Someone told me they changed Chef's and it went downhill. I disagree!! This place is still my top sushi pick in the area.

We give them 2 thumbs up. It's hard to find good Japanese in the area but this is a favorite. The sushi bar is fantastic . I just wish they delivered because the dining room is small ( not child friendly) so we only do take out. read more

Yama was really good. The atmosphere was nice and the food was unimpeachable. I just wan't thrilled. Apparently there are no refills on soft drinks. I wasn't planning on drinking that much, but it was jarring, since I know how little it costs them to fill up that cup. read more

Yuck. The prawns had their heads still attached. And by the time we peeled them, what was left would fit in a thimble. The food was tasteless. The service was good but what's the point if they keep bringing you food that tastes terrible. read more

No doubt the best sushi on the island. I recommend the blue toro roll or the hot lover roll. Service is always great.

This was a laughably bad experience.... Firstly, there is a huge language barrier between customers and waitstaff, making it very difficult to even order! Next, we were given pint glasses for the bottle of wine that we brought, NOT OKAY. The waitress told us they were out of clean wine glasses. We asked twice for her to check and possibly wash some wine glasses then about 20 minutes later finally got them. I will deal with so-so service if the food makes up for it. It did not... I am not even sure we got the same sushi rolls we ordered, the spicy salmon roll tasted almost exactly like the blue crab roll; last I checked those two sea creatures tasted entirely different, not at Yama apparently lol!! I noticed that everyone was having a hard time communicating with the waitstaff and waiting a long time to get their orders. I had good company so we just laughed off the whole ordeal but I would suggest checking out the new sushi place across the street. I will not be back to Yama. read more

Excellent sushi! We are from SE PA and enjoy some sushi from there, but we always look forward to visits to Yama, our favorite restaurant at the shore. We have had very good sushi in some places like Hawaii ,NYC, Phila, but Yama is our favorite because of the freshness, imagination, and wonderfully blended flavor of the rolls. I was surprised to see many negative reviews on Yelp. I've ordered take out a few times since Yama is on my route home. Each time, the sushi has been very good. I've ordered the specialty rolls, and they have had plenty of fresh fish, and they've developed nice flavors. Don't expect to be wow'd here, but if you're in the mood for sushi it's a good spot. This is not a cutting edge foodie-type sushi restaurant. It's a good place to grab take out or bring a bottle of wine and take it easy. read more

The interior has a sleek, modern upgrade that it desperately needed. The sushi bar mechanics is not well thought out because the servers continuously reach over you for the table food as it is completed. They also no longer seem to provide the small gratis app at the sushi bar that most Japanese restaurants offer. That said, the sushi was fresh, tasty and a solid variety was offered. Barbecued squid as an app was tender and inviting. The scallop sushi was so sweet we had seconds and thirds. No uni available the night we were there but we'll be back to try again. The anago and white tuna sushi were also wonderful. Service a bit uneven as the busy season starts but friendly. Server forgot our barbecued squid but it was worth the wait. read more

Atmosphere: B. nice lil spot close to Atlantic City. Pretty standard decor and decent sized sushi bar. Food: C+. Ordered their chicken teriyaki and a jalapeño yellowtail roll. Not bad but not great. The broccoli served with my meal was underdone and the asparagus overdone. Service: B-. Took 5 minutes to get a menu and we had to grab our own chopsticks and napkin. Value: B-. 14.95 for chicken teriyaki is kinda steep. The portions were decent size. read more

My family loves Yama!! Good quality and prices are fair. The chief is very creative and passionate! One of my must order roll is Hot Lover Roll, with abundant spicy tuna and crunchy shrimp tempura. During the summer on weekends, they're usually busy so I understand if it takes a little bit more time for food to be ready. I work in Atlantic City so before leaving work, I placed an order for take out. I only ordered two sushi rolls and was told it would take 30 minutes. Was fine with that because I was still at work, had to take the jitney, and a 10 minute walk so 30 minutes would pass by quickly. They didn't have my order ready by the time I arrived so I sat on their booths at the entrance. After sitting there for awhile, I repeatedly went up to a waitress to ask about my order and they just told me it wasn't ready. I sat on their booth for a long time that I was thinking about walking home (I live by Margate and probably takes about 20-30 minutes to walk from Yama to my house) and drive back to pick up my order instead of just sitting in their booth with nothing to do. Decided not to just in case they had my food ready. After waiting for 1.5 hours in the restaurant, they finally had my two sushi rolls ready. I was so angry that I was about to burst into tears. No restaurant should ever make their customers wait that long. Especially just for two basic sushi rolls that can be made in less than minute. read more

