First off.... Don't listen to Lily G.'s terrible review of this restaurant. We saw the whole thing go down. Her red headed moustache wearing angry boyfriend yelled amd stormed out after his temper tantrum. Orders get mixed up sometimes, but no excuse to act so nasty! The sushi is fresh and very tasty, they do get the orders correct and all the sushi is prepared in front of you before it is placed on the boats. (Grill side) The food was good some things were sad the crab sticks were fake crab sadly but there was 7 of us and they gave us super small portions like 3 crab sticks of 4 potstickers two of us went without getting meat!! And you can tell they don't like Mexicans or white people they came to our table only two times in almost 2 hours but the tables that where the same race were always getting attention this one table got served 7 times! And after we finally got attention from one of the waiters they said our time is up.. we got irritated at this point cuz we only had our teas and waters filled once kept we didn't have enough food for 7 people the 2 kids were still hungry and they are still in the single digits they don't eat much in the single digits so for them to say that...you know we didn't get much food. But yes they were nice enough to let us have more after hearing that BUT they were not nice after they every time I said we will get pork they said ok no more after like yea we get it she just kept saying it over and over almost $300 so not worth it . went to MCDONALDS after. I mean the meat we got like 2 thin strips for each of us beside 2-3 people had to be outted cuz not enough. But definitely can tell they don't like Mexicans. Great Sushi place with lots of options. Volcano Sushi was amazing. Shrimp, Chicken and Pork Tempura were perfect. Family atmosphere and also all you can eat Korean BBQ in the adjacent premises. Forget the floating boats thing. It ain't happening at this place. We walked in and the waiter said to pick our own table. I asked him about sitting at the sushi bar with the boats and he looked at me like I was an idiot and said "No food!" WTF does that mean? As locals, we come here every so often to see if things change with menu changes and time in general. The Chinese items are pretty good. However, the sushi has too much rice, and the rice is too mushy. The wait for the food is extremely long. We've waited over 30 minutes to get our food when there are only two other tables seated. They seem to prioritize to go orders. This is very frustrating. Making the food even more not worth it. My advice, go elsewhere. read more

Siiiiiiiiiick! No, not in a good way. I was terribly ill after eating here. I've never understood putting sushi on little boats where it sits for who-knows how long. I thought the idea was to get sushi as fresh as possible? Some friends of ours drug us along to this place against our will; so, when I sat down I resolved to only grab plates that I had not seen go around before. Unfortunately, the first one I grabbed was deep-fried and just about melted my lips off. After sucking on ice for a while, eventually I was able to feel my lips again and was more cautious on my choices. I couldn't be happier with the dinner I just had. Typically with all you can eat restaurants, my worry is that the food quality isn't great. Not here, however. I absolutely love this place. The sushi is fresh and delicious and the Korean bbq was absolutely immaculate. Apparently, the owners did say they had to adjust some of the more traditional flavors to shit the palate of restaurant patrons which I found to be pretty funny. Only wish I would have took a picture. Ordered the red hot dragon roll horrible. It said spicy tuna, none salmon, none yellow tail two pieces of awful tasting fish. Just a ball fried with a rice roll I opened six pieces and all were the same one piece with nasty fish taste. I showed the waiter the plate full of rice balls. He then brought the menu thankfully because I had forgotten it was also supposed to have salmon. There was no denying it was nothing but rice, so he spoke to what I believe is the owner in Korean or whatever language and did not remove it. Don't eat here you don't know what your getting. Terrible .. old sashimi ( freezer burned ) and worried I may have food poisoning. The tempura was crispy and light but tasted like old frying oil. Ordered Togo today and my order was around $80.00, the employee taking my order said I had to pay with my card over the phone before she could put my order in??? I have never had to do that anywhere before... then she told me it would be 35 minutes. I arrived 45 minutes later and walked in and waited at the front desk, not one employee acknowledged me and they all saw me while waiting their table. After standing there for 5 mins, I sat down on the bench. Two couple walked in and was immediately greeted and seated by one of the waitresses. Then 10 minutes later the boss finally assisted me and guess what my Togo order was not ready it took 1 hour and 10 minutes not 35 minutes! read more

