this price point and in a tasting menu format, individual plating would have felt more thoughtful and intentional. The service was great, but I believe the tasting menu could be improved by creating a better balance of flavors, textures, and temperatures. A more thoughtful flow between courses and a stronger selection of dishes from their à la carte offerings would make for a much more cohesive dining experience. Most of the dishes felt random, too salty, or just OK.

Decided to try this place since it was restaurant week, their 7 course meal was a deal and well worth it Time between food was perfect, didn't have to wait too long and every dish was delicious. This is a perfect place to eat and chill for dinner. Only thing I wish they had beer on draft, their bar only had bottles but they have other cocktails to try.

I really wanted to like Restaurant XO since it's been on my radar for a while now. But unfortunately, while the $59/pp (Restaurant Week deal) for a 7-course set menu was definitely enticing, it didn't live up to my expectations. Mainly, I felt a disconnect with Restaurant XO's apparent "fine dining" concept. Atmosphere-wise, XO had both upscale decor and homey furniture, making my experience a bit confusing. Hamachi Sashimi Crudo: One of my favorites. Thick pieces of buttery hamachi with a delicious miso vinagrette. Beet Lotus: The salad was slightly too sweet for me, personally. If less sweet, the dish could have been a refreshing palate cleanser. Loaded Potato Au Gratin: Because the cheese crust was floppy--kind of like a thin fruit leather--it felt unnecessary. The potato was great, though. Grilled Kalbi Pork Belly Ssam: Not much flavor at all nor spice on the pork belly. I wish there was a fresh or tangy element, like kimchi or cole slaw. And, just half a lettuce leaf for those large pork belly slices? I want the other half please. Buttermilk Fried Chicken with Adobo Butter Sauce: My least favorite, I couldn't finish it. Fast food fried chicken would have been better; mine was dry, though my partner said his was moist. The chicken itself was not really seasoned. Adobo Butter Sauce was very vinegary, which was fine, but it was missing other key elements of adobo, like pepper and garlic. The sauce ultimately didn't work with the chicken. The dish, in particular, was out of place for this prix fixe menu. Herb Crusted Rack of Lamb, Stew Wellington (+$10): The cook and seasoning on the lamb was perfect. Stew wellington was slightly soggy, but otherwise, tasted fine. I didn't care for the red wine gastrique--it was too sweet for me and lacked an acidic component. Pan Seared Scallops and Shrimp, Shellfish Beurre Monte: My other favorite of the night, the scallop and shrimp were cooked very well and the shellfish beurre monte was creamy. Absolutely delicious. Brown Butter-Bunny-Butter Mochi: Aesthetically very cute and the toasted marshmallow was a nice touch. But, nothing special beyond that. Pumpkin Crunch: I liked the flavor a lot, but it was way too sweet. It could have gone without the sugar granules underneath the shortbread crust. A-5 Wagyu Fat Caramels: I liked the caramel, it was smoky and slightly salty from the wagyu renderings. Ultimately, I don't think I'll be coming back to Restaurant XO, even though $59/pp for a 7-course set menu is a really good price. Most of the dishes had room for improvement, and I left pretty disappointed with the overall experience.

It felt pretty obvious that since the bigger tables had an automatic 20% tip guaranteed, our table just wasn't worth the effort to her. And that's exactly the problem with sneaking an auto-gratuity in fine print at the bottom of the menu -- it creates exactly this kind of situation. If the service had been genuinely good, I would have happily tipped 20% on my own. But to have it quietly tacked on after being largely ignored? That feels sneaky and disrespectful. Loved the food, love the company... what a great place!

The fish was fresh colorful and presentation didn't disappoint our evening. We were there when they opened adding a personal touch to our evening before the dinner crowd arrived. The sushi chef and his sous chefs worked together to get the food to their guests quickly. We were sitting at the sushi bar --- the dedication and smooth operation seemed fine to me. It was quiet loud when they welcomed guests which wasn't easy to handle but I understood why they were doing that. Loved the presentation of our choices which we took pics of. Thank you for a fun evening. We'll be back next year.

My fiance won a gift card actually 2 of them (from his coworker whom could not get a reservation secured), we knew we had to make the trip over before they officially close. We had multiple dishes, but staff made Kauai prawns and tomato miso black cod dishes on the house since they ran out the Hokkaido scallops. We ordered the short ribs, lobster appetizer, hamachi crudo and lastly sashimi moriawase to finish food palate. Lukki lemon dessert was great way to end to night. Ordered the Milk tea bouquet cocktail while my better half had water ( either way the food coma knock him out cold the rest of the night lol). To be honest, it was difficult to determine which dish was the best because the staff kept quality there despite it being busy every night since they announce the closure. Sashimi moriawase, fish was so fresh, reminded me of my time spent in Hokkaido and Sapporo. Short ribs was soft and rich in flavor. Both me and my fiance liked the lukki lemon dessert, like lemon meringue pie but broken down version. If you have a chance to dine here before closing and got a reservation, definitely will have a lovely dining experience and your stomach will be full by end of the night.

The Corn Beignets was the best. - For entree we got: Tomato Miso Black Cod and the Short Rib. Both were delicious and worth a try. Sad to see that this restaurant appears to be closing.