We went on a Friday for lunch and got there just before they closed (they close between 3pm to 430pm). We had my 6 yo daughter with us. We all decided to take advantage of the 2 roll lunch special which comes with salad and miso soup. The salad was pretty big and made with spring mix lettuce instead of the usual iceburg stuff. The miso ginger dressing on it was delicious! I had a spicy tuna and the shrimp/avocado roll, my little girl had a Cali roll and a Philly roll and my bf had a spicy tuna and spicy salmon. All of our sushi was very fresh and oh so tasty! We also split a Godzilla roll as it was highly recommended by the other reviewers and we were glad we tried it as it was soo amazingly good. I'm not sure why people feel it's not good for kids...maybe because most kids don't like sushi (wish someone would tell my kid that), but my daughter loved it. The only downsides are the prices of the specialty rolls which are on the high side (but the lunch special will keep us coming back), and there is only on street parking which is probably a pain during the summer. read more

We have eaten here 2 times this summer, and this place gets crowded on weekends after 7:30.. The service was not bad .. The food was ok .. The Service is absolutely HORRIBLE! You wait 10/15minutes for someone to come over you , because they're all standing around talking !!! Excuse Meee is what I have to say for them to come over , U never know who your server is someone different always comes to the table you wait forever for your food then it comes out wrong they give you an attitude like you did something wrong we got a take out order as well , it was all messed up we ordered dessert she brought the wrong dessert out! ! As a Server myself I find it absolutely appalling ! no wonder why the restaurant is empty on a Friday night ,must've seen three couples walk out while we dined. We ordered take out and they forgot one of the items and we were charged for it so we had to go back and get it. The hot lover roll had very little tuna in it. Also we got very little teriyaki sauce. The Tom yum soup was not very good. read more

Let me start by saying that I have been going to Yama for years. Always enjoyed. Last time I was there with five other people and the service was horrible. The food came out all at different times and they were totally disorganized. So we tried again tonight. We were five people with a reservation that we confirmed earlier in the afternoon. So we got there fifteen minutes earlier at 6:45 and they did not have reservation. They did however seat us as the restaurant was quiet. Someone came over and immediately uncorked our two bottles of wine. That's where the enjoyable evening ended. Appetizers came out after waiting for a while. Dinner came out for only four if he five of us. After waiting thirty minutes I finally cancelled my order. Many many people were also complaint about the length of time they were waiting. BEWARE, they have no idea how to run s business. Must be new owners. read more

Words can't explain what their cooking and preparing it's not edible food terrible they need to make big chances to get us back the servers at bar never look at you and always have to wait and try to get their attention especially the bartenders terrible but the food and the overall menu is below average bar food even the craft beers are bad ashame I'm hoping they figure it out read more

Great food!!! However be careful of the pricing, their online prices are different from the restaurant menus price and differs again from the actual price. The lunch box online shows a price of $8.50, the paper menu inside the restaurant shows $10.00 however I was charged $11.00 plus tax. When I asked why I was being charged $11.00 I was told they haven't updated their menus. Keep in mind I was also told this about 5 months ago. read more

LOVE this place, go in for take out and have eatin there....never have had a bad experience...it is our "go too" for sushi

I ordered delivery from here several times. Each time I've asked for spicy mayo. Each time they have charged me an additional 50 cents for the spicy mayo and yet it has not been included a single time. As this continues to happen, I have become more adamant each time in my attempts to plead that they make sure they include the spicy mayo. This afternoon, we ordered delivery. I not only asked for the spicy mayo but requested that the gentleman who was taking my order that he please double check to make sure they've included the spicy mayo in my order. About ten minutes later they called to tell us they had no more beef satay, we added a different item instead and I again reiterated to please make sure to include the spicy mayo. They arrived. I once again generously tipped the delivery girl and we sat down to eat. After removing all of the food from the bag.... NO SPICY MAYO. Looked at the receipt, still charged .50 for the spicy mayo. In regards to the food, I may have given them 2 to 3 stars but the singular condiment that makes or breaks the meal for me is always missing. I know I can make spicy mayo from mixing mayo and sriracha, but I'm often too tired and/or lazy... which is why I'm ordering delivery in the first place. tuna seaweed salad is amazing, the rolls are one of the best ive had, fresh ingredients, perfect size, delicious flavors. plating is on point, highly recommend this place. little hard to see from outside though, there sign is not that visible. read more