This place was terrible! Terrible service and mediocre sushi that was really over priced. Wish I had read some of the reviews on here before choosing to come to this place. We walked in and wanted to sit at the boat bar. We were seated at the boat bar and were then ignored by all the staff. It was not even busy! Finally after like 10 mins someone came over and gave us one menu for a group of 4. Then we sat there for another 15-20 mins waiting for someone to come take our order. Then we finally got some water and never got asked if we wanted anything else besides water. The sushi on the boats looked like they had been there for a day or two. We got our rolls which were not anything special and no one ever checked in with us after that. While I was sitting eating my food I noticed a waitress getting some food ready to bring to a table. There was a glass of wine that she noticed had a smudge or something on the glass. And instead of getting a new glass she tried to rub off the smudge or whatever it was with her bare hand! Very disappointed with our last night. It took about 15 minutes for someone to greet us at the door and then We waited at least 30 minutes before our server came to our table. (they were not even busy). Finally our food came out and we ordered the Cinderella roll and tuna avocado roll. The Cinderella roll was so spicy that my fiancé couldn't eat it. There is no mention of it being spicy on the menu. The tuna avocado roll was completely bland. My dish was dirty and had old crusty food on it. Waitress literally ignored our table the entire time. She served other tables consistently. It took 20 min to get first order and even after asking multiple times after that food was gone when our next order would be out she continued to serve the other tables, about 35 min later we got our next order but was still missing appetizers from our first order, we ended up getting one one the orders after complaining to someone in the front. The atmosphere is perfect for having a casual lunch with friends and family, or meeting someone for business. I should probably buy stock in their company as much as I eat there... or get a frequent eater discount. Something? ok, even if I didn't get anything, then I would still eat there as often as my pocketbook would allow. I experienced sushi for the first time there, and they set the bar for all other sushi that I have experienced so far. The boats and buffet style they have is really neat to experience, the staff there know exactly what GREAT customer service is. I've never had to ask for a refill for a beverage, and most often they know what I order most of, and offer it to me when I arrive. When asking for recommendations about what I should try next, they always give me a few options based on what I've had in the past. If they were to give other businesses one lesson, it's that treating customers like a king will always be a great way to stay open and have a successful business. After traveling around the world and sampling cuisine from foreign countries, I will take Yama over any other restaurant in redding. I was born and raised on red meat, mashed potatoes, and gravy. Now, I will die with a caterpillar roll in one hand and a honey prawn in the other. read more

I'm not a big fan of sushi to be honest, but I was strong armed into checking out Yama Sushi. It's one of those Japanese restaurants with the sushi boats, and I figured it would be worth it purely for the novelty. While I opted to sit at the bar and grab food from the boats you can also sit at a table and order sushi like in a typical restaurant. Let me start off by saying that I really like the pricing method; each color of plate costs a particular amount and the staff simply add the sum of your plates up to determine your final bill. It's pretty effective and smart. The food was kinda a mixed bag for me. Not all of it is sushi; they have various other food items like teriyaki chicken and a variety of deserts. Every once in a while something crazy like a boat with a plate of tentacles floats by which I found kind of hilarious. These items, along with the sushi, are pretty decent but not amazing or anything. It is however worth stopping in just for the novelty. read more

This review is only for takeout* If you're looking for sushi that is "ok" this is the place for you! I'm not sure how you manage sushi that is pretty flavorless, but they did it. It's not horrible, but it's definitely "meh". Also they don't have prices on their menu and we ended up ordering two $20 rolls. I got the chance to try the Korean BBQ for the first time today! This place was always my go-to for sushi and is really nice and quiet. The staff is really nice, and they help you make sure your meat is cooking properly. There are some things that if you're not familiar with AYCE Korean bbq seem a little strange, like the limit of 3 proteins per table at a time, or not being able to take home leftovers and a couple other details. I think this is a fabulous addition to the culinary scene in Redding and look forward to eating here again! read more

My husband and I arrived just after 3pm and the restaurant was pretty empty so we ordered 2 items each Both his items came and he was finished with all his items before I got even one of mine He had a mango roll and yakatori I ordered tomago(which is premade and from my understanding very simple in preparation) then after a bit the spider roll finally came (which looked nothing at all like the picture i pointed at to order) The waitress seemed confused that I was upset to eat AFTER not with my husband Sadly she didnt speak english very well And i didnt think it very polite to persist And I dont speak japanese So i tried to tell the manager, she didnt seem to care I will not reccomend this restaurant and I will tell others that it is not as advertised I am very disappointed More upset with the manager than the poor waitress read more

Sushi was really good! But do not order the chicken udon noodles, it made us feel really sick and the chicken was undercooked. There was also a bone in the chicken. We asked for a refund but they kept asking if we wanted a to- go box. They later negotiated the price to half. So I payed 8 dollars for two pieces of chicken, carrots and 5 pieces of broccoli.
