Hidden treasure in an area full of chain restaurants and mall food. Solid teriyaki joint. I had the Chicken teriyaki and veggie yakisoba combo. $19.50 on the menu. After tax and tip it came to $25.82. ( I almost always tip 20%). Seems like a lot, right? but this is the Seattle area. AND...the portion was so hefty I put it on my kitchen scale. 1 lb. 14.8 oz. That's almost TWO POUNDS. I was going to split it between two meals, but it was so good I ate the whole thing. Just the right amount of char and smoky flavor on the chicken. Moist and tender. The yakisoba was great. Some of the veggies were a little on the soft side but much of it was crisp and fresh tasting. It's easy to make teriyaki too sweet or too salty. This was just right. The yakisoba also had the right amount of seasoning without needing any extra soy sauce. Yamada Teriyaki is a no frills type of space inside a no frills convenience store (Mandalay Mini Mart), next to Wells Fargo Bank. I'm sure it's a godsend for nearby office workers during the week, and I suspect they do a killer lunch and takeout business. When I visited about 530pm on a Friday, it was pretty slow. If you're in one of the nearby hotels or apartments, give this place a try. I almost went to Wendy's and I'm glad tried this spot instead. read more

loved eating here! the owners are so kind and the food was excellent. got to hand it to them, the value and portion size is amazing for how great the taste was. the restaurant is in its own area that's next to a deli mart, currently you enter through the deli mart and head left to the restaurant. my girlfriend and i loved the spicy teriyaki chicken and chicken fried rice! the fried rice is fresh and peppery which i really enjoyed with plenty of chicken in it and in a huge box. the teriyaki sauce also has a great consistency and you get two containers to add as much extra sauce as you would like. also we got two water bottles on the house which i really appreciated on a warm day! definitely one of my top favorite spots in the area and a great local spot at that :) i also liked how much seating there was and the place was very spacious and well organized. overall: 10/10 value: 10/10 taste: 10/10 we'll be back! check them out when you're near tukwila! read more

I'm at the hotel across the street. I was originally going to walk over to the mall area and the Olive Garden, but I saw the sign for teriyaki and thought it would be good to support a small business. I walked in through the mini mart. The man behind the counter asked if I was looking for teriyaki after I looked a little lost. He pointed me to the other side of the shop and met me over there. I wish I'd thought to ask his name. He was very nice and personable. I told him I'd be in town for a couple days and was looking for a good spot. I asked what's good on the menu. He pointed out a few things, but I settled on the spicy orange chicken. When I checked out, I thought it might be a tad pricey, but I also recognize the importance of helping a small business. While I waited for my order, I went back to the mini mart side and got a ginger ale and some gum. The same gentleman rang me up there. Then, back next door, I looked at my phone for a minute or two, and he came back to thank me for my patience. While thoughtful, I was not put out at all, I had only placed the order a few minutes before, and it really didn't seem like much of a wait. My food came out in short order, he bagged it up and put all the things I'd need (utensils, napkins, soy sauce) inside before I asked. He left me with a smile, and I walked across the street to my hotel to eat. Bringing it up to my room, I saw that it was a lot of food. Honestly, I SHOULD have only eaten half and saved the rest for the next day. But I didn't. The orange chicken was perfect. Just delicious. The rice was just right. First time coming by & what a nice surprise. We were greeted right away by the [i presume] owner & chef. Ordered our dishes & received them very quickly. The lady who brought them out was also very friendly & warm. They explained to me that all sauces are made in house & no MSG. I like MSG but that's besides the point haha. No cabbage and the sauce went from a sweet, light, slightly pineapple tang to a slightly chard, overly soy sauce kick in the face. Hoping its just and off day and not the new norm. The owner is this really nice Korean man. The teriyaki chicken was pretty good and the noodles were yummy too - it had the usual carrots, cabbage, baby corn, and broccoli, but it also had water chestnuts in it, which I really liked! The owner even threw in some kimchi for me which went well with my teri chicken, and rice. They had a lot more stuff on the menu, so I'll come back to try more of their food! I chatted with the owner while his coworker graciously prepared a pork teriyaki for me right at closing time. He explained that all of their sauces were homemade and fresh, showed me around the attached store, and generally displayed a pride in ownership and customer service that isn't that common anymore. After a long day of shopping, me and my wife were famished. Being from Hawaii, this place really reminded me of home. The teriyaki was on point. My wife ordered the chicken teriyaki and chicken katsu combo, while I ordered the spicy teriyaki chicken. Both plates come with white rice and side salad. The dressing I couldn't identify, I believe it was either a sesame or a miso. The chicken teriyaki was tender and juicy while the chicken katsu was crispy and not dry. My spicy teriyaki was similar to the regular but with a gochujang-like taste and sauce on top. The owner is super friendly and does it all. He is the cook and the cashier. Mad props to him.