"Jenny I've got your number...I need to make you mine...eight, six, seven, five, three oh nine..."…read morealthough this song and lyrics have nothing to do with 855 Aloha, that was the only thing upon my entry into this mysterious yet somehow still welcoming restaurant that kept playing over and over in my head. 855 Aloha is hip and trendy restaurant in the Waikīkī area of Honolulu that serves both the local community and tourists alike thanks to their buzzworthy mashup of Japanese, Chinese, Korean, and European influenced cuisine that represents the Hawaiian islands rich cultural melting pot. Located on the ground floor of the Romer House hotel, which itself had been recently gutted and remodeled in recent years, along Nāhua Street, 855 Aloha proudly establishes itself as a restaurant that has its roots engrained with a sense of nostalgia from a time when things moved a little slower, even in Hawai'i where things have always moved a little slower, so diners can gather, stay a little longer, which upon my visit I happily did so. Named for Hawaii's once-ubiquitous payphone number, 855 Aloha is a celebration of local history and a bit of an homage to the humble payphone, where a handful of change could connect people back to the mainland. What brought me here was the fact that on a previous journey to the Hawaiian islands, I stayed at the Romer House and thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the hotel, but never got around to visiting their main restaurant on the ground floor lobby. Upon a recent visit to Waikīkī, with the rain coming down in droves, I made it my mission to finally make it one of Waikīkī's most intriguing restaurants. Not having reservations for 855 Aloha was not a problem, as I made sure to call in advance and they said they were taking walk-ins this evening. Being sat in one of their large booths made me appreciate solo dining, and take in the ambiance of a dimly lit dining room. Beyond the cocktail and beverage section of the menu, the dinner menu at 855 Aloha is separated into categories including Sushi Rolls, otherwise known as Roll Call; Salads, otherwise known as Fresh Talk; Shareable Pupus and Appetizers, otherwise known as Party Line; Large Plates, otherwise known as Main Line; Sides, otherwise known as What's Your Extension; and Desserts, otherwise known as Sweet Talk. To start my meal I ordered their Hello Goodbye cocktail which featured Tequila Blanco, Mezcal, Housemade Ginger Syrup, Honey and Lemon. A sultry cocktail that was deep in texture and flavor, this was a nice start to my meal. To eat with my cocktail, I ordered their Cali Roll which was filled with Snow Crab, Avocado, Cucumber and Sesame. This was your traditional sushi roll elevated in an only-in-Hawaii sense of mind. Since I was famished for food, I knew I wanted something hearty, and their Chinatown Chili Crisp Chicken which was served with Gai Lan vegetables, as well as Charred Lemon, and topped with Cilantro. To pair with my entrée, I ordered their Furikake Rice. As I sipped on my cocktail I enjoyed my Cali Roll piece by piece and knew that the food at 855 Aloha was truly elevated and I knew for the rest of my evening I was in for a real treat. My chicken entrée and bowl of steamed rice topped with furikake seaweed and sesame seeds would come out next and I would not be disappointed as it was juicy and flavorful with every bite. The chicken entrée was not the largest dish so sharing this one entrée seems doubtful the side of steamed rice definitely fills up any diner. I didn't think I had any room for dessert but changed my mind when I reviewed their menu, and their Chocolate Haupia Pie topped with Toasted Coconut and Whipped Cream was simply too good to ignore. My total bill for this visit to 855 Aloha was $90.06 that included tax and was before grtuity was added in, which was higher than most, but well worth the price tag. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit to 855 Aloha, as it represented the true diverse cultures of Hawaii, thanks to the energy and kindness of the Japanese hospitality that this restaurant represents. Seeing my fellow diners, both large parties and couples enjoy themselves, in such a place where people were clearly bonding over their meal and drinks in such a laid back yet still dynamic social environment was a real treat. As it was my first night in Hawaii and we didn't have dinner yet, sure why not try it? While waiting to be seated, I had asked the staff at 855 Aloha if the 15% discount would apply for guests at the hotel, and quite oddly, she said she didn't know. Upon being seated, I asked our server and strangely, she also didn't know and said she would ask someone. Sort of made me confused and gaslighted that I'm being told two different things. As it's our first time dining at 855 Ahola, we tried a few entrees and I would say that it's flavorful and delicious; much better than I would have expected. $12 for sparkling water, a little pricier but the food was good. I did enjoy my late meal / dinner. My only complaint would be that when the bill arrived, no discount was applied. I had told three servers that I was a guest at the hotel, had my key card and ID as well. The server came back and she applied 10% off. At that point, I just paid for the bill and left a 20% tip for gratuity. Being in Hawaii, especially after a long flight and it being our first meal which happens to be very late and it's dinner, would have liked for the hotel to have just honored the 15% discount without having to ask about it so many times. 15% discount won't break my wallet but it's more about the principle and fairness -- it is actually listed on the website as well. It made me feel like 855 Aloha wasn't very honest. The food itself was good but I would probably just skip this one next time.

We ordered a bit too much food and spent a little under $200 for two people after tax and tip. Some dishes we ordered: 1. Spicy tuna and salmon with garlic roll ($26.50) - massive roll and quite heavy...this was the last dish to come out and we were STUFFED by then. It's good, but I would have preferred to start the meal with this roll, not end with it. 2. Atsuage natto ($9.50) - ordered to hit my protein macros. It's literally fried tofu topped with a generous serving of natto. 3. Eggplant in dashi sauce ($6.50) - light appetizer, and seemed fairly healthy. 4. Miso chilean sea bass ($30) - very flaky and fresh. I was already getting full by this point after our apps and nigiri came out. 5. The nigiri and rolls were all fresh and ranged in pricing. We each got 3 pieces of nigiri and split a couple small rolls in addition to the aforementioned spicy tuna and salmon. Service was decent. We sat at the counter and the chefs were all very nice.
